The Westin is well located in the center of the city, close to the harbor, and built on a small hill, so the view of the harbor is quite nice. The building is a red-brick, utilitarian construct, not much to look at. Inside, it is modern, spacious and well maintained. There is not much front door service, since the few staffers double up as valet parkers, so much of the time there is nobody at the front door. We got no help with our luggage, but there are carts travelers can use to help carry their suitcases to the room. The hotel is generally understaffed, also noted in the restaurant and bar. Some of the staffers could use additional training, especially in relation to attention to detail and basic courtesy. We found the front desk to be very good: the staff was very helpful and informative.. Signage throughout the hotel is relatively poor; you have to find your way by exploring. The rooms are spacious, with comfortable bed and pillows. We had an unwanted comforter, and had to ask for a blanket for better temperature control in bed. Lighting in the room was poor, but it was even worse in the bathroom. My wife had trouble with her make-up, because the light was all in the wrong places. The shower was wonderful, Although I had trouble adjusting the height of the showerhead. There was very good temperature control in the room. There also were lots of shelves and drawers. The restaurant was closed for dinner on Sunday and Monday, very strange for a "full service" hotel. There was a coffee shop (similar to a small Starbucks), next to the restaurant, but we found it closed most of the time, and poorly stocked with even breakfast food. The bar on the top floor has a great view of the harbor, and while it is supposed to replace the restaurant on Sundays and Mondays, the available food is suboptimal, especially in quality. However, the chicken wings were very tasty. Ask for the sauce on the side! The selection of wines by the glass was quite modest, none of them being of good quality. The cocktails were better.
