The Best Hotels in Portland, Maine, for Your Next Coastal Getaway | Condé Nast Traveler

"Thanks to a dramatic renovation of the former Eastland Hotel, the Westin Portland Harborview is now sleek and modern with spacious, minimalist rooms (many boasting Westin’s Heavenly Beds) and some of the city’s best views from higher floors and corner suites. I enjoyed the rooftop Top of the East on the 15th floor for panoramic vistas and upscale pub food, the contemporary American restaurant C2 on the first level, and convenient onsite amenities including a spa, gym, and valet parking that makes arriving and departing much easier in a busy part of town." - Alexandra Hall, Joe Ricchio

Westin Portland Harborview

"Why did this hotel catch your attention? Thanks to a dramatic renovation, the formerly dilapidated Eastland Hotel is now the The Westin Portland Harborview. The hotel is sleek and modern, with a top-floor bar that shows off great views of the water. Tell us about the rooms.Rooms are spacious and minimalist, with some of the best views of the city on higher floors (especially in the corner suites). There are standard amenities and, more importantly, Westin's signature Heavenly Bed. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi?Guest room Wi-Fi will set you back $9.95. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at?Up on the 15th floor, Top of the East offers panoramic views alongside a menu of upscale pub food. On the first level you'll find C2, a contemporary American restaurant. And the service? Service is professional; the valet team is particularly prompt. Any other hotel features worth noting? There's an onsite spa and gym. Also, it may seem like a small thing, but the valet parking mentioned up above is supremely helpful—it's difficult to find street parking around the hotel, which is equidistant to the Old Port and the West End. What's the bottom line on this place? The location and views are the real draw here." - Joe Ricchio

The rooms were pretty nice here... or maybe I've just been traveling in Europe too much. But the rooms were big and had everything we needed, including a complimentary bottle of water. Overall, the staff were friendly and nice but we grew increasingly frustrated as the day went on because we were told the person vacated the suite I was checking into before 9am and "they'd try their best to get us in for my 12pm (or anytime before the regular 4) as possible." It was my 40th birthday celebration and we had reservations and my family wanted to be able to decorate the suite before we headed out. In the end, despite us continually following up, we still ended up having to wait until 4. Seemed a little disorganized on this front but we worked it out in the end. Just had less time to enjoy the beautiful suite. Beware, however, of the awful host upstairs at Top of the East who ultimately ruined the end of my birthday night by being absolutely horrible to me, specifically. We wanted so badly to enjoy this beautiful space but were ultimately treated like street trash both times we entered. I will never step foot on the 15th floor of this hotel again. That said, I'd definitely stay here again - just during a time when I don't actually "need" anything from anyone and can just enjoy a place to sleep with a regular check-in time.

Better than your average Westin. This century old hotel has had a shingle out front representing Sheraton, sinister, Radisson, etc.. in fact when the main building was built, it was the largest hotel in New England! As a platinum member, I was upgraded to a corner room in the new tower, it was quite large, fairly well finish and had a pelaton bike. There’s also a courtesy car to drive you around town or to the Amtrak station or airport, which is close by. The workout room was good Hotel is looking a little worn and has his idiosyncrasies. For example, in the standalone tower elevator, there’s an ‘R’ button for the 15th floor, where there’s a rooftop bar in the main building. But it doesn’t function, this elevated doesn’t go to the 15th floor. If someone would just bother to cover the button up. Finally as a Marriott Bonvoy platinum member I am impressed with the full breakfast that’s included as an elite benefit, something highly unusual in the states for this class of Marriott hotel. Despite the hotel’s name, it’s about a half a mile from the harbor.

I am a loyal Bonvoy member and stay many nights per year. 9 times out of 10, I am thrilled. This hotel is TERRIBLE for the cost. I paid $655 for Friday night and $721 for Saturday night. This did not include taxes. The man who greeted us on check-in was cold and rude. I have never not been thanked for being a Bonvoy member and Marriott always asks this question. I was not asked if I wanted points, breakfast, etc. It only got worse. I requested extra blankets on Friday night and was told the request was completed. The blankets were never delivered.||The rooms are dirty and worn. I will attach all of the pictures. Chipped paint, dirty bathroom, random screw on the floor. ||The restaurant at the hotel has horrible service. Friday night it was empty but waited forever for food. Saturday it was busier but when we told them we just wanted ice cream (for the kids) and drinks, we were told our tickets would be at the end of a very long line. The restaurant manager was rude and later told us we were leaving out of the wrong door?! 'The very wrong door.' The only shining spot in the restaurant was Lexi. She was professional and efficient. They need to hire more like her.||The price of this hotel is INSANE. It would be lucky to be a $200 per night hotel. I am happy to pay upwards of $800/night for an actual 5 star hotel but this property is embarrassing. I would expect a refund.

We won a gift certificate for a two night stay, with breakfast, and booked a room for early November. So, even though we did not pay for our lodging, I will try to remain as objective as I can.|We took advantage of the valet parking, so that we could come and go easily, as we had a day trip planned, and it was not much more than the self-parking would have been. Friendly and efficient service; when you want you car, you text a number and get a text in reply when it's ready. Worked out very well.|Big room, but oddly it had a Peloton bike in the room, and lacked a comfortable chair for reading, etc. We did not use the bike, maybe others would have enjoyed it. Comfortable bed; rally nice bathroom, and a good shower. All of the normal amenities.|We dined down on the waterfront the first night. We walked, but a shuttle is available.|We went to breakfast on the first morning (a Sunday) and it was very busy. A little understaffed, but the servers were friendly. Service was a little slow, but the food was good. A pretty comprehensive menu.|After a long day of chasing lighthouses, we didn't want to walk to the waterfront again, so we went to the rooftop bar/lounge. It was a bit dark and cold; also somewhat empty. So not much of a vibe, although I'm sure it's different at other times. Huge shrimp cocktail; other small plates also available.|Breakfast on the next day was less busy, but still slow. Could be a kitchen issue? Food was likewise good and plentiful. The room itself could use a deep cleaning, however.|The hotel is nearly 100 years old, but has had numerous renovations, so it looks modern, with modern features.

Check in: I arrived early (past 1 hour) and Barbara the attendant was going to check me in when the computer system frozen and it continued to not work even after a restart. This technical issue was frustrating but it provided time to ask questions about where was what. She knew we had somewhere to be at 4pm so she said to leave my luggage with valet. I told her I have had a bad experience with my luggage being open and missing items. She reassured me that valet here wouldn’t do anything like that. So I said why not and gave my luggage to Bailey where we placed it in the staff lounge. The worst part was coming back from dinner, shopping, and church to find my luggage handle broken like with some kind of pocket knife. Jahfari the attendant on shift was an exceptional listener and empathetic towards my issue. He agreed it looked intentional. He mentioned the system was still not working so he kindly wrote information and continued with the check in. He did give us food/beverage credits $30 which was very generous however, we had eaten dinner and breakfast was already included in the reservation. I emailed management and they resolved it in almost 2 weeks due to the system technical issues. Thank you for anyone at Westin who helped understand my situation with my stay. Cleanliness: The room was clean and presentable. Accessibility: There is a ramp for wheel chairs or anyone wanting a ramp to the elevators. There is also a wheelchair elevator for the basement restrooms. Restaurant: It was pleasant it reminds you of the interior of a yatch. The coastal look is nicely presented and with easy going staff/waiters. Coffee shop: Inside with no street access and to the right of the entrance. Wish I had went so I could review. Gym: Didn’t go not enough time for one day stay. Standard Queen Room: Spacious with a view of the neighborhood and church. Curtains to block the cold or heat and window covers to reduce sunlight. Beds were comfortable and clean. Lavender essential oil for calmness. Bathroom had mirror lights for better vision. The shower head had rainfall option or handheld for more coverage. The shampoo, conditioner and body wash was citrus scented. Their was a hairdryer, iron, and ironing board if needed. The tv was humongous and thin ‘almost the size of a movie theater’ okay maybe not that big. There was a coffee maker in the room with Starbucks Decaf and local Coffee. Ice bucket for eyes. **The reading light on the left bed needs fixing.** Check out: There is a key drop off box or an attendant to assist. Barbara was knowledgeable but not very empathetic that my luggage was damaged by staff members. She believed it was at the airport…but it has never been checked in nor included anything heavy inside just clothing. I revised my pictures from earlier that day since I traveled by train and no signs of tears on the handle. I did have to pick up the bag arriving at the hotel steps and place it on the bellman luggage cart but there wasn’t a noise since this was a fairly new purchase. Please take pictures of luggage to prevent incidents like mine. Price: Early November Weekend—Saturday check in and Sunday check out was around $300. **There isn’t a shuttle to PWM/Jet Airport however, there is a bus around the corner that costs $1-2 or an Uber $11-13. The TSA took about 20-30 minutes on a Sunday morning. So arrive early.

This hotel was fine for a place to sleep at night and keep our belongings during the day. However, it feels lacking when you consider that it is a 4 star hotel. The highlight is easily the rain shower. The water pressure is phenomenal. The rooms are small and dated. There's a desk but no couch or sitting area. The bathroom ventilation allows sound to easily travel between rooms so don't have any sensitive conversations in/near the bathroom. The gym is outdated and only good for cardio workouts. In hotel restaurant has limited options and are barely more convenient than the nearby restaurants. Location is close to Old Port and Congress st but doesn't feel busy enough to justify its daily parking rate. You don't get what you paid for but it's not the worst hotel you'll ever stay at either.

I was here for a week for a work conference hosted at the hotel. My husband came with me and we had a great experience while at the Westin. Eli at the front desk was nothing short of amazing when we had questions. We didn’t have any issues with the location, and walked most places in the downtown area. The old port district is around .75 of a mile, so be ready to enjoy a stroll if you’re headed that direction. We never felt unsafe or anything while out and about. The photo is the view we had from our room 🩵

Google
Great location and stay! Don’t pay any mind to reviews about the area being seedy. We walked all around and never felt unsafe. Hotel amenities were great and the room was cleaned perfectly, thanks Dorcas! Breakfast was great as well and the front desk staff was so kind to our kids. Giving them toys at check in was a nice touch!

Yelp
Location: Is a little off the beaten path and bit of a walk to the waterfront....but not bad spot to be. Has restaurants close by if you can't do the walk. Rooms: very nice, clean rooms, great shower with rain style shower head and another handheld shower head, good water pressure. Coffee in room and small fridge for leftovers. Decent size room, comfortable beds with a nice pillow library. Amenities: room service, restaurant in building and roof top bar, coffee, tea, water in lobby, spa on site and small gym This hotel tends to be cheaper than the other Marriot properties in the area but is still a lovely hotel. Worth it to save some money. (Also has shuttle available if you ask ahead.)

Yelp
Leaving dissatisfied as a true Marriott loyalist. The hotel location is absolutely not as advertised. It's a mile walk to the Old Port area -- to avoid less favorable areas. The hotel committed to a shuttle but on Saturday night they did not run it. The bed linens & bedskirts has stains (strange given Westin is known for their amaaaaazing beds). In addition the valet damaged our car -- ripping off part of the the passenger roof rails. Once we noticed they filed paperwork but was a hassle to say the least. The lounge above has nice enough views. We were the first to arrive and our shrimp cocktail & 2 martinis took over 30 minutes to be delivered. Not part of the review but for travelers. This hotel is 2 blocks away from area where many charities support the unhoused population. There was loitering around the hotel.

Yelp
Good hotel with simple amenities, nothing astounding to write home about, but with a great location downtown.

Yelp
The hotel's location is great! I got to walk to the Highroller to try out their lobster rolls! I liked how nice the staff at the front desk were, the elevators were fast, and I stayed in a room with double beds. They were both clean. My room overall was clean and quiet. The closet had the coffee machine with Starbucks product in there and real creamers not the powdered ones. I'd def come back again.

Yelp
Great location in downtown Portland on High street. That means everything is downhill from there. Great valet service during business hours. I needed my vehicle early during one day of my stay and it was a struggle to find someone to assist. I especially enjoyed the infused water in the lobby and fresh baked cookies every afternoon-very nice touch. Housekeeping staff was phenomenal and very helpful. Hotel, at least the 4th floor and my room are showing their age and beg for TLC. This is not what I expect when I stay at a Westin property. Chipped veneer, ripped carpet seams and wallpaper beginning to peel. Nice gym featuring peloton bikes and good spa. Spa is located under the kitchen, lots of banging, little relaxation.

Yelp
This is a difficult property to review. The interior of the hotel is great. Clean, well staffed, restaurant offered a lovely breakfast. Valet parking easy. The issue and it is an issue is that there are more homeless outside this building than Manhattan. Homeless arguing outside. Homeless at the YmCA behind the property. Homeless stopping cars to panhandle in the park below the property. Let me make this clear, I will never stay in this location again unless Portland cleans up this problem. It isn't safe. In my America I can vote with my feet and wallet and travel where I feel safe. This needs a police presence.

Yelp
Let me start off with all the great things about this hotel, then I'll get to my justification for 3 stars. 1. Staff is great. Very courteous and always ready to help. Even made friends with housekeepers. They were incredibly kind. 2. Everything is very clean. 3. Room was comfortable. No complaints there. 4. Hotel has lots of conference room space and a beautiful ballroom area. No let's get to the reason for only 3 stars. 1. Location. This hotel is nestled up a couple blocks from the waterfront area. Sure, everything is fairly walkable or a quick drive away, but there's a considerable distance from where the other hotels are. Plus I didn't exactly feel super comfortable outside in the immediate area. (Never felt unsafe, but not comfortable.) 2. There's no in-room microwave. Just feels like a basic necessity these days. 3. No hotel provided breakfast. Sure, there's the on site restaurant, but for many travelers, having a sit down breakfast with a waiter just isn't ideal. In that regard the restaurant just feels like a money grab. 4. The onsite cafe doesn't have regular coffee. At all. Stopped in a morning for just a cup of coffee and learned they literally don't sell drip coffee. But I could get a latte, cappuccino, etc... like really??? There's a tiny coffee maker in the rooms, but my options were dark roast or decaf and lots of tea bags. Nice hotel, but if I'm in the area again, I think I'd look for a hotel with more amenities.

Yelp
We left a day early, forfeiting $600 for second night. The area has a large homeless population that frequent the immediate area, and leave used syringes within feet of the hotel entrance and the breezeway to garage. The 12th floor harborview was hardly worth the extra expense. We opted to forfeit the $600 per night hotel and stayed in a $150 per night hotel and were in a safer environment. The hotel would do well to deploy one of their ample staff to sweep the grounds, and solicit the City to relocate homeless resources away from downtown area. We will never return to this hotel. A refund of second night was in complete control of the hotel...but not applied. They did offer a refund of the parking fee that was automatically added, AFTER they reviewed the timestamp of us leaving early morning the day prior

Yelp
Don't stay here. Waste of money and no value provided. For those with Bonvoy status, there is no club lounge. The restaurant at the top of the building "unfortunately, had to close for the day," the concierge doesn't come in on Tuesday. A much better location is Aloft or Courtyard down by the wharf. Probably less money as well.

Kathy V.

Yelp
Horrible Hotel .... Just plan BLAH ... And the HOMELESS are there to great you day and night! Terrible Food, Outrageous prices, surly staff, and the SHUTTLE service is a joke. They actually told me to CALL and UBER!

P G.

Yelp
It's in the ghetto, didn't know Portland Maine had one, but here it is. Booked through travel agency and this was an "upgrade" hotel...it's in the middle of a filthy "downtown". Homeless everywhere, we were going to walk to the nicer (touristy) area of town to grab dinner around 8:30pm and felt very uncomfortable so we turned around and decided to just eat dinner at the hotel. Rooms are nice, staff is very nice. Hotel itself is nice, just the location sucks. Would never stay here again. Westin hotels have always been a nice choice, but the location of this one is a huge drawback. One star is due to the location.

Yelp
The 1 star is for Lisa. We pulled up to the valet, we found them to have a lackadaisical attitude and behaved as if they didn't want to help us - 2 senior women. No one offered to help with our luggage or even offered a bell cart so it would be easier for us. After checking in, we were tasked with the difficulty of getting 3 bags up the stairs or carpeted ramp, then down a carpeted hall. Our room was at the very end of the hotel. The room was across from a stairwell and a service elevator. It was dingy and rank. Outside of the window were 3 large condensers or something similar. I thought it most possibly the worst room in the hotel. Enter the STAR Lisa, she moved us to a nicer room with a view, gave us a coupon for breakfast and sent someone to deal with our luggage. The hotel has too much carpet and too many stairs from the front door to the elevators are 3 or 4 sets of stairs; imagine being mobility challenged, using a cane and pulling/pushing luggage on carpet and stairs! The valet/bell service was abysmal. At one point I had to knock on their door to get them to come park the car. On my last day, I called for the car and bell service. After 20 minutes, I called again. No one ever came. We went down with our luggage ourselves to find the valets lallygagging around doing nothing. When I informed them 45 minutes had passed and they did not respond, we were told, "We didn't know." When I said I'd called twice, we were then told, "It was a misunderstanding." How is there a misunderstanding if you didn't know? I just bit my tongue and said, "I'll take my car now please." It took extra long for the car to appear and for our luggage to be loaded. So long, in fact, that we missed our ferry and only opportunity - this trip - to go to Nova Scotia! I will never stay here nor recommend it. REPEAT: LISA IS THE EXCEPTION; she's a star.

JT R.

Yelp
While the hotel was nice, I wish it was closer to the waterfront. We have stayed closer in the past while visiting Portland, and while we all love walking, it was just not a convenient location. Upon arriving, carrying luggage up the front steps of the entrance wasn't ideal. ( we didn't see a ramp) - The views from the rooms were pretty, and while the rooms were very nice and clean, the hotel's location wasn't the easiest to get around on foot if you aren't a big walker. Also, they had a garage to pay to park in. We just parked on the street, and it was so much easier.
google avatar

Yelp
In my opinion, a great hotel should be something that you miss when you get back home. The more that you miss, the better the hotel was. The Westin is definitely one of those hotels! Not our first stay here, and will not likely be our last. The Westin greets you with a pleasing lobby, and doesn't just let it go at that like many do. The rooms and the view are beautiful. Most importantly they are comfortable as well. After walking around Portland all day we were ready for a shower and bed. The shower was absolutely amazing, I was wishing that I had it when I got back home tonight. Waterfall shower with a nice wand to switch to. Perfect pressure and nice and spacious as well. The bed was absolutely perfect as well, so comfortable we fell asleep within minutes and woke up feeling great! I would have taken this bed home with me if I could! Not only are the amenities great here, but the staff is top notch as well. From check in, to promptly addressing any issue that may arise, to always having a smile on their face. The Westin has to have the best of any hotel staff that I have ever encountered! So if you are heading to Portland, don't even think twice about where to stay!

Kate T.

Yelp
Nice staff but our room was run down and dirty, with beat up dirty furniture, and zero fresh air because the windows were all sealed. It smelled like they sprayed the room with vanilla air freshener. Our room had particularly gross walls (photo).

Yelp
We were in the area for one night so we stayed at this hotel, as Westins are usually our first choice for hotels. Overall, it is a very nice hotel and the rooms are fairly updated and "almost"clean. I say almost, because we had an issue with hair on our bed. It first started with one, long, dark strand when we pulled back the bedcover and top sheet. We then saw some noticeable stains on the sheet, so we called the front desk for new sheets. The new sheets were delivered and we began the process of changing out the sheets. Upon removing the fitted sheet we found the horror of the hair covered mattress pad. (I have attached pictures). This mattress pad had the hair of a thousand guests embedded into it. I know there are options for mattress protectors which don't retain hair and are made of more sanitary fabric, as I own one. After removing the pad and attempting to replace the sheets, we discovered the new sheets also had stains and the underside of the bedcover had hair on it. We called the front desk again for all new bedding. We finally replaced all the bedding around 12am after spending over an hour dealing with all of this, and tried to get some rest before having to be up at 5am. This is really unacceptable. There is no reason for housekeeping to overlook something like this as they're making up the beds. Upon reading reviews, it seems that not so fresh bedding is a common occurrence with this hotel. I have always had positive experiences with Westins, but this was definitely a disappointment!
google avatar

Yelp
Always a good place to stay for events up around the PMA Or State Theatre. I am a gold member and I never get an upgrade here. Also this time it was a bit hard to regulate the AC. Either too cool or too warm. Otherwise service is always great.

laura c.

Yelp
Broken toilets and elevator. In a neighborhood with a LOT of homeless...a halfway house close by. Not one at the front desk at 6:30 am. Just a very bumpy experience. A positive -- the bed! Also good-- the free bfast in the restaurant.

Lee L.

Yelp
One of the better Westins I have stayed at. Received a complimentary suite upgrade and early check in during peak fall season. The concierge James was literally one of the friendliest and helpful I have ever met. As a lifetime gold (now Titanium member), I can say that he made a huge difference taking over 20 minutes to talk about places to go and providing context to other New England cities. Also had an excellent experience at the Top of the East bar that has sweeping views of the city and harbor especially at sunset. Our server Kristal at the bar was amazing and friendly, she really made us feel like we were experiencing Westin quality service at its best. We loved this hotel and will be back. Location is about a 10 walk from the downtown tourist area so very accessible and a nice area. Will come again.
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
Inside the Westin hotel was a very good experience. While the hotel appears older on the outside, my room and the hotel itself had an updated feel. Most important to me was this Westin's policy to allow pets without charging a fee - this is smart business on their behalf and much appreciated. I also found the staff to be very professional and friendly. There is a downside to this hotel that is beyond the hotel's control but relates to location. Next to the hotel is the Congress Square Park which predominantly serves the homeless population and I was inundated with requests for contributions every time I left the hotel. Worse, the car next to mine parked inside the hotel contracted garage was broken into and the glass sprayed all over my car as well. While this may not be an issue for some travelers it is a consideration.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
This was our second time staying here. It's a beautiful hotel in a great location. They provide a shuttle back and forth to Old Port so you don't have to keep trying to find parking. The rooms are great, the bed and pillows are so comfortable, and the staff is really friendly! Definitely a great place to stay if you want to be in the heart of Portland. (Both times we stayed here we opted for the Preferred rooms as they are on higher floors).

Yelp
Had a recent stay at this hotel while on business. At 12:30 AM, I was woken by a loud bang. Someone had opened my door, but luckily the deadbolt prevented entry. I was obviously upset about this, so I called the front desk. The employee was very dismissive of my concern. He said, and I quote: "this happens all the time". I could not believe that was the best response he could come up with, after literally giving a stranger a key to my room. The next morning, my coworker stated that the same thing happened to him, but his deadbolt was not fastened, and someone actually entered the room while he was sleeping. I called the next morning to speak to the manager. He was unaware that this happened but assured me he would call me back after figuring out what happened. Of course he still has not called after 2 days. Completely unacceptable and disappointing, from an upscale hotel. If you value your safety and privacy, I recommend you stay elsewhere.

John M.

Yelp
No stars for this hotel! It's run down the service is terrible. My car got vandalized under their supervision. I valet parked. My car and the window got smashed, and I've waited seven months for them to fix it. They constantly put you off beware this is not a great place to stay.

Yelp
I booked through HotelTonight on 6/17 & 6/18. The Westin double changed me for a separate reservation totaling 204.00. I contacted the hotel and they were zero help. I was forced to file a BBB complaint.

Yelp
Comfortable rooms, easy check in, clean hotel, and easy access to everything Portland has to offer. Bed was super soft with plenty of pillows. Breakfast was a little pricey though. I'd stay here again.

Yelp
I think this was a solid 4 star. The location is great, walk to everything. The lobby, and our room, were clean. It wasn't a stunning hotel, like a 5 star, but it certainly was not a 3 star. Convenient self parking is located next door, or they have valet. And the few times we ordered room service the food was solid. I'd go back.
google avatar

Natasha B.

Yelp
Came here for late night drinks. Left a lot to be desired. The bar decor is pretty eh. Drinks were just ok. The thing that upset me was that it was last call and they asked us if we wanted anything. We ordered drinks and then not long, like some minutes, they turned on the lights. We started drinking a bit faster cuz we got the hint but then some worker came and stood by our table and was like "thanks for coming" and just waited next to us until we got up. I had to chug my whiskey as did the people I was with, which is not the way to drink it. If you are going to offer last call drinks, make it earlier so that you don't have to boot people out like 5 min into a drink. Won't be back

Yelp
Deceptive business practices - falsely charged excessive redemption fees along with poor customer service. Could not get anyone to answer phone at front desk to resolve issues. After multiple attempts to speak with someone, the charge was removed. Be sure to check your bill. There are plenty of reports on the internet noting this deceptive practice at other Marriott owned properties as well. On a positive note, rooms were clean. Parking is 30 a day in a municipal garage. Would probably never return give there are plenty of other options in the area.

Yelp
The Westin Portland Harbourview is located in the heart of Old Port - Portland, Maine. I stayed here 3 nights and 4 days in July 2020. I was a bit nervous staying at a hotel post quarantine, but I didn't have anything to worry about since I was in good hands. As you enter the hotel, you'll see signs on the ground labeled 6 feet apart as you line up to check in or ask questions. They allowed two people in the elevator at once if I'm not mistaken. Before you enter your room, there is a sticker placed on the edge of the door indicating your room has been sanitized. As I walked into the room; everything was extremely cleaned and it smelled really good. They had the remote controller in a plastic bag. The coffee cups and coffee/tea accessories were tied in a plastic bag. I had enough towels that I didn't need my room cleaned. I'm guessing if you need something then you can call for house keeping - the set up was very different from pre quarantine and felt safer. Also I was upgraded to a room with a view of the city at no additional cost. I had an amazing view of the sunset. Thank you! Unfortunately the rooftop bar was not open during the weekdays, but don't be discouraged you can either order room services - I actually went to the lobby and picked up my meal. I ended up having Maine curried potato's with steamed rice. Delicious! The hotel is walking distances from lots of restaurants, cafes, Portland museum is literally across the street and it will take you 15 minutes to walk to the Harbor where you can enjoy the scenery and eat or take boat tours or hop on the ferry to Casco bay. Overall, I had an amazing time here and would definitely visit again.

Yelp
Hotel lost power which I get happens when we went downstairs we were greeted with nothing but attitude from elaina at front desk who said our dog was barking - thanks !! Maybe bc it was pitch black and 92 degrees in the room - sleazy hotel in bad area with horrible staff avoid at all cost possible.

Yelp
Westin "Harborview" Portland, ME. Beware this sleazy hotel in an unsafe area. Earlier this month we did a trip, cautiously taking our first since the pandemic began. Avoid this hotel in Portland!! Sleazy behavior at the worst stay I've ever had among dozens of stays at Westin Hotels although none since it was bought by Marriott.  I called on the Tuesday before the stay and requested an upper floor. That was important, I explained, since my wife was in poor health and we'd spend a lot of time during this (our 50th anniversary trip) in the room.  I was told I'd definitely be given a high floor.  Instead we were given a floor below the halfway point of the hotel's floors and told that's still considered an upper floor! Our view was of adjacent buildings since the room was below their level. The room needed repairs, only one robe was provided and no coffee maker. Sleazy again when I was charged a "redemption fee" of $67 and a one night Valet parking charge of $126 when it was advertised at $42 per night and I didn't even park there!! These charges were removed but I had to hassle to get it done. Sleazy neighborhood as the small park adjacent to the hotel was full of homeless and derelicts. This hotel is outrageously expensive and of very poor value. Don't consider this hotel for weddings or other groups because you'd have trouble visiting others. Among other reasons this is since the area is so unsafe you can only access your own floor from the elevators!

Yelp
Very nice stay. Thank you. Staff very courteous and helpful. Upgrade of the guest rooms in the recent past was a nice surprise! Hadn't been at the Hotel since the rooms were upgraded...very nice! And very quiet at night. Thank you.

Yelp
I visited Portland with my friend for 2 nights and we stayed at the Westin! Service was great and the price was extremely low due to SPG points. We had a double room with a nice bathroom and plenty of space. It's about a 15 minute walk from downtown and they have a free shuttle if you're too lazy to walk. We walked everywhere so we had fun and got some exercise as well. Valet parking was steep at $34 per night. We didn't check on parking garages in the area but we probably should have. It seems like this hotel is very expensive if purchased outright or through 3rd party apps. If we paid full price I definitely would not be giving it 4 stars. But for what we paid and what we received we were quite pleased.

Yelp
Hotel is fine. Do not go to the hotel restaurant for breakfast. Takes forever to get seated. Messed up our order. When food was finally brought on the table - hash browns are micro waved. Egg Benedict with hard boiled eggs???? Unheard of. We did not end up eating anything off the plates. Waste of time and money.

Yelp
Despite the name, harbor views are limited. The hotel is nice, it has a gym with two peloton bikes, treadmills, various machines and free weights. Restaurant/bar at the top floor is very nice, providing some nice views of Portland. Room was nice, but no view, which is okay, as I didn't spent a lot of time in it.

Yelp
A nice, centrally located hotel in downtown Portland. The best part of the hotel was that we were able to walk to restaurants and activities. The valet greeted us as we pulled up to the front of the hotel and took care of the car for us. Inside we made our way to the front desk where we were greeted by a friendly clerk. She quickly completed the check-in process and we were on our way to our room. The room itself was simple, but clean. Everything we needed was in the room including a coffee maker and a small refrigerator. The bed was very comfortable so it was easy to get a good night's sleep. One morning I ordered room service and everything arrived nicely presented and without a long wait. The top floor of the hotel has a nice bar that provides nice views of the downtown. I would definitely recommend checking the bar out if staying at the hotel.

Yelp
We only stayed for 1 night, but will certainly be returning!! Firstly, they are a 100% dog friendly hotel with NO additional fees for bringing furry friends along--what a relief for us and our pup Oliver! Everyone we met on the staff was friendly and extremely knowledgeable, from the people working the front desk, to all the restaurant employees and especially the valet. They gave us fantastic restaurant recommendations AND even had a shuttle that not only dropped us off at one location but even picked us up at another! What a way to save money on Uber! The rooms themselves were extremely clean. Amazing rain shower head which I loved, and came with a blow dryer which I was grateful for in this colder weather. Close by to the main section of Portland. I have to shout out the staff once again. You can tell they are all being treated very well by working for this hotel, and they love Portland with their whole hearts. From the positive encounters we had with the pup, to the mini-info session the valet gave us while he drove us around Portland, to the other dogs who they were clearly friends with in town, and all their upbeat and friendly demeanors. Can't wait to come back when the weather is warmer!

Yelp
Mediocre hotel at best. Service and management is way below par, and the hotel still feels completely underwhelming. Air conditioning in the room never gets cold enough (they lock it at 68F?). Wallpaper peeling off the walls. Keys stop working. And no wake up calls? "We don't do that, sir." Beyond bizarre. Oh, and desk outlets don't work. Much better hotel experiences in the area - avoid if you can.

Yelp
OK a 3 only because Barbara at the front desk was what every hotel manager should hope and pray that their ambassadors would be. She went above and beyond towards our small needs. I'm finding it disconcerting that this "Claimed" Yelp page has no responses to all of the reviews that have been made. So, I'm not expecting any responses for what I'm about to expound upon. We spent two nights here for our first ever stay. Everything was great for what we paid, which was very reasonable. Again, all requests were delivered in a timely fashion. However, here's my beef. At 4am, on the last night, we were woken by the fire alarm sending us to the street with whatever we could gather in our hands. Some guests had vinyl from the concert they attended that night, another the remainder of his 4 pack of IPA and us with our laptops and cellphones. It was frigg'n cold out as well. Come to find out after we were let back in that a drunken guest had pulled multiple fire alarms. So, our night sleep was ruined and had a messed up morning. When I went to the front desk later that morning to ask if we could have a little more time to check out because of what happened and that we got our stuff together late because we tried to catch some additional sleep, the response I got was what I'm pissed about. I approached the one who seemed to be the "Big Pants" of the crew and his response to my request was as if I was asking him to bow down and kiss my feet. His reluctant answer was you can only have an extra hour or you'll be charged for another day. There was no "I'm / We're sorry for what happened, sorry you we're woken by one of our guests who was drunk. What can we do to make this up to you. Nadda!!! Well OK, this one goes down in my journal of what I learned not to be in the public facing business. So, as they say, "That's it Folks". There are so many others in Portland that would love my business. Evidently you have an Ambassador who doesn't give a shit.

Yelp
We decided last minute on July 3rd to enjoy mini getaway in Portland. Westin Portland Harbourview came out as our best sleepover choice. The hotel is in great location, everything is in walking distance within convenient 10-15 minutes. The price for the room was little too high for our standards but it was late decision to travel so we accepted. There is no parking at the hotel. There is a garage parking available next to the hotel and is not included in the room price. Per hotel staff it's $30/night if you self park and $38 if you do valet. We used street parking that was available across from the hotel and was free on Sunday and holiday. Check in/out staff - some were nice and welcoming some were not so pleasant when we had questions about parking. Also nobody picked up phone when I called prior checking in, as well as nobody responded to my questions online/email. The room was beautiful! Big comfortable bed, working AC, giant TV screen, only one robe available , coffee machine with Starbucks coffee, big bathroom with a rain shower head (that is the top), all textiles snow white and clean. It was easy to hear noise from hallway and neighboring rooms (which was especially unpleasant at 1:30am). Closed rooftop. Dog friendly! (best thing ever meeting puppies for a ride by an elevator) Overall the stay wasn't bad.

Yelp
Great hotel stay. Covid protocols made us feel safe, service was friendly and efficient. Kudos to the 3 ladies running the bar at night. The food up there was also EXCELLENT I won't hold it against the hotel, but the garage elevators were filthy as were the overflowing and stinky trash cans on the 2nd floor landing.

Yelp
While the accommodations were quite good I wish I could say I would reccommend but I would never stay here again. The night staff were, for lack of a better description, extremely rude and disrespectful to our entire party. We were in for a wedding, with clear communication with the hotel before arriving. However, this information was clearly not shared with the night staff. We were told we would be able to stay in the upper floor bar/lounge from 10PM-midnight. When we arrived we were told it was closed, that no prior arrangements were made, while the one "higher up" manager was arguing with the mother of the bride, we were able to walk in. The bar staff were clearly unprepared to run a bar of more than 10 people. Very slow, the drinks were VERY overpriced, and honestly awful. I'm not sure how to can make a vodka cranberry terrible but they found a way. We were told we were being aggressive to the staff and it took the Head of Security (who was wonderful) to speak with the mother of the bride who showed him the email communication with the hotel, to finally say, "You're right, enjoy the night." Unfortunately, at that point, the bartender and "higher-up" woman were not satisfied with that result because she threw her hands up in a huff and left allowing people who were in a different wedding to just walk in. The bartender was much worst, he began swearing all around the event, throwing menus on the tables in frustration and overall showing very poor customer service experience that caused most of us to leave early anyway and relocate to a different off-site venue. I would rate much higher if not for this experience. The rooms were clean, the check-in and out staff were quite kind, the Sunday morning brunch was great. But for the first impression to be as bad as it was, it left a bad taste that was not easily cleansed through the weekend. Internal communication clearly needs to be improved.

Yelp
There are some pros and cons to staying at this hotel but overall, we were pretty happy with it. A list below: Pros: Dog friendly Valet parking Easy check-in Professional and courteous staff A shuttle to town and back! In the middle of Portland Rooftop lounge Starwood perks (complimentary drinks for guests) Cons: Kind of far from things to do in Portland, especially Old Port area The hallways are gross! Dog pee stains and housekeeping carts with dirty linens all over Smells bad in hallway and the rooms get humid and musty Overall, we had a fantastic stay. The gym is small but does the trick. The lobby is grand and beautiful. The staff are hospitable and friendly. The shuttle dropped us off wherever we wanted AND picked us up, it was like our own personal Uber!

Yelp
I've spent a lot of time at Westin hotels over the years and as a brand Westin usually does a great job - clean, comfy rooms in good locations with good customer service. The Westin Portland Harborview, unfortunately, doesn't live up to its brand. This isn't just me being picky, this was just not a good stay. LOCATION: The Westin is on the edge of the tourist/business district in Portland, but still just a short stroll to the sights and eats of the area. Head northwest, however, and it's more residential without much going on unless. SERVICE: Check in took forever. Two staff members were checking people in, a male who seemed to be fairly clueless about everything, and a female who was super helpful to the people she was dealing with, but failed to recognize that by acting as a personal concierge that she was allowing the line to build up. If you have a kid, having a king room and a rollaway bed usually allows for more space in the room than having two queens so we asked the male staff member at check in to make sure the rollaway that we requested was set up in our room. He said it would be done straightaway. An hour passes and there's no rollaway. We go back downstairs to ask for the rollaway. We go out for a couple hours, call about the rollaway, and come back and there's still no rollaway. Several hours and a couple phone calls later we finally get our rollaway. ROOM: Despite being SPG Platinum, we were put waaay down at the end of the hall in Room 732 immediately next to a service elevator and with a view of the hotel parking lot. It was great for getting to our car the next day, but not much else. If we were staying longer and actually thought the front desk would competently and timely respond to my request, I would've asked to move rooms. Alas, we were only there for one night and it just wasn't worth the time and effort to deal with these people again. Fortunately, the elevator noise was fairly minimal.

Yelp
We got a great deal at the Westin on short notice through Hotwire (nearly half off) so I felt good about this normally reliable 4-star business hotel. Other than the $26 parking garage fee ($34 for valet) -- in Portland, ME, really? -- there is little to complain about. The rooms are clean and spacious, with nice views of downtown and the harbor. There's a nice lounge at the top with reasonably priced drinks. We would have preferred earlier check-in than noon but that's not unusual. What was unusual was the pounding bass from a wedding party downstairs on Saturday night, well into the midnight hour (and we were on the 6th floor)! My wife, who is 6 months pregnant, complained to the manager, who offered earplugs. With more prodding, they did offer to move us to the 11th floor but I was asleep by that time and it would be a pain in the butt to move. We felt they should have done more, like offer us a discount on our stay, but they stood firm. I guess business is business, and a wedding party bringing in thousands of dollars is worth more than a dinky Hotwire rate guest (albeit an SPG member). I will also keep this in mind when booking one of many large conferences around the country in the next few years.

Yelp
Super-central location steps from the museum and State music venue and an easy walk downtown. But also great amenity of a local shuttle service, very useful because parking in shopping & dining Meccas of Old Port and West End is a real challenge. All front desk staff were terrific -- quick, courteous, efficient, knowledgeable and amazingly cheerful. Bright smiling eyes above the well-placed masks. Appreciated room touches like thoughtful lighting in bathroom for nighttime and above bed for reading, plus tech outlets in front of the desk. Coffeemaker, mini fridge and hairdryer in room. Rainfall shower. Excellent breakfast in lobby cafe, not cheap but tasty blueberry pancakes, sausages & Hollandaise, plus wait staff was upbeat and kind despite the universal shortage of help. Checked in often. Overall very good stay and highly competitive rate on their site with AAA discount, which included free self-parking. Score!

Yelp
Every year my husband and I go away for a week on our Anniversary. This year we chose Portland Maine. The Westin had the history I like with the updates for him. Arrival was ok, the parking garage which is a walk away is super sketchy with a urine smelling elevator. The back entrance from the parking area is not well lit at all. Entertains the hotel is ok until you get to the lobby. That's gorgeous. Tall ceilings with great decor. Nancy checked us in. Super helpful, such an asset for that hotel. Had a king room, the king was not a true king. The views were nothing, only 1 chair in room. No table. Stains everywhere. I didn't complain at first cause we just drove 8 hours and I wanted my husband to enjoy his time off of work. It wasn't until my third day, our official Anniversary. We ordered breakfast in. Room service is offered and one big reason why we chose this place. We got a pot of coffee and a take out bag dropped off at our door!!!! No freekin plates, coffee mugs. Syrup all over. No table to eat on. And!!!!! They charged us 50$!!! I called the front desk immediately, she connected me with the hotel manager. I was super disappointed and all he could say was.... " I'll talk to the kitchen".... Wtf!!! Nothing else! So they can have my 2 stars for Nancy and a nice shower head.

Yelp
Great location, clean lobby, however Mike Titus was the reason I didn't purchase a room here. Rude, sassy, and major attitude. He Didn't even want to explain what rooms were available and was extremely short. Please reconsider this mans job position.
