How to Visit Oslo, According to Someone Who Spent 6 Years in Scandinavia

"The Well Spa & Hotel provides a holistic approach to health — meaning uniform bathing suits and gowns, a zero-digital policy in restaurants and communal areas, excellent menus, relaxing treatments, and a decidedly tranquil feel in the stunning sculpture garden. Located in Sofiemyr, about 20 minutes from Oslo's city center via its own shuttle, the impressively vast property makes for a divine solo sojourn or a social spa trip." - Alexandra Pereira

I had an amazing stay at The Well Hotel near Oslo! The pools were beautiful and incredibly relaxing, and the massages were some of the best I’ve ever had. The spa rules felt a bit unusual to me as a foreigner, but they added to the unique experience once I got used to them. I especially loved the phone detox, which really helped me unwind and be present. The food was fantastic all day long, with two excellent restaurants right in the building. The beds were super comfy, making it easy to get a perfect night’s sleep.

The well is probably the best Spa Hotel I’ve ever have the pleasure to visit several times. Even if you’re new to saunas they have ones that go from as little as 36C up to 90C so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. They added food to enjoy aside from drinks since the last time I visited which was a pleasant surprise! If you’re new to spa trips, and you don’t feel comfortable with nudity, they have Tuesdays, where you are asked to wear a swimsuit in all places in the facility! I assume that sadly because of the high season workers were pretty busy but in the resting area next to the pool, there was a lot of empty glasses and place that weren’t being collected, which was a shame. Over all 9/10, would recommend to anyone who wants a detox from most things!

The Hotel itself is very nice, feels luxurious! Prices are okay i think, around 3100 NOK for 2 people with Breakfast and SPA access. not that bad. The room itself was very nice, no complaints there at all (NO TV if that is an issue for people). There are multiple mobile free zones in the hotel which i think is great! (So therefore no pictures) Breakfast was nice, so was dinner at Brasseriet, there is also apparantly a really nice Japanese restaurant at the 8th floor, but that was fully booked when we where there. So to the SPA, which i guess is why most people come to The Well. The SPA is nice, it feels new, luxurious and spacious! Which is great. Clothes are optional in the pools, and not allowed in the Saunas (except for tuesdays). My biggest concerns and the reason the hotel does not get a solid 5 is that it's super commercial. Even in the SPA the Aufguss's cost money, I've never experienced this in any other Sauna: There is also no place to just grab some water, tea or some fruit. Everything needs to be bought. Apart from that. Rest at THE WELL and enjoy the Hotel :)

Tldr: It's very nice spa with good variation of saunas and aufgusses, but it gets a bit crowded during the day. It's 'textile optional' that doesn't allow your own swimwear, so if it's one time only-visit and you want to cover yourseld, it's a bit expensive. |And the longer version...|The spa area is well-kept and beautiful and there are plenty of options to choose from. There are pools inside and outside, with different temperatures and you can just spend hours and hours here. The aufgusses are quite frequent and mostly beginner-friendly (and they have marked the hot-ones), but during like 12-17 the aufgusses are super crowded which kinda hinders the relaxation aspect. Also, there was probably some kind of technical room next to the Japanese meditation sauna and the sounds coming from there were a bit distracting in the otherwise peaceful scene.|The spa is 'textile optional' where you can wear swimwear if you want, but that has to be bought from the spa. Also, swimwear is prohibited from the saunas, but that rule was enforced bit inconsistently, which I'd think might confuse and feel a bit unfair; sometimes ppl were told to leave mid-aufguss if the sauna master noticed swimwear, and other times I watched ppl walk in to aufguss with swimwear openly on.|The 'digital detox' thing was lovely and relaxing; I could just hang and enjoy being a happy, chubby seal without worrying that I might appear in someone's social media, and other spas should do the same.|About the food; Brasseriet is an okay restaurant. 3/5 restaurant with forgettable, but okay food and generous portion sizes. It's not great, but as a spa restaurant, it's okay. Mori was...just lovely. It's the edible-gold-truffles-and-caviar- style of fancy, but the food was super tasty, wine pours were good and we left bellies full.|The hotel itself is clean and pretty, and the room was spacious with soft bed.|And the pricepoint? Well, this is in Norway, but considering that I think the pricepoint is somewhat reasonable; it's not like super expensive or anything, but yea it's not cheap either. Especially if you want to cover yourself. I also noticed that other reviewers complained about being stared at, I didn't have such problem, but there were two things that might have affected that: I was here with my husband and without my glasses, I am like a near-sighted mole, so you'd really have to stare at me in order for me to notice.

I just spent the most incredible days at this hotel spa and I'm still reeling from the experience! The facility is brand new and it shows - everything is sleek, modern, and luxurious. From the high-end products and amenities to the premium materials used throughout, it's clear that no detail was spared. The sauna selection is incredible, with a variety of options to suit every preference. The cleanliness is impeccable, and the multiple dining options ensure you can refuel and recharge without leaving the premises. The outdoor pool is a highlight, with perfectly ambient temperatures that make it a joy to lounge around. One of the things that really added to the experience was the strict no-phones-or-cameras policy in most areas - it allowed me to truly unplug and focus on my relaxation. And my room was absolutely perfect - comfortable, clean, and serene. Honestly, this might just be the best spa I've ever been to - I'm already planning my next visit!

The experience is great, and the service is fantastic. Props to the front desk personnel Bona and Emma for providing excellent customer service during check-in. However, I couldn't rank higher because even though the hotel/spa makes claims of inclusivity, all the images and posters we saw were of essentially super models. Not everyone is a size zero and it made my girlfriend feel uncomfortable with herself. I would love to visit again, but next time it would be nice to see displays of all sorts of models. Not just stick figures.

I stayed two nights in this hotel for a business meeting, I tried several times to call to extend the stay by one night but it was impossible to make contact with the hotel, no one ever answered the phone. The recorded voice is only in Norwegian language, I sent two emails to the official addresses of the hotel and no one ever responded. i pointed out what happened at check-in and no one was able to provide a reason for this service faiure.

Stayed three nights here and I can easily say this is the most luxurious hotel I've ever stayed at. The pools and saunas were the real highlight of the stay here, and I would recommend taking advantage of the 8-10am guests only time. As far as the clothing optional nature of the pools and saunas, as an American it was a little intimidating at first but you quickly get used to it and by the last day there I didn't even give it a second thought, my advice would be to just go for it. I don't know if I'll ever be in Norway again, but if I am I would be sure to stay at The Well again.

Yelp
The Well is by far the best spa experience I have ever had. We ended up spending about 5 hours there. Multiple sauna rooms. I did 2 sauna rituals, that were really amazing. The first one was performed by a Russian girl and the second one by a Finnish lady. The music was very upbeat and they both did sort of a dance with a towel. I truly enjoyed it and highly recommend it to anyone that visits Oslo. Definitely the highlight of my trip. I also had a juice that hit the spot. Carrots and ginger.

Yelp
First I'd like to say, thank you for the availability and the opportunity to stay at your establishment. I had the please to stay for 5 nights and my only regret, I didn't stay longer. Next time, I'm staying for a few weeks. This place is nothing but apart of heaven. The staff were extremely helpful and amazing. Even the other guest guests were very polite and fun to be around. It was a very pleasant experience and well needed. I'd recommend this establishment to everyone. I look forward to rebooking again in the future.

Yelp
I have been to heaven, it's called The Well! During my 60+ years on this planet, my wife and I have visited numerous spas throughout the US and Europe, receiving hundreds of spa treatments. This spa trumps them all! It's a very special place. No spa or wellness clinic world wide can compare to the sophistication, beauty, professionalism and expertise by the staff and the entire resort. The Well has set the bar so high, I am uncertain it can be topped by any other spa or resort. It's super clean, beautiful and the spa treatments, sauna's, steam baths and hot tubs make you feel like you are experiencing either an out of body experience or in a dream. We spent two weeks traveling from the north cape, all along the coast of Norway, and our visit to The Well was our best experience and made our trip worthwhile. We had two full days of sightseeing in Oslo and choose to trash those plans and spend the entire time at The Well. Our room was clean and queen size bed was very comfortable. Shower was better than any hotel we visited along our two week trip. We dined at the Brasserie restaurant and food/service was the best we experienced along our two week trip. The food and dishes at the Brasserie were better than most Michelin five star restaurants we have ever dined. Even the bar tenders were awesome, drinks were delicious and unique and they were knowledgeable about everything Norwegian. We were their two day and spent every single minute from 8am to 22pm in the spa. Approximately 75-80% of the people there we in Well Swim wear and the other 25-10% were natural. If we lived in Norway, we would be regulars! In my opinion, The Well should be designated a Norwegian national treasure. If I could rate them 100 stars, I certainly would.

Yelp
This spa does not disappoint. Hands down the best spa that I have ever visited. Multiple steam rooms, saunas, hot tubs, pools, massage jets , out door pools and bar and my favorite was the waterfall cave. I can not describe how gorgeous, relaxing and spectacular this place is. 3 levels of everything you could ever want. Be prepared to stay the entire day as I only was there 3 hours and wished I would have stayed longer. Pay the extra and do the day delux package. You can take the free bus from city center . Amazing, amazing amazing!
