20 Best Small Towns in Australia

"Between its idyllic turquoise inlet, fresh local oysters, and proximity to wildlife- and culture-rich Montague Island Nature Reserve, Narooma already has plenty of visitor appeal. But with two local institutions — The Whale Inn and Quarterdeck restaurant — currently being revamped by leading Sydney hospitality group Merivale, this laid-back holiday town is poised to become one of the hottest vacation spots on the NSW South Coast." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Visited family in the area and they took us here for a beautiful banquet. The view is incredible. The food is incredible. The head waitress/supervisor was so lovely and welcoming and didn't miss a beat, while really looking after us and everyone one else in the venue (including a customer on another table who seemed to think the world revolved her and seemed hell bent on holding the staff up solely for herself). All the other staff were just as competent and endearing. Highly recommend this place!

Found this place on Google whilst planning our trip down the East coast. Obviously we could only look at photographs so we did not know what to expect. When we arrived, it is very easy to find with lots of free parking, we were amazed at the size of the apartment, it had a lovely private patio with sea views, an enormous bathroom with jacuzzi, two televisions, a fully equipped kitchenette and complete three piece suite. There was a really good pub/restaurant/brewery just down the road with ocean views and some lovely coffee shops in the little town. Natasha, the hostess, was absolutely lovely. If you are ever in the area we would highly recommend this place.

Expectation was met, and the hype was truly justified. Amazing food and incredible flavours. Totally attentive staff. A fantastic evening with lovely people. We will be back, for another dining experience. The Whale lives again, and looking around the room was full of locals enjoying the atmosphere, food and wine.

We stayed at the Whale Inn on our trip up the coast. So clean, spacious ahd inviting. Beautiful views of the ocean from our room. We travelled with our Labrador and the pet friendly suite was perfect. Highly recommend and will definitely stay again.

My partner took me here as a surprise dinner for my birthday. It was their first day trading after the fires. Even so the food was amazing and they were very accommodating. They had many vegan options and unknown to myself, when my partner made the booking she called up about midday and asked if there was any chance they could bake a vegan birthday cake as with everything going on she had been unable to make me one herself. Not only did they make it with only a few hours notice, while also probably very busy with getting things ready for their normal service, the cake itself was delicious. Overall a great night out with amazing food and lovely owners/staff.

I ate my dinner here while travelling along the East Coast and did not have any expectations, although already the initial appearance was inviting. Local freshwater bugs, cooked Cantonese style, and beans and mushrooms were exquisite. I will keep this place on my list of places to visit again.

Lovely place to stay and eat in a lovely little coastal town. Fab suite, beautifully furnished, well equipped with great coffee and an awesome bed. Stunning views over the bay from the balcony. The restaurant is great, and the in room breakfast service efficient and delicious. Free parking makes this place perfect! Very highly recommended!

Lovely little pet (and budget) friendly motel close to everything in Narooma. Staff were friendly and happily supplied us with more delicious home made peanut butter cookies for our son. Room was neat and smelled clean. Will definitely be staying again on our next trip. Thanks Kathy, Darren and Max

Yelp
Stumbled upon this gem. If you're after something special, this is the place. Service was friendly, meals were stunning, we had the oysters - delicious, very fresh. The gnocchi was probably the best we've ever had, and the fish of the day (swordfish) was so moist - mmm yum. Just perfect. Dessert was equally stunning, we had the Lindt choc honeycomb. Highly recommended. Good selection of wines, (and even some *special* malt whiskey for afters!)
