The freshest fish in town! This is a gem and highly recommended. Two "shops" 1) select and purchase your fish, the 2) the cafe dining area to eat and get coffee. We (4) had the Snapper and chips (4x) and ate there in the cafe section. Can find a table inside or outside, with the view of the fishing harbour, the mangroves, and out to the bay. Of course, you can purchase fresh fish to take home! Yes, highly recommended. Thank you.

Nice little location on the waters edge. It was a rainy day but still a warm and dry place to enjoy fish and chips with a cold beer. Fish and chips were exceptional. We got snapper, muscles and cheesy weesies. 10/10 A++

Great pit stop. The ability to eat out on the wharf and enjoy the scenery was worth it. Lots of families and seniors enjoying fish and chips. Mussel Chowder was ok, nothing special. The smoked fishcake had an unpleasant sour taste to it. Lemonfish was tasty.

Disappointing food on our latest visit. The Wharf Café drinks and service is still great but the fish and chips were very salty with very oily batter. White fish and fluffy potato would have made a nicer fishcake than the smoked, fish pie-style oily mix, battered and fried. Service still great as ever.

Great to sit out on the wharf for some fish n chips watching seabirds & locals. Had fish of the day (crumbed trevally) which was only $15 but pretty ordinary, and waaaay too many chips for us, but "c'est la vie" - the setting made up for that

Stopped here for lunch whilst on a day trip with colleagues. It was not even 1pm when I placed my order and they were already out of fish! I had to settle for the fish bites which weren't amazing. Quite a small portion of chips which lacked seasoning and the staff member taking orders wasn't very warm. Also ordered a can of L&P and a tartare sauce. You get a buzzer once you've made and paid for your order so this was a good ordering system. Only takeaway is possible but you'll be able to eat along the wharf as there are picnic tables available with umbrellas. Good location.

Well all I can say is I used to love this place but love soon turned to disappointment. Last few times I came here, yes I give it two chances and both times weren't good at all. First of all and the last I ordered 3 oysters and 2 peices of gurnard when it came out the batter was thick ,overcooked and greasier than a Frenchman trying to sell cars. The oysters I was looking foward to where non existing I had to break apart all the grease batter to even start to find them when I finally found what looked like a dried up snail 🐌 very disappointed paying like $3.50 I think it was, which had more batter than oyster and then to see the size of your thumbnail as a oyster not great . As for the fish it was fresh but it doesn't justify a bucket of grease and again more batter than fish and more salt than the sea won't be going here again sorry not great at all. That is all I can say

Yelp
Not at all hard to find in the small town of Thames at the edge of the Coromandel Peninsula. It doesn't look like much at all; low-scale and simple, but apparently quite the favorite with the locals for their excellent fish and chips. It is located on the oldest existing wharf in the area and it allows for stunning views of the water and trees. It was just the place for us to have dinner after our drive from Auckland. At this type of restaurant you order and pay at the counter; About 30 minutes later, someone comes and yells out the order number on your receipt and you receive your meal wrapped in paper at the table. The food came so hot that it maintained it's temperature throughout the meal. Both the fish and chips (fries) were absolutely delectable; definitely among the best we've ever had. As far as we were concerned, there was no necessity for sauces to accompany the meal, but if you wanted, you would need to count on paying a few extra $$. An interesting phenomenon we noticed was the extreme low-tide, which left the boats in the small marina stuck in the mud. Apparently, when the tide comes in, the water level easily rises 12-15 ft. and laps up to the side of the wharf. It appeared to us that Kiwi parents are very comfortable letting their kids balance on the 6" wide ledge, but the thought of a 5-year old tumbling down to the mud below nearly made my heart stop a few times. All in all, we highly recommend this place for a simple but delicious meal for a reasonable price and a view that can't be beat.
