The Wandering Paisa

Perfectly sized room for me (hostel standards). The staff was nice. Beer and water at the front desk. The AC drain pipe routed to the bathroom stall, but oh well, it’s a hostel. I liked my stay and will use them again.

Musty but trusty. Ive been coming to this hostel for nearly a decade now. Is it the nicest hostel in Medellín? No. Does it have a great vibe? Absolutely! The hostel is cleaned daily, the employees are always welcoming and accommodating, and the owner is a great guy as well. If your picky and looking for a boutique hostel, this place isnt for you. If you're a chill, down to earth person looking for a fun time and other travelers to hang out with, then look no further than wandering paisa.

If I could knock off half a star I would. Overall, this is a fantastic location to stay at. The staff are friendly. The prices are affordable. It is close to the metro. And you meet some great/interesting people. I’ll be staying here next time I come to Colombia. The only reason for the half star deduction was for one of the late night staff/receptionist. It seemed as though she did not know what she was doing. She left the front desk unattended, so I had to wait to be let in, which was not an issue. When I purchased a beer, she came at me aggressively asking where I got the beer, even though she saw me standing at the bar. Even with the displeasure with one of the staff members, it does not warrant a full star downgrade since the overall staff is quite friendly and helpful.

Awesome hostel. Clean & fun common areas, super comfy beds and pillows, and the staff are so helpful and friendly. Great location, and the kitchen is fully equipped

Medellin is a big place with A LOT of better and cheaper hostels then this place. I had the 4 bedroom dorm room with AC. My friends and me occupied 3 of the 4 beds. Pros: - Good location, easy to navigate to and from (definitely recommend staying in Laureles over El Poblado) Cons: - The washrooms are unclean and small. - The room is either hot or very cold because you cannot control the AC temperature in the room. - The dorm rooms are above the bar, so it is very loud - Not really a sense of security, anyone can walk in or out - Lockers are small (and I didn't even get a locker the first night, had to share with my friend) BIGGEST CON: - They made us pay 19% VAT tax even though we are tourists are not required to pay that tax. In addition, on their website it says only nationals pay the 19% tax, and even when I showed it to them, they said the were meaning to change that... but haven't yet. In addition, they sent me papers from the government (which after translating), indicated that we are an exception to the 19% VAT rule. They wouldn't listen to us, and we had to pay the ridiculous overcharge. - If you do end up staying with them, make sure to have it in writing before you go that you don't have to pay the 19% surcharge.

I stayed here in the beginning of the year. I had a private room which was suitable even though it did not have an outside window. I heard the dormitory rooms are quite small. The hostel is definitely social and a bit loud. There is ample outdoor space with hammocks and a rooftop. It's located in an okay part of Laureles.

Very social, fun hostel. But the dorms are small and I mean wow. There's no way to cramp more beds in a room. No place for backpacks or other belongings. To go if you are looking for peace and quiet. If you intend to party - perfect place.

When I booked this hostel I didn’t realize it would be so loud until late in the evening. I’m travelling for a long time so call me boring but I just like to be in bed by 10 pm most nights :) When I arrived and read the house rules I was surprised to read that the quiet hours are 12-6 and 1-6 on weekends. I checked the info on Booking and it wasn’t listed there, if it was I wouldn’t have booked this hostel. I decided to stay for one night but it was really way too noisy for me until late at night. The girl at the reception was really nice and accommodating though when I explained the next morning I wouldn’t be staying for two more nights, she cancelled the rest of my stay and I only paid for one night. Another downside though I noticed was that even until 11 am all three of the couches were occupied by people sleeping on them. The four bed dorm I stayed in was fine, no bunk beds, not too cramped and comfortable bed.
