The hotel staff really made this whole experience feel top of the line. Every team member went above and beyond and our wedding party felt so taken care of. Because of the quality of the team, it was easy to trust that any issues would be handled promptly and professionally. Not to mention the rooms were excellent, so comfortable, & the linens were so soft & clean. There were absolutely no issues. I will only stay at the Westin when visiting Halifax from now on.

Beautiful hotel. Great location and the staff was very nice and helpful. The valet service was very handy. We arrived late one evening and the bellman took our bags up to our room right after check in so we could get some dinner after a long day of travel and before the kitchen closed. Would definitely recommend and look forward to visiting again next time.

Staff very friendly . The complementary cold water, lime, lemon , etc in lobby a nice touch. The location is great. The water front walk , which is absolutely amazing, is only a two minutes walk. The room was clean and comfortable. Although the room decor is a bit dated, I definitely will stay here again.

We are currently experiencing the Maritimes and this was our first stop for three nights. The rooms were cool and comfy in the hot and humid weather. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful with any questions. The pool was wonderfully cool and refreshing. The location was fairly central and for further exploration, the ebike and e-scooter rentals were close by. There was even an essential oil sampler that had an oil to help with sleep. Our room had a harbour view and it was quiet until morning when all the guests started to stir. We would definitely return.

Great staff, location and food options! We stay here whenever in Halifax and always enjoy the friendly hospitality! ||We like the location and proximity to the waterfront, the rooms and pool, and they have really upped their on site dining the past few years. Excellent all round!

The closet was huge. The beds were comfortable. The hotel was conveniently located, and the restaurant was good. Good meeting up lounge area. We came in late on the train, and just walked over from the station to the hotel next door. Couldn't get any better than that!

Great hotel near the waterfront! The rooms are clean with modern amenities. The beds are extremely comfortable! The breakfast is probably the best hotel breakfast that we've had. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
My first visit to Halifax, NS was truly unforgettable, thanks to the exceptional experience I had with Marriott Bonvoy. I chose to stay at The Westin Nova Scotian, which boasts the best location in Downtown Halifax, right in the heart of the city. 。 Upon arrival, I was delighted to receive a complimentary upgrade to a corner room with stunning views. The hotel staff also surprised me with a special treat for my birthday, making the occasion even more memorable. The cocktails at Seaport Social were a highlight, perfectly crafted and thoroughly enjoyable. 。 I cannot express enough gratitude to the wonderful staff for their warm hospitality and exceptional service. You all made my first visit to Halifax incredibly memorable. Thank you again for everything.

Yelp
I don't know how to say this delicately, so I'll just say it. The hotel has mice. This wasn't a problem in the upper floor rooms, but we definitely saw multiple mice scurrying along on the main floor and conference level (second floor). This wouldn't be a huge issue, but we saw them where food was being served. This isn't good. When we raised this with the hotel staff, we got a shrug and a "yeah, they get in sometimes". Umm.... Otherwise the hotel was quite nice. The gym is excellent, and having a pool is nice. Not sure I can recommend it, though, based on the above.

Yelp
Nestled in tranquility, this hotel exudes a serene vibe, offering a peaceful escape from the world's hustle. Their Eggs Benedict is a morning delight, with perfectly poached eggs and velvety hollandaise. While the TV is dated, who needs it when you have a captivating view of the water, occasionally obstructed by passing cruise ships... ‍

Yelp
Definitely improved over time. This hotel is so well located and I do appreciate the comfortable beds. The nice Manager at check in upgraded our room to a king bed higher floor. Last week my husband was here for business and we had a junior suite with a rooftop patio that was very cool. Due to the pandemic, rooms are touched up rather than fully cleaned, unless you request a thorough cleaning the night before. We opted for no cleaning.

Yelp
Everytime we come to Halifax we stay here now the staff are amazing and I have to say housekeeping staff are amazing I don't know if they work 24 hours a day but the lady that came to bring us extra blankets our first night definitely deserves a shout out she was so nice very kind hearted and amazing with my kids. The pool was warm kids loved it and didn't want to leave We will definitely be back here in the future!!

Yelp
Pretty disappointing stay at the Westin Nova Scotian. The people were friendly and the harbour view was good but that was about it. Firstly, parking was quite expensive for $23 a night. That's like Toronto prices but in Halifax. We stayed in room 1119, which was supposed to be a "premium" room. It was right beside the service elevator shaft so you could hear the elevators go up and down. They were super nice and said that we could change the room but by the time we were in bed, it was the last thing we wanted to do. The shower was messed up as well with the temperature being super inconsistent. It would go hot one minute and cold the other. We decided to order in room breakfast for the next morning and called down to order at night to prepare for the next morning. They told me that the system was closed and I would need to call in the morning to order breakfast. Never heard of that before for in room dining. When the pancakes did come, they had doubled up the order and brought 2 orders instead of one. The pancakes themselves were super dry as well and ended up being $25 with everything included. I'm fine with paying more for a good experience but this was far from it. Don't think I'll ever be back here.

Yelp
Our 3rd time in Halifax was excellent and The Westin Nova Scotian was part of the reason for that! The last time we were here we stayed at the other end of the boardwalk at the Marriot Harbour Side but I will only stay at the Westin from now on. I like a few of the restaurants at this end of the city, easy walking distance from the hotel. You have the grocery and liquor store in the mall right beside you and the market on the waterfront right behind as well as Garrison Brewery. All just 2 min walk. We found the staff to be really helpful and very friendly and we also loved having room service but we ate too much cheese cake cause it was just a phone call away lol The views of the harbour from our 10th story room were great and for Half our stay we were up graded to a suite and had views of the city that was cool also. The food we had in the lounge was really good & open till midnight for drinks, the kitchen closes for 11:00pm but room service is 24 hrs. Was all so good especially one of the cheese cakes that had real chocolate covered bacon, yes that's right chocolate covered Bacon !! We had the complimentary continental breakfast a couple of the days and as Platinum members for $5 more you get the hot buffet with the fresh made waffles or omelettes. Everything was fresh & very enjoyable, it's very standard as for a breaky buffet but the beans and the oatmeal were very good. The pool area is quite nice and there's a small computer/business area just off the lobby. And yes it's an older building so very charming but also comes with some inconsistencies that you'd expect from a older hotel. We didn't have any problem with the hot water taking a while to get up the pipes to the sink or shower or the tight bathrooms, little things like that but the overall experience being there is very nice! If you need a Modern pristine hotel then maybe there's a better fit somewhere else but this hotel and the staff make this place welcoming & comfortable when in this wonderful city.

Yelp
Although this Westin was rated a "four-star hotel", it was a bit old and out-dated. While it may have been a grand hotel once upon a time, it feels a bit run down probably only deserves three stars. The shower head was terrible. The water pressure was too low for warm water and the water was way too hot when the pressure was just right. The king size mattress in our room wasn't even fully covered- the bed sheets were too small. However, the location of the hotel was excellent. There is even a Yuk Yuk's at the lobby level.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here for a few days. The hotel is conveniently located to anything downtown. Pretty much anywhere we wanted to go was walkable, but just in case there are always cabs nearby... fyi, the casino is less than a ten dollar cab ride away. I felt like it was a little pricey, especially when looking at similar hotels in other hub cities, but there isn't many comparable options in the area -- that we could see. Always a little thrifty on vacation, we were glad to find an Atlantic Superstore just down the street. Couple this with the fact that there is a decent sized mini fridge meant we could supplement our eating out with a little much needed nutritional boost. All in all, can't say anything bad about the service, as everyone from doorman to housekeeping to concierge were great.

Yelp
The Westin Nova Scotian in a great spot for experiencing everything Downtown Halifax has to offer. It's right next to the Halifax main waterfront and is close to Pier 21 (which has great shops & the Museum of Immigration) and a ton of shops, restaurants & stores. The exterior of the hotel is very classic and so are the common areas. I love how one of the doormen is always in a kilt! The hotel definitely needs some upgrades which it's in the process of and will also be renovating throughout the next year. The rooms are definitely dated but comfortable (older fixtures, doors, heating/cooling systems etc). Initially I stayed in a room facing the park/west which is not a bad view.. That is until you stay on the other side of the building! The waterfront view is definitely stunning so ask for a waterfront room if possible. Overall the staff is very helpful. One thing that threw me for a loop was that they charge you for the entire room charges when you first check in. Usually hotels charge you for incidentals and this was not the case and I was charged for all nights. My suggestion to the staff was to make sure that is known up front. The hotel has great meeting rooms, a small business center, a spa, fitness & a really beautiful pool! It's a little pricey for the upgrades that it needs but overall it's a great hotel! (Author's note: I was comped one night as a travel blogger - all opinions are mine)

Yelp
The company I work for had its annual sales conference in Halifax from Monday to today ... 65 of us arrived from across the country. We all stayed at the Westin plus our two days of meetings were here along with meals (two breakfasts, two lunches and a supper). Granted the food was produced on a mass basis and was so-so. The hotel is old and historic ... I like that. My room had two double beds in it. Very comfy. I was able to open a window or adjust the a/c (I tend to like it a bit chilly). Internet is $10/day. It's off the beaten path a bit, though, from the downtown core.

Yelp
Unacceptable. I checked in 20 minutes ago and was given a room directly atop a wedding reception that is loud enough to hear the songs and make the floor shake. When I called the front desk, I was told it will go until 1am. After travelling since 8am to get here, that sounds very unappealing. Hoping to be offered another room, they only offered an empty apology and said they'd ask the wedding to turn down the music. What?? Why would the wedding guests not all be assigned the rooms most exposed to their music? Failing that, anyone who doesn't want to be subjected to second-hand rap at midnight should be offered an alternative! Granted, on this stay I booked a cheap rate through Hotwire. However, I travel for business regularly and pay full freight; this really knocks down the Westin brand for me.

Yelp
BEAUTIFUL HISTORIC HOTEL, GREAT STAFF, AWESOME LOCATION! Just got back from a week at the WESTIN Nova Scotian. Checking in was a very positive experience and Jessica and Christina are perfect ambassadors for the hotel. Our room was on the 3rd floor with a view of the harbour. It was a well laid out room with 2 double beds, a dresser for all our stuff, a huge closet to store our luggage in, and a table and chair. Best thing: the windows opened for fresh air! Breakfast at the Elements On Hollis is out of this world. I have been to Paris (France) and the croissants at the Element are way better than what I had in Paris. Make sure you chat with Jose during breakfast - he is a sweetheart! Thank you to everyone who made our stay so memorable. Halifax is a very walkable city and it was great that the Westin is so centrally located. With a short walk to the harbourfront with the Tall Ships and Buskers, the mini train stop right beside the hotel, and the bus stop only 2 minute walk away, we were able to explore the city easily. Tip: Harbourview is awesome, but on the higher floors you might not have much view when the fog is in.

Yelp
I was recently put up in a room at The Westin by work, so that I could manage to get to the office for my next shift which was occurring after the recent blizzard. First off, when I checked in, the service was great. Since I was coming off a night shift in the early morning, work had assumed that I'd need two nights to cover the weird time period of 7am-7pm that I'd be sleeping there. Westin staff thought otherwise, and I only got billed for the one 'night'. In the end my company pays for it, but it was nice of them nonetheless. The rooms themselves are fairly modern looking, with only a couple remnants from previous ages being the dated doors and the tile in the shower. The TV was a good quality LG, and the shower had great water pressure, so what else do you need for a 12 hour stay? My limited time here was good, slept quite well in the cozy bed, which I often don't in a strange bed. The free wifi was easy to connect to, and while not the fastest in the world at 1mbps, it did the trick for the basics of emails, news and Facebook. I know their larger rooms and suites are even nicer, and I wouldn't hesitate in staying here again.

Yelp
Westin Hotel located in the heart of the downtown area is overlooking the harbour. Within walking distance to some of the best DT pub action that you will find it almost right around the corner. Not only that you have some really nice restaurants available as well located on the waterfront. New renovated the Westin is a 4 1/2 star and has been rewarded for three years in a row with the title of number one hotel in Halifax. The lobby is beautiful with gorgeous marble and pillar's surrounding the desk. Off to your right you have the concierge who was very busy helping the tourists. Located in the main lobby is a store for those late night snack cravings. Many function are held at the hotel and actually my sons safe grad for grade 12 was here and it was amazing the way that they were treated and the hotel went all out. Make sure you stop on by this hotel and spend a night in the prefect spot.

Yelp
I have very mixed feelings about the Westin after hosting my wedding dinner there and using them for all of our guest's lodging in early August 2015. We didn't actually have our nuptials here. We got married in the next door Halifax VIA railway, which is just a hallway away. Since the VIA rail doesn't have a kitchen or a hotel, we decided to book the Westin for lodging (about 80 guests) and our wedding dinner. The lodging aspect was great! I stayed in a suite with my bridesmaids and then groom and it was spacious, connected to a HUGE outdoor patio, and had a full bathroom and a half bath which was really exceptional. Since there were more than the typical 2 guests in the room, we did require extra bath towels, etc which guest services provided without hesitation. Interestingly, there was a pull out couch in the room with no blankets and when we called guest services the first night to request a blanket they told us the hotel did not have extra. Two of my bridesmaids thus spent the night freezing, sleeping with the hotel robes and multiple layers of clothes. The next night we tried guest services again and they brought a comforter right up. Why? We also had issues with the parking. Part of our group rate was supposed to include complementary parking for all wedding guests. They doled this advantage out very intermittently and many of our guests ended up paying for parking even though we were promised that they would not. I have nothing negative to say about the front desk staff or the bell boys. They were all lovely to interact with and helped us more than was required. Finally, the wedding dinner portion. We got paired with the wedding coordinator for the Westin named Jackie Collins. Her service/planning/etc was very mediocre. We had multiple miscommunications with her that could have easily been avoided, except she was very disorganized. We even had more than one instance where we had written "proof" of something she had earlier told us, but then she changed her mind and did not uphold her end of the bargain despite the fact that we had her previous promise in writing (via email). And she never apologizes. To her credit, she runs a busy service (there were 3 weddings the night of ours). However, seeing as this is her only job and she does it frequently, she really should be better at it. She even complained to my hubby and I when she came to check on us in the middle of our appetizers that she was stressed out and busy because of all the weddings. Call me bridezilla, but I didn't really care about her busyness. The food was very mediocre. My husband's uncle found a plastic bottle cap in his seafood chowder and the desserts were served cold which was not very tasty. Additionally, we were promised a tasting as part of our contract with the Westin, but she later told us she could not accommodate this. The service of the food was very nicely done and the servers were all excellent. The set up staff was also very good and we ended up getting extra time to set up the room the night before due to their efficiency. This was a very nice surprise and made a big difference in our stress level on the day of.

Yelp
My only night at the Westin (thus far) was definitely a good experience. No fuss, no muss. I was especially impressed with the cleanliness and general good quality of the rooms. Despite my occasional slovenliness, I sleep very poorly in questionably clean quarters and I had no problems at the Westin! The Westin has a promotion running right now that goes as follows: Once you book for your first night ($179) you receive your second and third nights for the total of your birth year. ie- if you're born in 1971, you pay $71/night for your second and third nights. An especially good deal if you're a senior but still decent for us whippersnappers.

Yelp
For a Westin hotel, I expected more. I've stayed here a few times for work and we usually get the queen bed rooms. They're average. Comfortable beds however the white sheets aren't so white and each pillow is a different shade of white. This past stay I had a mouse in my room which was really unfortunate. What was not to my liking was how they dealt with it. When I mentioned to the front desk what was going on, she apologized and said breakfast was going to be on the house. My response to that was "what are you gonna do about the mouse?" They couldn't change my room as they were "fully booked". Long story short, maintenance came up three times without any luck. After the last time, the mouse went into the bathroom where I locked it in. That meant I didn't use the bathroom at all. The next day they were able to give me a different room. Anyways... The hotel was lucky I wasn't terrified of mice or else I would have stayed in the lobby till a different room was available.

Yelp
Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Seriously, I've never had so many conversations with nice staff members at a higher end hotel like this before. Check in was smooth and you can either have valet park your car, or pay to park in the back. Parking was a bit pricey, around $22 for valet and a little less to park in the back lot. There were only two elevators working at the time and they did seem to get a bit congested, so there was a few instances where I had to wait longer than I expected. Our floor was very quiet and I'm not sure if there was anyone else on it. Somehow we managed to get the preferred guest floor! Not sure how that happened! I liked the fact that all the hallway lighting was motion activated. The room was on the smaller side, which was to be expected at an 85-year-old hotel. However, nothing inside the hotel or the room showed its age. The room was very modern and spotlessly clean. There was free wifi for two devices and it worked well. It is well located, with a short walk to everything. Pier 21 was just minutes away. The boardwalk was right out back and there were plenty of bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk of the hotel. It would be super convenient if you are arriving or departing by train, as the Via Rail station is attached to the hotel.

Yelp
I had read a number of reviews on this site before booking and those who mentioned it is a little off the beaten path are quite right. It is a bit of a walk to get to the center of the action, but this didn't deter us, Halifax is a good walking city and not that big. Arriving, the lobby was quite nice and the staff friendly. The room was clean and fine, but not to the Westin standard. Our queen was quite small, not enough room to put our two suitcases; we ended up sacrificing our own sitting chair. The carpet was dirty and full of wrinkles; clearly it needed to be replaced. Though they mentioned the "heavenly bed" I think they were talking about the fancy linens and not the actual mattress which I found quite uncomfortable. We were there over Canada Day weekend and parking did become a problem as non-hotel guests filled the spaces and we were forced to park on the street overnight. It was also very noisy and beer bottles littered the hallway in the morning. Not something you would expect in a Westin. All in all the hotel was fine, but not great, and certainly not worthy of the Westin name. I will stay somewhere else next time.

Julia G.

Yelp
Terrible customer service. Very disappointed with the way my request was handled. I booked one night at the Westin as I will be traveling out to Halifax for work frequently going forward, meeting was cancelled so I requested to cancel my reservation and a refund. I was advised that I would not get any money back. Needless to say no one else at my company will be booking at the Westin going forward and you've lost years of customer loyalty and revenue.

Michael R.

Yelp
There was recently chewed gun on a chair in our room which got on my girlfriend's purse. The hotel staff declined to clean the bag or pay for cleaning, even after acknowledging they were at fault. I live in NYC and am unlikely to go to the trouble to get $12 reimbursed but do expect the hotel to offer. Pretty weird for a nice hotel.

Yelp
Once upon a time in a previous life I spent New Year's here with three lovely ladies. We made jello shots the night before, and couldn't wait to put them in our minibar fridge. We arrived at the crack of check in with our treats, colourful high heels, teeny tiny black dresses and curling irons. We were 21 and ready to play. The fine folks at the Westin were just as friendly to us as we checked in as they would have been had we been older, more mature and not balancing trays of jello shots precariously on our backpacks. The rooms were plush, bright and equipped with all the things you'd expect from a fancy hotel. We pulled a Rihanna before Rihanna was Riri and ran that hotel that night, and we had a blast. The next morning was less fun. Four tiny ladies awoke with headaches, the realization that Halifax was probably out of alcohol and desperately needed breakfast. At the time we were more Aunt Jemima than local and organic, and we phoned down to ask if they had real maple syrup. Unfortunately, they did. So we checked out and got McDonald's instead. I've since stayed there once and the beds remain pillow-topped heavens and I have learned to appreciate their real maple syrup. You stay classy, Halifax.

Calvin H.

Yelp
I've attended events at the Westin and stayed when I've had company in town, and I really must hand it to them, they do what they do extremely well (I'm not one for fancier hotels, more a hostel kind of traveler). The rooms are spacious enough, if a bit plain, but nothing particularly wrong with them. The pool and hot tub are excellent, as is the food at events. If you're looking for a place for an event, this is it. If you're looking for an upscale place to stay a stone's throw from the action downtown and a very short jaunt to the waterfront, you'd be right at home.

Yelp
My second review of something other than a restaurant. Whoooo! I honestly couldn't wait to write a review about my stay at the Westin. My friend & I decided to treat ourselves to valentine's day themed event offered here and we couldn't have been more happy with our experience. I came here years ago for my grade 12 prom so my memories were a little fuzzy. Very elegant, clean, modern (yet classic if that makes sense) and welcoming. Having said that, having paid $300 for one night... you want all of that. Westin, you definitely delivered! Everyone might read this and think: HECKNO. AIN'T PAYING THAT. Hear me out! First, it was a themed package. Complete with a bottle of sparkling wine, chocolate-covered strawberries (not a little sampler of lindor chocolates), buffet supper, chocolate buffet, tickets to yukyuks and a 1 night stay. The chocolate buffet... omg... they had EVERYTHING. Cakes, mousse, chocolate cups with chocolate mousse and itty bitty fruits, chocolate fountain, chocolate brittle and apparently the tree center-piece was actually dipped in chocolate with chocolate "leaves". Sooooo amazing. The comedians were hilarious except one of the guests was getting roudy, loud and obnoxious and there was no Westin Staff to escort him out. The comedians handled him well though. The room was great, we were on the 8th floor and there just happened to be a snow storm going on so we had an awesome view! Would definitely come back, it was great =)

Yelp
We had the Christmas Day buffet at the Westin Nova Scotian hotel today and it was amazing. My husband & I took my sister and father in-law as their Christmas present, They enjoyed it so much that they requested the same thing for Christmas next year. Sautéed shrimp & scallops, sushi to order, carved roast beef & turkey, all the trimmings and then some, seafood display, salads, seafood chowder & soup, omelets to order, waffles, all your breakfast items, not to mention the wide variety of desserts, including a chocolate fountain. It was simply delicious perfection - all for only $60 a person which included tax, gratuity and parking. You can't go wrong!! No cooking all day, no mess to clean up. Book early as the sell out every year. No wonder!!

Yelp
Welcomed by its ultra grandeur lobby, guests of The Westin can expect restful and inviting accommodations. With reasonable rates and a thick number of offerings, booking at this downtown Halifax location is a sure thing. The hotel is suitable for both business and pleasure, with multiple banquet halls, boardrooms, posh dining, a fitness center and even a Starbucks. Its location is prime as well, located minutes from downtown happenings and directly beside the grocery store/ liquor store. Rooms have always appeared crisp, clean and current from my own experience. And with cordial front desk service, its all makes for little to no fuss. Downtown, multiple accommodations, friendly service, fresh esthetic with good rates- its all there.

Yelp
Awh, the Westin... Our hotel of choice when spending a night in the city. For those that travel a lot, no need to let you know that the Westin is in the upper echelon of the Starwood group of hotels. Halifax's location stays true to form and is a fantastic place to stay for either business or pleasure. We always stay here when we're coming into Halifax for a night of dancing and cocktails. The "heavenly beds" are a true wonder to wake up in and the double shower heads are sure to wake you up:) So despite "no free Internet" or "no free parking" (which by the way is typically only offered at hotels catering to the average business traveler or less) it is a great place to stay.... The staff are fantastic, and the views are great! FYI, if you book on hot-wire you can often get the rooms for 67/night.

Yelp
Booked a room through Priceline/booking.com. Was traveling in Northern California with sporadic wifi. 'Believed' cancellation had gone through. Was billed for night as no show. Called hotel and they would not refund money, or move reservation to our new travel date. Hotel told me priceline was billing me. Priceline told me booking.com was billing me. Booking.com told me the hotel was billing me. Booking.com rep, Grace, promised to call back with an explanation, never did. Instead got an email from a representative saying tough luck. Booking.com told me Priceline representative told her the reservation had been cancelled. Then told because I did not show up it would have come up as cancelled, suggesting I had not cancelled. After speaking with manager, Dave, at the Westin, it was tough luck! Had rebooked another night via American Express before this mess and indicated to manager that I would be canceling the new reservation. He indicated that would not be possible as it was a rewards booking, non-refundable. So they would be keeping money for two nights. I called American Express and explained my disappointment with the Westin. They OFFERED to call the Westin on my behalf. After their call the Westin agreed to cancel the second night. So now we know who has the juice and who should handle your travel plans, American Express! Stay at the Delta Barrington!

Yelp
The Westin on Hollis Street is a great hotel to stay at whether your trip is personal, for business or a special event. Along with the basic lodging accommodations, the Westin is also host to a business center, fitness center, room service, transportation, parking and yuk yuk's comedy club. The lodging is nice, we happened to rent an exercise room which had an elliptical machine in it for working out. We used it as a coat rack during our stay, but it's convenient for those who want to work out on the road. The staff has been good to me when I've stayed under their roof, and even though we were in a room with a bunch of girls making lots of noise, no one complained or told us to quiet down (which was nice). Hot Hint: Book a room for your birthday and pay the regular $179 for the first night and then pay what your birth year is for any additional nights.

Yelp
WOW! This place was gorgeous and amazing. The staff even credited my first night at the hotel since my flight got cancelled and I couldn't make it. They didn't have to do that, but they did out of courtesy. I would definitely recommend any place that offers that kind of hospitality. Plus, it's in a great location, within walking distance of downtown and the boardwalk, with great views of the harbor if you get the right room. Great place. Thank you Westin Nova Scotian, I will definitely come back!

Yelp
While I can't speak to the quality of the hotel rooms, I have attended several events at the Westin so it's this aspect that I'm going to review. From breakfast award events to lunches for various biz related things, to big gala events, the Westin knows what's up when it comes to holding an event. The staff are always super professional and friendly, food is decent for what it is (you can only so so much with banquet food..) and the space is beautiful. Plus the location is pretty rad and the building makes you feel like you're stepping back in time a bit to an era when going to a hotel like this was a BIG deal.

Yelp
Almost five stars. The Westin is almost a perfect Hotel. I have come here on various occasions and have always had a great experience. Their board room can range from small to medium to incredibly large. They also have a historic, rich, gold look to them. The food at the Westin is rather good but I don't go there for the food. Especially since there are restaurants nearby where I can get the same for cheaper prices. This Westin does have a Starbucks right inside which is convenient. They also have a Fitness Center which has just the right amount of cardio and free weight equipment, a Spa and Yuk Yuk's which is Halifax's popular comedy night club. So if you are only coming into Halifax for the night, you have more options than simply lying on the bed in your room watching pay per view. Their Staff tend to be quite average. This means you most likely won't have an amazing experience with them but on the flip side you won't be turned off by them either. Pricing can be around $140 a night at the Westin. But the rooms are very attractive and given the other amenities including the fact that they are right downtown Halifax, I think its worth it. There is a star missing due to average customer service, so there is room to grow. But the Westin is definitely one of the top Hotels in Halifax for a reason.

Yelp
The Westin seems to have everything wrapped up with a Bow! You have luxurious entrance with the concierge to assist you right away. The entrance has an enormous impact of what you feel the Hotel should represent. This Hotel has it all, fitness centre, Starbucks, Yuk Yuk attached, lounge area and a beautiful dinning room. The rooms are very spacious and wonderfully decorated. In additions to all the features the hotel has, you have the train station attached as well, if you are travelling that way. The convenience of being downtown, close to the water front is another bonus. The staff here are great, I attended a few functions here and was impressed with the quality of service and food.

Yelp
I have spent a lot of time at the Westin. I work in the non-profit sector, and therefore end up there for events and conference quite often. The food there is good, the staff is always helpful and approachable, and their conference and event rooms are lovely since the recent makeover. It's a comfortable place to be. The bar is good (best bar nut mix ever actually), although the last time I was there our server didn't seem very interested in helping us. The one downside of the Westin is the parking lot. It's in terrible shape, the spots are very tight and often there are issues with the automatic ticket payment/acceptance. Very frustrating to have to wait at the desk to pay, although staff have been quick and efficient. Overall I've been very happy with my time spent there.

Yelp
I stayed with a few friends and when we woke up our room was uncomfortably warm. We called down to the front desk to see if someone could come up to take a look and they offered us all free breakfast at Elements because of the problem! Not to mention someone was up to our room within 5 minutes to try and fix it. Breakfast was delicious and the wait staff were probably some of the nicest I've ever interacted with. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
The Westin is where you go when you want a luxe hotel experience that caters to you in every way. From the polished brass appointments to the valet parking, your stay at the Westin is top-notch in every way. Additionally, in a city where convention and meeting space is highly competitive, the Westin does a fabulous job at getting it right. Luncheon buffets are efficiently and unobtrusively put on, and tables flow right through serving themselves. For health breaks, the staff cheerfully put on a spread that would rival anyone in town. If you need conference services, the Westin is your place to go.

Yelp
We had a lovely stay at this hotel. After driving 12 hours through the night they let us check in early to get some shut eye before all of the wedding festivities we had traveled so far to attend. We realized our room smelled a little bit like cat urine (they allow dogs and cats at this hotel), and we are animal lovers so we picked up on it once there was some damp weather on day 2 of our stay... We called the front desk and they promptly took care of it. I found it a little strange that they did not refill our mouthwash/shampoo/etc. each day but am not sure if this is a hotel policy or just Canada's eco-friendliness. Even though the rooms show a bit of age, and it was a little loud (numerous weddings), the people were the friendliest.

Yelp
Lovely room, comfortable bed, but small bathroom. We were mostly happy with our stay. My only complaints are that you pay for everything, from your breakfast to parking to $6.00 bottles of water. There was a nicely stocked mini fridge in our room, but because it was so stocked, it left little space for our own food.

Yelp
Attached entrance from the train station I arrived on from riding the Ocean from Montreal is a super huge benefit. Gotta love that for no-stress arrival. As Starwood Platinum and previous Hilton Diamond guest I've experience the gamut of these hotels but I'm putting the Westin Nova Scotian up as one of the best in this category I've experienced in North America (can't include Asia in comparisons). The service I received from three seperate front desk young staff members was excellent, even from a trainee! Perhaps hard to understand for someone that hasn't frequented three hundred nights at hotels in the last 3 years but this is uncommon to say the least. One even reminded me I had a breakfast included in my rate which I can't see many other properties doing; my stomach thanks you! Also, both concierges, breakfast waiter and porter were fantastically helpful and very proactive when dealing with my requests. In rainy May it still did seem to be busy with conference folk but I was still upgraded in my two seperate stays to wonderful rooms, including a junior suite with giant shared balcony with view of the Citadel and square. My other room had an excellent harbor view. Also, super points for having an active social media presence. On their Facebook page there was even a cake they made with the different social media icons. I requested a Yelp badge :) Whoever you are social media queen of Halifax, please marry me.

Yelp
I stayed here for a week as part of a conference. The public areas are nicely upgraded with marble and reception staff friendly and helpful. The bar is small and awkwardly located as almost an alcove directly off the main corridor. But for $200 a night the rooms are very poor value. Old small, peeling paint/wallpaper, musty smell, old worn out bathrooms. Very substandard housekeeping. I found a sock in my drawer, an empty wine bottle in the mini bar and the sheets hadn't been changed. They did respond quickly to my complaint though and maybe this was a one off. But there are a lot better value places to stay in Halifax

Yelp
Location, service, cleanliness, and comfort are outstanding. Price is reasonable (try hotwire or wait for deals if cost is a problem). Self parking is 18$/day (22$ for valet). Nice restaurant on main floor. Indoor pool and fitness centre. For about $6 you can also rent workout clothes and shoes!

Yelp
3.5 stars. This Westin has great rooms but the front desk staff is off their game. I stayed here for 8 nights so those little annoyances add up. I am being nicer on the star rating because they allow dogs for no extra fee, which is something I love about the Starwood brand. The beds are very comfortable here and the blackout curtains work well. I called the front desk because I did not have a "green choice" sign for the door knob to earn Starwood points in lieu of housekeeping service. The front desk didn't know what I was talking about and they brought me up a housekeeping sign with time slots and when I explained again what I wanted, they said they weren't sure where to get those. Seriously? The person I finally got a sign from was the housekeeper (nice guy). However, unlike other Starwood properties, this hotel did not slide the vouchers under your door each night to use for $5 cup of coffee or Starwood points, so you have to ask for them? Seriously disorganized green program and the front desk doesn't seem to be too aware of what's going on. Even on check out, they wrote down my number of nights and said they would enter the green points later. Big surprise - that never happened so I had to call and ask them to put my points in my account. You shouldn't have to harass the front desk to do their job. Pluses-there is a pool and a hot tub that are open until 11 pm but both are pretty small and can fill up quickly. However, the pool elevator wasn't working so you had to go through the lobby to get to the pool which was a little inconvenient. I don't usually get room service but this was the longest I have ever stayed in one hotel so I indulged twice. The burger and the pizza are both pretty good and the prices are reasonable. The internet is $10 a day which is a bit steep when you are paying over $160 a night for the room, but sometimes you can get the free lobby internet for free in the room. Parking is $18 a day or $22 for valet. They seem pretty lax about enforcing payment for parking which is a perk. Lastly, be forewarned that you should not leave your window cracked open if you are going out. The wind is strong in Halifax and blew the safety lock shut on my door so someone had to come up and force the lock over for me to get back in my room. Kinda dicey! All in all, I would stay here again because the location next to the waterfront is ideal, but I don't think it's up to the Westin brand standards. The Lord Nelson looks pretty swanky so I would give them a try first (they also allow pets).

Yelp
Great hotel, good location. It's far enough removed from the action that you can get a good sleep, yet within walking distance is a variety of great food and bar options. The waterfront is nearby, so make sure to check that out. Rooms are clean, and average size.

Yelp
Ate in the lounge several times the restaurants schedule is a little inconsistent....however one time had the steak special with a salad and veggies....really good. The salmon tacos and a chopped salad with chicken another time highly recommended. The mussles also a really good appetizer.

Yelp
This hotel has one of the friendliest staffs I've ever encountered. Literally everyone I've interacted with has made me feel welcome, has been just the perfect level of engaging, and thoroughly professional. The hotel itself is a great mix of old charm and modern convenience. The views of the harbor are breathtaking. I love this place.

Yelp
Clean. Typical Westin, in that it feels a bit nicer than most hotels. I requested a water view, but being place on the 3rd floor didn't give us much of a view, so I was disappointed to have paid more and then not get a very nice view at all. My biggest complaint was that the hotel had no reservation under my name, despite the fact that I had numerous confirmation emails from them. It was a little annoying to have to show them their own confirmations. It concerns me that such a big chain had no record of us, even though I'd received so many emails from them. Otherwise, the stay was comfortable. The bed was nice. And the front desk staff were helpful when we had questions.

Yelp
Very good meal and wine selection. If you don't like fish, you might find the menu limiting. Service fell off as the room filled. Well over $150 for two people with a bottle of wine. Wheelchair accessible.

Yelp
Heavenly bed translates to old and sagging. Most uncomfortable bed we've slept on. The old building means old systems. The A/C is not controllable and we couldn't get it cool at all. 27 degrees Celsius all night long. We will never stay here again. They say high end hotel so they can charge high end prices. They should put some money back in and invest in better A/C and newer beds. We had a drink in the bar and the glasses were very dirty.

Yelp
Nice lobby hotel! My room happened to be dated and old. Nonfunctional bathroom shower and slow drain tub. Front desk staff declined to change the room. Sent the maintenance guy instead. He was as useless as the front desk guy. I will take my business to Hilton and Sheraton next time.
