To long, didn't read version: great for a relaxing get away to relax by the pool and not have to worry about a thing.
Pros: nice pool area, well equipped fitness center, close to marina for fishing and other boat activities, reasonable prices, comfy rooms with good A/C
Cons: location is not ideal for anything else besides relaxing by the pool, poor communication from staff at check-in/concierge, mediocre views ("full ocean view" has several buildings in the way), beach is not beautiful (but there aren't any amazing beaches in PVR any way so that's not unique to this hotel).
I booked a club level room directly through Marriott (they had the best rate for my days, and usually are great about matching 3rd party sites). There is an additional $15+tax/day resort fee which covers...nothing? Every single amenity that it gives you should be part of your normal hotel stay. I don't know why they don't simply include it in the room rate.
A taxi to/from the airport will run you between 80 and 200 pesos, and it's about 10 minutes away. That's about the only thing it is close to, unless you want to do some activities out of the marina (go fishing, whale watching, etc). There are a handful of restaurants and cafes along the marina, but none that stood out to me. If you want to hike the jungle or explore the city of Puerto Vallarta proper, this is not the hotel for you.
I was extremely disappointed to discover at check in that the club lounge is closed. What? Apparently it has been under renovation for some time already - why was I able to book a club room at all? Instead, breakfast, snacks, and cocktails would be served in the restaurant. Ultimately, the food and drink were as good (and probably even better) than would have been in the lounge proper, but the fact that this was not communicated anywhere during booking or before arrival left a bad taste in my mouth.
Breakfast was good except for the pastries (dry, flavorless mini-danishes and the like that looked straight out of a costco tray except they tasted like cardboard). Chilaquiles were available every day with a variety of sauces, though fresh tortillas were not (which I found very strange).
Evening "snack" was more like a dinner service with 4 hot dishes (pasta, vegetables, and 2 choices of protein). For buffet food it's absolutely delicious, especially the more traditional Mexican offerings (cochinita pibil, chicken tinga, guacamole, etc). Margaritas were very strong and Marvin, Jonathan, and the rest of the dinner team were friendly and attentive.
The "concierge" is essentially a commission based salesperson. When you arrive they'll try to sell you on adventures and excursions. I won't say that they're overpriced because I wasn't interested at all, but I will say to never accept their first offer. The second day of your stay they will slip a card under door for a free drink or something if you stop by - this is to sell you a timeshare presentation. If you attend you get...some kind of discount, resort credits, etc. etc. etc. Same thing - NEVER TAKE THE FIRST OFFER.
