The Westin Excelsior, Rome

"A romantic dream," this 1906 hotel is just steps from Trevi Fountain and the Villa Borghese. The Grandluxe rooms offer extended space and "old-world charm," while the Via Veneto Suites are decorated in Biedermeier style with marble-bedecked living rooms and chandeliers. "Each floor’s lobby is like a museum, with gorgeous paintings, statues, and furniture." Feast on "a very good Mediterranean buffet" for lunch or dishes from the à la carte menu at Doney Restaurant, including risotto with wild asparagus, mint, and Morolo cheese. "Staff are amazing at remembering who you are."

Beautiful building from the outside right next door the US Embassy on a nice boulevard. But on the inside, this place is starting to get old. It still has the right bones but could definitely use a makeover. The rooms are spacious with high ceilings and an older, regal aesthetic. The bathrooms have all the amenities but the faux marble needs patching. Housekeeping service is excellent and they are very good about replenishing you daily with water bottles - very vital during this summer's European heatwave. There are only 2 elevators, so being on a lower floor has its advantages. The air conditioning is good, as is the wifi. You can get a great night's sleep in this place (curtains do a great job keeping the light out). The breakfast buffet has a little of everything and is very popular - the quality of the food is adequate but nothing to rave about. The fitness center in the spa is a bit on the smaller side and the equipment is dated. The location of the resort puts you within 15-20 min walking distance to Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, etc. The bellmen are helpful. There are always a couple of concierge staff. Surprisingly, the front desk seems to never have more than 2 staff members, so the lines are quite line.

I travel a lot for business and the Westin brand has consistently gone above and beyond. Due to significant business travel I have the luxury of taking my family on trips. Traveling to Italy was a family trip. The Westin in Rome was outstanding. The hotel was awesome, staff were all very helpful and friendly. The bar is super cool and the restaurant was very good. Our room was great and the house keeping staff were outstanding.

The beautiful Westin awaits with excellent and friendly service. Their heavenly beds are extremely comfortable and rooms are appointed with luxurious products and amenities. No need to pack any bath products when staying here! It is the perfect retreat after exploring the treasures of Rome. The rooms are large and elegant.|The cafe serves an excellent variety of treats and drinks while the restaurant boasts a wonderful buffet breakfast enjoyed inside or outside where you can enjoy the beauty of this historic location.

We spent 3 nights in a premium suite on family vacation. As a marriott ambassador elite member, I was grateful for a room upgrade, however, the room was not ready upon arrival. Thankfully, the staff accommodated us in a temporary smaller room, which was very nice. The suite had wonderful balconies, but the doors were locked. Additionally, the bathroom suite jacuzzi tub jets did not work, nor did the bathroom television. The hotel itself is historic and beautiful. The service was excellent. The breakfast is also wonderful. Overall, I would highly recommend this property and look forward to staying again!

We went for a special occasion as lifetime platinum. The hotel upgraded us to one of the nicest rooms we have ever had in Europe. Truly old-school luxury, incredible fabrics, decorations, view of Via Veneto, very large room, felt like we were in a Roman palazzo! The hotel brings free cappuccino each day, water, all that stuff.||As a tourist visiting, the location really can't be beat. One of the safest parts of Rome, quiet at night, but only 5 minutes walk to the Spanish Steps or the Trevi Fountain walking area. So you can do all your day, then escape to peace and luxury.

We traveled as a group of six family members for a three-night stay—our third visit to Rome and our third time staying at this hotel. We chose it again because of its excellent location and consistently positive experiences.||Check-in was smooth, and although we arrived early and the rooms weren’t ready, the staff quickly stored our luggage so we could explore landmarks like the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and Pantheon.||Prior to arrival, I had requested two connecting rooms, and the hotel was able to accommodate this, placing the other rooms nearby as well. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully prepared, with welcome gifts of snacks and drinks in each.||The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our stay, assisting with anything we needed. We especially enjoyed the breakfast buffet each morning—great variety and a pleasant atmosphere, making it a perfect start to the day.

Great Grand hotel, Beautiful rooms. We have stayed in Rome a dozen times but the first time at the Excelsior. The Staff couldn't have been better the maids were Awesome constantly bringing new towels, water or anything we wished before we could event think of asking for it!. Five stars for their incredible mixologist Daniel, whose drinks and personality set the tone for a wonderful trip.

We were a bit hesitant with our booking at The Westin Excelsior based on some of the negative reviews read. You have to realize this building is over 119 years old. That's pretty typical for many buildings in Rome. With that said, obviously there are aspects that looked a bit dated. Our room although very spacious could use a slight touch up. With that said, it came with the historic feel of this magnificent hotel. This hotel is in an excellent area that is close to everything yet is away from the touristy hustle and bustle, providing relief from a day of "sea of people" at the Rome attractions. That's what we loved about it. The amenities were on par with a resort of this stature. The staff were always ready to serve and super friendly. We loved the vibe of the bar and cafe area.

Yelp
We are in Italy for 8 days, first 3 days staying at the Westin Excelsior. We took the train from Naples to Rome Termini. An amazing experience (55 minutes for $55Euros pp). From the train stop to the Westin, it's an 8 minute Uber ride $20 Euros with tip. The location is perfect, close to many restaurants, small convenient stores and 10 min walk to Spanish Steps. 45 minutes walking to Vatican City or Colosseum. The 45 minutes go by quickly as you walk through parks, quaint streets and other beautiful Italy scenery. The staff is amazing; friendly, helpful and welcoming. Every hotel employee has been nothing but friendly. They also speak English well. Turn downs every night. Rooms equipped with all the necessities when you're away from home. The rooms are large, clean and include a tv, safe, pre-stocked mini fridge. We have a balcony with a street view. The mornings, with the balcony doors open, are quiet & the fresh air is awesome. This is definitely the Rome experience! There's also a fitness center equipped with 4 treadmills, a bike and free weights. A filtered water machine, refrigerated towels and a sauna. Enjoyed my morning workout. The hotel also offers complimentary coffee through a machine. Concierge and front desk staff at helpful. Amenities are perfect. On site bar with many unique drink options. Overall, an amazing introduction to Rome. The employees are friendly! The room is big, clean and the bed is comfortable. Definitely will return and recommend!

Yelp
Loved this hotel, we had a great suite compliments of my Marriott status. Better yet was the bar that we took advantage of every night. The bartenders were purist and did everything to make the perfect drink. I watch how much time they put into the Old Fashion and it paid off. I like seeing bartenders that put the work into making their drinks the best they can be.

Yelp
The people here are nice for the most part, but I ran into a very sad man who was working at the coffee table. He was super disrespectful to my mother who only wanted a cup of coffee. We were guided there by the front desk only to be told by a rude old man who was working there to go somewhere else. Aside from that the room is nice and the service is subpar. The elevator sounds like it's about to fall at any minute. We ordered a bucket of ice and the spoon they gave us to scoop the ice was not even clean, it looked like mold on the spoon. I would not recommend staying here especially if you have the money to go elsewhere.

Yelp
I am a Titanium level Marriott Bonvoy member. Booked a room for almost 100,000 points. Arrived at 11:00 a.m. asking for an early check-in. I was told the room was not ready. Understandable. I explored other parts of the city and contacted the hotel hourly. Returned a little before 3:00, and watched several who checked in after me finally receive a room. I asked for the hotel manager to express my displeasure that the room was not ready by check-in (3:00 p.m.). Manager had the audacity to argue that technically check-in wasn't until 4:00. I had another tour, so unfortunately didn't have time to utilize the beautiful yet outdated room. Bell staff was wonderful, but the manager and front desk staff seemed to not care that I was put out. Borderline arrogant, and I think they have lost concern for the customer due to a wonderful location (next door to US Embassy) and the fact they are typically fully booked. It was a beautiful hotel, but not for 100,000 points for a room that I had for about 10 hours. I will not return and will seek another location where I my stay will hopefully be more appreciated. It certainly wasn't at the Westin Excelsior.

Yelp
What a lousy experience in Italy.! They get a zero for service .. zero for food don't ever order pizza, it's an insult for Italy they don't even know how to make it unless you want to eat raw dough never never again !! They ruined my evening and my dinner Too bad it's a Fancy tourist trap

Yelp
Nice, if slightly dated hotel with a nice location near the borghese gardens and huge rooms. The (relatively) inexpensive price (300 eur/night) and included breakfast with omelette bar and nice salad bumped it up to 5 stars for me. I stayed here because there was a conference up the block at the Marriott Grand Flora, but no rooms there were remotely reasonably priced. This turned out to be a great hotel even if the extra few blocks means that it has no view of the Gardens or view of the room to speak of. I wasn't there to spend time in the room though so that was fine. The actual room I got was huge (if a bit dated) and would have had floor space for me to easily do an entire floor workout and an expansive bathroom with a tub, toilet, bidet and rain shower. Mostly wasted on my trip, but still nice enough. The window I had looked out on the interior courtyard which just contained mechanical things, so nothing there. The desk was smaller than I wished for the few conference calls I had to make, but still serviceable. I wish there were a few extra outlets and maybe a few USB plugs (see above about being dated), but it all worked. Other than the location, the other thing was the great breakfast with an omelette bar, salad, fruit, pastries and honey comb. Having a great omelet and some actual vegetables (as well as respectable coffee) to stat my day every day I was here was a huge plus.

Yelp
Visually stunning, the Westin Excelsior is a treat for the eyes but a frustration for the guests. On the positive side, the hotel amenities are impressive. Common areas are grand and the rooms are massive, some with impressive balconies and views. The gym is perfectly acceptable. But the service is slow, the food and drink massively overpriced, and the concierge ineffective (perfectly nice, but not particularly useful). I grew old trying to check in, watching time move backwards. Charging for WiFi after day 3 is just silly given the room costs and the fact that the Excelsior presents itself as a luxury accommodation. Room service and restaurant quality were well below average and massively over-priced. Roman taxis were on strike during our stay, so we turned to the concierge for travel assistance. They were perfectly nice but had no suggestions other than to simply cancel any plans that required ground transportation - like going to the airport to come home. Their bar and restaurant recommendations were disappointing to say the least.

Yelp
Not perfect, but really a top hotel if you can get a good rate--which is often possible and unusual for the neighborhood. The rooms are classic, many with fantastic antiques. The front desk is courteous although not always fast and efficient. Housekeeping is okay. They often miss little details like cleaning all of the mirrors and replacing used bathroom amenities and towels. The Orvm Bar on the property is one of the best in Rome. The restaurant, Doney, is okay but not remarkable. I recommend this Westin if you want to stay on Via Veneto, and book well in advance to get a good rate.

Yelp
This is a full service American Hotel that has a lot to offer and a great location. It is located right next to the US embassy. It is a full service hotel with large rooms and a full staff. The Bar was very convenient and the bartenders were very professional and willing to make dinner recommendation and local tips for the area. The hotel has a full service restaurant that has a decent menu and also offers a breakfast Buffet each morning. I liked that the rooms had 2 full queen size beds unlike most European hotels with 2 twins which made the stay comfortable.

Dave B.

Yelp
They really tried but the property is just tired , service was good , property is well located just old!

Yelp
Good location, historic, clean, friendly staff. Our room had two twins, was huge and bathroom was amazing. Very nice breakfast buffet.

Yelp
The property itself was simply amazing and the service was even better. Highly recommend on every level. From the moment we arrived at the hotel we were treated exceptionally Special thanks to General Manager Marc Lannoy for going above and beyond!!

Yelp
The Westin Excelsior is a beautiful grand hotel centrally located near the Borghese gardens/galleries. The lobby is enormous and ornate and the halls and common areas are also quite expansive. The rooms have high ceilings and and are oversized (a welcome change from most tiny hotel rooms in Europe). The rooms are decorated in a very classic vintage decor, so if you prefer modern design, maybe look at other options. The bathrooms feel their age a bit too and may be in need of an update. The breakfast is served in the Doney Restaurant on the ground floor and includes sidewalk patio seating which is quite pleasant (only drawback of the patio seating is that the tour buses pick up by here so it can get loud/crowded with tourists waiting for pickup). The breakfast was quite nice and they had eggs made to order among a wide variety of breakfast options. The concierge was very helpful too in suggesting nearby places to visit or dine. Also there is a taxi stop just around the corner (it's actually hard to find a taxi around this area and Uber did not working here.) The gym is a tiny tiny room in the basement with some equipment and some workout items. Could use an update as well.

Yelp
€58 for two house gin and tonics and 1 shot of Canadian club 58!!!!! I don't even know what to say ... I would never go back to a place that thinks that is acceptable I understand you are a fancy hotel but almost $75 US for three well drinks is unacceptable I would not support this place

Yelp
It is a beautiful building - as soon as you walk in the lobby area, you are taken to part of its history. They upgraded my room to a lovely/spectacular suite with real antique furniture and balconies. Unlike some of the reviews, my experience was great. All the employees that I encountered - Bellman, Front Desk staff, Concierge, and Bartenders - they were all friendly and helpful. The front desk agents described all the benefits I would get and asked me how my trip was/has been, the bellman explained various facilities when he was escorting to the room, the concierge booked a nice neighborhood restaurant where tasty carbonara was served. The bar was also beautifully designed. I also liked the live piano play. It was a perfect way to finish a busy day while listening to soothing music. Too bad, my stay was only for a night. I'll definitely come back and hoping to stay longer next time!

Yelp
There is only one reason I am giving this hotel a 3 instead of the 1 it deserves and that is because of an excellent employee by the name of Rita who helped make our stay, which was turning out to be a disaster, somewhat acceptable. I read some of the other reviews. My experience was almost exactly the same as that of Marc S. There was no bellman to help us with our luggage when we arrived. And there was no ramp to wheel our luggage up so we me and my daughter had to carry our luggage up the stairs. After waiting in the long line because they don't honor the line specifically for gold and platinum members I checked in. I was told we didn't have free breakfast even though we had purchased the breakfast package. I had to argue to get what I paid for. The young girl who checked us in was having a personal conversation with one of the other reception people and was so uninterested in her job it was quite astounding. She asked who helped with the luggage. I said no one and was obviously annoyed about it. She didn't care. We carried our suitcases up a few more stairs to get to the elevator and got to our room as we passed a very large family with at least 10 screaming children under 3 years old. The room was, as Marc S stated, subpar. There was a dirty gross old arm chair and the beds. And we could hear the screaming kids. I went back downstairs and thank goodness spoke to Rita. She (everyone) could hear the screaming kids even at the reception. I showed her the pictures of the rooms they represented online and said it was nothing like that. She said it was their other style of room. (As opposed to the old dirty worn out style??) She showed me three rooms that were a lot better and we picked one. The room was fine at first glance, but as we moved into the room we noticed how stained and dirty the carpets are. And how desperately the walls need to be painted. The concierge was also not at all helpful. I asked for a restaurant recommendation. In all the other about 200 hotels I've stayed at in my life, they always pull out a map, make a reservation, write down the name of the place - something. Here I was told as a huge favor to go three blocks down and there will be a place on the right. I've stayed at many Westin's around the world. I love their heavenly beds. The bed here is very hard and did not feel like a Westin heavenly bed. Like several other people who have written their reviews, I find that this hotel is beautiful on the outside. But it's old and tired and dirty and the staff are in desperate need of a training session so they all give the same customer service as Rita who has been working there for a long time.

Carolyn M.

Yelp
Stayed here over the weekend and wished we had booked elsewhere. Staff don't make you feel welcomed, I felt as if I was burdening them at check in desk just by being there. 2 light switches to control all of the lights, so if you wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, all of the lights in the bedroom will go on as well. No iron/ steamer in the room, though that may be an Italy thing. You're about 10 minute walk from town. Will stay somewhere else next time.

Yelp
We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights prior to our cruise. Our room was very spacious with a comfortable bed and large bathroom. It was located next to the US consulate, near the train station, and around tasty cafes. It was easy to get a taxi to the Colosseum or other historic attractions. Everyone spoke good English and were very helpful and friendly. We were well taken care of by the doormen. We would definitely stay here on another trip to Rime.

Yelp
This hotel has historic class. During my time in Rome they made me feel like a King. First class service and a great location. Your right down the street from some great restaurants. My favorite was Restaurant Pizzaria San Marco. ( Not Just Pizza) Real Italian meals. Back to the Westin, they had a 1 man entertainment in the lobby lounge. He played the piano, violin and sang some great music. He was asking for our request (English and Italian). The Westin will be my pick on my next trip to Rome.

Yelp
Stayed here through Tauck Tours. Quieter part of Rome and on higher elevation (cooler). Next to the U.S. embassy. Walking distance to Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, pricey shops. Well-heeled clientele. Large lobby areas with 40 (?) foot high ceilings. Friendly front desk staff. Large, well-appointed rooms. Free wi-fi, but beware of hackers using it for remote access (I'm a victim). The hotel's main restaurant offers a beautifully presented, and better-than-average flavored buffet. I'd stay here again.

Yelp
As a whole I love the Westin chain. However, this Westin was incredibly disappointing. We stayed here for three days at the end of a wonderful vacation. I was looking forward to having a luxurious experience and enjoying a beautiful hotel. Unfortunately, the hallways are dirty and in need of a paint job and a deep cleaning, and our room was extremely run down and dirty. On our first day we spoke to the front desk and let them know that the bedside lamp was broken and the light fixture in the bathroom was ready to fall from the ceiling. They assured us that it would be fixed, but it was not addressed in our three days there. I also killed a cockroach crawling across our floor, and I left the cockroach on the floor. housekeeping did not vacuum it up or remove it over the three days of our stay. It's actually probably still sitting there today. This is the hotel that has rested on its reputation, and nice neighborhood. A disappointing experience overall. Especially as this is not an inexpensive hotel.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel right by the borghese Gardens. Easy walking distance to the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and several other key tourist sites in Rome. The interior is a nice mix of historic and new. My room had a beautiful marble balcony, deep soaking tub, and inlaid fireplace. Prompt service made check it easy. Concierge organized a car to the airport, making it a very easy travel day.

Camille V.

Yelp
This hotel has lost it's luster. The restaurant and bar are outrageously overpriced. The lobby and amenities are old world and still impressive at first, but a closer look exposes the lack of upkeep. I gave 2 stars for our bathroom. The shower is leaking through the frame leaving puddles and causing stains on the marble. The room carpet needs replacing. The sink leaked all night and the most annoying was the CONSTANT buzzing coming from the wifi system. We used points and still had to pay $116 per night and that didn't include breakfast. The St Regis is a better choice!
google avatar

Curt W.

Yelp
Outstanding service and amenities. I would never stay anywhere else! They take care of and have planned for every need. Our room was beautiful and the heat/ ac was wonderful. The bar is one of those places with overstuffed chairs and snacks served with every drink .

Yelp
We have always had stellar experiences with Marriott, both in the U.S and abroad. However, Westin Excelsior Rome was an utter disappointment. Besides the beautifully decorated lobby/ common areas and friendly staff, every other aspect was a complete let down. First, the redeeming qualities: centrally located, within walkable distance to the Colosseum, Spanish steps, Pantheon, Trevi fountain, and plaza Navona. There are also a lot of food options nearby. The staff and concierge were friendly and helpful. Onto the abysmal. Let's begin with our check in. After booking a single king bed online, we were given two double beds. We requested a room reassignment and were initially told that most people just pushed two doubles together for a makeshift king. For a 5-star hotel, we were shocked, and kindly told them that we would rather just have a room with an actual king bed. After a disappointing check in, we finally got to our rooms, which were pretty decent: clean, and with all the usual amenities of a 5 star hotel. Another stingy fact that we stumbled upon: each room is allowed only two bottles of water. If you want more- you get two large bottles (delivered to you by room service at 8 euros per bottle). We found out the hard way. A few other less than suboptimal qualities: wifi comes at a cost (free for one day only), the gym and pool are relatively small (especially the pool). Given that we've had so many positive experiences with Marriott elsewhere, I hope that this specific location is a fluke.

Yelp
This is a beautiful old world hotel on what once was a famous street in Rome. The hotel would get a 5 star but I could never get the hot water to stop fluctuating from cold back to hot...I stayed 6 nights and not once did I have consistent hot water...a small price to pay, the hotel is old but has been updated to modern standards and the food is great. Also the service was always good and the staff was always nice. Only one other downfall, the club behind the hotel starts at midnight and plays loud music all night long...I was out all night long so it didn't bother me but it did wake me up on the one night I went to bed early.

Yelp
With passion for Italian history, and a penchant for healthy living, The Westin Excelsior Rome brings luxury and wellness to a popular Roman street. Centrally located on the Via Veneto, the Westin Excelsior is only a short distance away from some of the most celebrated attractions in the city, such as The Spanish Steps and The Borghese Gardens and Gallery. I stayed at the Westin for one night earlier this month, and was absolutely awed by the presence this hotel embraces on the street. With a muted cream façade, symmetric with rows of windows, the word "Excelsior" shines from the top of the renowned dome. While many have amassed the breathtaking scenery of the building's exterior, I was lucky enough to get the full experience. Greeted by the reds and greens of the holiday, I loved the trees and rustic, natural decorations at the entryway. The lobby was decorated appropriately for the season, with a greenery display of poinsettias, strategically arranged to mimic the cone shape of the traditional Christmas tree. Totally original and upscale, this was just one of many decorations making the hotel a little more festive. I checked in to the junior suite, a spacious accommodation with a separate living room. I immediately took to the window, as the view from the room looking out over the city captivated me. Once I took in the walls around me, I felt like royalty. Lush reds and rich golds everywhere, the suite was the epitome of luxury. I slept soundly in the Heavenly king bed, with plenty of room to spread out and relax. And when it came to relaxing, nothing helped me unwind from a day on the Via Veneto like a soak in the lavish real marble bathroom. I wrapped myself in the complimentary plush robe, feeling divine. The service at the hotel was outstanding, as each person I encountered was friendly and always ready to lend a hand or assist me in any way possible. This truly was an experience I'll never forget, and forever recommend. You know what they say: "When in Rome...stay at the Westin Excelsior!"

Yelp
I'm giving them two stars for the amazing decor and the soaps! Yes I said soaps! That's it! We arrived as scheduled previously with the hotel per an email request to arrive early. Of course every excuse was made as to why the room was not ready by the trainee desk clerk, then VOILA'! Suddenly in his next sentence he is going to do us a favor and get us a room. Immediately! Wait! Wasn't there no rooms and now suddenly there is? Oh yes! There was! A DOWNGRADED ROOM!!! Oh BUT OF COURSE! We were supposed to be in a deluxe suite. Well there was nothing suite about it. The window over looked a very busy alley that was used for who knows what.... EVERYTHING!!! You hear the clicking and clacking of every cart being pushed down the alley! Then housekeeping service enters the room while we are napping, no biggie unless you're in your birthday suits! However again at 9:43 pm!!!!! This fool shows up AGAIN!!! This is one determined housekeeper!!!! So he's ringing the doorbell, knocking and shouting outside the door!!!! Wakes us up out of a dead sleep and we have an early flight to catch! It's not that I don't like turndown service, or even the occasional noise from the dirty alley view... but at $530euros a night... COME ON!!! SERIOUSLY SAVE YOUR CASH AND GO ELSEWHERE! Unless you need soap! Then by all means!!!

Yelp
I stayed here with my mother during our first trip to Rome. We were notified before we arrived we were upgraded and we had no idea what we were in store for. Immediately the front desk was so gracious to us and the lobby was absolutely beautiful. It was December when we visited and there was a grand Christmas tree all lit up. There also was live music being performed every night by one person who could play many instruments. Very talented and great atmosphere to the hotel bar. Once we got to the room our jaws were on the floor at how beautiful and magnificent it was. My first impression was that we were in a palace. "Upgrade" meant a separate living room connected to the bedroom along with two bathrooms. The gold accents around the room made it feel like we were royalty. Everything was clean and wonderful. The breakfast at the restaurant in the morning was also delicious and I highly recommend having it at least a couple times. Overall the service was great and the room was amazing. I hope to feel this royal at any other stay in Europe.

Yelp
Love this hotel - so beautiful - reminds e of the old grand hotels - the bar is like a chemistry lab of specialty cocktails

Yelp
Great property in a good location in Rome. Built in 1906 so the rooms are not up to the tech and facilities standards of a modern hotel but the Westin Excelsior more than makes up for it with ambiance and history. Staff was a bit on the abrupt side but normal for most European hotels and better than most. Restaurant was so so but there were many options within a very short walk.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning hotel!! My room was amazing and very European style with marble. Room was huge! Great service and I would give it 5 stars except no free coffee in room or around hotel, but would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Well, I'm back again, and the hotel is still lovely, and the soup is still 20-22 euros. So, you know. Don't crave room service soup unless you have deep pockets. And I hate to be nitpicky Marc, but the showers aren't fixed either - they still go hot and cold.

Yelp
We just returned from our trip to Rome and a Mediterranean cruise and we stayed before and after the cruise at the Excelsior. We stayed with our teenaged daughter in a suite for two nights and a room for one. Both were lovely. In the suite our daughter had a large living room to herself w a rollaway and her own bathroom. The room we had for the last night we shared but was large and included an oversized balcony with a beautiful view. We were delivered ice promptly when requested and the staff was generally very helpful. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet each morning. Altogether a great experience!

Yelp
A luxury experience with an old school design. I prefer functionality to the golden finishing and smoked glasses but I have to admit that the hotel makes for a pleasurable stay. First off, it's massive, which is nothing short of impressive given the fancy location. Secondly, you have all the perks your wallet is willing to pay for, including a legit fitness center with pool. A tiny pool, granted, but better than nothing. It really doesn't strike me as a business-friendly hotel, for work I'd go somewhere else. For a vacation with all the comforts, smack in the center of Via Veneto, then you're in the right place. Grandiose architecture, steps away from Piazza di Spagna or Villa Borghese. It's a Westin, so all SPG point-horses will feel at home. What really struck me was the breakfast buffet, a feast for those with no dietary restrictions. Name a food, it's there, although with a clear Italian-ness to it: local cold cuts, local sweets, even local yogurts. Nothing wrong with that. Not cheap, not bad at all.

Yelp
I don't recommend this hotel. Rooms smell musty and are gross. Carpet is old. The thought of walking on them barefoot makes my feet itch. Bed has a huge bump in the middle. Air conditioner doesn't work well. Staff very nice and friendly. When I return to Rome I will definitely research a different hotel! :(

Yelp
We were in Rome for Easter week and decided to stay at the Westin for three nights, and we're happy we did! Upon check-in, our room was not ready yet, which was somewhat frustrating. However, after a relatively short wait, we were escorted up to our room and pleasantly surprised by our room upgrade! We had a street view room, with a beautiful balcony that we could've sat on all day and just watched life pass us by! The hotel is in a great location, walking distance to the Spanish steps and shops, as well as the Trevi Fountain, if you have energy to do so! The lobby bar is beautifully done, with a great selection of drinks!!! In addition, we used the gym which was a bit hot, but had all the amenities needed, and was just perfect. Great hotel, great staff, and great location!

Yelp
One of my favorite hotels in Europe. The famous site of La Dolce Vita on the Via Veneto. The service here is top notch, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. I love the buffet breakfasts here that get your day started. When in Rome, I would not stay any place else. La Dolce Vita!

Yelp
A beautiful hotel which is very close to five stars in Roma. Perfectly located near fine and casual shops and restaurants. My room is very princess like! Service is stellar! It's an older property but upgraded in nice taste. There is AC in room but not in gym. Beautiful robes in room. Comfy bedding. I never tried the TV because this is Roma! My complements to the management for such nice quality service and especially the beautiful anniversary gift of sparking wine and desserts! Loved it and will be back. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Beautiful old world charm, italian marble and chandeliers everwhere. A few steps from the walls of Rome and Villa Borghese park. Service is very good and accomodated us perfectly. Our room had a balcony. Bathrooms are very big. Beds are comfortable. Walking distance to great shopping.

Yelp
Stayed at this Westin for 4 days at the end of a trip to Europe (which included Westins in Paris, Venice & Florence) and this was by far our favorite one. Our room had lofty ceilings and a balcony facing the American Embassy. The temperature settings were easy for us to understand and there were always plenty of towels. The breakfast buffet was expansive and a solid deal. It was also lovely to have happy hour drinks outside at the Downey cafe (they give some complimentary appetizers) or after dinner drinks in the hotel lobby (complete with live music). The restaurants in the surrounding area were delicious and the concierge had great suggestions. Overall one of our favorite westins (as SPGers we have seen quite a few)

Yelp
We've been here 3 nights with 2 nights to go but I wish I would have selected another hotel in Rome. The building is beautiful but the staff doesn't care. Perhaps the location of this Westin lends itself to too many business travelers that they don't care about the family tourist business, but even if I were here for business I'd be unhappy. 1). We've walked in and out of this hotel a few dozen times since we arrived 3 days ago and we've never once been greeted as we walked in the door. We're invisible. 2). The breakfast at the hotel restaurant is very overpriced and really bad service - even for a self service buffet. The omelette maker is not friendly and lacks an abundance of ingredients. (No onions or spinach when we were there). Getting beverage from the servers for my son who was ordering off the menu was slow and difficult. Servers and hostess were unfriendly. We went the first morning (of 5 nights) and refuse to return for any meals. 3). The room amenities are weak compared to other hotels in this category. We were at the Westin Grand in Munich last week, the JW Marriott Venice and even the Enjoy Garda Hotel hotel in the past two weeks and all trump the Westin Excelsior in simple things like cotton swabs, mouthwash, emery nail boards, etc in the room. We didn't even receive bottled water today (and I'm SPG Gold). I wish I would have reserved the St. Regis Rome instead of this Westin. Post Stay Edit- we stayed for 5 nights total and the only time we were acknowledged by hotel staff doorman with a simple greeting was when the doorman saw our luggage during checkout and was hoping for a tip. Basic politeness needs to be instructed at this hotel. Maybe a "buongiorno" and a smile to guests?? The hotel concierges we interacted with were knowledgeable but smug attitude and didn't seem to enjoy their employment. Btw, first floor room was loud from street traffic. Housekeeping banged on our room door at 8:30 am on a Saturday morning after our final night; granted we did not have a "do not disturb" sigh displayed but would not have expected to need one at 8:30 on a weekend morning. Nice gym and pool.

Yelp
Latest Update - The General Manager contacted me immediately and offered to correct the situation described below by changing my room. I am not used to getting immediate response and attention through social media but at the Westin - I received it. What a wonderful level of customer service! I love the Westin! You deserve 5 stars! I am here now and I have to say its located centrally - convenient to many attractions. The hotel is beautiful and the amenities are wonderful but we ordered a king size bed and its just two twin beds pushed together. Perhaps this is a European thing - not sure. This makes sleeping less comfortable since I tend to sleep more in the middle and I am now "leaning" into the space between the matresses. Why would a hotel like this do that to their guests? Yelp
We stayed at the Westin Excelsior for 3 nights. Upon checking in no one offered us help with luggage (to be fair, I didn't see them helping anyone else either). We checked in and they gave us a subpar room which honestly I was grateful just to have a room because my wife and I were tired from traveling and most importantly we weren't staying in Rome because we'd been to Rome before. We basically used the hotel as storage for our luggage because we spend two full days in Venice. I digress. Upon returning on the third night from Venice, a worker from the front area basically followed and harassed us asking if we were staying here because we had luggage and we were looking around the property because we hadn't been at the hotel for 2 days now. He aggressively asks me for my name and storms off. These people had 2 small windows of opportunity to show their hospitality and failed miserably. I will definitely not be staying here again. I will not be recommending this property and I am so disappointed, as I've been to Italy many times and never experienced this behavior from professionals in the hospitality industry. Please yelp family do yourselves a favor, don't stay here. Their are many other wonderful places that will take your money and treat you with dignity. Additionally, the hotel needs major renovations and looks very old and tired. Location is the only thing going for it at this point. Sincerely, Dr Smith

Yelp
Undecided between giving this place a three or four star rating. When we stayed, our room was showing its age, although front desk service was pretty good and check-in was very quick (a pretty big deal, as we were part of a large cruise group). The hotel's location is also pretty good, located near the American embassy, Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. As part of our cruise, we were provided a free hot breakfast, but that was served in a ballroom and so we never had a chance to actually check out the restaurant on premises.

Yelp
I'm thoroughly enjoying my stay here so far. The staff is very nice and the room is beautifully decorated. Great location for a quick walk or short taxi to some of the major landmarks.

Yelp
When in Rome....you should stay at the Excelsior. This hotel is one of my absolute favorites. I stayed in a sweet junior suite last time I went to visit family and the hotel is spectacular. It is historic but has a lot of classic details: fine antique furniture, thick silk drapes, white crown molding, chandeliers, Empire style furniture and much more. You feel like royalty when you walk through the lobby. The service is 5 star. White glove doormen and extremely knowledgeable staff. It may be located in a tourist neighborhood but it was a good location to get to most sights and other neighborhoods. The dining areas were also exquisite and we had meals both in the hotel and the surrounding area. The prices start at around $360 USD per night (not during busy season) so be prepared to pay big bucks but I truly enjoyed my stay there!
