WEDGES!!!!
Crispy is by far my favorite word in the English language. I like my wings crispy, my bacon fat crispy, and above all, my WEDGES crispy. And the Welcome delivers.
The Welcome's wedges, rather than being coated, are just straight-up potato, as a perfect wedge should be. I'm assuming they are twice-fried to achieve the crispitty, crunchitty, golden brown outside and the soft, creamy, volcanically-hot inside.
Why 4 stars, you might say? They give you rather small dishes of sweet chilli and sour cream for your dipping pleasure. I always run out of sweet chilli about halfway through my mountain of crispy, potatoe-y goodness. I then have to embarrass myself by waiting patiently in the food-buying queue before sweetly holding out the empty dish and asking rather sheepishly for more sweet chilli from the always friendly and accommodating staff. And no, it's never crossed my mind to just eat the wedges sans sauce. Condiments on wedges like this are worth more than your self esteem.
Oh yea, and the bar's pretty nice too :) Very pub-like without being too old-mannish, with a nice garden. BF says they have some of the best Guinness in Sydney. Wedges and Guinness- what more could a Irish-pub-loving Yelper want?
