The Welcome Hotel

9th November - Our lunch choice today was The Welcome Hotel - a great story behind the name of the hotel and given the background of the hotel and the inclusion of dogs being welcome is such a great idea - not the we had ours with us but still it was nice to see such a pub. Quite historic in its decor and a great garden to enjoy our lunch in. The menu had some great options and we enjoyed the Balmain Bug and the Prawn Toast'ada. Unfortunately the Spiced Crispy Cauliflower and Cucmber Raita was not as nice as we expected - it felt a little over fried and the battering took away from the meal. The staff were helpful and accommodating. Great place for lunch in an unexpected part of the Rozelle neighbourhood

l liked it. l liked the decor. The staff were friendly. Most importantly my dog was allowed inside plus they were playing INXS so l was happy about that. Air conditioning in the front bar, a restaurant, an outdoor area. lt was pleasant and relaxing. l would come back. l visited here 3rd February 2025

We had a lunch for 20 on a Sunday to celebrate a significant birthday! Considering Sunday lunch is their busiest time the food arrived at the same time! The table was beautifully set, the staff attentive, the meals plentiful, reasonably priced and delicious! Thanks

Outstanding pub and kitchen. The food is top shelf, with a limited but well selected range of craft beers on tap. If you stopped going because of the below par food back around mid 2019, you need to go back, the kitchen is completely transformed. The Sunday roast is also incredible. Dog friendly, which is a huge plus too. Love this place.

Renovated warm and inviting irish? pub? They finally got a good chef and the food hqs improved to incredible! A must!

This local is a favorite of ours, great atmosphere and friendly staff. The burger special on Monday's and the steak special on Wednesday’s are super tasty, The food is consistently good any night. A must try 👌

We need to talk about the food!! Not your average pub feed thats for sure and i am so thankful and appreciate to the kitchen. Its so refreshing. Huuuge servings with some serious thought on flavour and quality. We went for the Sunday Roast - but i ended up having the Fish & Chips - and was honestly one for the memory bank with thick REAL cut chips and beautifully battered fish. So light and crispy . Tartare was definitely homemade too i reckon and mushy peas were top tier (not usually a fan) they even added a side pickle which helped cut through the richness. I don’t know, just the whole thing was unreal you could tell a lot of effort went into it. And the roasts!!!! Wow wow wow 10/10 i tried my partners pork and nearly fell.off.my.chair. It was so tender drowned in a sticky jus with the crispiest potatoes you have ever seen. Oh and crackling was perfect 🤌🏽 Thank you, Im seriously excited to come back.

A real community pub, lots of local banter and obvious good pub staff and customer relationships! Child friendly outdoor yard. AMAZING taste and texture beef burger. Ales and IPA very good.

This is my local pub and has been since I lived down the street a few years ago. This place never disappoints. The staff are always friendly and have always been able to squeeze my food order out of the kitchen at 9.58pm on a Wednesday on many an occasion. (Thanks again to the legends back in the kitchen). For a pub or even compared to many places I have eaten the food is top shelf and I never regret the money I spend eating and drinking the broad range of beers they have. The feel of this place is old , comfortable and familiar. Always a few grey haired fellas sitting in the corner and many others with family or friends. Great place and close to my heart. Love it!

This is another one of those awesome pubs that tend to be tucked away in the back streets. Yeah, that is one of the things that I absolutely love about the inner city, and that is pubs that generally aren't all that obvious. Yeah, this pub certainly does have a lot of charm about it, and in fact it has a pretty cool beer garden as well. Oh, and they also have a great selection of beers. Yeah, this is definitely working making the effort to visit.

WEDGES!!!! Crispy is by far my favorite word in the English language. I like my wings crispy, my bacon fat crispy, and above all, my WEDGES crispy. And the Welcome delivers. The Welcome's wedges, rather than being coated, are just straight-up potato, as a perfect wedge should be. I'm assuming they are twice-fried to achieve the crispitty, crunchitty, golden brown outside and the soft, creamy, volcanically-hot inside. Why 4 stars, you might say? They give you rather small dishes of sweet chilli and sour cream for your dipping pleasure. I always run out of sweet chilli about halfway through my mountain of crispy, potatoe-y goodness. I then have to embarrass myself by waiting patiently in the food-buying queue before sweetly holding out the empty dish and asking rather sheepishly for more sweet chilli from the always friendly and accommodating staff. And no, it's never crossed my mind to just eat the wedges sans sauce. Condiments on wedges like this are worth more than your self esteem. Oh yea, and the bar's pretty nice too :) Very pub-like without being too old-mannish, with a nice garden. BF says they have some of the best Guinness in Sydney. Wedges and Guinness- what more could a Irish-pub-loving Yelper want?

A constant rotation of craft beer taps in a cosy pub with friendly staff, phenomenal food and a great beer garden to unwind in.

They have a new chef and new management. The food is spectacular and the best it's been since I've been coming here regularly - which is from '04.
