Where to Eat, Stay, and Play in Ottawa, Canada

"The Westin Ottawa caters largely to business travelers, but the well-located property is a pragmatic option with floor-to-ceiling windows that offer sweeping views of parliament and a surprisingly tasty room service menu."

We loved this hotel. Our first time in Toronto and we’ll be staying here when we come back! Staff were super friendly and checked us in quickly. We had a lake view room which was absolutely gorgeous and were in one of the recently renovated rooms in the South tower. Bed was huge and very comfortable. Bathroom huge with lovely shower. Robes and slippers supplied and toiletries nice. Loads of space to put our own items. Hotel right on the harbour by the ferry terminal if you want to go over to the islands. We walked along the harbour most evenings and it’s a lovely walk - plenty of people out and about enjoying the bars and restaurants or just sitting in the park. Sugar beach is about a ten minutes walk walk away. It’s also about twenty minutes from the financial district and the same to the Roger’s Centre/CN Tower. We ate in the room once. Food was as good - slightly delayed taking the tray away again (we had to ask at reception for it to be moved the next morning) but it arrived quickly and was hot. Cleaning service was thorough and professional.

Conveniently located downtown, a 10 minute drive the VIA Rail. Check-in was quick and efficient. I really appreciated being asked for my Marriott Bonvoy Member number and receiving a room upgrade—such a nice touch. It was my first time seeing a digital system outside the elevator to access floors. Great security feature! The pictures look exactly like the website. My room has a beautiful view of the Rideau Canal, is bright and spacious with a super comfortable king-sized bed. Room service arrived in just 10 minutes with generous portions, and I was especially thankful for the unexpected glass of water that came alongside my pop. The delivery person was friendly and professional. The bathroom was a standout—the elevated shower and powerful showerhead were a dream, and the White Tea bath and body products smelled amazing without being overpowering. My skin felt clean and moisturized after. The linens were soft and cozy, and I’ll definitely be heading to the website to buy the pillows! I also loved the thoughtful touch of my name on the TV when I turn it on and the Sleep Well Lavender Balm on the bedside table. Checking out was just as seamless as checking in. If or when I come back to Ottawa, The Westin is my top choice to stay in. An excellent stay from start to finish.

They care, they really care, about the guest experience. Clean wonderful rooms. And the BEST computerized elevator system I’ve ever seen. Parking is inexpensive - $30 for 24 hours - and the garage easily accessed on the reception floor. And of course there could not be a better location in Ottawa.

Horrific experience today, I left me earphones in the safe, locked at check out realized 3 hours into my drive home. Called hotel and was informed they would have security check on items. I was Informed housekeeping would be the one to return items. No return call so called for second time informed again that the items could not be found. I stated I have 2 witnesses that the items were locked in the safe and could I speak to security who attended the room this was denied. But finally given the email for security and phone number post hours of zero response and still denying items never found. Left message for security they did call back and this department confirms yes we have your items. Called back housekeeping and they provide a third party response that I had to fill out the information and they would return items but contacted by this website 12 hours later told again they still cannot find items? Again call back security and confirmed items found call back for the 5th time to have this rectified only to again fill out the webpage. So post Spending $1000 on the hotel for 4 nights they now want an additional $48 to mail it back. Wow checked with Canada post and they informed it would cost $4.43. Really Westin this is unacceptable.

Google
A really good hotel experience for my family and I. The rooms are nice, staff was friendly and helpful and the pool area was great. The only bad things I found were that the bathroom was quite small for the size of the hotel room. They give you one ply toilet paper (small detail but for a fairly upscale hotel it's a big oversight). The underground parking uses another company that you have to register your car with to park there, it's probably posted when you drive in but is easily overlooked and also was not mentioned by the check in clerk. Also it is downtown so it's quite busy getting in to the parking area. Overall though it was an excellent hotel stay.

My first impressions of this were much higher. I was contacted by a concierge a couple days before my arrival and was asked if we wanted some extra towels or an extra robe. I said yes to both. I also asked if a free upgrade was possible. They said they would add that request to my file. When I arrived, I opted for the valet parking, because we needed in/out privileges. Walking into the hotel, the lobby is beautiful. Lots of comfortable places to relax. The line was quite short and was promptly waived over for check in. I typically mention the free upgrade possibility when I check in but I thought, no need since they added it to my file. Upon arriving at the room, I noticed it was pretty nice. But it was the exact room I booked. No upgrade. I immediately looked at the towels and the robe and noticed all these things they wanted to give, weren't there. Basically they reached out and it was for nothing. The room was decent. Not amazing. I would have preferred a higher room than floor 13, but this was apparently the best they could do for a quiet weekend. Quite disappointed. The bathroom was nice. Standard features but it was nice they put a shaving, sowing kit and a bunch of other small amenities so you don't have to request them. However, other toiletries in the bathroom weren't replenished. The ice machine was broken for the entire weekend. I mentioned it to 3 people. The valet had our room # wrong. My wife said the gym was decent. We tried out the pool and hot tub but the pool was freezing cold. This was a massive let down as my child was really looking forward to the pool. On the other hand, the shower was scalding hot. The bed is super comfy, the staff are nice, very clean and modern, the elevator system is so quick, connected to the Rideau Center Mall, good views, breakfast buffet is fantastic, but $100 for 2 adults and a child. We loved the lavender rub to help aid sleep. Nice touch. The area is pretty good because it's near iconic sites, but the amount of individuals experiencing homelessness was quite a bit. No issues of course but it was surprising. Short walks to Parliament, Byward Market, Royal Canadian Mint and many other iconic spots. Will stay elsewhere when we're in Ottawa next time. The location was good, rooms were decent but the service and attention to detail is what hurts this hotel. 3/5. ⭐⭐⭐

The Westin is in an excellent location in the Centre of Ottawa next to Canal and Parliament. We had a large room with a view of Parliament and the heart of Ottawa. The room has a safe, fridge, and the usual amenities of a superior hotel. I found the bed comfortable but a bit soft for my taste although my spouse oved it. The room lighting is subdued and the sliding door to the bathroom sticky but overall we were very happy.||Breakfast buffet is simply superb and with a great view as well. Dinner at The Shore Club is also great with a menu of meals cooked for you and the service is excellent.||The pool is OK but the ladies room is not easily accessible. The hot tub was just warm when we were there.||All in all an expensive stay but worth it and highly recommended.

Google
The location is great, walking distance to a number of attractions including the Parliament Hill. The 3rd floor is connected to the Rideau Centre, which also translates to accessibility. It's probably an old establishment so the rooms are just okay. The views are either rooftop or parliament building, so you know what to ask if there's a choice. ;) There are only 4 elevators which makes wait time a bit tricky especially if there is a conference going on.

Yelp
The elevators in this place suck ass. Want to get somewhere in a reasonable period of time? Then don't stay at the Westin.

Yelp
Never disappointed with the Westin. Great location, easy check in, clean comfortable rooms and accommodating staff. We book here tonceleb our 36th anniversary. We were surprised to find a bottle of bubbly, chocolate covered strawberries and macaroons. We love Ottawa and The Westin. we will be back soon!

Yelp
Manager was rude and disrespectful, after being unable to accommodate us after we booked in advance 2 rooms for 6 nights she told us "if you've ever been to a hotel before you would know this is how it works"

Yelp
Very nice hotel located across from the Rideau Canal and Parliament. We had some difficulty getting into the main entrance because of all the street closures due to the truck convoy protests happening a block away. We ended up doing valet parking (since we couldn't find the entrance to the parking garage) and Mohamed was wonderful. He was so patient and answered our 50 questions :-) The front desk clerk was nice and helpful. The room she assigned us did not have the floor to ceiling windows that we requested so we went back downstairs and another clerk assigned us with our requested room type with a perfect view (out of the floor to ceiling windows) of the Parliament building. The room was ok but the toilet didn't flush properly so an engineer came to the room to fix it. The bed also looked like someone had been sleeping in or on it . Definitely not that crisp, tightly made up bed I'm accustomed to seeing. But it was nice and comfortable.

Yelp
I am providing this negative review of this well-regarded hotel to highlight one big issue with respect to a businesses that it partners with to provide booking services -- namely Priceline, a company with a 95% negative rating on its own website! Why does the Westin partner with a highly dishonest company like this when it completely lacks any integrity. Because they do bookings with this disreputable place, I am calling them out. While trying to book a room at the Westin hotel in Ottawa, I was unknowingly redirected to Priceline where I completed the transaction. Unfortunately, I had to cancel less than 12 hours later due to health reasons because the reason for my trip was to say goodbye to a friend who was about to undergo assisted dying -- hence I acted hastily. The morning after booking my hotel, it became clear to me and my family that I was not emotionally or physically well enough to go!! To be honest, I couldn't really afford to go either. I absolutely had to cancel!! After i cancelled, I was informed that it was a no-cancellation booking, also unknown to me. I called the number provided and made my case to be refunded on compassionate grounds and exceptional circumstances. However, it became clear that they had no intention of helping me. They were purposefully deceitful with me and continued to take me around in circles, saying it was the hotel that had to authorize the refund. I spoke to the hotel and as requested by Priceline, I asked them to provide a waiver, which they did. The hotel also provided me with documentation proving that they had paid Priceline for the booking. Priceline had been paid in full with my money for a hotel room that I had legitimately cancelled. The hotel was no longer involved. And even after I fulfilled all Priceline's requests for information and documentation, they continued to take me around in circles. And even though I continue to be in poor health, I was put through an exhausting months long process with this company hoping to get several hundreds of dollars of my money back, they continually acted in bad faith and showed absolutely no intention of dealing with me in an honest way. Me, who became their customer, completely unknowingly, because the Westin Hotel in Ottawa agreed to do business with this completely dishonest company! As a result, I am out a significant amount of money, which I cannot afford!! My friend has passed away and everytime of think of her, I am reminded of my extremely negative and totally unresolved experience with Priceline and in direct connection with the Westin Hotel in Ottawa. I will never allow myself to be taken in like this again. I will call any hotel I wish to book on the phone and make sure it is an honest transaction. Priceline gives all reputable online booking services a bad name and a company like Priceline should be required to take better care of its customers. And by partnering with a disreputable booking agent like Priceline, the Westin Hotel in Ottawa is agreeing to let their good and valued customers be abused. Shame on them.

Yelp
Service was fine as their front desk was quick and polite and everything you would expect. I also used their valet service to charge my EV and that worked well. No delays or long waits like some of the older reviews I saw. The reason for the poor review is I got double charged by the hotel. I booked online and prepaid for the room. Then they charged me again for the room. Then their accounting department doesn't answer or reply to VM. So I'm going to avoid these guys in the future. Not worth the hassle. It's been close to a week and still no word yet.

Yelp
Stayed over Labour Day weekend on the 10th floor. First room assigned to us, the bath sink had lots of other colours hair in it. Yuck. Rest of room looks clean so maybe they missed the sink? Not impressed though. Went down to guest services and after trying to call housekeeping with no luck they agreed to change our room. Second change wasn't better. It was next to the original room so probably the same housekeeping staff. It Alo had some strands of other color hair and dust everywhere. I am guessing it's because less guests stay during COVID times but it would be nice not to sleep in room of dust since I'm allergic to dust. But by then it was 7 pm and my little one needed to eat and I was too tired to bother. Rest of the stay was okay but seriously not impressed. Bed was comfortable, pool area was nice, next day morning food grab at Daly Express was pleasant and tasty. But requests to service for extra towels and microwave for my baby took 3 separate calls over 3 hours to finally arrive. Only other mention is I seriously do not like the elevators. Elevators take forever during popular times. Inconvenient because you have to scan your card and choose the floor before getting in, you can't choose floors once in the elevator and it closes on you before you can get in. Seriously annoying Location is convenient and close to everything but not the safest to walk alone at night

Yelp
Very nice and modern hotel in a very good location. Most Westins are pretty nice and this one is right there with most of them but they get an extra bonus for the location. They are walking distance to alot of sight seeing as well as being pretty much right next door to a Mall. The rooms are nice and spacious and comfortable. The beds at Westins are usually the best and this one was no exception. The staff here are very very attentive and helpful. Door guys as well as the front desk. I was greeted every time I returned through the lobby and always asked if I needed help with anything on the way out. Definitely a return visit here when I am in the area.

Yelp
The hotel is in a great location and perfect for this visit when I was visiting my niece who attends U of Ottawa. I appreciated the upgrade to the larger 2 bed room which was spacious and comfortable. The beds were very cozy. However, the chairs in the room were dirty and should be thoroughly cleaned. Our tap in the sink was leaking but was fixed the same day that I reported it. I understand the no housekeeping due to Covid and I was fine with that for my short stay but I think some points should be given to compensate. The parking is ridiculously expensive. The gentleman that instructed me on parking upon arrival did NOT mention that self park did not have in and out privileges and I wasted money on this:( The walls in the hotel are very thin. I could hear full conversations clearly of other guests in neighbouring rooms and in hallways. It was very noisy! The elevator situation was on an entirely different level. Long waits, getting on and then being told to get off at another floor and again wait for an elevator was ridiculous. Then being taken on a service elevator through a room full of smelly garbage was fairly gross. This truly was not a Westin experience that I am used to and I'm questioning my decision to stay here vs the Sheraton a short distance away that was cheaper (even with points).

Yelp
I have a couple days of client meetings in Ottawa and my home away from Monday and last night was the Westin Ottawa. I've stayed here a couple times in the past. To get to your floor, you pressed you floor # and an elevator was assigned to you ... with the "L0L", I'm assuming the elevators had a sense of humour? The bed was comfy! Alas, no tub but the shower was big. I could see the Parliament Buildings, Chateau Laurier, etc. from my window. In the room, there was a mini fridge, coffee maker, bathrobe, etc. WIFI was complimentary and was speedy. Parking was either $42 plus taxes a night for valet parking or $25 plus taxes a night for self-parking at the parking lot which was attached to the hotel (which is what I did). The hotel is near ByWard Market, lots of restaurants, the Parliament Buildings, etc. ... plus it's Winterlude, which was nearby. There is a pool, hot tub, fitness room, etc. in the hotel but I didn't get a chance to check them out.

Yelp
One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Located downtown, next to Byward Market, this sky rise hotel overlooks the area. Great views of the canals, lakes, parliament, historical monuments, shopping, dining, and nightlife. The rooms are emaculate, especially if get one of the end rooms/suite. Hotel and throughout done with contemporary furniture. Great conference facility. They are also connected to a mall. Two dining facilities, Daleys and the shore club. They have you covered 24x7. Just a really nice hotel and conveniently located on the main strip downtown. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
I want to take a moment to give a HUGE thank you for Phil Lamothe who is the Chef Concierge at the hotel. Having worked in service industries for many years I can appreciate good customer service when I see it. We chatted for a few minutes as I do not have phone service in Canada (curse you AT&T) and I asked him for recommendations for places to eat. After giving me several good options, circling and drawing on a PAPER map and making sure I understood where to go he said... "You aren't from around here are you... Do you like beer? What is your room number I'll have a few cold ones sent up to make you feel at home." I have to say... I travel for work and it is hotel to hotel every week. This small act of connecting and service has hands down been the best experience I've had at any hotel to date. It always is fun to be in a new city but it sucks to be away from home and family and loved ones. It gets tiring and lonely. The hotel is immaculate. The rooms are huge and very nicely remodeled. Everything is actually seemingly brand new, TV's, beds, furniture and massive showers. The hotel is a 5/5... The STAFF is a 10/5. Thank you guys for making my stay a memorable one. Your Minnesotan buddy!

Yelp
Unless you want to ball out and stay at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, this is probably the next best hotel in Ottawa. The Residence Inn off Elgin is a total dump and the Courtyard in the Byward Market is a far cry from Marriott's finest property. I stayed here for 3 weeks while on business. The front desk, knowing this in advance, automatically bumped me to a Starwood preferred guest floor. (I only opened my Starwood rewards account just before staying here). Check-in was painless, although the bellhop loaded my luggage onto the luggage cart, then moved it into the lobby, but then disappeared before I had to push the cart up to my room myself. Oh well. His loss. Fantastic location. Very close to the Byward Market, Parliament and other major tourist attractions such as the National Gallery. If you're a runner, you're steps away from the path along the Rideau Canal and about 1/4 mile from the path that runs along the Ottawa River. When you come back from your run, don't be surprised if a staff member in the lobby offers you a towel and bottle of water. Classy. The men's locker room has a nice sauna, which I normally found to be empty. Outdoor seating area on the 6th floor sun deck with a view of the Fairmont. Indoor pool. If you feel like the gym by the pool with all the cardio equipment is light on weightlifting equipment, that's because there's a whole other weight room next to the squash courts. This was not intuitive. I'm a huge fan of the fact that they stock the room with Starbuck's coffee (Pike Place). Lastly - and I'm sure this probably applies to all Starwood properties - but I love their "green program" that allows you to opt out of daily housekeeping in exchange for an extra 500 points per day. Housekeeping did skip me once, only by one day, but they came up and took care of me after I called. The only downfall I see to opting for the extra points is that housekeeping doesn't stock you up well enough with three days worth of supplies. The end result was I had to chase down the maid just about every day for extra towels, mouth wash, lotion, etc. The only other thing that sucks in general about this hotel is the speed of the elevators. There are four banks, but over 20 floors so be prepared to wait as much as up to 15 minutes during busy check-in hours. Want to take the stairs instead? Tough luck. The stairs are only intended for emergency use, leading you outdoors with no re-entry.

Yelp
I stayed at the Westin Ottawa because I attended a conference at the convention center across the street. The Westin has its own conference facilities, although the walk over to the convention center is simple enough as there is a bridge that connects the two on the second story of the Westin. In order to get in the elevators, you must first tap your key to the key pad and then put in the floor you want to visit. You'll then be told which elevator to get in. I guess it's a good security measure to make only hotel guests get to the guest floors. The hotel rooms are really nice, and the staff are very friendly. The only aspect I could complain about is check-in. When I arrived, so did many of the other folks from my flight in. I guess we were all attending the same conference. The line to check-in was quite long. It took about 20 minutes, however they did handout water bottles to all of us waiting, so it wasn't really a big deal. Maybe just something to build a little extra time into your schedule to check-in before you set off on whatever has brought you to Ottawa.

Yelp
Love this hotel. connects to good shopping mall. Staff is very helpful. Very short walk to the parliament and other must sees. Rooms are a good size, particularly if you are traveling with a baby.

Yelp
The Weston is listed as a 4 star and uses best techniques for cleanlines. this was far from the case in September. we showed up and there was leftover food in the fridge and crumbs under the desk. clearly not cleaned. Even after cleaning after 1st night-crumbs still under the desk. The sofa chairs im the room were also stained. This is at best a 2.5 star and no follow up on these issues brought to front desk.

Yelp
I love the Westin, I really do. I love it for sentimental reasons as well as genuine five star quality reasons - I will share it all! The Westin has been an iconic downtown Ottawa Hotel for years. It may not have the history or castle-like ambience of the Chateau Laurier, but it has a few other features that may just push it over the top. For instance, it's connected directly to the Rideau center and the conference center, making it incredibly practical for work and play. The renovations over the years (while they may be been a pain at the time) have kept the hotel looking snazzy and elegantly functional, and it maintains all the key features of any higher-end main stream hotel: gym, pool, spa, restaurants, valet Peking, and wonderful guest service (in that guest that tends to call for little extras such as real cream for in-room coffee - they are happy to oblige). Hubby and I recently spent a night in the Westin - we had a gift certificate including breakfast, so we took a little stay-cation. It was WONDERFUL! Even though our room didn't have the greatest view (our room was free...) the room was really neat. Not quite a traditional shape as I'm sure they have made the most of the building, but we didn't feel like we had gotten the crummy option - it was really done nicely! Roomy, nice bathroom, all the amenities, and an amazingly comfy king sized bed. I loved the sheets too; so soft! I must say the blanket system was a little different (or maybe it's me): one flat sheet, a weighted blanket (good for anxiety), a second flat sheet, and the top duvet. During the night, I got a little tangled up in it all, but overall it was a great nights sleep. The overnight stay came with breakfast in the morning: it was a beautiful buffet with every option you could want. Everything I tried was lovely, but I will say that the batter for the waffles/pancakes could use a little tweaking - both items were a little too crumbly. Otherwise, it was all delicious and the service was excellent. They are currently working on adding a top floor skyline event space which looks like it's going to be fantastic. It's probably a little pricey, but it may be worth it - we shall see come June 2017!

Yelp
Using my SPG Cash and Points so I did not pay the full price for my one night stay during my Weekend in Ottawa. I love the location of Westin Ottawa. It is located in walking distance to everywhere. Parliament Hill is just right across, and 2 minute walk you at Byward Market where you can find all the bars and restaurants. Direct link to Rideau Centre where you can do a little shopping. The room with 2 Queen beds is well appointed and spacious. Love all the plugs in the room!!! Sadly there is no free wifi.... I am ok with that since I have my mobile data plan but for out of the country visitors that is just not acceptable!! Will I stay here again? Yes as long as the price is right! On site parking is not cheap but that's the cost of staying downtown area.

Yelp
We have been to Ottawa many times before but we have never stayed at this property. We stayed on points over the recent holiday weekend. Before we even showed up the staff was in contact asking what we needed and though the notes seemed canned their responses to my requests were anything but standard. The service and friendliness of their staff is what made this a 5 star visit. Upon arrival and throughout our visit they helped us store and retrieve our bikes from storage which was nice. Ottawa has one of the finest set of bike trails we have ever seen so if you cycle bring them! Our upgraded room with a view of the Parliament was very nice and having a refrigerator in the room was helpful. Though we got free wifi with our package I will continue to lobby that wifi should be a standard free amenity at all hotels not just the cheaper places. The upscale brands really rip you off with these charges. The location is perfect. Close to everything. Even the mall next door. Self park in the adjacent garage is $25 for 24 hours. We will definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Why do outdated hotels think they can charge premium prices? Instead of adding a ballroom to the top, perhaps they should consider updating the whole hotel period! For this prime piece of property one would expect far more. No light in closet, no shave/makeup mirror, no mini bar, nothing to charge your phones with, no computer stations, no full length mirror, no counter space in bathroom, no free wifi; nothing to make you want to come back. The lobby is completely useless for anything other than puppies and checking in/out. The elevators are stupidly designed. If you make a mistake in the floor you require; you need to go to the floor you accidently punched in, get out and start over. I will say however, that the service was awesome. They do try to accommodate your needs. But they can only do so much with what they have. Because the walls were paper thin we could hear the conversation in the next room word for word. One suggestion...if busloads of Leaf fans arrive, try to put them on the same floor. Parties far into the night are not what we paid for. You can also hear every door slam shut. There is technology out there to prevent this! As a matter of fact, we were promised quite a bit by the SPG representative, whom was quite pleasant, but what we got was far from those promises. Instead they tried to nickle and dime us and had to be reminded over and over that this was not was agreed upon when making our reservation. I do not like doing someone's job for them! There was also a divan in our room that needs to be steam cleaned or just thrown out. It was so stained I refused to sit on it without a towel under me. Gross! I understand that The Westin is under construction, but don't make promises you can't keep. Our promised view was not exactly stellar. All in all an unpleasant experience that we don't want to repeat.

Yelp
I usually have nothing but great things to say about The Westin, but there were some things during the this stay that made me take a star off. Pro's: -Clean rooms/bathroom was spotless -Comfiest bed ever!!!! -Spacious/large rooms -Late checkout, which I love! Cons's: -Construction/noise!! We stayed here for 1 night on our honeymoon and had a late checkout (4pm) on a Sunday. I have no idea what was going on but there was so much noise as if there was renovations going on above us. Drilling and banging started at 11am and lasted throughout the remainder of our stay there that day. Totally sucked!!!!!!! -Slamming doors! (Yes, there are hotels that exist where you cannot here one single door slam, I do not know how they do it, but they do!) It may be nit picky, but with construction, and slamming doors it got pretty irritating. Overall, I am not going to write off The Westin as a hotel that I would never visit again, but a noisy hotel is not a fun hotel!!!

Yelp
I loved this hotel! Despite the fact it's in Ottawa ;) the bed was SO COMFORTABLE. The front desk staff dude was amazing. He was like - do you want late check out? I was like sure? And then he let us check out at 2! Amazing! Fantastic location and the room was really nice, towels and shower and little kitchenette. I would happily stay at this Westin again!

Yelp
I recently stayed at this Westin for a company conference. I stayed in what they called a "Premium" room, I am not sure how it differs from a "Traditional" room. It was a large room with 2 double beds. I was happy with the room. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was nice and it also had a nice size TV. I did not try any of the other hotel services but check-in and check-out were quick and friendly. Overall, I would stay here again. It is located downtown, connected to a mall, so there is a lot to see and do.

Yelp
First time here for a conference. I checked out the hotel's website before arriving so I could pack accordingly. I noticed an indoor pool but not the hot tub/ spa.. I would have brought my suit for sure if it was mentioned. Great location attached to a mall with a food court. I went to the workout center twice during my stay. It was clean & well equipped. I had a view of Parliament from my room-which was pretty cool. I loved the hand soap, hand lotion & lavender roller products. I found a yoga studio within walking distance that was excellent! Overall I would stay here again!

Yelp
5 stars to this hotel. Very comfortable room. Strong water for shower. Huge TV. Affordable price. One of the best options for business travelers.

Yelp
I'm here for a two days business trip, so stayed with Westin for one night. I booked the 12th floor suite with Parliament view, not to expect that there is a museum right in front of the window, block the whole Parliament view. I couldn't sleep for the whole night, I can hear every step the unit above us, and no clue when they are always dropping something on the floor; the wroth part is I can hear a very clear and loud toilet flush noise every time upper unit uses washroom!! Won't be back!!!

Yelp
Stayed here for 3 days and was amazed by the hotel. Location is as good as it gets, 5 minute walk to Parliament Hill 3 minute walk to Byward Market, 20 minute walk to Gatineau and right across the Rideau Centre. Rooms -Our room was very clean and really spacious, the beds are extremely comfortable it was almost impossible to get up in the morning. -Washrooms are very bright and modern, and had a cool sliding door to get in. Shower was typical though, nothing special. -We had a view of the Parliament buildings! Absolutely worth the upgrade. -Free newspapers everyday and mini fridge comes in handy when you buy drinks (buy it from Shopper's Drugmart in Rideau Centre to save money!). -No free wifi in rooms, but the lobby has free access. Atmosphere -Business type hotel, although it's good for families too. -Pool and fitness centre was better than most hotels and really modern too. -Elevators are unique haha, make sure you enter in the floor you want to go to before you get into an elevator. -Everything was a little expensive, the wifi in the rooms, room service, the restaurants etc. But Byward Market should be suitable for your meals. -Really friendly houseperson! She said good morning every time we saw her and really seemed to care about us having a good time in Ottawa. Overall, I'd come to the hotel during off season because their prices are a little high, but if you can afford it you'll have a terrific time. P.S Self parking is a little overpriced too, so once you park your car it's $20 for 24 Hours but you're charged everytime you leave the garage, so WALK (Ottawa is a really nice city to walk in) or take the bus to go places.

Yelp
Stayed here for 2 nights for work this week, and I was impressed. For starters, the hotel is beautiful, and conveniently located in the heart of downtown Ottawa, and adjacent to the Rideau Canal. If you're active, I recommend bringing skates in the winter (you can skate on the canal, the world's longest natural rink), or sneakers/rollerblades for a stroll alongside the canal in nicer weather. They also have a great gym with lots of cardio equipment (open 24 hours), and a pool + hot tub (open 6:30am-11pm). The hotel is pet friendly, which is great for my because I always travel with my dog. My room on the 20th floor had a stunning view of the Chateau Laurier, Parliament, downtown and the canal. Very picturesque. What really receives honorable mention is the service. I have never in my life received service as superb as I did on this trip. Unfortunately while I was away I developed a sinus infection and was feeling quite awful. I got back to the hotel from work and dropped my car off with the valet. The young guy must've noticed that I was feeling under the weather, because 15 minutes later, he was knocking on my door, toting a tray with hot water, a mug, 3 camomile tea bags, lemon and honey. Also on the tray was a note which read "I noticed that you aren't feeling well. I hope that this will make you more comfortable so that you feel better in the morning, Daniel." I was floored, and certainly impressed. Being sick sucks, being sick while you're away on business is one of life's cruel jokes. This guy definitely went the extra mile to brighten my day. I mustn't lie, it's not inexpensive to stay at the Westin. My bill for 2 nights of lodging, valet parking and 1 breakfast, $604. But, know that you are staying at the upper echelon of Starwood hotels. If cost is a major concern for you, stay at the Sheraton (although I find it almost equally as pricy) or the Four Points Gatineau (located just across the bridge from downtown Ottawa). They're all decent properties.

Yelp
Great location. It's walking distance to the Parliament, canal, Byward Market and the mall. It was my birthday, so I was able to get an upgrade for $20 to get a view of the Parliament. The building is old compared to other Westins I've stayed at. The room is clean and the bed is comfortable. The water pressure is so strong even on a high floor. Service is excellent. We paid $136 a night after taxes and fees before the upgrade during July 4th weekend on a Saturday night. It's definitely worth it!

Yelp
The location of this Westing is outstanding. Walking distance to Parliment, the Chateau Laurier, the Rideau Canal and so many restaurants at the Byward Market. it was hard to figure out where I was going to eat next. I love that problem :) Service at the hotel was solid as most Westins are. I great comfortable stay. enjoy Steve

Yelp
I've stayed here many times over the last 10 years so I thought it's time to write up a review now. Most recently we had an overnight stay for the weekend and were placed in room 1902. Let me say the rooms here I have always found very clean and comfortable. This time was no exception. I didn't have a view of P. Hill this time but was facing the E side which was okay but the W side is of course nicer. Nice floor to ceiling windows let for lots of light in the room. Check in was courteous, polite and helpful. The location of this hotel is downright awesome. Connected to the Rideau centre and convention Centre and a short walk from everything downtown. Up the hill is Parliament Hill. Daly's restaurant provided a very filling breakfast for my family which was healthy and hearty. Expensive yes ( but this is a Westin folks not a Holiday inn Express)! Being able to walk into the Rideau Centre is just plain convenient! We love the pool area. So relaxing and fun for the kids. Salt water pool is nice and easier on the skin! *** Word of caution**** We've come here during Christmas holidays and there was a bunch of hockey teams staying there of young boys. Never again will we come this week! ****** *** Second word of caution, there are lots of weddings and conventions always here based on the location. Book well ahead. ***** Third word of caution, in summer it's usually $275+ a room.... Beware! Otherwise the best hotel in Ottawa for comfort and location in Ottawa in my opinion!

Yelp
We stayed 3 nights and absolutely loved our room. The staff is very very friendly and went above and beyond. The rooms are super clean. Plenty of towels, amazing view of parliament. But the cherry on top - THE GYM facilities!!! Omg. Second to none. It was like being at my own fitness club back home. They have everything and more for those leading a fitness/health conscious lifestyle. The housekeeping staff was tremendous as was the service express staff who went above and beyond. This will be the only place to stay when we visit Ottawa again. Bar none.

Yelp
Nice hotel overall, however some aspects were less than stellar. I stayed here for one night on business; first thing I noticed was the considerably better front desk service my boss received when checking in compared to the service I received from the same person behind the desk when checking in right after. My boss is 20 some odd years older than myself which I feel contributed to the friendlier attitude and service he received compared to me. Once checked in, I headed up to my room, and was greeted to a room that had a horrific smell of body odor throughout. I've seen other reviews on here where others have experienced this same thing; luckily for me the hotel was not sold out the night of my stay and the hotel was able to quickly move me to a much fresher room without issue. I would be wary of staying here again as this seems to be a recurring problem for this hotel and it would be a very poor time if you were to get stuck in a B.O. room without the ability to switch rooms. I'd also note that the room was pretty noisy at night, as water flowing and clanking through the plumbing/pipes was very audible throughout the night. Other than these issues, the room was nice and comfortable; however I will probably opt to stay elsewhere next time I'm in town.

Yelp
Stayed here for the second time. The first time was very good. Clean and a great location, so I was looking forward to coming back. Unfortunately after opening the door to my room I was bombarded with a foul stench of horrible body odour. The room smelled terrible, I called down the the front desk and they couldn't switch my room due to occupancy, so they sent a house cleaner to the room to try and spray it. It didn't work, called again and send they would come and completely clean it while we were at dinner, came back still smelled terrible. I was very disappointed with this stay

Yelp
Stayed here for a night out. I originally booked through Hotels.com. Parking underground is $20 for the day. We were quickly greeted by friendly front desk staff. I was offered to upgrade to a Parliament view for $10, which I did. I had told the front desk employee what we were celebrating, and when I came back to my room, they had left me a card and a small box of chocolates. Very thoughtful. Also, if you are a SPG member, you get some minor perks (in my case, the bottle of water was free in the room). The room was laid out very well, with 2 double beds, 2 comfortable chairs, and a spacious bathroom. The room was spotless and is incredibly well located in downtown Ottawa. You can directly enter into the Rideau Center on the third floor, which is great for the cold months. My only criticism is no offering of free Wifi - most places will at least offer it in the lobby.

Yelp
This is a four-star hotel that feels like a fiver-er. Excellent location near the touristy marketplace. Mattress so comfortable that I slept through each night as opposed to my frequent awakenings at home in Brooklyn NY. Concierge service is fine: ask for maps and brochures. Chambermaid fixes the room on request. Two computers in the business center are rarely occupied as almost everyone has a personal laptop. Breakfast is tops and is served 6.30a to 11a, buffet style, with lots of expensive smoked salmon. Discount coupons for restaurants are available at the hotel concierge's desk. Senior discounts for the Westin. Stayed here seven night and should have booked ten.

Yelp
Nice hotel. We stayed there for our wedding night and were upgraded to a beautiful big room. The wait to check in was quite long since there was only 1 person working at the desk. The room was clean and spacious. I wish the bed was a little softer since it feel pretty hard. Only other complaint is finding parking- tricky to find! I'd recommend staying here since the location is great and the value pretty good. I booked it through airmiles so I got a super good deal :)

Yelp
Had a minor hiccup while checking into 2 rooms. They couldn't find one of them but Elodie at the front desk made everything go smooth. She was very nice and courteous and assured me that everything was going to be fine. She was able to get both rooms on the same floor. A couple of days before our trip, I sent the hotel a Facebook message and they acknowledged and accommodated my request. Just perfect!! Thank you Elodie for being so kind!

Yelp
I never thought I'd one day be disappointed about a stay at the Westin but my recent experience here proved me wrong. Situated perfectly in between the Byward Market and downtown, and attached to the Rideau Center, the location of this hotel is amazing. Unfortunately, the amazingness stopped there. We arrived around 1pm with our group of friends and were quickly charged a $35 extra fee per room because we requested rooms on a high floor (huh???). The check in process was frustrating - we had booked a deal via their website (book one room and get the other 50% off) but the lady checking us in had no idea about what this deal was or how to apply it to our account. Once we finally got the keys and went up to our rooms (16th floor), the views were beautiful overlooking Parliament Hill. Unfortunately that's where my positive comments end. The bed had hair in it from what I assume what the previous guests, the bottles of shampoo and conditioner were more than half empty (recycled from the previous guests?), the bench provided near the TV was broken, etc etc etc. For it being a Westin, I expected much more in terms of finishing in the room and final touches for your guests. Pretty disappointed to be honest. For $200 a night in Ottawa, you can get much better quality elsewhere. Can't say that I'll be back sadly!

Yelp
Staying here now. The hotel is beautifully appointed BUT in my opinion just too expensive for what you get. I'm getting tiered with this new trend of hotels charging for every. little. thing. I'm paying $300 a night for one of their more basic rooms. No bathtub but a nice view out over the city kind of thing. For $300 a night I really expect some of the essentials to be included. Internet for one is NOT included, I was asked to pay $16 a day to get it. You can access it for free in the lobby if that's sufficient but not in the rooms. The bathroom soaps are nasty cheap - the kinds that leave your hands dry, so I went to the pharmacy in the adjoining mall to buy my own. Also just a bottle of water would be nice! So simple but of course they make you order one for $6. Breakfast is hideously expensive. I paid over $30 this morning for sausage, eggs and coffee - it was huge but I can't eat all these big portions so most of it went in the trash. If there was a hotel chain that offered me free unlimited internet, a welcome bottle of water on arrival (maybe with a fountain for refills by the ice machine), a coffee and pastry for breakfast. I'd be loyal for life! and all this crap they tell you on arrival about saving the environment by avoiding housekeeping is just crap! I don't get housekeeping in any case because I hate people re-arranging my room. But let's get serious - they're only trying to avoid cleaning your room to save even more money!!!

Yelp
Fake smiling people who work there, clean room, charge for everything, that about sums up all the Starwood hotels I know. It's the most disappointing when the bed wasn't as comfortable as I remembered it, and the bathroom toiletries were extremely lacking. One shampoo and one conditioner and a bar of soap that I had to move between the shower and the sink. Really? At over $300 a night you can't give me shower gel or free Internet? $16/day for Internet...you must be kidding. Conference room? Even worse. $500 a day gives you complimentary wifi, but not if you need ethernet. "The initial set-up fee is $350 per line if you need ethernet connection" when all they had to do was get your MAC address.......$350 for a guy to come in and write your MAC address down. WOW. Okay, fine, the location is great and overlooks Parliament Hill, but on principle, I feel like this is crazy. But I guess if this hotel is only catering to the business men whose giant corporations are paying for this, maybe it's okay.

Yelp
The best part of the Westin Ottawa is the rooms. I had a suite on the 20th floor with an amazing view of Parliament, the Chateau Laurier, and the Rideau Canal. Overall the room is an easy 5/5, with some of the best hotel beds, bedding, bathrooms, toiletries, and general room features anywhere. The Westin also has very good services from the top-down. They have a best rate guarantee which let me get a room basically 1/2 off during my last stay. I had no hassle about this and the discount was on my bill at the end of the stay (just read there website to make sure you go about it by the book). The staff in the lobby is uniformly helpful for giving directions, tips, and they also have nice extras like tea or apples, etc., from time to time. The gym is also great if you are looking for a treadmill or elliptical. The pool and hot-tub apparently are so-so. Location-wise, the hotel is right in the centre of the action in Ottawa, close to many sites, Byward Market, and attached to a big mall (Rideau Centre). On the downside, there are 4 elevators for the entire massive hotel so you can be stuck waiting quite a bit. There were many trips up to the 20th floor where we stopped on every 2nd floor. Painful. Also, they have wi-fi but the connection was horrible the entire week I stayed there, and several colleagues found the same problem. If you are paying $16 a day for wi-fi, it ought to be good. I would stay there again, but the Westin is best suited for business travellers.

Yelp
This place is cold - right down to the cold glass table surfaces. The wifi signal barely works at the best of times, and often disappears. It's too slow for much more than light work. A real disappointment for a couple working while at a conference. Cell phone signal is inconsistent as well. The room we got has a lovely bay window.... and immediately in front of it is a magnificent 12 foot wall. If you stand at it, and look directly upwards, you can almost see the sky! The only saving grace is the location; connected to a bustling mall and very close to the Parliament buildings.

Yelp
First notch service throughout and even more so after a mishap! My spouse was a presenter at the recent joint OAA - RAIC Festival of Architecture conference. So we were booked for only one night. However, upon inquiring about moving to a more moderately priced accommodation we came to the conclusion it wasn't worth the hassle. So we stayed on another night and what a great decision it was. Many businesses use meaningless flowery adjectives to promote their products or services. In the case of Westin, the term: heavenly is not an exaggeration. It's not often one can say that their first nights' sleep and subsequent nights on a hotel bed was equal to if not better than their own bed. Which is most definitely the case with a Westin Heavenly bed. Also true of their thick, plush towels and accompanying toiletries. All of this was enhanced by the spaciousness of our immense room, which was hard to leave. The real test of service is when something goes awry and what is done for a guest to make things right. As we returned to our room on our second night both our room cards denied us entry. Leaving us no choice but to head back to the front desk. Barely after descending one floor the elevator came to an abrupt and disconcerting halt. Immediately after pressing the emergency/intercom button a Westin staff member came on to reassure us that engineering would be working on it and service would be restored shortly. True to his word the elevator came back to life a few minutes later. Once we got downstairs that same staff member was waiting by the elevator doors to make sure we were all right. He then proceeded to correct the issue with our key cards. Asked us if we were covered for breakfast the next morning, we replied in the negative and were immediately given two complimentary breakfast buffets to make up for the mishaps. That same staff member than insisted on accompanying us on the elevator ride back up to our room to make sure the cards were working as they should. An effort that went beyond our expectations represents top-notch service and not one we are likely to forget for a long time. This was followed up by a personal email from the front desk manager only hours after we checked out. Unfortunately, I can't remember his name but he and the tall front desk team member who dealt with us on Friday, May 26th. should be heartily commended. Apologizing once again in the email asked if there is anything he could do. In a word no, because what more could we ask for after such a fantastic experience? Am I looking forward to staying at the Westin again? Yes, Absolutely.

Yelp
Clean, walking distance to everything, connected to the mall. Comfy bed, lots of towels, nice pool. Friendly staff. No reason not to stay here!

Yelp
Excellent hotel with beautiful views on the upper floors. The rooms are large, quiet and comfortable (though I wish mine had a bathtub). Friendly service from every staff member. Great food in the restaurant. Thank you, Westin Ottawa!

Yelp
I have stayed at Westin Hotels across North America and unfortunately, the Westin Ottawa trails in quality and service. I had the opportunity to secure three different rooms on three different floors. One room (positioned near the gym) was adequately clean, equipped and had generally enough room. The next room (located on the 13 floor) was irregularly shaped, lacked a decent full length mirror (it was hidden in a closet) and was cramped. Although the room was clean and the bathroom reasonable, the shower took most of the space. Other complaints related to the positioning of the toilet flush and how far back the device was. This was quite uncomfortable. The final room was on the "prestige" floor and was clean, comfortable and well positioned in regard to noise. I can't really say anything negative about this floor, but you do pay for this luxury. Meals at the hotel were mixed. The breakfasts were quite enjoyable ranging from egg white omelets to a variety of cereals. The breakfast service was smart, kind and very prompt. The dinner meals were poor. Appetizers ranging from ahi tuna to deep fried mushrooms were lacking in taste and quality. The tuna actually felt a bit "off" and some described it as fishy. The meal did have ample selection of wines and they were poured with precision. Main courses were generally mixed with chicken and sauteed onions being the big disappointment. Soups and salads were below average and not worth trying. The hotel was in a great location and certain rooms had great skyline views. I would say that I have experienced better Westins and can't recommend a stay at this time.

Yelp
We booked one night. At about midnight there was a knock at the door, then someone opened the door. The larch caught the door. I called the front desk and they said the maintenance man went to the wrong room. At MIDNIGHT, REALLY. The next morning I spoke with the manager and he said they set a colleague to check if the room was vacant. Why didn't they try calling the room. Very poor customer service as we didn't even get and apology.

Yelp
We stayed for the weekend during the Live Smart Way Expo. We arrived Friday afternoon and check-in was fairly easy. The reason why I'm saying "fairly" is that if you book with a travel agent make sure the information they use to register you is in fact you and with all the information they need at concierge. You then have an option to receive a $5 voucher for breakfast if you opt out of the automatic maid service. Now you can still receive it but would have to call down and ask for it when you need it it. It's their way of being somewhat "green". The rooms were very spacious and the beds are very comfy along with the pillows. Normally I can't sleep well in hotels but you get what you pay for. Complimentary Starbucks coffee and TAZO tea is available in your room and nice strong showers. Now if you're heading there with a big cargo van be prepared to park outside and pay the meter because most parking garages have a height restriction of 6'7". I know! The cargo van is quite tall. Great thing about the outdoor parking is that you can top up your parking through the parking app. This is new to me since I'm from Toronto which they don't have yet. I used Vincipark and decently priced. The reason for the 4 STARS is because we did not have time to go to the pool and spa. Also breakfast is very expensive with a minimum of $30 per person. Overall the stay, rooms, and staff are top notch!
