The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort

Rooms 5; Service 5; Location 5 stars. We just spent 11 days at this resort and everything was perfect. The first impression when you arrive at the lobby is a breathtaking view of the ocean and pools. The staff greets you with a lei, a tropical juice, and a cold towel, with a smile. The beach is easily accessible with plenty of sun umbrellas. The staff, including the concierges, were all very friendly, attentive and helpful. Their main concern is to make everyone feel comfortable and happy. Our whole family enjoyed the stay so much that we decided to return as often as possible.

Beachfront resort- amazing views (great for pictures). Upon arrival, they greeted us with lei’s, beads, and fresh juice. The resort was very clean and everyone was very nice. Two pools: a family-friendly one and an adult one. We only used the family-friendly pool. They had loungers set up at the pool and at the beach- waitstaff served those at the pool. Surprised that the pool didn’t have music or an activities person to create fun. We could see whales from our main floor room! We saw them jump out of the water and make a big splash! We could see them moving around at the surface of the water, breathing from their blowholes. This was an absolute amazing sight to see! Advice: bring a blowup beach ball for the pool since there isn’t a slide or anything else to entertain kids while splashing around (and they only have volleyballs and basketballs for purchase). Restaurants were fine but not many options for those who can’t have gluten, unless you’re fine with eating the very same thing every day. Huge breakfast buffet every morning (but very little gluten free options so not worth the money for me). Two main restaurants and one of them is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. There’s nothing within walking distance of the resort so if you want to find other food, you’ll have to drive a good distance to find something. My MIL has difficulty walking and there’s only one elevator to get down to the pool and both restaurants. Unfortunately, her room was on the opposite side of the resort as the elevator (so she still had to do a lot of walking to get to the elevator). And because the resort sits up higher on the property, she was never able to go down to the beach (no safe access for anyone with a disability). I got a great massage from Christine (or maybe Christina was her name) at the Mandara Spa. I highly recommend! Overall, it was a beautiful place to stay and swim. If you have kids, you’ll need to entertain them yourself. And if you have food allergies, plan ahead.

The Westin Hapuna Beach has changed hands several times. The Westin has done a great job with the updates and the property is beautiful. Overlooking Hapuna Beach, the sunsets and sun rises were beautiful. Views of Mount Hualalai and Mauna Kea can be seen on clear days. A variety of restaurants to accomodate different travelers budgets was nice to see. The staff from the valet, to the front desk, housekeeping, cultural activities and beach were the best. Always friendly and helpful. Such a great stay! Didn't want to leave.

The location is beautiful, nestled right along the coastline with stunning ocean views. One of the standout features is the incredible open-air lobby that flows nicely into the hotels private beach. The service was impeccable, with the staff making sure our stay was comfortable and memorable. From check-in to check-out, everyone was friendly, attentive, and professional. You are however somewhat isolated and will have to drive to reach the nearest town.

Upon walking into the expansive and open lobby there is definitely a wow factor! Stunning views from every corner of this beautiful property set in a gorgeous landscape that looks down on the gorgeous white sand beach and scenic backdrop. The food at all of their restaurants was fantastic! We had dinner at their sister property which was a nice option however we had made the better decision to stay at the Westin. It was the nicest of the two with a recent renovation and the property as a whole was so amazing. We drove around to other beaches and resorts and would choose the Westin in a heartbeat! We would highly recommend this for anyone and are looking forward to returning in the near future.

Valet Parking – On arrival valet parking personnel were great, but they always are.|Front Desk – Check-in was with Michael; I remember him from when it was named the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. He has always been so nice and friendly and our ‘Mahalo’ for his assistance.|The Housekeeping Personnel, they are always the same, Super Great.|Concierge – Amy – Prior to our stay Amy was so kind to make our Thanksgiving Dinner reservation at the Ikena Landing and we definitely appreciated her assistance.|Naupaka Beach Grill – We got to see Bruce and Roydan, they are so super nice. We got to meet Jonathan who was just like Bruce and Roydan, a kind gentleman. We met, I think his name was Jeff, good guy. It was great to see Jerry, unfortunately, by the time Jerry starts working we are off to our room, but Jerry has always been great to us, and we occasionally talk about Fiji, our third favorite place to visit. |Piko Coffee Bar – All personnel who work at this bar are Wonderful, friendly and down to earth people. What was the best, we got to see Mike, haven’t seen him forever, he greeted us with a ‘big hug’.|Naupaka Beach Grill – Food – My husband and I were so disappointed they got rid of the soups. We loved the chowder and Portuguese sausage soup, sooooo good. The sashimi is still the best, love it. The cheese cake is to die for, so fluffy, good job. But what happened to the Fish n Chips, they were watery and why so yellow batter?|Piko Coffee Bar – Food – This has to do with the food sold in the back area of the bar. Great hot dogs. What happened to all good cake, the coconut cake, the carrot cake? Used to have good sandwiches to go, but no more. I know we are picky, but we miss how everything use to be.|My husband and I still give them '5' stars. Next stay will be 7 nights instead of 6, wish it could be 2 weeks, wish we could live there. Fantastic property, and great staff. The breakfast in the open-air restaurant was something I truly looked forward to each morning. We stayed by the adult pool for most of the week, and it was never too crowded. Wait staff was also incredibly attentive. The rooms really aren't "ocean front", but if you get a higher floor (you walk in on floor 6) you'll have a better view. My only complaint, and this was kind of a bummer, is we arrived on the day the Ironman competition was taking place. From the Kona airport, there's really only one main road to get there, and it was closed. The resulting detour would have taken hours as compared to a 25 minute or so drive. We decided to wait it out at the airport. It would have been INCREDIBLY helpful for the hotel to have given a heads up about this. Essentially, that the only road to our property is closed. Yes, this is well known to the locals, but not something I would have thought to look up prior to arrival. Disappointing that this isn't something that was mentioned ahead of time, but not enough that I wouldn't come back to this delightful property.

The beach and pools make for an outdoor paradise. The staff is pleasant, and the grounds are kept clean. The room was a nice size, and the best part was the housekeeping. Housekeeping came daily and always at the exact right time for us. The negative parts of the resort were the $37 daily fee for SELF-parking, and you’re pretty much stuck paying resort restaurant prices because there aren’t other options close by.

We had an amazing time! The resort is clean and everyone is friendly. We bought a Costco vacation package (about $3k, no flights) for four nights, which included the daily breakfast buffet-- my husband loved the made to order omelette station the most. The buffet helped because the food, like everyone has stated in other reviews, is so expensive there. Beach was perfect, no matter what time of day you went, you could always get a spot with the loungers and umbrella. Not crowded at all. The nightly shuttles to the sister property- Mauna Kea, was a huge plus! The restaurants at that resort was much better then the Westin. A unique plus was the Westin (in the market) they lend you a GoPro for $35 for 24 hours! Sadly, you can't extend it longer than that though.. I recommend on the day you go snorkeling!

Overall 3.5/5 stars for our visit. We came during the off season, so the stay was very quiet and there were not very many people on the resort. Rooms: We received an upgrade because of my partner's Marriott status. The room itself was clean and comfortable with a lovely view! Service: This was a mixed bag. Like others have stated, we encountered employees that were pleasant and others that seemed like they didn't want to be there. The front desk employees & concierge were great-- they even sent a bottle of champagne to our room since we were celebrating an anniversary. Our server at Meridia was also great and accommodating. However, the valets & pool staff were another story. On our last day there, my partner and I were taking photos of the view from an open cabana, and an employee rushed over and said "if you don't have a reservation you need to GET OUT." We totally understand & respect that policy, but instead, perhaps she could have politely informed us on how we can make a reservation? I just wish she had responded more appropriately instead of treating us like children when we're paying $900 a night. Location: A bit remote, no restaurants nearby. Waikoloa Village is a ~15 min drive though.

This resort is beautiful, the whole time I was at the resort I was saying to my friend that it looks like a dream. Upon entering the resort you are greeted with a panoramic view of the beach, drink, cold towel, and a lei . The amenities of this resort are awesome! There's a schedule of activities that include cultural activities, yoga, and koi fish feeding. Also, being a Westin hotel I rented out the hyper ice equipment when I got sore after a run. Not to mention, there's a in house laundry facility and included driving range access included in the room. On the beach there's a hut to rent equipment, I never got to use it because the wind. There's snorkeling equipment, paddle boards, and kayaks available. The highlight of my trip would be walking on the beach and enjoying the breath taking views.

Another amazing vacation spent at the Westin Hapuna! This marks our 23rd year of stay in at this property in all its different brands but this was our first time at Christmas and now I am not sure I want to spend the Holidays any other way! The hotel is at capacity but still never felt crowded - they worked with us before we arrived suggesting we made reservations before we got here so we had a cabana booked for Christmas Day and all our restaurants reserved. As a Marriott Titanium member I applied my suite night rewards and was upgraded to an Ocean View which was beautiful! The room is beautiful, spacious and clean with a large bathroom which has a headed toilet seat, large shower and bath! We met the lovely Assistant Manager Florence who was amazing in helping us before we arrived and my mother in law also worked with the hotel so there was. Gift basket when we arrived as we were also celebrating two pivotal birthdays. The hotel has two pools - one adult only - both with beautiful beach views! It sits on the gorgeous Hapuna Beach and we were able to see whales in the distance on one of our days ! It has several great restaurant choices as well as some at the sister property next door to which they offer a shuttle but do note this quite properly that does not have a lot of late night options and it is very remote so not for party animals looking for late night dining and drinks! Jerry at the beach bar has been here for years and trust him to make you a cocktail that is bartenders choice and you won't be disappointed! They have a full gym ( with Peleton bikes) spa and yoga classes! This will continue to be our home away from home for many more years to come while we are on the Big Island and now I can think of no better way to celebrate the Holidays

Totally spoiled. The hubs went full baller and rented one of the new Hapuna Residences. It was a 3 bedroom beautiful condo with an amazing view of the beach/ocean. With that said, I wouldn't stay there again... 1) too expensive and 2) way too modern with no feeling of Hawaii in the decor other than the amazing views. The staff at Hapuna... Fantastic! Friendly... sociable and if they have time will totally talk story with you. The location.... southern neighbor to the Mauna Kea resort.... north of the Mauna Lani by about 15 minutes. I like the location because it's the only property there. I mean ... Mauna Kea... is "next door" but it's a bit of an effort to get there and their property does not interfere at all with Hapuna. Hapuna has a very large beach area. It's one of the nicest on the island. The beach in front of the hotel is a little jaunt down from the hotel. Keep in mind that the hotel is built on a little hill/bluff so... yes... you have to walk DOWN to the beach. There are some stairs. It's not totally unreasonable. My 76 yo mother did it and just took her time. The Hapuna guests have access to lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach. However, this is first come, first serve. I'd suggest getting there by 10am if you want to grab one. Otherwise... wait until after 2pm and then they start to free up again. There are 2 pools... one adult only and the other is a family/kid pool. Both are excellent. The family one is right next to the pool grill restaurant so it's super convenient from that aspect. Also, quite a bit of loungers and seating around the family pool too. The adult pool as you might imagine doesn't have as much loung/seating space as the family one. Eating/Drinking.... we had a lovely time at all the places we tried. The pool grill is really good for a poolside grill. Yes... it has the customary hot dogs and chicken... but their fish sandwich is First Class ONO! Probably the best Fresh Catch sandwich we had all trip. The drinks are killer.... be careful there. lol The Meridia restaurant is superb. It's a definitely a "splurge" kind of dining experience. The setting can be very romantic for 2 people if you get a table for 2 that is in the "front of the patio" that overlooks the property, out towards the ocean at sunset. They have a small grab and go "market" type place near the coffee bar (Piko). Note, Piko turns into a cocktail bar after a certain point in the afternoon. The "market" has some fresh fruits, yogurts, sandwiches, etc.... that you can grab if you want something light and don't want to do a "sit down" dining experience. Worked great for us a few mornings when we just wanted a yogurt and muffin. They also have a water filling station at their "market" so bring your refillable bottles and load up for the day. You really can't go wrong at Hapuna.... the setting is picturesque, and the staff are all about Aloha.

I am currently staying at the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort and thought I would leave a review while I am here and my thoughts are fresh. We are a family of three and are here on the Big Island for a 14 day vacation. This is the last leg of our trip - having stayed at other locations around the island - and was supposed to be the highlight of our trip and what I personally was most looking forward to. We checked in yesterday into what was described as an Ocean View room. The hotel itself is beautiful. The grounds are immaculate, the lobby areas are beautiful and the pools are very nice. The rooms are not as described. There are varying levels of Ocean View... some partial ocean view, some on the ground floor with a lanai, some described as "premier" ocean view. The room we checked into was classified as Ocean View. The room itself was well maintained and what I've come to expect from a Westin room. The view was not "Ocean View"... yes, I would see some of the ocean, but someone thought it a good idea to place the seemingly more important "Residences" building directly in front of the of the hotel rooms... my room not only had an impeccable view of the Residences building, but was "lucky" enough to have a room on direct alignment with the elevator shaft... further limiting the already limited ocean view. Including a photo below. Once connecting back with the front desk and not expecting any options for moving (was already told that my room - all the way down at the end of the building and quite a walk to any amenities - was the only one available), I was offered the option. To change rooms to another Ocean View room... We ultimately ended up in a room that was a bit more centralized yet this "Ocean View" room has less view than the previous due to a giant set of trees directly in the line of sight. I opted to remain there as it was less of a walk to civilization - even though it had a much more limited Ocean View - because I am on vacation, supposed to be relaxing, and don't have time to tour room options around d the resort hoping the room classification lived up to its description. We've only eaten at the poolside grill at this point - delicious food. No concerns there. The walk to the beach can only be described as a maze... constantly looking for the next set of stairs to take me another level down. I've got to imagine much of this is due to the Residences being plopped in prime location and limiting options for hotel access. Just a couple suggestions for management: 1) Reclassify your rooms to appropriately reflect their actual amenities. Totally understandable if you want to block the Ocean Views by placing a seemingly more lucrative and more important residences building directly in the line of sight, just be clear about the fact that Ocean View simply means you can crane your neck in a certain direction and often get a glimpse of the water. I'm reluctant to ask or see what the "Partial Ocean View" room looks like... maybe it has views of the golf course as opposed to the water? 2) make it less complicated to get to the beach We will continue to have a great tome... that's just us... but it would have been better if we knew what we were getting into prior to arrival. As a lifetime Platinum member.. and 15+ years of earned Platinum status, I've become accustom to Marriott accurately describing their properties... the Westin Hapuna Beach has missed that mark by a country mile

Stayed from 06/01/2024 - 06/06/2024. Hotel is roach infested apparently since April 2024 from a TripAdvisor review. It is still roach infested as of June 2024, as our room had roaches coming out of the bathroom mirror. We asked if changing rooms would help but were told it means the entire hotel is infested. We had to have housekeeping come spray twice because the first time didn't do anything to them. They also keep stained bedding in rotation to be reused - even if the sheets are clean, the large stains are visually unappealing and not what I expect from a luxury hotel. Also be warned that if you have to leave early in the morning for your flight - the road past the security gate might be fully blocked by landscaping cars in the early morning and there are no signs of where to go to properly exit. You might see two mini green cones that are far apart enough for a car to drive through at the security gate - but you aren't meant to drive through them. Security gate guard was really upset at us for not automatically knowing that we were "supposed to turn left on golf lane", which is a road we have never taken and had no clue where it was - we have only ever exited and entered through the main entrance that was now entirely blocked. We tried to get clearer directions from him but he was so angry with us that we just backed up as fast as we could and we ended up taking the first left we saw which ended up just looping us back to the security gate, but thankfully by then landscaping had finished and the cones were gone. It was a really shitty way to end our trip and left such a negative impression that I'm here on yelp writing this review. The price you are paying for this hotel is really just for the amazing beach - which is why I gave it 2 stars. If you're spending thousands here, I'd encourage you to consider other hotels or even an airbnb/vrbo instead.

Stunning. Incredible. Understated yet opulent. The height of absolute luxury. Like nothing I have ever experienced. From the moment you walk in, you are like family. The pools are crystalline pristine and never crowded. The waves can be heard from anywhere on the property. If you swim and hold your breath, you can hear the songs of the humpback whales that are visible ALL DAY LONG from the shoreline as they teach their babies the ways of the ocean. It. Is. Magical. Freaking WHALE SONGS BUDDY. You cant make this stuff up. Life changing. This place is will have a piece of my heart forever. These last few days will sustain my soul for the rest of the bitter alaskan winter.

This was one of the most perfect places we have ever stayed. Where do I start? The beach. It's huge, uncrowded with plenty of chairs and towels for everybody, included in your stay. The sand is soft and the water is warm. Generally pretty calm, not a surf break. Beautiful views, and isolated. Just stunning. The pools. A quiet, warm adult infinity pool with plenty of chairs and towels, and a hot tub attached. All of the pools and grounds are terraced with views of the ocean, so you never feel crowded. Constant food and beverage service if you need it. There is also a bigger kids/adults pool near the poolside grill, which is also perfect. The grounds are manicured, interesting and lush with lots of native plants, ducks, lizards and a few cute cats. Sun chairs are scattered about so if you want a semi-private hangout, it's there. The hotel is flawlessly maintained and during the entire stay I never saw anything dirty or out of place. Looks brand new every day. There are small sitting areas, a wood swing, and lots of places to hang out. We were welcomed with fresh juice and leis, and the desk, bell and valet service was perfect, with never a wait for anything. It's an open-air setup so you see the ocean and beach constantly. The style is modern, but with plenty of Hawaiian and koa wood accents. There is no bottled water provided, but there are filtered, chilled water stations everywhere, and metal bottles provided, and this is much, much better than using dozens of plastic bottles. There's a golf course, but we did not play. The room. Thanks to my amazing ambassador, Daniella Perez, we got an upgrade into a fantastic suite and a great welcome gift. Possibly my favorite hotel room ever. Great view of the ocean with a lanai with a table and chairs, and a couch/bed big enough to sleep on (which a member of our party did, enjoying the ocean sounds and breeze). A large living room with a comfortable couch/rollaway, dining table, wet bar with fridge, microwave and coffee. Large bathroom with a separate shower and bath, and 2 sinks. The only complaint I had was the lighting in the bathroom. It's all on a single switch on the outside of the room, so all of the lights are on - which is a lot in the middle of the night! Would prefer a softer option for a night light. The bed was huge and amazingly comfortable. You could open the blind for an ocean view, or black it out for sleep. Marriott's great TVs with streaming access in both rooms. I would have happily lived there forever. The houskeeping was amazing. Our room was perfectly prepared each day and they were so nice and welcoming. We asked for extra stuff and made a mess, and they took care of it all. We enjoyed all of the restaurants. Meridia was mostly great. The pool grill was perfect, and the breakfast was awesome. The platinum breakfast (free with status) was a huge selection of fruit, pastries, juices, granola, oatmeal, etc. We had a vegan who was accommodated with special requests like almond milk, etc. The full buffet had an omelet station, meats, eggs benedict, an asian selection with rice, fish and soup, and lots of fruits and juices. Pastries, toast, bagels, basically anything you would want. Service was excellent at all restaurants. What else can I say? We LOVED this place and will definitely return.

Beautiful resort for all ages! Family-friendly, honeymooners, retirees - all kinds of nooks & crannies to escape to. If you can afford this place, because it is expensive, GO! The good: ~Their "Daily Resort Charge" (DRC)of $37+ is actually worth it. ~ Beach is right there! and DRC includes umbrellas & chairs on the beach (1st come, 1st serve; many guests claim their chairs early and go back to the resort :( One day, the guys who work this area, were kicking back on the lifeguard stand with their ukulele singing some good tunes - it was perfect! ~DRC includes plenty of "cold" water stations to refill your water - we saved so much on not having to purchase water bottles ~DRC includes complimentary laundry service; they even provide the detergent!! ~We had complimentary daily housekeeping service, and complimentary valet (I thought it was part of the DRC, but I don't see it on the list, so not sure) ~Urgent Care on site The bad: ~Restaurant selection is slim, and pricey (Continental breakfast is $30, but really good! Not your standard CB); Meridia is a splurge, but the setting and the food are fabulous; Naupaka (poolside restaurant) - food was average. Otherwise, you can drive to Waikoloa/15 min, Waimea/20 min, or Kawaihae/8 min. One day we picked up some food/drinks at Island Gourmet Market (at Queens Market Place), and took the food down to the beach with some towels and ice cups, and watched the sun set - best seat in the house! ~Not a major complaint, the a/c goes down to 65, but it doesn't feel like 65; can't get a real "cold" room Misc: ~Ginger at Ikena Landing (breakfast place), was such a delight! So fun to start your day off with her infectious positivity and humor. ~Tip: one of best places to watch the sunsets are the south-end balconies outside of the elevators! Loved our stay - hope we can return!

I personally find Westins hit or miss. Many Westins I have stayed at really aren't that impressive. Many are old and poorly maintained/cleaned given their price point and stature. This is an impressive resort and a good family destination. There's more for kids to do than at the nearby Mauna Kea Beach Resort. Couples however may prefer the gravitas of the later. Often the prices of these properties is roughly the same in which case the Autograph Collection property might be strongly considered a better value with its classic elegance, higher trained staff and larger guest rooms. If you can get this hotel for a reasonable rate it's worth a look but with prices frequently in the $850 and up range I'd probably pass.

Excellent hotel for kids. Shuttle service reliability leaves room for improvement, especially considering its location. Confirmed w bell desk that it would leave at 4:30 (for an event where we were supposed to arrive at the Mauna Kea between 4:45 & 5) only to learn from the driver they were going to wait until 5 to leave. Had to get off and find our own way. Pretty frustrating. Otherwise, everything was awesome.

The bed. Omg the bed. So super comfy with high quality bedding! The room was very clean, the grounds were very clean, and we loved having a bidet (with a seat heater!). The resort buildings don't look like much on the outside, but the room was very nice. Was it worth $750/night in early March? Hmmm... I guess it's the going rate for a nice resort with a private, beautiful beach, and that's more of what you're paying for. The room itself was probably worth about $300/night, but again, this is a resort. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the staff were friendly, and we looooved the water bottle filling stations! Every hotel should have those! we had a pretty good dinner but we didn't splurge for the $38 breakfast buffet. If I come back to Kona, I'm choosing this resort, but I'll have to save up for quite a while first.

I was appalled at the lack of maintenance at this resort. For $800 a night I would expect to have comfortable beds and pillows. I mean this is a "Marriott ". The pool is under construction but nobody told us about it before our arrival The pool area was in disrepair with torn or peeling paint on the patio furniture. Then they charged $45 a day to park the car. There were no other options but valet. The pool restaurant was another disappointment. The prices were just outrageous for what we received. And if it was actually cooked to your specifications and arrive, hot or not. It was just a huge Disappointment over all. The one positive thing I have to say it was the main lobby as you enter was very beautiful and decorated for Christmas. I wish I had more nice things to say I am. I'm so mad at myself for reserving at Hapuna beach Marriott.

This was a beautiful resort. Shout-out to Ginger who connected with our family and made us feel ohana. The beach was very secluded so the crowding was minimal. All in all we had a good time here and thank you for your care.

When we first arrived, we were blown away by the view and layout of the resort. Absolutely gorgeous. Our room was great and we really liked the amenities - we especially loved that it had a bidet with heated seats and multiple settings! The access to Hapuna Beach is also a huge highlight. There are chairs and umbrellas right on the beach that you can use. The pools are very nice, and I'm glad there was an option for an adults only pool area. Charging food and drinks to the room was quick and easy during our stay (but watch out, it could also cause you to spend way more than you planned very fast!) Minus one star because I had booked a room with a 'partial ocean view' and ended up with no ocean view at all, all we could see was the building in front of ours, blocking the ocean; The TV "has Netflix" but it didn't work at all; a very loud false alarm woke us up when it went off in the middle of the night, just once or twice, followed by a message saying nothing was wrong; the food at Naupaka is way overpriced for being fairly bland/just okay and on the smaller side for portions than restaurants we had just been to in Kona. Some things to keep in mind: -Accessibility. Getting to and from your room to the restaurants, pools, and to the beach requires lots of walking and a LOT of stairs. It was a long walk between our room and the self parking garage, as well. I definitely got my steps in, but unfortunately my partner injured his leg while swimming in the ocean on our second day and really struggled with getting around the resort for the rest of our stay. -Meridia is closed Tuesdays & Wednesdays. We checked in Monday and checked out Thursday so we sadly didn't get to eat there, so keep that in mind when you're selecting when to stay! Tips for your stay: -If you check in before 5pm, immediately go to the welcome desk to claim your welcome gift - a discount card that will save you 15% at restaurants on the property, a discount at the gift shop, and, deals at a few other restaurants in driving distance. I didn't know about this until they left me a voicemail the next morning, and had already paid full price at Naupaka the night before for an overpriced dinner. -There are no ice machines? Walk your ice bucket to the bar on the 7th floor (yep, more walking!). Don't wander around aimlessly like I did, they'll fill it up for you at the bar. -Piko Coffee + Bar (in the bar area on the 7th floor I just mentioned) is your best value for lunch, but get there early. There were way more sandwiches and wraps to choose from when I went at 11:45 than when I went after 1pm. The spam musubi is good, and served hot! I liked being able to grab and go here, taking food to eat on the beach or on our lanai, and it saved us money (especially knowing that in the resort area, you're gonna have to spend a lot on dinners). -The Ikena breakfast buffet is expensive. We wanted to experience having breakfast there at least once, but we don't usually eat breakfast. We used the discount card and ordered food a la carte, and it cost much less than both of us getting the buffet access. But it might be worth it if you like starting your day with a huge meal! -Use the dinner shuttle that goes to Mauna Kea Beach Hotel! We had an incredible dinner at Manta (be sure to book reservations well in advance), and it was so easy to get there and back using the shuttle, which operates every 30 minutes after 5pm. -Get to the beach early if you want a chair and umbrella. By 10:30 they may be all taken. Overall, I would stay here again and would recommend it to others! You can't beat the location and access to Hapuna Beach, which was our favorite beach on Big Island.

The hotel itself is beautiful. The beach access and seating is not crowded, at least during our stay. The options for different restaurants is ideal. The usual aloha spirit and welcoming of staff is something that was definitely missing during this stay. I was disappointed with this. We checked in early and were barely welcomed. I would go back for the amenities but not the lack of staff friendliness.

Beautiful location, yet soulless resort. If you are rich, lazy, and unintelligent, then you should love this place. Mediocre food and beverage choices are expensive and not worth it. Perfect for the corporate types who can't think for themselves. I hope you enjoy the unsolicited information about their time shares being left in your room more than once. Fortunately, we found numerous other places to be, and came back only to sleep and shower.

We had an excellent stay at this resort. We got upgraded to a king ocean view room close to the main part of the expansive property. We were there for three nights total. The bed was so comfortable and there were lots of thoughtful touches like a hot water kettle, robes, slippers, water bottles with filling stations, and possibly my favorite--heated toilet seat with bidet! For ice, you call the front desk and someone brings it to your room. We opted for valet versus self park and it never took too long for our car to be retrieved. There's no alcohol service at the beach but there is at the pool... and we appreciated having an adults-only pool with hot tub. There are also so many different places to sit and hang out throughout the property. Loved the open air layout with the small private nooks. Also, the concierge made great recommendations for touring a Kona coffee farm especially on a Sunday when some were closed. The only bummer was that the spa was completely booked by the time I tried to make a massage reservation. You have to go to the spa area, pick up a phone, and call to ask for appointments which was kind of weird. So if you definitely want to go to the spa during your stay you may want to book ahead. Also recommend doing that for the restaurants both on-site as well as at their sister property the Mauna Kea. We were able to get a same-day reservation at Copper at the Mauna Kea but not at the Meredia. Definitely recommend taking the free shuttle over to the other property where you can still charge to your room at the Hapuna. We don't stay at luxury hotels like this on the regular but would have appreciated having at least free coffee or some kind of complimentary food. The restaurants are expensive and we didn't find the need to do the breakfast buffet. There's a fridge in the room and it's easy enough to pick up and store fruit and other food items and eat on the large balcony in the room. Also loved that the balcony had both a loungey couch/bed as well as a proper table to sit. The free wifi didn't work properly so we were able to get the password for the secured wifi without having to pay anything additional. Friendly and helpful staff throughout. Housekeeping service daily although it comes at different times which can make it hard to plan your day and room stops in between to change or use the restroom. The checkout time is noon and they allow you to use lockers and restroom/shower facilities if you want to continue to enjoy the property after the checkout time.

Was back again this year in October for 5 nights and I was so happy! Less restrictions and those nice services you get when you check-in getting serve with local fruit juice and cold towel instantly put a smile on my face! The view of my room was gorgeous! I could see the stretch of Hapuna Beach and in the distance, and the beautiful Mauna Loa! Still no Filipino adobo in their morning breakfast buffet! It's a big ask! :))

My wife and I were here on the big island from Monday July 24 to Monday July 31. The staff has treated us very well, which was my favorite part of our stay - even more than the view of the ocean. The room itself had some discrepancies we didn't say because it wasn't a big deal, but did advise the front desk staff upon checkout. First, the toilet had a tendency to run unless I jiggle the handle, (2) there was no way to just have the light next to the bed on without also having the lights by the front door on too, and (3) upon turning the television on, the volume defaulted at the loudest setting. The dining choices are limited! Because of that, we had to drive to the nearest two shopping areas south of the resort for some of our dinners. Because we had a vehicle, we found it was easier to park it and retrieve it ourselves versus waiting on the valets. The adult pool was dirty so after the beach, we hung out at the family pool. To end on a positive note, we would still consider staying here again the next time we're on the big island.

Spacious hotel with stunning ocean views. When you walk into the lobby, you will be amazed at the beauty of Hawaii island. Wonderful hotel to relax at because of its sprawling property. For Marriott elite members, this is a property where you receive your benefits such as continental breakfast, night credits, and points.

We a absolutely loved our stay here. The property is fantastic with a wonderful open atrium. The views are out of this world and the bar is such a cost place to wind down in. They offer numerous amenities and the pool is such a nice place to be. The property is next to one of the best beaches on the island and they have plenty of umbrellas /chairs. We will totally be staying here again!

Don't do it. Pros: Great view from room. I reserved a deluxe high floor full ocean view room. The room was described as having two televisions and upgraded amenities . To me, that sounded like a suite. On arrival, a small, tired room.. One tv which did work. But, a balcony with a great ocean view. Cons: This hotel is advertised as a "resort." I have never seen a resort with no restaurants. Breakfast :Only one breakfast available. It is an expensive buffet. Worse than limited hotels that offer free breakfasts. At least, the low cost hotels have make your own fresh waffles. Here? Heated frozen waffles. Lunch: Only lunch available was the pool side cafe. No hotel coffee shop. Dinner: Same pool side cafe and a high priced dinner house. Can't comment on that, didn't eat there. No resort available dining options l. A great ocean view from the room. Outdoor amenities? There is a " private" beach, however, most of it is reserved for owners of the time share residences at the hotel. Unfortunately, rough waves prevented us from enjoying the beach. So, we tried the "resort" swimming pools. There are only two pools at this "resort." One is a kids pool and one is an adult pool. We first tried the kids pool area. To be fair, when I booked the room I was advised there would be construction there. The Jack hammers were unbearably loud. We sought refuge the level above in the adult pool, although there were about 70 people escaping the noise,there were only about 20 chairs. As I waited for someone to vacate their chair,, I watched the kids pool area below and saw about 10 people and about 30 empty chairs. I also saw that the empty beach area had over 100 chairs empty. The question was why empty chairs were not brought to the adult pool. The answer, there were no staff at the pool . I kept wondering whether I should have spent my $8000 o a cruise with lots of chairs. So, the Westin Hapuna is far from a resort. It is an overpriced old, tired limited service hotel with no dining options, poor amenities, limited staff, and mediocre atmosphere. However, the view from the room was great.

Pretty good hotel! Amazing open atrium - you can seat at any level and watch sunset (or sunrise). Nice pools (although pretty strong smell of chlorine), good towel service, nice cafes. Would love to come back here. Just have couple things we didn't like: 1. There is no way to turn off lamps... by their turn on/off button. They are combines with overall turn on button... which is just near by room entrance. So once you are ready to sleep - you have to stand up, go to room entrance, turn off the light and go back in complete dark. 2. Parking is not that close to the rooms. You have to go to 8th floor, go to separate elevator for the parking and use that one. We were pretty close to the nearest elevator and on the same side as parking, but going from the furthest wing could easily take 10-15 minutes one way. 3. Party. No. Parties. They happen almost every day - weddings, etc. Usually they didn't distract us. But party during our last night was partying till 10pm and I bet everyone in this huge hotel were able to hear them. We were 2 floors below, but it felt like they are partying just next door. When you want to sleep at 9pm, you either have to wait till 10pm; or tire so much that you don't care about loud sounds.

Year 2 at the Hapuna after many years at the Mauna Lani. The Hapuna is great. Building is vertical and offers many shaded places to sit and enjoying beverages. Access to the Mauna Kea beach is a home run. We had an extended stay and needed to use the washing machines. It was a 5 star experience....odd to say that about laundry. Major shout out to Duggen at the front desk. He was knowledgeable and friendly. He helped us ship a bag home. He is a total rock star!!!

Lovely as always, maybe our 4th visit from Oahu, staycation. I actually know what's on each floor and can now navigate the elevator system! Fabulous staff. The adult pool suffers from "saved chair syndrome" people dropping things on a chair at 7 am only to return to Use the chair some 4 hours later. Nice gym, depending on your parking and room placement may have you walking more than enjoyed.

During my trip to Kona, I was very fortunate to be able to call the Westin at Hapuna Beach my home away from home for the few days I stayed on the Big Island. This resort was stunning and a beachfront property, not too far from the Kona Airport (a little over 30 minutes by car). The property is beautifully maintained and well cared for. When you enter to check in, it's like being enveloped in paradise and the staff is so welcoming, kind and professional which is exactly what you need after making it all the way out here. I was welcomed with a refreshing drinks and moist towels to freshen up and gifted with a fresh lei (my first one ever!) and was able to quickly get checked in, park my car and get settled into my room. This resort has so many facilities, pools, a hot tub, beach access, multiple restaurants on site, laundry facilities, etc you name it they either have it or can probably help you arrange to get it. Their rooms are spacious, clean, well maintained and cozy so you can always be rest assured that you will get a solid night of rest before long days of adventuring or lounging by the pool or beach. I was able to enjoy breakfasts each morning (fabulous continental or buffet spread!), the pool and hot tub in the adults only section, there's another pool by the pool side bar for families to enjoy and beach access where you can rent equipment, and so much more. This resort really has all the details taken care of during your stay so you can either enjoy your day trips around the Big Island or just take advantage of all the resort amenities and never leave. This was a solid spot and helped position me to visit all the National and historical sites, beaches and more around Kona. I only wish I had more time! Already looking forward to my next trip back to the Big Island, this place and staff fully embrace the "aloha" mentality which was made this stay so special and welcoming from the first to the last moment.

Last week Friday, we had the most incredible dining experience at Hapuna Prince at a restaurant called Meridian. The Mediterranean Cusine - Hawaiian Style is true to what they cook and believe. We arrived at 6pm for our dinner reservation, got greeted and escorted immediately to our table in an outdoor massive veranda, with a gorgeous panoramic view overlooking Hapuna beach and witnessing a killer sunset. The ambience of the place was quite beautiful, peaceful, and romantically alluring which we found very relaxing and calm. Our well-service waitress was amazing, very professional, friendly, pleasant and knowledgeable.She was able to give us a little history of the place as well as insights of what they grow organically in their backyard veggie garden, then bring it to the table when harvest. Essentially, this is an integral part of the preparation process before the Chef's began to put his culinary cooking skills to the test. Everything has to be fresh!..and presentation is key. The food was exquisitely amazing and incredibly delicious. The texture, color, flavor, the aroma and creativity was on point. We were captivated with the presentation and the taste was unreal!, loved it!.... excellent top notch! Another part of our incredible dining experience was when Chef Jr surprisingly greeted us at our table and just shared his fond memories of his growing up, family values, humble beginnings, and his passion in what he does, all in which he valued and lived by till this day. He truly is an enthusiastic, humble, genuine nice guy that inspired by his love, commitment, passion, and being intentional to create a memorable experience for all his clients, we seen him visit each table that eventing. He has so much aloha and passion in his work that it shows in his creative culinary skills and talents. Mentorship and supporting others in the culinary field to reach their potential is one of his areas of strength. We highly recommend anyone to check out the Mediterranean Cusine - Hawaiian Style at the Hapuna prince dining, this is a perfect place for your next dining experience, You too will agree once you taste it and experience it for yourself and the price is great. Big mahalo to Chef Junior and the staff for an unforgettable evening. We enjoyed it so much!.Truly was amazing and we will return for sure.

We had a very bad experience...there is no "Aloha" at this resort...staff was rude, management didn't seem to care; and they seemed to track purchases, and if we didn't spend enough, we were told we were not Welcome. Avoid this resort!

For the amount of $$$$$ they charge and won't let us check in a little early (premier members) very unimpressed.

Incredible hotel for our family trip! The location and hotel grounds are stunning and perfect for a family visiting the big island. Our room: ocean view with two queens and a very large balcony to enjoy happy hour on. The bathroom was also very large with a full bath, separate shower and two large sinks. We never felt cramped. The service: The whole world is understaffed so be kind to the ones that showed up! Everyone was so lovely during our stay and I feel for the property staff since every business is still readjusting to post-COVID staffing. We had to wait a few times for service but who cares, we're on vacation! Food: Grab and go, little market and two restaurants were great. Sadly we couldn't get a reservation at the big one so be sure to book everything well in advance (cabana, spa, dinning) Gym: I wish this gym was at every hotel! Brand new and super clean with an incredible view of the ocean. Beach: I was told the best on the island. This is our first trip to the big island but I have to say, it's pretty magical!

With two pools and a good beach, Westin Hapuna is a winner. Our state of Hawaii approval to travel and our Covid test results were required at check-in, as we're our photo IDs (for both of us, not just the person with the credit card. Our room's amenities included sueded robes, a good magnifying mirror, a bidet, and a balcony with ocean view. Bars and a grab and go food station are open. I got a plate of cheese and grapes for about $8--this cost less than I thought it would. Lava flows were $16, which seemed about right. They were good, but my Hawaii-experienced companion has had better. My only beef with the Westin is how long it takes to get to point A to point C via two sets of elevators that aren't near one another. We figured out a slight shortcut during stairs. Perhaps if we stayed a few more days we would really figure it out. Recommended.

Kenji from FD was SPECTACULAR, regardless of our late night arrival we got the full welcome experience. He was extremely helpful, very informative and is a key element in what makes our stay so memorable. We were hungry from a long day of travels and everything at the hotel was closed , Kenji went above and beyond to find us food and make sure we were satisfied 11/10!

If you enjoy hanging by swinging pools bring your wetsuit the pools are not heated and if if they normally are I find it hard to believe that the kid and adult pool broke at the same time and should not take 4 days to repair

Entirely renovated in 2018 and situated on the most pristine stretch of sand on the Big Island, this beautiful beachfront resort has two major flaws: 1) the private condos blocking some room views in the North Tower, and 2) the incessant construction noise - ranging from low level buzzing to flat out jackhammering - coming from said condos. The latter problem at least will end eventually, albeit not soon enough for someone staying at the hotel currently. Fortunately, the front desk was kind enough to move my family from our originally assigned room (with the issues listed above) to a 1,209 square foot Lanai Suite with 2 bathrooms and a kitchenette in the South Tower, which is on the opposite, unobstructed, and much quieter side of the resort. The suite was a very nice customer service gesture, but frankly the front desk shouldn't be putting anyone in the North Tower until construction is done, period.

After staying at the Hilton and then Moving to the Westin it was like night and day. The Westin is beautiful, well-maintained, friendly staff, food actually available on site and most importantly provides housekeeping services. The Hilton we had just moved out of to move to the Westin does not even empty trash except every four days and they do not want to change your linens or towels at all. If you call for towels they bring you one. Hilton is an actual huge dump where they just tell people to move their trash out into the hall and never pick it up. Our room was a mile and a half from the entrance and the tram ran sporadically if at all. You have to go out to a grocery store to buy food because there is nearly nothing available on this massive site. Moving down to the Westin was like night and day. It was an actual full service high end resort. Would gladly go back anytime beautiful beach and pool.

Not a luxury hotel, it could be and it has the potential to be, but the lack of management and staff makes this a 4 star hotel and that's being generous. Pros: Location. Location !best beach. Water dispensers through out the hotel, although it would be great to have some next to the adult pool. Cons: Price. Lack of staff. Only 7 umbrellas in the adult area. Pricey food. No towels in the adult area until 9:00 am. Pool full of sand. Did I mention the lack of staff. $30 Self parking. $30 valet parking.

Stayed here for our honeymoon and had a great time. The resort was STUNNING! Hands down the nicest property I've ever stayed at and a very romantic setting. The food options weren't fantastic at least from the pool bar. The beach was also the nicest one we went to on the island. Only complaint was that the hotel was a bit far from other things to do on the island so we drove a bit more than I would have wanted. That being said 100% recommend this to other honeymooners :)

We've stayed at the Westin Hapuna before, but it might have been the Hapuna Price then... it was LEGE... wait for it... wait for it.... LEGENDARY! They really nailed it this time; and that's not the only thing that got nailed this weekend. Our best stay in Hawaii yet, coming from a local family no less. At checking there were a few people waiting, staff appeared out of thin air and helped everyone almost instantly. Yet, still handed out leis and cold compresses with a drink whilst checking us in. Answered all our questions and we were golden. Room was nice and cool, clean; loved the bathroom and view of the ocean from the lanai with table and loveseat thingy; wish the TV would have swiveled but we didn't spend more then an hour watching it anyhow... Loved both pools, the shade of the trees, a nice pina colada from the pool staff, awesome sunset, got a nice moonlight walk on the beach with some hot tub enjoyment too. The bed was soft as a cloud, linens too, pillow was ok but not my style. Noise from the ocean over night were dreamy. Morning breakfast was great for how simple it was, had all the options one could want. Charlie made a great omelette, Ginger and Flo were sweet even though slammed, and Shirley had our back with any needs we had. Then we hit the pool and sun again before the crazy late checkout time. Lot's of great little things here and there that really made the stay next level. We usually do the Hilton for the kids but the Weston Hapuna resort delivered the mommy and daddy get away weekend we needed. I swear the sand is softer in front of the hotel, my wife says I'm crazy.

The main reason to stay here is for the Hapuna beach. It's cleanest and best beach I've ever been to. The spring break time is busy, but late sept it's super low key. Sunsets are breathtaking. The hotel itself is really just 4 stars. It's beautiful, but there were minor issues throughout the stay. Keep the aloha attitude and you'll have the best experience. The gym is really nice, restaurants are what you would expect. I recommend getting stuff at Costco after you land to avoid having to rely on the hotel completely to eat.

A hit! If you imagine a luxury Big Island resort, and it would look just like this. If you are not blown away by the humongous, open air, moon crater of a lobby, you must turn in your Yelp badge and join TripAdvisor or something. Next to Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, this mammoth property is right on the beach with multiple pools, a poolside cafe and the best AYCE breakfast in town. Join the SPG/Marriott "Bonvoy" free loyalty club! Thanks to my platinum status, breakfast was included with the room, as was my upgrade to a suite (bedroom, living room with pull-out sofa, dining area with kitchen, two full bathrooms), as was my parking. Uber will not help you here -- the Big Island is too big and too spread out -- you must rent a car. This hotel was a highlight of my trip to the Big Island -- enjoy!

For the price you pay to stay here you would think they could accommodate the food and beverage needs of all the guest. The buffet is only open for breakfast with a line that wraps around the floor. Room service is over a hour wait for mediocre food at best, and the grab & go options are trash. Without a rental car you are basically stuck at the resort with the one dining option open for each meal. Hungry before 10:30am? One option for every guest. Hungry after 6pm? One option for every guest. Hungry late night? Sorry you all have to starve. The convenient store they have in the lobby doesn't open until 9am and closes at 6pm. You literally have one option for dining at each meal or room service. Honestly disappointed with this place for the price you pay. Update: this hotel has only gotten worse. Was told they would shuttle us to the sister hotel for the Lu Au at 5pm for the 5:10pm start. We arrive at 4:45pm only to be told the shuttle had already left. Proceeded to wait 30 minutes (it's a 40 min walk) for them to come back and arrived late to the show. 10/10 would not recommend this place for anything.

We decided to splurge on the last two nights of our two week trip to Big Island (though we saved a bundle booking with miles). What a way to end the trip of a lifetime. Sure, the design feels a touch dated. And the ocean view lanai doesn't give you a direct view of the ocean. But brunch in the open air atrium (and the service!) is fantastic. And that beach. Like Waikiki without the strip or the traffic. Postcard perfect sand between your toes and a warm, clear ocean that lets you walk out for yards and yards. It's just perfect. There's also coral to the right side of the beach, that with a little snorkeling opens up to schools of fish and even a turtle or two. The meals here are expensive, but if you're on a budget, the grab-and-go shop has some decent snacks. The poolside restaurant is also decent and great for kids. But that beach, man. That's what I'll be back for.

Stayed in July 2022. Everything is beautiful there. We love every stay. There is one thing that the hotel can do better. Lanai floor was very sticky and dirty. Please thoroughly clean and mop it.

We dined last night at Merida. Our meal was beyond DISAPPOINTING!! We ate here pre Covid and that meal was memorable top to bottom. Although we live here on island this was our first time back. We enjoyed our last meal so much so we decided to return for our anniversary last night. The positive last night the amazing view!! Our starters of yummy stuffed peppers and Waimea salad delicious. My entree was the Mahi special that was the driest piece of fish I've ever eaten. Ever!! No amount of sauce would have rehydrated that fish. The chef did make a lilikoi sauce that was very good and I appreciated that. My husband's scallops were sandy. Nothing like a little crunch. Our server had the skill set of a fast food restaurant. She never checked back on us to see how our meal was. The restaurant brought us a coconut cake that was good for our anniversary and we appreciated the gesture. I always take my entree leftovers home for a delicious lunch the next day. Not this time. Straight into the trash or maybe a pig farmers slop bucket which unfortunately where it belonged. When my husband told her how unhappy we were she offered a Marriott discount. It's isn't about the money more the unfavorable meal we were served and the fact that no one cared. Unexceptionable.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel over the Christmas holiday. The property is fabulous, the beach is excellent, and every single hotel staff member was friendly, hard working, and eager to please. I was especially impressed that many hotel staff members remembered guests by name and their room numbers. The level of hospitality was top notch. I would also add that the housekeeping staff took the time to truly clean rooms; it was not just some light refreshing every day! The beach staff were wonderful with helping my disabled father in the beach wheelchair. We very much appreciated the gym--it's rare (and appreciated) when a hotel gym has a proper barbell and rack. There were a few negatives. The hotel was clearly understaffed, so you often had to wait for things. You would see the staff busting their butts, so it was clear that the issue was just too few staff members. The food and beverage places often had no availability for a table, so we ended up having to eat from their pretty mediocre grab and go or room service...which also wasn't great. A hotel with only 280ish rooms should be able to handle the F&B needs of its guests at this price point. They also could have used the breakfast restaurant (which is only open for breakfast) to serve a buffet for lunch and dinner to help with overflow/lack of dining space; this was done once during our stay. The internet was excruciatingly slow in some areas of the hotel despite the signal being good. Finally, I found it frankly annoying that you had to pay to rent snorkel gear. What on earth am I paying a resort fee for when I have to pay for basic stuff like that? Despite these negatives, I recommend the property and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

I really liked the hapuna beach resort until I saw a rat, there was a blackout, no microwave in room, and they nickel and dime you for every little thing ($5 for extra free bread at dinner). I also witnessed them kicking locals out of the pool, it was heartbreaking since nobody was in the pool at the time. This resort is the prime example of how capitalism and colonialism ruins paradise. The natives and locals are the best, so kind and giving of their culture and food to visitors. There is so much pride on the island, so much history, and there are many areas that remain remote and rural. That really is the beauty of the island compared to the other islands that feel like mainland cities. I hope to return to the big island and stay at a different resort or amongst the local people. The resorts are not here to give you the best experience but to provide that layer of unnecessary protection and reassurance that you will be able to get American mainland food. I'm really here for the experience and not to eat a cheeseburger in Hawaii. While the resort is nice, there is so much more character and greatness this island has to offer. Mahalo!
