W Retreat & Spa, Vieques Island | Condé Nast Traveler

"Designed for the terminally hip, the W is a beach house–style explosion of reclaimed wood, brass, painted steel, and concrete. Intense color pops up here and there in the art, rugs, throw pillows, and playful furniture (like the multicolored wire pods cradling lounge beds for two). The eager-to-please staff provide good service, cheerfully answering the phone with the genie-like phrase "What is your wish?" From your arrival in the resort’s dedicated airport lounge, you enter an environment of mixed cocktails, "ambassadors" (butlers lite), and, in the evening, ubiquitous Euro dance music. The 157 rooms, however, promote calm with comfy beds and oversized pillowed armchairs, while clever design details—a bathtub resembling a big galvanized steel wash tub; wall hooks made from a jumble of doorknobs and drawer pulls—crank up the fun factor. There are two lovely beaches: one "adults only" (read: topless) and another just below the restaurant and the bi-level pools. The restaurants Wet and Mix on the Beach (both overseen by star chef Alain Ducasse) serve generally above-average and sometimes outstanding food—the mofongo with prawns will have you licking your fingers. Note: Following Hurricane Maria in September 2017 the resort is closed to reservation through December 31, 2018."

Do not stay here! I booked this before a number of bad reviews were listed for it the month prior to our stay and went off the photos mainly. The photos do not represent what this hotel actually is. The rooms are very run down. Mattresses are dirty and heavily stained, sheets have stains on them room and bathroom has mold growing on walls and ceiling. Pool does not work and has brown water sitting at the bottom. Doors only have a basic lock and are easy to open even when they are locked. AC smells and filter hasn't been cleaned in awhile. Tiles in bathrooms are broken and dirt shoved into the corners. We would have found somewhere else but they do not give money back. Stay away.

The Wave Hotel was great! Our room was perfect because all we needed was a place to sleep, beds and pillows very comfortable. The staff are extremely friendly & helpful. View was beautiful, nice sunsets. Pool was all to ourselves. The WiFi didn't work in the room but we didn't care we were there to enjoy the island.

The customer service was excellent. First, readers have to understand Vieques. It's a very natural, almost undisturbed island of very warm and kind hearted people. It's not a place you visit for a 5-star resort experience. That said, we were treated very well, and offered clean, safe accomodations over a beautiful view of the ocean. We were stranded due to pending hurricane Dorian, and the hotel didn't hesitate to take us in and provide excellent hospitality. I'm just sorry I can't remember the gentleman's name who made us feel so welcomed. I have nothing bad to say about Wave Hotel. Very grateful for the kindness shown!

Dirty floors, with patches of unfinished cement. Dirty shower with no proper drain, just a hole. No hot (not even warm) water. Instead of windows, my room had single pane glasses facing a busy street, and the curtains were smaller than the "windows". That meant NO privacy and not being able to block street lights. Wifi didn't work. The Wave is conveniently located and has some rooms with beautiful views. But it's in dire need of renovation. The bed was comfortable and the A/C worked.

Upon arrival, we were shown to our accommodations which were so clean, inviting and stocked with so many great things, e.g., a book outlining things to do, phone numbers to book reservations, how to operate various amenities, big fluffy beach towels, bath towels, kitchen stocked with all you need. On the grounds, the pool was crystal clear with a grill on the deck and tables and chairs to dine, chairs by the ocean to view sunrises or drink a cup of Joe (I did both and highly recommend!). Lastly, washer and dryer along with soap and dryer sheets - so convenient and nice to come home and not have to do laundry! Their Facebook page also has so many wonderful recommendations on restaurants which were spot on. We look forward to going back next year

My room was obviously damaged by the hurricane and shouldn't be open for use. A/C was cold but too loud all night. Fridge and microwave are in the closet. The bathroom was outdated and hurting for some attention. Sink had brown water coming out of the faucet and leaking on the floor underneath. Toilet was not sealed to the floor or wall. Don't lean too far to the side. The shower was the worst: No drain cover, just an open drain pipe. Hot and cold knob were puzzling to get the right water temperature. Not much more than a trickle of water pressure.

Stayed here on March 4th 2019. Not sure why this is considered a 3-star hotel. More like 2-star or less. I’ve worked at a 3-star hotel that was exquisitely clean, updated, provided a full, hot buffet style breakfast, clean pool, sauna, jacuzzi (indoor and out), free WiFi throughout, etc. Unfortunately, the Wave was none of these and certainly overpriced for what you get. The bedding was unwashed, maybe except for clean sheets, but the pillow shams were gray on the corners and there was hair on the comforter. There is NO WiFi throughout the hotel, contrary to what they advertise. It ONLY works right at the reception area. The desk provided in the room was made of plywood—the whole thing, no veneer. There was hair in the shower drain and the floor throughout the room was gritty and obviously not mopped. Our room didn’t even have a room number on it (11). The air conditioner required an extension cord to be plugged in, and I’m sure that’s considered a fire hazard. The man who checked us in did not inform us of any breakfast provided. We had to search for the pool on our own and were disappointed at how cold it was. The bottom was made of concrete that was crumbling away. I was extremely unimpressed with my stay. Taking into consideration Hurricane Maria, this hotel is not ready to re-open unless they lower their prices considerably. We paid $125 for that. The hotel I work at is usually around $140 for much, much better. Yes, I know the Wave is on the beach, but it’s on a very dirty beach with no easy access. If I ever visit Vieques again, I’ll look into booking at El Blok in Esperanza.

I would not stay at The Wave Hotel. There was mold on the wall, the floor, and the pillows. The room and hallway were not clean-visibly dirty. I felt super uncomfortable staying there and I'm pretty easy to please. The staff were great and quickly gave me a decreased rate which made me think this happens often.
