Best International Hotels for Food 2023

"Located on a prime strip of white sand beach in Cancún, the all-villa Westin Lagunamar is designed to make guests comfortable for extended stays. Each villa has a full kitchen or kitchenette, though most guests prefer to dine at the resort’s restaurants and kick back with a tropical cocktail at the swim-up bar. The signature restaurant Oceano serves Mexican specialties and international classics, while the poolside Viento Bar & Grill offers ceviche, fish tacos, and other light fare." - Laura Itzkowitz

One of a kind resort located in hotel zone of Cancun. From its wonderful location on the street with close proximity to the major mall "La Isla" and the R1 n R2 bus stop right on its gate makes it worthwhile for a stay. |The mall located right across the street has all major brands, Mc Donald's, boutique restaurants with sea view, great souvenir shopping, aquarium, ferris wheel and list goes on and on.||The lovely resort has gigantic pools with an infinity pool and loungers right on the white sand beach. It offers delicious breakfast buffet and has two other restaurants for lunch and dinner. ||The rooms are quite nice and daily housekeeping is done. The staff and service is amazing for the price you pay for stay there.||Extremely happy with my stay at this resort!

A close friend who had recently stayed at the Westin Lagunamar highly recommended it to us, and we’re so glad we took their advice! Their experience was so memorable that they’ve already booked a return trip for the end of the year. That kind of loyalty speaks volumes about the quality of the stay and the lasting impression this resort leaves on its guests||Our recent stay at this resort was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the convenience and comfort offered throughout the property. The suite was a dream with a fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, and even a communal grilling area that made family meals easy and enjoyable.||Housekeeping was top-notch, keeping everything spotless and well-stocked. The front desk staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful, especially Bogar, who went above and beyond to switch us to an oceanfront room. Not only did he make the change happen smoothly, but he also personally helped us move all our belongings, truly outstanding service! ||The fitness center was another highlight. Run by Jorge and Alberto, it was impeccably clean and well-organized. Special shoutout to Alberto, who was constantly wiping down equipment and keeping everything in perfect order. I’ve never seen a cleaner gym! The washroom facilities were equally pristine, and I loved using the steam room. The showers and personal lockers were a lifesaver, especially with our late checkout, and there were always fresh towels available thanks to the attentive cleaning staff.||The benefit of proximity to everything was everywhere! Right across from the gym was a mini market and Starbucks, perfect for quick snacks and coffee. The location couldn’t be better, with a plaza across the street that offered a wide variety of restaurants and food options, and there were two grocery stores within 10 minutes, making it easy to stock up on essentials. One of the best parts of our stay was the convenience of having the ferry just 10 minutes away which made planning our day trip to Isla Mujeres effortless, and we absolutely loved our visit to the island. From the stunning beaches to the vibrant local culture, Isla Mujeres was a highlight of our vacation. Being able to hop on the ferry so easily added an extra layer of adventure to our trip without any stress or long travel times.||I should also mention the advantage of having Uber available to us, rather than having to use the local taxis throughout our stay. It made getting around incredibly safe and easy and gave us peace of mind; especially since we don't speak Spanish. We even saw guests using Uber Eats at the hotel late into the night when the restaurants on site and nearby were closed. Having that reliable option really added to the overall comfort of our trip.||The beaches were beautifully maintained, and our family had a blast enjoying the waterslide by the pool, relaxing in the hot tub, and lounging on the plentiful chairs. We even got to see baby turtles hatching on the beach as special care is taken to not disrupt the surrounding nature and wildlife. We did encounter a few days where the sargassum was quite persistent, but of course, that’s something beyond the hotel’s control. The tractors regularly clear what they could from the shore, but in the end, it’s just one of those natural occurrences you have to roll with and we chose to make the most of it and enjoy everything else the resort had to offer.||Dining was a treat with three restaurants on-site, giving us plenty of delicious options without ever needing to leave the resort. The hotel hosted several themed nights although we didn’t get the chance to attend any ourselves, as we opted to explore the local area and dine off-property in the evenings. These themed nights included Beach Night, Mayan Night, and Taco Tuesday, which looked incredibly well-organized and fun based on what we saw and heard from other guests. ||We would return without hesitation and in fact, we were a little sad our flight didn’t get cancelled due to the Air Canada disruptions (LOL). This place truly felt like a home away from home, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit!

I loved the Westin Lagunamar so much last year that we came back again this year! The staff is wonderful—always professional and welcoming. Our “ocean view” room this time was more at the horizon, but honestly almost every room here offers a beautiful view of both the pool and the beach. The rooms are spotless, the poolside lunch is delicious, and the gym is well-equipped. Such a fantastic place to stay!

I recently had the opportunity to stay at Westin , and while there were several aspects of the experience that were commendable, there were also some areas that left room for improvement. Firstly, the views at this resort are nothing short of breathtaking. The picturesque landscape and stunning vistas create a serene atmosphere that enhances the overall experience. It’s the kind of setting that invites you to relax and soak in the natural beauty surrounding you. The rooms are another highlight of the stay. They are not only very nice but also remarkably spacious, providing ample room to unwind and enjoy your time. The modern amenities and tasteful decor contribute to a comfortable environment that is ideal for both relaxation and leisure. However, it is important to note that the pricing felt somewhat disproportionate to the overall experience. While I understand that premium pricing often accompanies high-quality offerings, the level of service we received did not meet our expectations. We found the service to be lacking in attentiveness and responsiveness, which was disappointing considering the additional fees for various amenities and services. In summary, Westin boasts stunning views and spacious, well-appointed rooms that make for a pleasant getaway. However, the service could use significant improvement, especially in relation to the premium price point. If you're seeking a relaxing retreat with beautiful scenery, it may still be worth considering, but be prepared for potential shortcomings in service.

Recently went to this resort for 7 days as MVC owners. It was a great experience. The resort is huge. There is a lot of help from the concierge if you need restaurant or excursion recommendations. The pools are very nice. There is one main restaurant for breakfast and dinner that has theme nights. We also did a dinner owner's event, which had amazing food and hosted by the hilarious JC. The staff at the resort are nice and if there are any issues with your room, they send someone right away. The gym can get crowded in the morning, but the equipment is new and clean, well maintained. |Overall, we liked the resort so much that we upgraded our ownership and made Westin our home resort.

We stayed at this hotel a couple of times until we learned that it was a great rip off! You pay a going rate or more and nothing is included, and the restaurants are not very good and expensive and there’s no maid service. There’s a washer and dryer so you do your own laundry and no one cleans the room or makes the bed or anything! There are many other hotels in Cancun, which are much nicer and a much better deal!

This was a fantastic honeymoon for us a few years ago. The room was beautiful. The views were immaculate. It was in a great location. We had access to the entire Zona hotelera. This really was a highlight…. But all these years since I do remember that the front desk was giving me a hard time about bugs that were found in my room.

We stayed for one night on our way to Europe. The check-in was very long. We booked through booking.com and we paid in advance, when checking in , they told us that there were additional fees or taxes according to them so we had to pay more for the rooms, this is very inconvenient and misleading. The beach is nice and they have a big pool. Breakfast was nothing exciting and of course was not included. The hotel is well located. Rooms were clean and they feature a washer and dryer which is very convenient. No drinking water is available in the room, but you have a kitchen with a full refrigerator. Don’t get rooms in front of the grills because you will smell smoke all day long.

Yelp
Visited the resort in Feb 2025 for the first time and was quite pleased with the accommodations and especially the beach and pools. The beach and water was clean and a perfect shade of blue. It was warm so I could pretty much wade right in. The pools are enormous. Plenty of chairs around the beach and pool and everything was in good condition. It's part of the Marriott Vacation club program, so your MVC points will work here. The onsite restaurants were decent, if unremarkable. They have a nice market to get your food basics from. The staff were very friendly and pleasant to work with. My one bedroom villa was spacious and had all the features I expect from a Marriott timeshare property, including a washer and dryer in the unit. The spa was excellent. Definitely recommended and I look forward to returning.

Yelp
This was our first time staying at this hotel in Cancún. We loved our stay here It's a beautiful resort with an amazing beach. The. Beach here has beautiful white soft sand and gorgeous clear turquoise water! Across the street is outdoor shopping area with nice shops and restaurants. It's easily walkable to a grocery store and various shops and restaurants on the street. There are nice pools and restaurants on property and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
First time at this resort with son, DIL, and three grandchildren. Check-in was easy and grateful for the concierge emailing prior to our check-in to see if we had any needs, which we did. Concierge shared a transportation service that we booked for round trip travel from airport to resort. $110 and we were all set. (2) One-bedroom villas and I asked for same building same floor if possible. We were in the same building but separate floors which was no problem. Building #14 with an ocean view and close to spa and pool the children enjoyed most often as well as beach access. The beach was beautiful with plenty of chairs and umbrellas. Life guards on duty. Our rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable. Enjoyed having the full kitchen and large dining room table to use for both meals and art projects. Separate toilet and shower area was very nice. White robes provided for after shower. Towels were white and appropriately soft. The only problem was there were not enough of them so I did have to call At Your Service twice during our week stay for extra towels. Walking distance to shopping and great restaurants!

Yelp
One of the best properties they have. Newly renovated and updated decor LOCATION & DECOR: Located right on the beach with typical Westin decor. Light, bright, and luxurious island living - resort style. PRICE: $$$-$$$$ It's a resort so you aren't going to leave here without spending an arm and likely a leg. SWAG/AMENITIES: -room service -multiple restaurants on location -convenience store -daily activities and classes -multiple swimming pool -pool bars -outdoor hot tub -One of those surf riders although it was out of service. It's actually been out of service every time I've stayed here. -washer and dryer in unit -jacuzzi tub in unit -large vanity mirror with edge lighting -balconies and patios -fitness center +Spa STAFF & EXPERIENCE: Now this place is really cool. One of the best Westin properties. The location is great and there's plenty to do here. Daily activities can keep you busy and they are pretty fun. This is in a great location. Much closer to the heart of Cancun. Walking distance even. Staff was excellent here. We got checked in quite easily. We got a taxi from the other location to this one which they paid for. That was nice. Part of a tour we had to take, but we were able to spend the day out that way before heading back. This is definitely the better of the 2 Westin locations with its proximity to the main strip and the service provided.

Yelp
10 years...10 years I've given this place my business... I've brought family here every year. I just got back from a stay here and it was the worst! PLEASE TRY ANOTHER PLACE. Arrival: The one transportation was supposed to pick us up.... left us at the airport and said we were a no show. Our flight was delayed and spoke to someone about our delay... they LIED and said we didn't show and that they tried to call us. First of all- we were in flight so we obviously couldn't answer the phone and two they claim they waited until 820... another lie. We had to pay for a taxi. THEY LIE ABOUT TRACKING YOUR FLIGHT SO IF YOUR FLIGHT IS DELAYED THEY WILL LEAVE YOU THERE!!!! When I tried to bring it to their attention the manager COMPLETELY IGNORED US AND DID NOT ATTEND US. She continued to walk passed us and ignored me. Felt so belittled. Beach service: Arlene was the worst and completely rude. If she didn't like working on the beach- then she should quit. Stay away from her and her awful energy. On top of that- some random employee told us we couldn't move the beach chairs closer to the beach- must have been a new rule because we've NEVER been told that in 10 years!!! Restaurant: buffet- rude server who did not make eye contact and wouldn't wait for you to ask something- he'd walk away mid request! Room service: we were told we'd get room service every day-NOPE - ANOTHER LIE! They will tell you to put a card on the bed if you want your room serviced but that won't happen- good luck with that. I'm all my experience here this time was 3 out of seven. Definitely try another place as this one has lost its charm. ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THIS PLACE: the grounds are nice and beach is beautiful

Yelp
The property is beautiful with lots of amenities, clean rooms, food options, pools, jaccuzis, gym and the works. Since this is a time share property, all rooms have a full kitchen, washer & dryer. Housekeeping services are excellent. Most rooms have a sea facing view. Restaurants are expensive but the convenience is awesome. So why not 5 starts? Just a few annoying reasons. 1. Since they are a time share property, they try to push for the presentation at every given opportunity even after you have declined it several times. They continue to call the room and leave messages, which is annoying. 2. I understand that regular Marriott perks are not available for loyalty members. But atleast have express check-out available to make it convenient and efficient. 3. There was no 'extra mile' that was done inspite of sending them an email well in advance for a special occassion. The email was acknowledged and all they did was try to sell packages and car rentals thru follow up emails. Not what you expect from a luxury property. Nevertheless, it was a great stay at this property and I will recommend them as long as you can put up with their incessant effort to sell time share.

Yelp
Overall, a good experience. The pools and hot tubs are lovely and well maintained. The customer service was excellent, especially on the beach. The sauna and steam room in the gym was a hit too! The location is great and convenient to shopping and eating. The cons were the food at the hotel, minus the breakfast buffet at Oceana, and amount of time it took for us to check in. It took us over 2 hours to check in and be sold excursion packages. We were so tired and hungry from the travel that that was not the time to force us to try to commit to packages. I would recommend others stay here.

Yelp
After a year, we final held our wedding here! Sepcial thanks to Mr. Mora Abraham who is amazing! Althought the weather on our big day is a challenge, most of the part came out stunning, every guests in our family is so enjoyed. I was so disappointed when I saw it was rainning since morning, but the nature enviorment helps a lot. The picture from my relatives phone are still so beautiful! Even the Gazebo was fallen because of the strong wind, we had a great time there! So the whole wedding had to moved into a reserved restaurant which next to the pool. Which I though it was even better than eating the cold food on the dark beach, (the wedding started at 5:00pm, by the time of dinner it would be dark on the beach). And our room is on the 6th floor with gorgeous view, also they put all our guest room close enough for us easy to communicate. All the guest list has already been informed to the front gate, so there was no problem to let them in. Thank you for all the employees who contributed to our wedding! We will be back......the place held our life time memories!

Yelp
The hotel location is perfect for access to the mall across the street, public bus pickup at street level & grocery store within 15 minute walking distance. (Tip: watch the YouTube videos on how to take the bus in the tourist area for help - super easy!) The beach is very well maintained & the seaweed is cleaned daily around 3-4 a.m. I've included updated pictures of the studio room. Do know that the studio has a smaller refrigerator, so keep that in mind for large bottles of drinks. The kitchen is well stocked with necessary items & the laundry soap is provided. I brought laundry soap / bounce in travel packets only because I was unfamiliar with the hotel provided brand. The staff is very friendly & helpful with suggestions for restaurants & tours, etc. Do know that you will be given push to attend their "timeshare presentation" but a firm "nope" solved that issue. Please keep in mind that staff has to ask about the timeshare issue, so don't be too frustrated with the push - just decline if you are not interested. It seemed odd that the hotel put a $1,000 hold on my credit card upon check-in, but I didn't notice such until the next day. I don't know if this is their standard hold, so FYI for what it's worth.

Yelp
An outstanding resort with ocean views from EVERY room.. The amenities are always maintained & the staff do everything they can to ensure your stay is problem free... The team at the resort will tell you how much they enjoy working at the property because of how well the company cares for them. This care then translates into how well each employee takes into ensuring an enjoyable stay for all guests. Happy employees = Happy guests. Plenty of choices when choosing a resort in Cancun, with Lagunamar at the top of every list. Location, amenities, food, and most importantly, the people are what make this resort a must stay. While this property is now part of a larger Marriott portfolio, it will always be a top of line Westin location at it's heart, which cannot be beat. Vacation, relax, repeat!!!

Yelp
What a fabulous place to spend a relaxing vacation!!!! Talk about being treated like royalty. Willie and his crew catered to our every need. Willie makes the best spicy Bloody Mary I've ever had and does it all with a big smile. If you prefer a slower quieter pool there's always to pool on the south side. George and his crew are amazing too. Thank you Westin friends for a trip we'll always remember.

Yelp
This was our first time in Cancun, and we wanted to explore both Westin locations as we are owners of this vacation club. From the moment we pulled up in our rental car, they treated us like family. We stayed here for two nights, and upon entering our studio room, I was pleasantly surprised by the Yamil Lu'um ruins being part of our ocean view. We checked in by 4 pm and spent most of our time outside the room but it was wonderful returning after a day of adventure to soak up some of the sea and relax. Situated in the heart of Cancun's Hotel Zone, the Westin Lagunamar boasts a prime beachfront location overlooking the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. Guests can easily access popular attractions, vibrant nightlife, and pristine beaches. They have several pools, but I didn't use them since we had the Caribbean Sea footsteps away. The resort offers spacious and elegantly appointed villas and suites featuring modern amenities and breathtaking ocean views. Expect comfortable beds, plush bedding, luxurious bathrooms, and well-equipped kitchenettes or full kitchens in select units. With stores all within a short distance, it was easy to grab some items for a nice dinner to cook in the room. With just two of us, this worked out perfectly. Amenities: - Direct access to a beautiful stretch of white sand beach, where you can relax on lounge chairs, enjoy water sports, or soak up the sun. - The resort offers several dining options, from casual beachside eateries to upscale restaurants serving international cuisine and local specialties. We didn't take advantage of any but had coffee from the market. -Expect a full-service spa offering a range of rejuvenating treatments and a fitness center equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. - The Westin Lagunamar offers a variety of activities and entertainment options for guests of all ages, including organized excursions, water sports, and kids' clubs. - Free Parking Cons: The studio comes with a queen bed Coffee in the rooms and the owner's lounge was subpar. We bought our own and took advantage of Starbucks in the market onsite. Overall, I am a huge fan of Marriott and Westin's consistency. As Platinum Elite members, the loyalty benefits are outstanding! I cannot wait to return.

Yelp
Thank you for another wonderful trip so far! Want to thank Isidro for the extra special cake for my husband's birthday, it was awesome! Yelp
We spent a week here. Excellent location and friendly staff. Most of the staff spoke English as a second language very well. No problem with feeling safe. The pool was amazing. The hot tubs always seemed to be low on water. One thing for improvement was with the concierge. Although the excursions she picked out were what we were hoping for, she had us be way over prepared and some of the information she gave us was false . The bars were overpriced but the staff was friendly .

Yelp
For so many year we've had a wonderful experience here. It's a beautiful special place. I really hate giving it 4 stars but fell that they just ripped off owners with their Thanksgiving dinner. To charge $90 for a buffet and then charge you for flat water is just wrong. They did a decent job on the Turkey, though when you're charging that don't you have to have pumpkin pie and maybe cranberry sauce. There was no gravy. The pork was really dry. A few of their deserts were ok but most of them just looked pretty but tasted dry. Otherwise the pools are amazing, the staff are generally wonderful and the facilities are really well kept.

Yelp
And weeere back!!! Cant keep us away from here! Our concierge Abi sent us detailed emails about where to meet our transportation when we landed and we have never arrived at the resort faster than we just did, 35 min from leaving the plane (didn't check in bags), immigration, to the front desk. They updated their restaurant recommendation list and the daily activities now include daily pickle ball. And they added a QR code scanner to order drinks/food at the poolside/lounge area- love that they change with the times! Staff super friendly, like always!

Yelp
Disappointed :( I'll start with the positives to be fair: Great location Comfy beds Friendly staff Huge pool Disappointed: Lack of direction from front desk staff, when sending us to our rooms leading in confusion and time wasted. Room number 532 is not on the fifth floor. It is actually on the 3rd floor! Room number 235 is not on the second floor as you were expect, but it is actually on 3rd floor. So both times, we were roaming the halls trying to figure out how we missed. Eventually, went back down to the front desk. They told us to use a different elevator, which brought us back to the same problem and then on the third attempt, someone actually corrected us and told us we were on the wrong floor. Does not inspire confidence. Most Americans are used to a room number starting with 5 being on the 5th floor and so on. Two separate elevators we're broken during our stay. In the main part of the building and another in building two One hot tub was not working All were fixed before end of our stand but multiple things not working is a little unsettling. Repeated request to sit through a timeshare sales presentation They said it was "imperative" that we attend this presentation and called every day. I understand sales, but it was a bit much. No water stations available on the property. Assume this is by design to sell bottles of water- Don't they make enough money on food & alcohol?!?! No combine complementary soap or lotion in the bathroom in our room we had to ask for it Small thing....but when charging premium pricing I'm surprised Drinks like Micheladas, etc., are all made with canned mix not fresh ingredients Lastly, and most offensive.....a small bottle of Sunscreen in their market was $35 US~!!! I understand and expect a convenience fee markup when travelling, but $35 for a bottle that should cost about $12 is absolute price gouging.

Yelp
We came here as timeshare owners from a different Vistana home resort. The location is excellent with access to the beautiful Caribbean sea with amazing turquoise water and white sand beach. This is probably the most beautiful beach I have ever experienced. The water is at my ideal temperature - cool and refreshing. The resort has many amenities which we took advantage of including 3 restaurants, 3 gyms, 3 pools. The large pool was amazing and family friendly. The concierge was very helpful in recommending excursions and planning our owners update. Our double room with lock-in was very clean, comfortable, and had a well equipped kitchen although we mostly ate out. The only negative was the off/on Wifi. I really enjoyed talking with the staff, practicing my Spanish, and meeting other timeshare owners. We really enjoyed our time here but are not sure we'll be back again to Mexico which is a long story. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Came here with friends for a week and it was a great experience. You can always count on consistency and quality from the Marriott brands. The people who run the fun center were excellent. We enjoyed playing pickleball, trivia and trying the guacamole after the cooking demonstration. Brunch is a great deal and delicious. They have happy hours every day at the pool and sports bar. Location is close to shopping and other great restaurants.

Yelp
Amazing place to stay, this is my second visit to Cancun Mexico. The hotel staff is friendly-the resort itself is relaxing. I always enjoy that brief walk to the beach since the hotel is right on the beach.

Yelp
I'd say this place is pretty awesome. They have daily activities you can do throughout the day such as yoga, Pilates, beach volleyball. The pools are a bigger size and the beach is absolutely stunning. Here the water is almost a clear blue. The room was awesome too! It had a washer and dryer and kitchen necessities. Nearby are grocery stores you can go to and cook here in your room if you'd like! I recommend Soriana or Chedraui! Soriana is located inside of a mall and they have a food court there you can eat at. Would HIGHLY recommend Element 78 for sushi. The sushi is to DIE FOR. Back to the hotel, there are two gyms you can utilize if you wish. The main gym has a sauna and a steam room. If you love the night life, this place is pretty close to the bars downtown! You might have to take a taxi but it's not a far drive at all.

Yelp
Amazing property fully embracing what a Westin should be. Great F&B, bar service, and very friendly staff. Right across the street from premium shopping - no need to move from immediate area. Great place to stay.

Yelp
This resort is clean and the grounds are well kept. The check is staff is friendly and Humberto Santos was great at explaining everything to us. They have two pool areas, the main one with an infinity pool and the smaller area with just a regular pool. They have 4 jacuzzis that are open 24 hours a day. The pool areas are 8-10pm and they have attentive beverage services. Happy Hour at the pool areas are 3-4 pm and 5-6 at the Dune sports bar. Our room was a studio with a kitchenette and we were comfortable. It had a balcony with a magnificent view of the smaller pool area and the beach. We couldn't have asked for a better view from our room- we stayed in building 14. They don't do room service everyday so make sure you schedule your room service based on their availability. Beware of the "welcome" sit down with the concierge crew. I avoided their emails, and then sat with them one morning to get details about shows, events and such. Turns out they just want to sign you up for a timeshare presentation and unless you are interested in that just avoid the "welcome" switch down altogether. You can find better excursions deals elsewhere online for way cheaper. We books ours through TripAdvisor and used Amigo Tours which have great reviews. I will leave a review for that tour later on.

Yelp
This hotel resort is near the north end of the Hotel Zone. It is mainly a vacation ownership property, with 80% of the guests being owners; we are not owners. There are studio and 1-bedroom rooms, which they call villas with full kitchens and washer/dryer. There are 3 huge pools and 4 large hot tubs. There are 3 restaurants; the main one opens for breakfast and dinner while the other two opens 11am to 6pm. There is a spa and two 24-hour gym. The staff throughout the resort and courteous and have service with a smile. Check-in was very quick in the main building (building 5). They have a person handling your luggage from transport to room. They have many people at the check-in desk. We were assigned room 252, a 1-bedroom villa, capable of 4 people. This room also has a door connecting to the adjoining room. After check-in, they will inform the person to bring the luggage to your room. You will be introduced to your person concierge; ours is Daniel. He gave us info about the resort and some gifts: a beach bag, a grocery bag, and two drink tickets, either for Starbucks Americano and an alcoholic/non-alcoholic drink at the sports bar. There is free WiFi throughout the compound, including the beach area. There is even an ethernet cable in each villa; it is useful if your laptop has an ethernet port; have a port extender with There are 14 8-storey buildings. They are connected by semi-covered hallways along the outward facing side. All villas are facing a beautiful compound with views of the ocean. All villas have balconies with a table and chairs except the ground floor villas. Every building has 2 large elevators that are quiet that you won't even notice that the doors open/close if you are not watching. Our one-bedroom villa was reasonably large. We had a nice view of the main compound and the beach. The room was clean. There was a full kitchen, which included a full-size fridge-freezer, microwave, toaster, blender, plates, glassware, cutlery, dishwashing soap, etc. There is a rectangular dining table with 6 chairs. The bathroom is huge with a double sink, shower, and a huge soaker tub, which sliding windows looking into the main bedroom. There are separate fronted glass doors for the shower and toilet "alcoves." The shower is a large space and has a rainfall shower head. A strange thing is that the closet and security safe are located inside the bathroom; hopefully, you don't steam up your bathroom too much! The living room had a large pullout couch, which sleeps 2. There are convenient AC and USB ports built into the couch, but they don't work. There are enough AC plugs throughout the villa. Our room had 2 TVs and 2 Blu-Ray players. The living room TV also had a sound bar and plugs in the front for USB and HDMI inputs. 90% of the TV channels are in Spanish; press the SAP button for English. The scheduled cleaning would be on Dec 25; I only requested to clean the bathroom and kitchen, and she did a good job. There are scheduled activities throughout the day and special dinners (like Christmas and Mexican Fiesta) at the main restaurant. See my photos for examples of activities, like salsa dance lessons, in which we participated. There are 2 main infinity pools, a large water slide, a toddler wading pool, and several (very hot) large whirlpools. The main pool temperature was warm, exactly how I like it. You can sign for beach towels and maybe snorkel masks for free. You can reserve suntanning chairs as long as you spread a towel on it. Even if you are late, you can still find some unreserved chairs in the pool areas and definitely in the beach area. The beach is clean, with gray sand. There was very little seaweed problem in Dec; there was a huge problem during the summer, making the beach almost unswimmable and unsightly. There is a tractor that smoothens the sand at non-peak times like at 6am. The Kid's Club has a charge: hourly, half day, full day, etc. There are 2 big rooms separating the children by age. Mini golf is free. Pick up golf clubs from the Kid's Club or towel service. There are other games like tennis, table tennis, big chess set, etc. My son and I played chess (he has been studying and playing chess against the computer) for 2 months. We played mini golf and table tennis. Oceano Restaurante, has breakfast buffet ($420 pesos = C$30) and a-la-carte dining options. It is open for lunch and dinner. Nothing is free, not including bottles of water. However, if you go to the business centre and gym, you can get water there to refill your bottles. You can also find free tea, coffee and water in the owner's lounge. There are 4 BBQ areas with 3 BBQ stations each for residents to use. There are also 2 tables in each area. There is a small day spa and two gyms. The gym at building 5 is large. There are a few spots throughout the property where they can give you a massage on the spot. Review 2022-142

Yelp
My sweetie, Son and I are staying in Cancun at The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort Villas & Spa. Our assigned room is on the 3rd floor of the furthest wing/building 14 from the front entrance. Additionally, renovations including painting are in progress. The odour is in the air! Nevertheless, the bonus was close proximity to the hotel pool. Walk down 3 flights of stairs and presto...da pool and ocean beach! The grounds of this hotel are beautiful and well maintained. Huge pool & hot tubs. The rooms are terrific (renovations aside). Hotel staff are extremely helpful and courteous. There are many venues less than 20-minutes away to shop and dine. Terrific bonus!

Yelp
Where do I begin. I write this with tears in my eyes as we are departing tomorrow morning. The flip side is we spent 12 glorious days at this amazing resort. It was our first visit to Westin Lagunamar, and I can honestly say there are many more days ahead for us. We will be back. Dennis..... our Concierge. He was awesome and so pleasant. Even before we arrived. He has made sure that we had everything we needed. He scheduled our COVID test and was able to get it pushed up to an earlier time which was much appreciated. Ignacio, Armando, and Roberto..... amazing servers. We loved that they remembered our names. Always greeting us with such warmth. Can't wait to see them again. Jean Pastor... the person who brought the YES out of my husband. We are now Vacation Owners. The thing about it he did it with such ease. No pressure at all. We will forever be grateful for him. We also look forward to working with Dalia. So many people to thank and so much love to go around. Our Studio was perfect. Just enough room for the two of us. And it came with the most amazing ocean view. The pics do no do it all justice. Everything we needed was in our studio and on the respite property. Bonus.... la Isla Harbour Shopping Mall is directly across the street. So Good. Thank you Westin Lagunamar for a wonderful time. See you soon.

Yelp
Also, while I'm at it ( Hopefully you guys read this review) the food left a lot to be desired. I didn't want to travel too far because I was by myself so I ordered room service. I will be back very soon and I hope you change your menu! Why can't you have authentic Mexican food. Mexican food is delicious. Anyway, I know this won't happen because I am not your targeted audience which is why your targeted audience didn't have to wait two hours for a room that was already clean. Anyway, if you want to continue your play on American food (I left America to get away from it) do it right. Okay. The hamburger bun needs to be smaller, I understand you want to make it look big but it is filling without the oversized bun and actually delicious. The pizza was a a shame. An undercooked pizza with one piece of pepperoni per piece, lol. It was laughable. The club sandwich I ordered was pathetic. One bite and all the ingredients fall out. Yuck! That mayonnaise on the sandwich made everything soggy and fall apart and I love mayo on a sandwich. It went in the garbage! The drinks I ordered were good! Piña cada and Miami Vice which is piña colada and strawberry daiquiri. NO ALCOHOL WHAT SO EVER! I'm an extremely light weight so I should have been feeling it. Nope! Nope! Nope! Please take my reviews into consideration and make a few changes. I'm so torn between coming back here or to the other Westin :(

Yelp
We just spent last week 8-15 at Lagunamar, it was our 4th time. We absolutely love it. The resort is so well maintained. The rooms are also very well maintained. Everything about this resort is exceptional. The pools are spectacular. Happy Hour at the swimup bar is a hoot. We love the location. We like to eat breakfast and lunch in our room most days. But the menu choices are tasty So the Market a few blocks away is very convenient to purchase necessities. Uber and Taxis are also very convenient. Everyone is extremely friendly. The bed is so comfy, and the full kitchen is a plus. Now for the bathroom, huge. The shower is perfect and a private toilet. The room is a perfect layout for vacation.

Yelp
OMG! As a traveler and a Westin Owner that has traveled all over the world. I do not recommend this place for eating at the restaurants. The property is beautiful and the rooms are nice and clean. However, when it came to the food it was a hit and miss. My husband and I both got food poisoning. I did a review on TripAdvisor and they responded with they assisted me with my issue and I was not happy. 1. They reached out to me after reading my comment the day other my post asking what can they do? Hello, if a person is running to the bathroom how could a person help? My husband sickness was worse than mine. He got sick on Sunday, 8/16 and was still sick until 8/19. My sickness came upon me early Monday morning 8/17 and last until late Tuesday 8/18. The staff is rude and doesn't follow up on your complaints. Half cooked empanadas and raw fries from two different restaurants on the property. They didn't give me credit for the meals until they read my review on travel advisor. When I told the manager about my experience before I wrote my review, he said I'll talk with the restaurant; instead of him saying that he's sorry to hear of the bad food and poor service

Yelp
This is a beautiful place to enjoy all that Cancún has to offer. Rooms are large and tastefully decorated. I have a time share here and enjoy visiting every year. The people are accommodating and friendly and most speak English. The resort grounds are beautiful with enough comfortable chairs for sun or shade and the service around the pop area is excellent. He beach is beautiful with water only found in Mexico but can be a little rough at times. Plenty of chairs m, hours and umbrellas. The resort is across the street from the mall which is wonderful with both reasonable and expensive stores as well as restaurants and a casino. There are many restaurants to choose from and most are wonderful and you can walk or take a cab which are always available and reasonable . This is a very safe, friendly and beautiful place to vacation.

Yelp
Although it was a descent experience, I wouldn't stay at this particular location again. Very outdated; however they are giving it a facelift. The food was actually very good and the beach area is good. The front desk staff is amazing...very nice and professional.

Yelp
Great place to go for vacation. The service is top notch! I really enjoyed my short stay here. My only knock here is the food. The food is average and overpriced considering what you can get right outside on the hotel strip. The hotel restaurants are good for snacks. Did not try their breakfast. But otherwise, really enjoyed my stay. Looking forward to going back.

Yelp
Edit: my review seems to have been taken down. Not cool Lagunamar, not cool. Wanted to love this place. Seems like for some people, it works out great, but for people like me, I'll never go back or recommend it. First, I am not a vacation owner, but am Marriott bonvoy member. This might have something to do with level of service you get; owners get treated better. Check in takes ridiculously long. And our room was filthy , obviously was not cleaned by housekeeper (unmade bed, dirty dishes, old paperwork from previous guests, towels strung about, Kleenex in trash) even though it was 6pm. Had to go back to front desk, waited 30 mins for manager to fix this, which in short was to put us in a different room. The rooms, views, and grounds are beautiful. Stunning really. Multiple pools, beachfront, activities, hammocks, fitness and spa. However, the beautiful views and grounds do not outweigh the cons for me. Cons: 95% of the staff I encountered were unfriendly, rude, and annoyed. Everything takes so long. Impossible to get lounges at pool or beach. The food is disgusting and they have horrible menu choices. I reluctantly ate it each meal. Worst of all, at 2am on the day we were flying back home, I woke to food poisoning symptoms from this place. I noticed other reviewers mention food poisoning but gave 5 stars...any place that makes me sick doesn't deserve 5 stars, not even 4 or even 3. Staff should be trained on food safety to ensure guests do not get sick. The chef reached out to me via email and I explained where and what I ate. Haven't heard back. I came here as a travel advisor in hopes to send clients here one day. I really wanted to love this place as the views and beach are breathtaking. But...Nope, big fat nope will I come here or send clients here ever

Yelp
Rooms were nice however our silverware was less than clean. Hotel was empty yet they put us in building 12 next to construction-no sleeping in here!! Ask for map of hotel and check your views to select a room with more than a peek a boo ocean view. Service slooooowwww.. but the people were nice. We had emailed several times regarding help recommendations making birthday/week plans for 17 people for the week with no help -this was the most disappointing. Pool/beach/food awe

Yelp
We have been coming here for years and it's one of my favorite places. The team is amazing all around, the service at the pool is great, the accommodations are comfortable. The pool is the most breath taking pool I have seen ocean front and at 6:00 am sitting at the pool the sunrise over the ocean is just stunning

Yelp
I initially discovered this lovely resort by purchasing a package at a charity event. Wow! It was much better than expected. I loved it so much I have returned on several more occasions. The resort itself is beautiful. The grounds are very well maintained. The pools are endless. The lobby area is welcoming. The location is perfect. It is directly on the beach and right across from great activities, shopping and dining. They have added more buildings yet it does not feel like a mega, impersonal resort. It is spread out and never feels crowded. The low rise property offers fantastic views without stark towers. The rooms feel like well appointed apartments. There's a full kitchen, comfortable living room and the bedroom is huge with a large walk in closet. The decor is tasteful and attractive. The Concierge team is incredible. They were so helpful and went out of their way to assist with any request. I wanted to give flowers to the Manager, so a lovely young lady Concierge picked up flowers on her way into work the next morning. Now that's hospitality!! The grounds were kept in perfect condition. The pool area was immaculate - no wet towels laying around etc. There are grills to have your own BBQ that were spotless. I was so happy with every aspect of this resort. I have been visiting the Cancun area since 1983, when there were 3-4 hotels total. Now, it's a very commercialized tourist destination. If you choose the right property, you will feel like you are in paradise without all the cheesiness. I look forward to returning in the future.

Yelp
Andy at the Elite Front Desk is an absolute gem! She really went the extra mile in helping get our room situated with a really wonderful view. It's clear she actually cares about her guests & giving them the best possible experience.

Yelp
This place was wonderful! Stayed here for my friend's birthday and the staff and room was wonderful. They have a market and Starbucks inside and beautiful pools with beach access. The location is right across from the mall. Super safe and beautiful. The restaurant food can be hit or miss and quite expensive. The drinks that we ordered were tasty but not super strong. It's expected at a resort and the pricing was okay - not terrible. It's super convenient to lay on the beach and have stuff brought to you so I get why people say you're paying for the access. People were kind and attentive. The cabs outside are easy and always there. Loved staying here! Definitely would recommend.

Yelp
What a lovely resort! While we didn't have an all-inclusive stay, we had a great 4 night stay at the Westin Lagunamar. Free WiFi is available throughout the resort, even on the beach, although it does get a little spotty there. The views were amazing, even though we aren't on the top floor. We had a balcony overlooking the beach waterfront and the resort. The room was clean and new, so we didn't feel uncomfortable. We stayed in a studio room for 4, which was a little cramped but worked, since all we were using the room for was sleeping and showering. We enjoyed happy hour every day at the pool bar and restaurant - half off already affordably priced alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages! The private beach is beautiful, although I wasn't a fan of the vendors walking up and down the beach asking if we wanted to buy anything. It seemed to mar the pristine beach view. The beach chairs are free, unlike some beaches I've been to before. The pool was nice, with a slight infinity pool effect. For some reason, we struggled to get an optimal picture, though. I noticed there were also "street" vendors in the resort area, which weren't overly pushy with us seeing if we wanted to buy anything, but it slightly ruined that resort experience, too. We stayed across the street from La Isla, which is a touristy outdoor shopping mall, perfect for some dependable dining and shopping. And of course for the Starbucks! There was really nothing bad about this resort. Rooms are clean and updated (or new? Not sure the age of the resort) in a relatively quiet location in the Hotel Zone area. Great for friends and family - not a quote party resort but pretty family friendly. I definitely recommend!

Yelp
I re-read my last review before starting this update and felt kinda bad that I really crushed this resort in a couple of ways. Most of that was due to the crippling case of food poisoning I got from a rather expensive steak and lobster dinner on the beach that confined me to bed for the majority of our vacation. However, that was earlier this year, we came back, and my second experience was infinitely better. Why come back to a place that I rated so harshly the first time? Well, 1) I do believe in second chances, and 2) Westin Lagunamar has the best pool complex in Cancun, period. I want to start off by highlighting how absolutely incredible the employees at this resort are. Seriously, even with the phenomenal pool, Westin Lagunamar wouldn't be a fraction of what it is without the outstanding men and women that work their asses off from early in the morning until late at night. Felipe, Jorge, Joaquin, and Efren were particular standouts, but everyone here really is top notch, and all while wearing a smile. Under the mask of course. That brings me to my second point. Westin Lagunamar has found a way to still have great, responsive service while keeping most of their amenities open, and doing so in a responsible, socially distanced way. If you're looking to get away after months of plague-induced cabin fever, you could do a lot worse than the Westin Lagunamar, and Mexico in general. In all honesty, it's probably safer here than your local grocery store if COVID safety is your top priority. I saw several families here that were able to safely vacation with their older, higher risk parents and grandparents. Check out my first review for details on the rooms and amenities. The hot water situation still hasn't been solved, which is unfortunate since the showers themselves are amazing. Secondly, the Marriott timeshare program wasn't even mentioned to me last visit. This time around, the concierge staff was constantly giving us the hard sell to sign up for the sales pitch, which can be dialed back a bit. I completely understand that these are tough times and every opportunity to generate revenue is crucial, so I won't beat the concierge team up as they were very kind, helpful, and a delight to see in the lobby. I highly recommend the Westin Lagunamar. If you're a Marriott Bonvoy member, you may be tempted to book the Ritz because of the "prestige." However, after having spent time at both places, you want to be at the Westin Lagunamar. It's an easy 1.3 mile walk on the beach down to the Ritz for you to confirm that you made the right call. But hey, be sure to grab a Modelo at the Ritz's outside bar for your walk back!

Yelp
Pretty much the only redeeming quality about this place is its oceanfront location facing the Caribbean Sea directly across from La Isla Shopping center on Kukulkan Boulevard. Wi-Fi is so slow and spotty I can't even pull up a webpage to pay my credit card bill. Cable tv is lackluster and doesn't even have a guide page to let you know what's playing. Room amenities are sad, even for the "premium" rooms. Definitely been to much nicer resorts and will not be back.

Bridgette P.

Yelp
This was our fourth visit to the Westin, and our family loves coming to Mexico. We got married here, so we know our way around and definitely like the ease and location of Lagunamar to the supermarkets and amazing restaurants in the area. The upgrades to the room definitely made for cleaner amenities which was a happy surprise. One thing I would NOT recommend is using The One Transportation for your return trip home. Our driver left us without so much as a phone call even though we had paid for roundtrip transfers. We were downstairs waiting to check out and there was a line. When we asked for a refund because they had left they refused, and the manager wouldn't even help us hail a cab to get to the airport. I don't understand how a whole car service company doesn't have any additional cars that can be called to take you to the airport. I'll never use them again. They were very rude. Do yourself a favor and just take a taxi! Not worth it and they don't deserve the money. Felt like a SCAM.

Yelp
We always enjoy staying with our family in the summer or on spring break. we took our kids over spring break and they had so much fun playing in the pool and going to the kids club! I love that is close to shopping and restaurants! Staff is great with recommendations! I wish they would fix the light to have cars stop for crossing the street or the hotels would chip in and put someone out there to direct! It's pretty scary going across the street with littles! We always feel safe and welcomed on the property.

Yelp
First stayed here. Our suite was very nice and convenient. I like having a washer and dryer si ce you can throw your wet clothes in it after going to the beach or pool. Other convenient amenities are having ATMs on the first floor and grills to cook your own food. This Hotel is a good choice if you are planning to visit Cancun.
