3 Best Day Trips From Edinburgh | Condé Nast Traveler

"The Wee Curry Shop is well known throughout the city for its warm plates and bowls of Indian dishes like butter chicken, masalas, paneers, and methi gosht (lamb seasoned with Indian spices and fenugreek). But allow yourself some playtime by exploring their interpretations of Scottish favorites, like haggis in the form of pakora; haddock with tandoori essences; or a version of fish and chips—here, served with a crispy pea pakora instead of the usual dollop of smashed peas." - Danielle Bernabe

Amazing food, cosy atmosphere and friendly staff! We enjoyed some flavourful curries, one vegetarian with chana mushrooms and tomato, and one with monk fish, both delicious. The lemon rice is amazing! Great menu with everything to enjoy traditional Indian cuisine.

We group of 4 families went to celebrate fathers day there and I had such an amazing experience. Food was so yummmy, have no words for chef Tej, Staff was very friendly and service was quick. I am definitely coming back here with my family and friends.

I ate Chicken Dopiaza for the first time, and it was gorgeous. I normally avoid eating onions, but I ate these ones because I wanted every milligram of this terrific curry. The Naan had a pool of oil in it, which was a little off putting, but it was nice nonetheless. It did though take the staff quite a few noticeable minutes to give me a menu. But little niggles aside, would definitely go again!

This is incredible, we had the vegetarian samosas and saag and garlic naan and all of them were life changing. Go here.

I got the chicken tikka masala with boiled rice and poppadoms. The tikka masala had mild spice level. I would ask them to make it spicy if your into that. Good portion size with lots of chicken for any one trying to get that protein in, was full when I finished.

I was out here with my dinner club friends. We try and meet up every two months or so. The place is small so booking is advisable. We had a lovely table in the corner by the window. It was warm and cozy inside. We had 3 starters, popadoms and 4 mains. A few pints and a bottle of red. Total bill for 4 was £38.75pp which included our tip. The food was delicious and the service is great. Nothing not to like, nice atmosphere.

I've eaten alot of curries but this is probably the best I've had! The presentation was excellent and the flavours from the dishes were amazing. Everything cooked fresh and you can really tell the difference. It was very reasonable as well. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Great food, wonderful atmosphere, and very helpful. Our group of 6 was easily seated and we all had different meals. Everyone's food was excellent.

Yelp
Fantastic place! Arrived late after BA cancelled my flight. Quickly seated, very friendly staff. Had the Chicken Tikka Masala, garlic naan, and mango lassi. the CTM was excellently cooked, savoury curry. The garlic naan was crispy (not often in the UK this is mastered!), and the mango lassi had the perfect amount of sweetness and texture was spot on. Overall, amazing!

Yelp
Did not even know this place existed until today when I was looking at Indian restaurants near Cineworld and I am so glad I found it! (yes we sat for 2 hours after this meal - it was much needed) We ordered the aubergine and mushroom fritters for starter to share, they were nice but I wouldn't order again just because I think I prefer pakora and the batter was a bit too soft for my liking. I love spicy foods but don't eat Indian food often so I opted for the chilli chicken with garlic to see how it was. To my surprise - just the perfect amount of spice! It was spicy but not too much that I wanted to chug a glass of cold water every minute. My friend can't do Spicy food at all so went for the chicken tikka which she also enjoyed. They give you big portions so do expect to be holding your belly on the way out! They had garlic roti on the specials so we ordered 2 and the basmati rice on the side. Service was good but I think there was a new gent training or relatively new so didn't really know what he way doing. The more familiar staff didn't disappoint though. It is small so be prepared to squeeze into your table! Would definitely come back to this wee gem again though.

Yelp
Our hotel's bartender recommended we stop in for dinner at the Wee Curry Shop and we're glad we did. It's a little off the beaten path so we wouldn't have found it if we hadn't been directed there. The narrow restaurant is tucked away on a side street, which means you'll smell the spices before you see the door. It felt as though we were eating an authentic homemade Indian dinner at a friend's house (in a good way!) We had pappadums to start, then for our meal had chicken curry (chicken cooked with garlic, ginger and whole spices), lamb karahi (lamb cooked in a rich pepper sauce), spiced peas and carrots with leeks, and basmati rice. A solid choice for gluten-free diners, at a reasonable price.

Yelp
Now, I'm no curry expert. So, I'm probably not the best person to review this place! This branch of the Wee Curry Shop is just along from Cowcaddens station. If you have violins, get them ready now. I always eat curry alone. All alone! Stu refuses to eat anything not covered in salt, ketchup and batter, and my friends are all coeliacs/vegetarians/wusses. So I'm left to curries myself, and I'm not very good. But I had a Rogan Josh (quite adventurous for me!!) and a plain naan out of here and both were delicious. The rogan josh was hot and fragrant - a bit too hot for me, but so tasty! And, well, I enjoyed it immensley! So, theres my two cents - expert or not!

Yelp
Fantastic curries in a completely unassuming spot. Best curry I've had outside of India. Sweet server and chef. The kitchen is right there in the dining area. Fantastic!

Yelp
I've visited Scotland 3 times this decade, and the WCS has always been a go-to restaurant for me. Unfortunately this time I think they've fallen off their game a bit. The restaurant was not its usual crowded self but the waiter seemed to have trouble promptly putting out menus, getting drinks etc. when we were only the third party dining there. I liked my haggis pakoras just fine and my chicken and okra special was actually excellent. But my kids' chicken curry was like the Indian version of spaghetti-o and the various sauces were overly sugary. I don't make it to Glasgow frequently so I probably won't be going back this visit... maybe next time.

Yelp
Best curry in Glasgow. Hands down. The service is top notch. I would move here just for this spot. Raj greeted me at the door, just like every customer, chatted me up and found the perfect dish to fit me taste. Well Done!

Yelp
The name says it all... The Wee Curry Shop is wee. You'd probably miss it when walking past. In fact, I didn't notice it was there despite passing it daily from our old flat, which was right around the corner from the Shop. It's a hidden gem in the Garnethill area. Tucked away from the bustle of Cowcaddens Road, it offers an intimate and cosy sanctuary where you can feast on some tasty Indian delights. Lumberjack and I took full advantage of the close proximity, and would find our hungry hungry hippo selves on the doorsteps of the Shop looking for a table. On the occasions we've visited, they had specials with included starters and a main for well under £10. I opted for the chicken saag, because it always seems to be a "safe" bet for my touchy tummy tendencies when it comes to Indian food. The service was great and attentive. They ensured that the food was made sans nuts, because of my nut allergy. Because of the small space, diners can see what is going on in the kitchen. The food came out fresh and tasty. We were satisfied... nom! The sweet and lowdown: tight intimate space, very limited seating, attentive and friendly service, reasonably priced, and fresh and tasty food.

Yelp
Yum.......oh, do i need to write more?? Sorry. This is a cool wee place with kick ass curry, cracking service and a unique wee'ness which adds to your dining experience. I've been to this place a few times now having lived just up the road a few years ago. It truely lives up to its title, but more than makes up for this with some top notch indian cusine. Despite the size i would say the staff are more than accomodationg (had my graduation party/meal here with about 15 over excited relatives, two small children and a blow up horse....don't ask). Try just about anything, its all good.

Yelp
The Wee Curry Shop may be small in size, but it's big on taste. Snuggled in at the bottom of tenement flats in the heart of the city, The Wee Curry Shop offers a unique take on Indian food. Rather than diluating Indian cuisine and its surrounding culture to entice a Scottish audience, this place serves traditional Indian dishes with a Scottish twist. Although it's a small restaurant it is cozy rather than stuffy, and with old fashioned, classic wooden panelling and family friendly booths, its simple, neutral colours are very relaxing by candlelight on a cold evening. Now on to the food - yum, yum! It's light, fresh and zesty and fills you up without making you feel like you'll break the seat. The sauces are flavoured but not too heavy, and the meat is tender and juicy. Usually when I come here I get the Karahi which is outstanding, but I hear the fish is good from some very reliable sources. There are also light, spinach based dishes available which makes this place suitable for veggies and people who shy away from spicy eats. With accomodating staff, a varied menu and an unusual, rickety interior, it's no secret that the eclectic Wee Curry Shop is very popular amongst Glaswegians. I urge you to try this place out for yourself - just book a table well in advance!

Yelp
This must be one of the smallest curry shops around. There are 8 tables, ranging from 2 seats to 4 seats all packed tightly into one room. The kitchen shares this space, which is great as you can see your curry being freshly prepared. There is so little space that you have to wait to be seated outside the restaurant, and the waiters continually get in each others way. The food is amazing. Presentation isn't amazing but it is by far the best curry I've ever had, and for not reasonable prices. The dishes on the menu are more what I would describe as home cooked Indian food rather than the more usual British curry houses. Expect Chicken Thigh and Chickpea curry rather than Lamb Madras. As the restaurant is so small it can be quite hard to get a table. We turned up at 5.30pm (opening time) and had to promise to clear the table by 6.30. This is definitely a place to visit on a trip to Glasgow.
