This was my second time at The Well. My first experience, for my birthday with friends, was phenomenal. We all loved it. I went back recently and got a massage -- it was great. The gentleman was really good and it relaxed me for the rest of the day. However, when we went to the locker rooms (to the steam room and sauna) there were a few issues and obvious cutbacks they made.
For one, the steam room was slightly musty smelling. Next, there used to be several nice products to use for the showers -- great for me and The Well because if I like something I will buy it. However, they replaced the nice in-shower products for generic no-brand body soap, shampoo, etc -- kind of killed the luxury vibe they had. They also don't provide loofahs to wash yourself with like they used to. You're stuck with just your hands and soap.
Second, outside of the showers, there were products to try but they had less of them and the face moisturizer had gone bad and smelled funky - we had to re-wash our faces.
Lastly, they made The Well member-based again so non-members can't wait in the library for their services --generally a nice area. Instead, you're stuffed in the middle of the two rooms and it's cramped. Lastly, they raised the prices of the classes by at least $20 -- that's a huge increase. Also, there was staff seemingly keeping an eye on things, but it seemed awkward and weird with them standing around watching everyone -- though they were very nice.
Overall, as a person who works in marketing, they raised prices, and cut corners on the experience -- essentially taking the luxe out of it all. I get a more luxe experience at my yoga studio which also has a steam room and feels cleaner.
Many of the products went bad, the lotion is sticky, to the point that I just re-showered when I went home. Before, I left so refreshed and smelling great, but this experience was the total opposite. For people who have the money to enjoy this place, this isn't going to cut it. Please figure out a way to save money without losing the magic this place once had.
