Art and Culture in Berlin

"Although many visitors think that the museum at Checkpoint Charlie is the official Berlin Wall Museum, it’s not; the real, state-run one can be found in Prenzlauer Berg along a former stretch of the Wall (0.62 miles) that still stands along Bernauer Strasse and is covered in street art. It takes a much more neutral and academic look at Germany’s division, and it includes an outdoor exhibition that focuses on key events via large scale photos, texts and audio installations, and a replica of a watchtower and the so-called “death strip.” It also profiles the history of the street and the escape tunnels, as well as other major events that took place here. A separate building also hosts a permanent exhibition on life under the GDR, as well as protest culture and a look at the events leading up to the toppling of the structure and regime." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Bit hard to find and strange that it’s above a pirate themed restaurant but it’s was amazingly informative, staff where lovely and if you book advance online it is €9.99 instead of €12.99

The museum needs a huge revamp. A lot of the screens and audio didn't work. It's a lot of reading (REALLY!!) with very little else. I went 5 years ago also and no improvements have been made since. It's extremely low budget and feels almost as though it's a home-made exhibition. Super strange.

I'm only giving this museum 3 stars, because there are so many world class museums in Berlin. 1st, it may be small, but it's right next to Checkpoint Charlie, so you might as well go, 2nd, small though it may be, it is well structured and very informative. They also have a nice gift shop situated at the way out, where you can buy actual pieces of the wall. Solid 3 stars, but I'm grading on a curve.

The museum is very interesting, you can spend a lot of time exploring and learning about the Wall. The historian Karsten was really nice to me and my friend, he answered all our doubts very patiently.

Cute and informative little museum. The German historian behind counter offered extra explanations and even allowed us to go to the toilet after closing time. Perfect place, especially if you don't have much time to learn about German history and the Cold War.

It is totally a worth visiting stop once you are in Berlin. You can clearly observe all the history behind it. There are detailed explanations and headphone sets. Entrance is subject to fee. Don’t miss it. Recommended.

An interesting museum with lots of eyewitness accounts and fascinating stories of what it was like to live in Berlin at the time of the wall. The museum badly needs a facelift, however. Many of the exhibits look dated, are grainy, faded by the sun or simply were not working. Worth the €9.99 online ticket entry fee but I’d hope to see improvements if I came back.

It is a pretty long walk to see the whole art, but I assure you that it is worthwhile. Some parts of the wall were covered when I visited due to some active construction work in the area, but rest of it was beautiful. A combination of traditional, modern, and abstract art can be seen. Night view of the river is splendid from the bank nearby, and is a must visit in Berlin.

Yelp
Small but very informative museum about the walls history, east vs west Germany events, and related iron curtain era events. Many videos to watch. Museum itself is a little hidden on the 2nd floor of a pirate themed building at the end of the east side (Berlin wall) gallery. The gallery itself is amazing, 1 km of maintained wall with variety of graffiti paintings. Imagine a whole city surrounded by a multi wall DMZ.

Yelp
As a person who isn't very familiar with European history, I should have been the perfect audience for The Wall Museum. I just wanted to minimally get some basic information about why the wall was built, what was so bad about it, why it came down, and why that was such a big deal. I really didn't get that. If I remember correctly, admission was 12 euros, which is way too much for what is basically just a bunch of videos played on a loop. There were a few interviews on the videos, but not in any larger context. I felt like the whole experience should have just been a website, since they didn't include many actual artifacts. I left feeling even more ignorant about the history of the wall and ended up going home and reading Wikipedia to get my history lesson.

Yelp
I wish I had known about this museum sooner. It's not near all Checkpoint Charlie - so, it was later on our list and we arrived near closing time. This museum was very educational and I highly recommend a visit.

Yelp
Visited with my family, we all had a different level of knowledge going in. Thought museum was very informational and worth the trip if you are interested in the history of the wall.
