"A Very Happy Aperitivo in Florence If a stay at The Westin Excelsior in Florence may not be in your budget, but the aperitivo menu may be. Stop by their posh bar and for 12 Euros get the house wine and all sorts of goodies—a cheese plate, a meat plate, flat bread, and samples of peppers and olives. The menu is titled "Happy Moments" and, at the time I visited, from 7 to 9 in the evening. The attentive service and elegant bar made it a very happy moment, indeed."

2018 Readers' Choice Awards: The Top Hotels in Florence | Condé Nast Traveler

"Right by the river and a short walk to the Duomo and Santa Maria Novella train station, this "little gem within walking distance of everything you want to see in Florence" has "the perfect location," readers say. The interior reflects Tuscan, Empire, and Florentine influences with marble floors, stained glass, tapestries, and frescoes. All accommodations are "huge, beautiful, and top of the line," but "ask for a room with Arno River views" to really feel entrenched. Art Deco–style ORVM Bar serves Italian-Mediterranean specialties that "I still remember." Se.Sto on Arno, the glass-encased rooftop restaurant, offers 360-degree views of the city and an ample selection of Italian wines." - CNT Editors

The Westin Excelsior, Florence (Florence, Tuscany) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"If it’s the classic Florentine experience you’re after, you need look no further: this is the definitive downtown Florence grand hotel, a century-old palace on the banks of the Arno, the sort of place where the Presidential Suite is used by actual presidents. The Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery are a stone’s throw away, and the views, some taking in the river and the rooftops of the city, are fine enough that you might be able to subsidize your travels with a sideline in postcard photography." - Tablet Hotels

It’s a great hotel. Of course we were upgraded ($$$) to one of the riverfront balcony penthouses , which are fit for a king. There is not a better room in Florence, if that’s what you seeking. A highlight of the hotel is location, the rooftop bar and restaurant are unique and beautiful. we were shown the other king rooms and they were nice. Service and all respects in the hotel is extremely professional and friendly. The lobby is beautiful and relaxing. The location is wonderful. The food is average, nothing better than that. Highly recommended Hotel.

Our stay in Florence was truly unforgettable, largely thanks to Constanza at the front desk. From the moment we arrived, she greeted us with warmth and grace that instantly made us feel at home. Constanza’s attention to detail, professionalism, and genuine kindness stood out every single day. She anticipated our needs before we even asked and handled everything with such care and compassion—it’s rare to meet someone who makes hospitality feel so personal and sincere. We also want to thank Manager Petra, whose thoughtful leadership and empathy made our experience even more special, and the tall gentleman at the concierge desk, who provided excellent recommendations and gracious assistance throughout our stay. The hotel’s location is simply the best—right in the heart of Florence, just steps away from the city’s most beautiful landmarks. The combination of outstanding service, comfort, and location made this one of the most memorable stays we’ve ever had. Highly recommended!

We were treated with such professionalism and kindness our entire stay. A lovely young woman (maybe Hannah - she had a cute infant son who we met one night) checked us in and upgraded us automatically. She personally accompanied us to our room which had a bottle of wine and welcome note. The balcony is so lovely for watching the sunset. And I can not recommend the upstairs bar enough - breathtaking views. The concierge Beatrice emailed us before our arrival. I asked her about massage options and she arranged our appointments at the St. Regis which was perfect. The library lobby was comfortable and great for relaxing. The breakfast buffet was a great start to the day. A perfect stay!

I originally did not intend to publish a public review of this hotel. However, after filling out a Marriott survey about my experience at the hotel, I received a very strange email from this hotel that was both highly combative and confrontational. This really soured my overall perspective of our stay even more and has motivated me to write out this review.||I found my stay at the Excelsior to be frustrating and deeply disappointing across both soft and hard product. We were traveling to get married in Italy and spent the night before moving to our wedding hotel at the Excelsior hoping it would be special. It was also part of my wife’s combined birthday and honeymoon trip as her birthday was one week after our stay. Unfortunately, we felt very unwelcome from the start. Perhaps this is because we redeemed our Bonvoy Brilliant award to book this stay. From our perspective, this was no different than us paying $650 for the hotel night as that was the annual fee on the card we paid to receive the night. The hotel clearly did not feel this way and repeatedly reminded us that we were booked on an award stay. When we asked the Bonvoy team if the Excelsior could do anything special for our stay and my Bonvoy Titanium status, they told the Bonvoy team that they would not provide anything as a matter of policy. ||To be fair, upon checking in they did allow us to choose from a selection of 3 standard base rooms with different views. We selected one of these options but this brings me to my frustrations with the hotel’s aging hard product. The rooms are simply not maintained well with stains and scuffs littered throughout the property. While sometimes wear and tear can add depth and character to a room (see the St. Regis Florence across the street), the state of our Excelsior room left us with questions about overall cleanliness. This was especially true for the bathroom which was both extremely small and, frankly, dirty.||The most positive aspect of this hotel is its incredible location. It is truly in the heart of the city. However, the same can be said for a myriad of other properties including the St. Regis across the street which also participates in Marriott Bonvoy. We stayed at that hotel previously and had a magnificent stay! I wish I had booked that hotel for this trip instead.||Overall, I would never return to this property in the future. It is a shame to ever feel unwelcome at a hotel as a guest but it was particularly unfortunate to have that experience on such an important trip. I can only imagine what type of response (either public or private) this review will elicit but I am gla

We came here mid August 2025 on our honeymoon for a 5 night stay. The hotel and room were exceptional. Delicious breakfast, awesome restaurant & rooftop bar, and great amenities. But the service was what really stood out to us. My husband’s luggage was stuck at the London airport for all 5 days of our trip. The concierge was actively working with us to get information about the bag, and get it sent over immediately. They worked tirelessly with calls, emails, etc to airport staff. Our very last day we were checking out, headed to our train to Rome and the concierge notified us the bag had finally touched down in Florence, and they were able to get it on an immediate taxi over. We got the bag and made our train to Rome with the help of all the staff. Special thanks to Andrea and Nico who were a huge help to us. All the staff is extremely professional, friendly, and they really care about making your stay exceptional. They turned our stresses into laughs and we will never forget the kindness the whole Excelsior team showed us during our special stay. I would choose the Excelsior every time when we return to Florence. Much love from the USA!

I had a wonderful stay at the newly rebranded Excelsior, a Luxury Collection Hotel, in Florence. Although there was a change to my itinerary and the reservation was modified at a reasonably late time, the staff on the property went above and beyond to accommodate me during the busy summer travel period, despite the hotel being at high occupancy. I wish to extend a heartfelt recognition and thanks to Ilatia, who was so warm and offered assistance at great length to ensure the stay was a comfortable and memorable one.||The property is a historic building with a rich history, and a refined and up-to-date interior that preserves its legacy. The staff explained during check-in that the hotel has hosted many distinguished guests over the years, including celebrities. The guest room allocated was on the top floor and came with a lovely private terrace, featuring plenty of outdoor seating and a fantastic view of Florence and the Arno River.||Overall, I was very impressed with the hotel's service, amenities, and location, which is within a short walk of all major sights and restaurants. I highly recommend this property and look forward to returning next time I visit Florence.

Quite simply a fabulous lunch. An amazing rooftop experience in Florence.what a beautiful restaurant!!! Food was so delicious. The service was exceptional. Greeted by a charming Jessica and kudos to Ava for taking care of us. Plus to all of the staff for super attentiveness. Can’t wait to return.

Google
Amazing hotel. One of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in. Wonderful staff, everything is sparkling new, and the location couldn't be better! The rooftop restaurant and bars have spectacular views of the city and the Arno river! Couldn't have chosen a better hotel in the city.

Yelp
What a stunning hotel! Spacious rooms, clean, and an old vintage look that makes the experience really unique. Staff were excellent to check in and explain the amenities and hotel. Comfortable beds, 5 minutes from all the action, and a good shower.

Yelp
Exceptional hotel. The entire staff and Concierge team are some of the best I have seen in my travels. Food was great, rooftop bar newly renovated, rooms were clean, well appointed and spacious. Only wish was to have more English speaking TV channels when it came to winding down at night. Situated along the Arno River was within walking distance to anything you needed or wanted for your stay in Italy. Fun fact - Napoleon's sister Carolina Boneparte once owned and resided at the hotel and is buried in the Church across the street. Not to worry the ceilings were very tall! Hehe.

Yelp
Can very fancy and sophisticated be average? Let's first say why I pose this question. My view was, well, not of the river or the cityscape even though I asked for it and was willing to pay. Next, was unable to adjust the water temperature and was very hot and...the water pressure was terrible and there were zero--no charging ports or stations. Finally, the prices were extremely high for food and beverage. All of that said. Imagine you were jettisoned back to the 1600s. The decor was breathtaking and the finishes were glamorous and very high end with statues and pictures specking the walls. The staff were uber attentive and professional. The location was perfect and right next to the river and bordering the square which is also bordered by the church where Botticelli is interred. If you were expecting or wanted a romantic adventure this would be the place. If you were looking for a place to feel special this would also be the place.

Yelp
I do not like posting negative reviews but this was a big disappointment. Had to check in here for a wedding event. For over $1k a night, I expected a lot. I got the old feel vibe of Italy and that was it. The STAFF was amazing but the rooms... let's just say is a no for me. Small and cramped for its rate. There was a leak in my bathroom that came from the upper floor. We were immediately moved to a different room but i was hoping they would move me in a suite especially for $1k a night but i was transferred to the room next to it.. no view, size was ok but still overpriced if you ask me. Breakfast was included but they served the EXACT SAME things days in a row. Sorry westin just wasn't happy. You could do better.

Yelp
Came in for dinner tonight. Most restaurants opens at 7 or later. I decided to have the Caesar salad and pasta dish. Having only sparkling water as tomorrow I have 2 walking tours. Service was excellent and will come back as I am here for 5 days.

Yelp
Over the past 50 years, I've been fortunate to travel to Europe hundreds of times and, have stayed in the best hotels. However, once again, the Westin Excelsior, Florence exceeded all expectations. If you do decide to travel to Florence, there's no thinking or considering to be done. Your stay at the Westin Excelsior you realize why this becomes your home away from home, as it has been mine and my family's now for several years. The positive attributes to this hotel are endless. However, let's focus on the key elements that one would look for when staying at a five-star establishment. The Westin Excelsior provides all the key elements one is looking for to include clean, renovated, well appointed, oversize hotel rooms with proper air conditioning, ventilation, a staff, all around that is completely professional, and will respect all of your concerns and wishes, a fantastic location to everything, and of course, the only hotel in Florence with a penthouse bar overlooking this historic monumental city I do want to point out that the front desk behind the scenes individuals will do whatever is possible to help accommodate your needs, for us it was adjoining hotel rooms. Then there is the most dynamic group of concierge professionals you will find in Florence, who not only have a pulse on everything and anything you need, but happen to be a group of gentlemen that you enjoy their company just sitting and talking about life, as I so thoroughly enjoyed every single day of my trip Bottom line... The Westin Excelsior is indeed a 5+ star hotel that I hate to admit it, has no faults To all my friends and family at the Westin Excelsior have a happy healthy and safe new year and, we look forward to seeing you again same time next year till then, Chin-chin La Familia!! Yelp
The view is spectacular, with walls of glass that allow you to enjoy sweeping views of Florence and the Arno river, but boy do they make you pay! It was 28 euros for a simple gin and tonic! The price for 2 cocktails and a bottle of water was more than I paid for dinner at a sit down restaurant last night!

Yelp
An awesome hidden gem rooftop bar. It has amazing views of all of the main Florence attractions. There were only a few other people up there when we went. It was a peaceful break from all of the hustle and bustle down below. We just came up here for some drinks and they gave us some nuts and chips as well. The drinks and service were great! Definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Florentine syle - the grand version - at its best! It's one of the old palazzos from way back when, that's been done up as a hotel. You know the type - grand staircases, lots of marble, art and sculptures everywhere, and none of it too florid. That pretty much sums it up here. Add to the above staff that is always prompt and helpful, well maintained rooms, and the excellent location, and there really is not too much else to ask for! (ok, a coffee-maker in the room, but then again, there are a couple of excellent cafes right next door, so it's not that critical...)

Yelp
The Westin in Florence is regal hotel perched alongside the Arno river with fantastic views of Ponte Vecchio and the entire city. The lobby is ornate and grand. I loved the abundance of fresh flowers and the large glass chandeliers. The vibe is old school and charming. Rooms are huge. We were upgraded to a suite with a bed that was possibly even larger than king sized. The bathroom has double vanity sinks, a tub and a glass shower. My only gripe is that the room felt a little dated, so I do think they could stand to make a few cosmetic updates. Make sure to visit the rooftop bar for some of the best views of the city. Only one warning is the rooftop bar is extremely pricey. Drinks are around 20 euro. I get that it's a swanky hotel bar (and a rooftop bar at that) but prices didn't feel in line with anything else that we came across in Florence. To put things in perspective, you can get a glass of wine for 4 euro at the bar next door. Higher prices certainly make sense... but I think the discrepancy between other places around was too large. We opted for breakfast over points and I would say it's definitely worth it. There is a large spread with lots of hot and cold options, and even an omelette bar. They also have dining tables outside overlooking the river. I wish we knew about this on our first morning, so we made sure to take advantage of this after. They don't really advertise that you can take your breakfast outside, so something to be aware of. Staff was friendly and attentive, location was prime and the vibe was downright classy. My stay here was certainly a fabulous way to kick off a vacation in Italy!

Yelp
Great roof top bar with really good service and drinks. Highly recommend if you are in Florence. First stop after Positano and Rome.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing hotel. From the location, to the interior, the food and accommodations - it's all wonderful. The staff are kind, welcoming and helpful. This is a must stay. Make sure to visit the rooftop bar for spectacular views.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place randomly when we were searching for a nice rooftop bar to enjoy the Florence sunset. We gazed across the various buildings along the river and saw a place with glass windows on the top and decided to walk towards it. As we entered the Westin, the concierge desk graciously directed us to the rooftop bar on the 6th floor. We didn't have a reservation, but they were able to accommodate a table for 2 outside after 10 min of waiting. I am glad that we waited. The view from the rooftop is phenomenal and we had a gorgeous panoramic view of the sunset. The vibes were good and drinks were delicious (just a little pricey at $22 a drink). The bar provided complimentary snacks, which was a plus.

Yelp
We reserved a room one level above the entry room price and received a very nice upgrade (note, we are platinum level so I'm sure that helps), so I don't know how frequently upgrades are offered to others. See our pictures, but the room included a nice sofa, balcony, and very comfortable bed. I'm not sure of the exact classification, but I would call it a junior suite. The bathroom was spacious including a separate enclosed toilet and bidet area which is useful so more than one person can use the bathroom. Also, we received a welcome of sparkling wine, strawberries, and a front desk escort to the room. So it is understandable, we were put in a very good mood! The exterior of the hotel is beautiful and nicely located to all of the main attractions. We only used a taxi when departing and walked to evening restaurants and all of our sightseeing in Florence over our four-day visit. The hotel both inside and outside definitely has the feel of a Renaissance palace with large common rooms on each level decorated with ornate furniture fixtures, etc. Other things we really enjoyed about the hotel's location is that there was a craft market on Saturday in the square in front of the hotel and the rooftop bar. I also included a couple of pictures. Breakfast is included for gold/platinum members. The choices were plentiful and I think even better than what was offered at the Boscolo Exedra in Rome. Omelet station, lots of hot food items, fresh fruits, cereals, pastry, juices, and even sparkling wine in the morning. The Westin is expensive (but look at the St. Regis rates next door and it will look like a bargain LOL!!), but if you can afford it, it is a very nice product and location for a stay in Florence.

Yelp
Awesome view of the city - especially at night! Wonderful views & great service. Except if you want an espresso martini be sure it's not near closing time. They turn off the machine.

Yelp
I just spent 19 days in Europe, and stayed at many Marriott luxury collections and while the Florence property was beautiful the experience with the hotel was a total disappointment with management's attitude and disregard for loyal Marriott guests. This was my 3rd time staying at this property. 1. I booked with points on the phone with Marriott explicitly stating there were 3 to the room, which was on my confirmation. Upon arrival I was told I needed to pay extra for the extra bed. What wasn't understandable is they charged 90€ on top of the fee for the cot per night for a larger room, which was not much larger than their regular rooms. Total management play for the manager to look good while all disregard for the guest. Upgrading us to help their bottom line, not a courtesy at all. The worst part was i was not told about the extra room charge until check out. Total scam! 2. Every hotel on the trip gave us free breakfast because of the Titanium status except this hotel. Reflecting, the manager has pressure to deliver to the bottom line by abusing Marriott guests. 3. Our shower drain was clogged. We asked the hotel to fix the shower drain. It was obvious the manager and hotel did not care considering it was never fixed nor did they switch our room. 4. Talking to the manager was akin to talking to a wall. This was the only hotel that customer service was lacking big time in certain areas. What was great about the hotel: - The concierge were amazing! - The breakfast was great, along with the restaurant staff. - The hotel ambiance and view were otherwise beautiful. - The hotel location is superb.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite hotels that I've stayed at so far! We booked a Deluxe Suite and it was very spacious for the two of us. We had a street view but were to the left of the Arno and were able to see all of the lush Tuscan hills. WiFi was provided with my SPG Gold status and it was pretty fast for all 4 of our personal computers and phones. The best part of the room was the bed! The sheets were soft, the down blankets were plush and there were several pillows in different shapes and sizes. We also received turndown service which was always a nice touch. FYI, you need to put in your room key in the slot for the lights to work throughout your room. There are converter adapters available to borrow from the concierge but there are also USB outlets in the room to charge your electronics. The breakfast buffet wasn't anything special ($25 euros/pp) for the price but it was convenient and the service was friendly. There were an assortment of fruits, veggies, cereal, an omelette bar and drinks. They also offer Americano coffee! The service was pleasant for the most part. During checkout, we had an issue with our room key (and any replacement/newly keyed keys) that wouldn't open the door. They were able to open our door with the master key and offered to bring our luggage down for us. The location of the hotel is great and within 15-20 minutes walking distance of the City Center and most shopping areas.

Yelp
From the moment we stepped foot inside, to the minute we left Florence, I was blown away by the service at the Westin. Concierge gave us great recommendations for restaurants nearby, and went ahead and made reservations for us. Unfortunately during my trip, the airline canceled my flight home. So as to not inconvenience us, the front desk called the airline, stood on the phone for nearly an hour, then forwarded the call to my suite once they were in touch with a live person. Hotel staff went out of their way to make every bit of our stay exceptional. Then of course theres the view!!! Our room overlooked the canal, so every morning we woke up to folks canoeing up and down the river and horse drawn carriages strolling by. Talk about relaxing AND beautiful!!!! I can't wait to go back!!!

Yelp
Love the hotel still but I down graded it one star because it is beginning to need a bit of a face lift and the bathroom needs some small tweaking However the location is awesome because it is not in the middle of the tourist area but close enough for a nice a walk The river backdrop is always a plus But PLEASE update the hotel!!!!

Yelp
Since my experience at AC hotel (part of Marriott) in Florence was so so, I decided to move somewhere in the middle of the city and fancier so that extended stay in Florence could be more enjoyable. :p I noticed they pre-upgraded the room to one of their river facing premier rooms before my arrival. My room had two large windows (ceilings to floor) where you can get to a nice sized balcony facing to the Arno river. The sunset was awesome, and the reflection of those buildings from Middle Ages on the river was really amazing. The room had high ceilings which made the room even larger. The bathroom was huge as well. The location was perfect - pretty much all the sightseeing spots, restaurants, cafe, wine bars, and shops were within walking distance. All the hotel staff I encountered were very friendly and helpful. A couple of concierge folks gave me very good tips about where to go. Very enjoyable stay and would absolutely stay again.

Yelp
This is a great hotel in Florence! It's across the street from the St. Regis, a sister property, where you can enjoy both properties and charge the balances to your room regardless of which hotel you are staying at. Checkout the rooftop here! Cocktails at the rooftop are not only incredible but also are accompanied by a great view. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This is old conservatory turned hotel and couldn't be better located. Walking distances from all the main area attractions right next to the Arno river, the place is immaculate and luxurious. Absolutely great artwork grace almost every corner of the hotel. They serve a pricey (25 euros) but sumptuous breakfast. Climb the stairs instead of the elevators and admire the beautiful oil paintings. The hotel offers wonderful outdoor running opportunities. Not surprisingly they provide a map for 5K and 8K runs around the river and the park. By the way, it must not be an easy run during peak tourist season - just too many people. We were there in late January and still found quite a bit of foot traffic. Roof-top restaurant/bar is not to be missed, even if were to have a simple drink. They have open area that overlooks the river and town - some views! For a great hotel like this, the gym area was in the basement and barely functional. I suspect they expect you to run outside. Also, there are really not too many meeting areas. So if you plan to meet in a group to work on a project, reserve a meeting room.

Yelp
The most amazing staff I've had the pleasure of being a patron to. Beautiful hotel with an amazing view of the river. The rooftop bar at night is the perfect place for a late night vino. Most of the must-see spots in Florence are within walking distance. The cathedral at Piazza Del Duomo is stunning. I travelled by myself on this trip and said out loud to myself, "holy crap!". I hope that's ok to say out loud. The statue of David is not far for the ladies who want to gaze at his magnificent marble hangy-down parts. The Central market is also close by. But back to the hotel. It's a pleasant stay with full amenities and super friendly staff. Ciao!!

Yelp
This hotel is gorgeous and the location is great for walking to all of Florence's special places - Uffizi gallery, short walk across the Ponte Vecchio to the Palazzo Vecchio, turn the corner for lux shopping on Tornabuoni,... you get my drift. We enjoyed our one night stay even though that alone was bittersweet - only one night in this gorgeous place. The front desk staff was extremely friendly and endured my attempt at remembering high school Italian lessons when speaking to them. They even gave us a river view suite upgrade for our belated honeymoon since I am SPG Platinum complete with a complimentary bottle of chianti for the celebration. Breakfast was an ample buffet and I am thankful to also have had that included from my status vs paying the whopping 45 euro per person. The bed, truly was heavenly and it was a great place to end the trip, before heading back home to gli Stati Uniti. Wish we could have had more time! Cannot wait to return.

Yelp
This is a beautiful hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Andrea, the concierge, was absolutely fantastic! He helped us with every detail and even a few issues we had once we arrived in Florence. I think you'll find the service here exemplary.

Yelp
This review is for the roof top bar only. I did not stay here. We came here on a Saturday night and were able to find a table for our party of 3 fairly quickly. They have aportivo here which is a sampling of meats, breads, and cheeses for your enjoyment with a drink purchase. The selection was quality and refilled fairly often once it got low. That said, the drinks were pricey and there were lots of foreigners here. My Long Island Iced Tea was $16 euro. The views from the roof are worth it though. You can see most of Florence unabated and at night it was gorgeous. We spent some time there and enjoyed the ambiance and conversation. The service was perfect as it was not overbearing but attention was paid to us. Dress nicely and check out the bathrooms if you come up to the rooftop bar!

Yelp
Hands down the best service I've had in any hotel so far. Attentive staff-- even the room service noticed my wife was wearing glasses and provided lens cleaning materials. They gave us wine as a welcome gift. They had umbrellas sitting in the room and near the front door. They have a turn down service. Bar on the top has great views of the city. I was able to call a cab to the airport at 4am using their concierge for 30 euros. Luxury is all here, look no further (and I say this even with a St Regis across the street). I am very happy with this hotel, and would stay here again. Westin Excelsior...excels! YouTube Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KbJQcq1h4c

We had a great time at this hotel. Before we arrived I was a little concerned after reading some of the previous reviews so my experience definitely exceeded my expectations. We arrived around 10:30am on our check-in date but we were greeted warmly when we arrived and the staff did everything they could to get us into a room as soon as possible (less than 2 hours). They acknowledged my platinum status by upgrading us to a large suite that had plenty of space which was nice. I do agree that the carpet should be replaced but the condition wasn't really bad. It was obviously cleaned and didn't hold any odor as others had mentioned in their reviews. The other tough thing about these rooms is that they lack a sufficient amount of outlets. In order to plug anything in you have to unplug lamps. The hotel is really close to a lot of restaurants and tourist attractions. The coliseum is probably a 10min drive or 25 min walk so that was nice. I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
We ate at ORVM, their restaurant/bar at street level. The was great, although we were both in the mood for pizza (after a couple of days in Italy without pizza) these were fine-dining pizzas. What really set the place apart though was the service, the staff were not only polite, they were charming, and made us feel extremely welcome - all restaurants should do this of course, but this place really took it to the next level. Eating there was a wonderful positive experience for that. The location is also lovely, by the river and with a very pleasant view.

Yelp
We visited the Westin Excelsior for our friends' wedding rehearsal dinner. Dining on the rooftop in Florence was one of the best experiences of our trip. The view is absolutely breathtaking!

Yelp
This may be the best hotel that we have ever stayed in! When we arrived late in the day, we were greeted nicely by the front desk person. She acknowledged our gold SPG status and gave us free drinks at the restaurant upstairs. She showed us to our room, drew the curtain, and opened the door to the balcony to show us the beautiful view overlooking the square and the river. There was chocolate on the bed and a lovely bottle of wine provided with fresh fruit decorated by a yellow cymbidium orchid. Our SPG status got us free wifi, which worked well. The hotel is very clean and in a location that is within walking distance of many sites. We grabbed drinks at the restaurant upstairs and took part in the appertivo (7-9, drinks are 18 euros); the restaurant offered a great view of the city. We ate at the restaurant downstairs also, which had a good filet. In addition, the concierge Andrea was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and made a reservation with us. There is no in-house spa, but you can use the one at the St. Regis across the street. We saw Duran Duran exiting the St. Regis from our balcony. We also saw the cars displayed for Modena Cento Ore. The square can sometimes get a bit noisy, but I was usually too tired form sightseeing to notice. The service here was exceptional; the staff was friendly; we had a great experience and would come here again.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of staying here recently and agree that this 5 star hotel is worthy of much more than 5 stars. From the moment of arrival at this centrally located treasure, there was a complete sense of professionalism, calm and luxury. The doormen, concierge and check in staff efficiently exuded gentle kindness, knowledge and service. After traveling 16 hours, this was exactly what I wanted. A friend and I shared a traditionally elegant, quiet and restorative 5th floor room with a seating area and a large marble bath with a huge tub and separate shower. The famous heavenly beds and high thread count linens were just what you would expect here offering superior comfort and relaxation. The room included a huge terrace overlooking the River Arno, this view was a beautiful reminder of my unabashed love of Italy. The daily breakfast buffet was also excellent, quite large with prepared dishes and fresh to order selections for many tastes and desires. The service was outstanding and I especially appreciated the steamed greens, sautéed zucchini and olive oil broccoli at breakfast. I used the gym every day which was very clean and modern with newer machines and mostly empty, which I loved. I also loved its easy 24hr room-key access, jet lag can be a funny thing. I didn't notice a pool anywhere but didn't ask. Each concierge had a different spin on recommendations and all were knowledgeable, connected and seemingly tireless. With all of this perfection, there is still one thing that must not be missed at this particular Westin, if you happen to stay off-site, and that is the roof-top restaurant Sesto-especially at sunset. A complete departure from the traditional Florentine building housing the hotel, this all glass modern addition boasts an almost 360 degree view of Florence and the food was undoubtably some of the best I have ever tasted. The first night we tried the chefs menu consisting of vegetarian and fish selections, and every bite was a flavor filled journey. The monkfish cheeks were especially outstanding, incredibly tender and heavenly. The head chef is a young woman bursting with talent, creativity and obvious knowledge of her craft way beyond her years. She created the menu and it was fresh, unique and completely unlike anything I have ever experienced in any city. Ten stars. If you want to indulge in the ever-popular, Florentine style big steak on a plate, there are many, many good places nearby to experience that. (and they probably do serve it at Sesto, I was too busy with our plates to notice) However, if you are seeking incredibly fresh, deliciously savory and memorable dishes, atmosphere and service, this just might be your place.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of staying at The Westin Excelsior in December 2015 for our wedding. The staff were accommodating. We travel with my daughters who had their own room. My youngest just turned 16 years old and they sent her fresh strawberries, brownies and Champaign(for adults). The day we married we had fresh fruit, pastries and another bottle of Champaign as a congrats! We worked with a few of their wedding coordinators/planners who were wonderful! They understood what we wanted and needed. It was our first time in Italy and what a pleasant experience it was! They were professional, and always so HAPPY to see us all. I would love to return! This is a hands down 5 star experience!

Yelp
MR says ... walking distance to everything Florence MRS says ... it is indeed in a very centralized location but what else do you want in a hotel? a comfy bed. i could easily rate this 5star because everything else was great but of all the westin hotels i've been this by far the not so heavenly stay in terms of sleeping comfort. apparently the king size bed isn't really king size instead it is two full beds tied together. no biggie but the two mattresses are sagging so bad. the middle part of the bed is the only area i don't sink but i could feel the edges of the two beds. room service was fabulous. food was delicious. housekeeping can get annoying since they check the mini bar daily even if you have your "do not disturb" door hanger. they will call you to check if you're needing toiletries/towels. they check if you're still alive. the MAKE A GREEN CHOICE program is only good for 3days so yeah, they have to clean your room. i have nothing against cleanliness and freshly made bed but with time zone difference, i tend to stay up late and wake up late and doesn't want to be bothered.

Yelp
Hands down, the best service I've ever received at a hotel in my life was at The Westin Excelsior in Florence. The staff was exceptional. When we arrived to the hotel, we realized we did not have cash to give the taxi. We ran inside to ask where the nearest ATM was. The concierge, without hesitation, offered to pay it for us and just add it to our bill. Genius. Yes! I knew we were in for an amazing few days. The front desk attendant was beyond helpful. He walked us to our room which was a dream by the way. We had champagne waiting for us with strawberries. Everyone was attentive and willing to help with anything we needed. For the rest of the stay, we were treated like royalty. I have no complaints about this hotel and I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. I can't wait to come back again.

Yelp
My wife and I stay here when ever we are in Florence, one of my (our) best hotel experiences at this hotel. Our last stay could not have been better. Up-graded to their premium-deluxe rooms, floor to celling french doors, 2 balconies, huge bathroom. Fantastic and very prompt staff (something that truly separates this hotel from others in Italy) More review and pictures to follow, but as side note add the breakfast to your room ours was free but its is totally worth it. Have it delivered to your room relax and enjoy the morning. (oh and order everything!)

Yelp
Excellent location, great view of the Arno and Ponte Vecchio, nice square right next to historically significant sites. Plenty of nearby cafes and shopping. Excellent concierge and service. Our top pick for Starwood property in Florence.

Yelp
This restaurant was highly overpriced but if you get just a glass of wine or coffee and enjoy the view, it's worth it. We went around 2:30 when it was rather empty and ordered two glasses of wine for 12 euro each and sat for at least hour enjoying the view. The coffee would have been about 6 euro for an expresso. Again, definitely overpriced... But the view was incredible. Beware, we noticed on the menu that between the hours of 7-9pm, drinks are a minimum of 18 euro each.

Yelp
I was very impressed with the service, decor, dining, and overall experience of this hotel. It definitely lives up to its 5 star status without the insane pricetag. Our room was newly renovated and had the perfect combination of classic Florentine style with a modern twist. Everything was impeccably clean and beautiful, especially the stunning marble bathroom. The service was fast, friendly and went above and beyond expectations. They have an amazing buffet breakfast that features American dishes, Italian and French pastries and some fresh italian hot foods like potatoes, spinach and broccoli in olive oil. The roof top restaurant and bar offers a 270 degree view of the city and has a lovely aperitivo layout. Try one of the SuperFoods cocktails! They are inventive and delicious. They have a lounge area where the light snacks are served which include mussels, salami, sundried tomatoes, and cheeses. Spend an evening at sunset there. That being said, the hotel is away from the bustle of the city center but only a 10 minute walk from the major sites and a 5 minute walk from the shopping. I will definitely stay at this lovely, well priced hotel again.

Yelp
The best service I experienced in Europe during our trip traveling in Italy and France. Warm, friendly, tireless help and attention. The front management was so amazing-especially Francesca-that we decided to stay there just for the attention and welcome we received. The room was impeccable, the bathroom had a huge tub (two of us fit in it...) and shower, the room was gorgeous, decorated reflecting the historical values of the hotel. We had such an amazing sleep, that we overslept the breakfast (not happy...since we heard it is tremendous) woke up at 12 noon, asking for an extension on check out. The location cannot be better, do not loo further!

Yelp
Enjoyed the rooftop bar for pre-dinner drinks. Staff is amazing, views are breathtaking. Best of all, they offer an incredible snack buffet/spread from 6-9 PM, comes free with the purchase of one drink. Delicious food and drinks. Dress to impress.
