This is a decent hotel, with a lot of shopping within walking distance. The customer service is uneven, but I was able in most cases to get what I needed. There is a swim up bar which is very pleasant to look at, but I didnt get a chance to visit the pool as it closes early (8 or 9pm iirc)
The lobby is nice enough to sit in for brief periods but I wouldn't really want to lounge there for long. The W club has an auto-coffee machine that reminded me of a nespresso on steroids.
I was unhappy that I got dinged for a mini bar charge that didn't belong to me after checkout, but the dollar is strong right now so I guess I'l shrug and pay. (And next time take a photo at checkin lol)
I had to round down because there was an pronounced foul smell in the bathroom that was highly unpleasant, which is why I'm rating the hotel low. It smelled like mildew, trash and sulphur all at once. I don't think it was a problem with the cleaning service, but perhaps the pipes? The glassed-in shower does not have a proper door, just a half closure. The water from the shower drains into the center of the floor of the entire bathroom, which is tiled.
Rooms are on the small side, but cleverly designed - you barely realize it because of the floor-to-ceiling windows and closet doors. The room had an electric kettle, which I appreciated. The bed was comfortable. I was never able to get Chromecast working, and the local channels are 80% Fox channels so I just watched YouTube on my laptop to wind down.
Doors on the room have an electric "do not disturb" feature, and if enabled, you cannot regain entry to your room even with a keycard. Ask me how I found out :-)
The room service was very accommodating when I did order after waking up in the wee hours due to jetlag. I had an egg poached in soy sauce with spinach over rice that was tasty.
On the last night of my stay I splurged on a massage at the spa, which was decent, but since it was evening I didn't get shown around and wasnt offered use of the steamroom/sauna area. I suppose they must have wanted to close up. So book early if you want to explore the spa facilities.
I wish the hotel was better about small touches, like explaining the local attractions. They will not deny requests from a guest, but they dont offer anything either. I felt that I was continually having to ask for things, instead of having those little warm touches that make you feel liek needs are anticipated. It seemed more "look out for yourself/ get it yourself" which is not what I consider a luxury hospitality mindset. Maybe it's just not the Australian style. Clerks seemed very brisk but weirdly disengaged. The exceptions would be the concierge in the Club level, and oddly the valets - who were actually awesome.
FWIW I am a Marriott Bonvoy gold level member, rolling over to platinum sometime next month. I stay at a lot of hotels. Oh, one last thing, they will not offer you the choice of your checkin gift if you are a rewards member. They just tell you that you are getting points.
