The review is for The Well at Mayflower inn, not the hotel itself. I only gave it 2 stars because the spa itself has great atmosphere and is very aesthetic. But otherwise I had an extremely disappointed experience: I had the worst massage in my life.
1. First of all, the spa seemed really under-staff. I was there at 12:30 pm and all the lockers were either used or missing a robe. I had to check every single locker and finally went to front desk and asked for a robe. Also, a male attendant brought towels into the female locker room, where the guests were changing and showing. Excuse me?
2. My husband and I had a couple’s massage. My therapist either did not cut her nails or had very hard nail polish on. She literally left multiple fingernail trail marks on my back. After hours of my massage, I can still find trials of red marks on my back and the skin was still irritated and inflamed around it. After telling my therapist twice that she was hurting me, she put a dry towel (not soft sheet, but dry hand towel) on my back to create a barrier and continued the service. The towel was coarse…also what’s the point of applying essential oil if she were just going to rub it off with the towel anyways? At least the towel stopped her from hurting me, but it wasn’t a relaxing experience at all. I would have just quit the service, but my husband was getting his service next to me. His massage was okay according to him.
3. The hot tub/pool area wasn’t well maintained. We visited the area on our first day after we check in (around 4 pm). The towel rack was empty and I couldn’t find any staff to replenish. Used towels on lounge chairs next to the pool were not removed. There was hair everywhere on the floor at the sauna/steamed room area.
The place is very aesthetic as shown on the website, but the experience was mediocre at best. It’s very unfortunate because I do enjoy my room and meal at the Mayflower inn, but the spa/massage experience kind of ruin our weekend gateway.
