As for my personal stay, I enjoyed myself very much. We, initially, booked for two nights here; though we decided to stay a third (which is well worth the extra price). Our first room (an executive king) was a bit cramped for three people, but quite comfortable. We had a nice little patio with a decent view, a clean bed and pullout couch, a working television and a great modern bathroom, and were quite satisfied.
After getting settled, we realized that there was a great deal of noise across the street. The noise is mainly from the large 'BigBus' San Francisco city tours (which is a great tour by the way) and the 7-Eleven across the street, which plays classical music to drown out the noise of the buses, as well as the bums. We found this to be somewhat annoying, until we found the modio.
"What is a modio ?" I'm sure you're wondering. A modio is a white noise machine. This helps tune out the sounds from the street and does a great job of it. You can barely hear the street noise, if you crank it up, and will probably get used to it (the white noise) while you're there.
While there is no AC, the fans work pretty well and there are little fans on each light (which are pretty cool). Having no AC is really not that bad in San Francisco, which is 65-80 degrees mostly (though, I am from Phoenix, so 80 degrees is very comfortable in July, but may not be for other people).
The only major concern was the wi-fi access. The lady at the front desk had given us the wrong code and had continued to do so after we called several times. The next day, a man was at the desk and I asked for the code and he gave me the correct code. Besides that, the wi-fi is fast and works well.
Out third day, we moved to our new room, which was just down the hall. We had booked it the day before, and were lucky to have the only open room that night. The room we received (which every hotel/motor hotel has, but are not advertised) was the handicap room, and was basically an upgrade to our previous room, and we were not charged a higher rate!
The beds are very nice, the furniture is comfy, and the rooms are pretty well sized, (For two people). The wallpaper is clean, and so is the furniture and the carpeting. The lighting works well too. Something unique here that I have never seen is how you access the elevator downstairs. You hold your keycard in front of a sensor, which allows you to access the elevator. This is a great security function, especially with the amount of bums in SF.
While this place is a bit outdated (with the exception of the bathrooms), it is a great place to stay, whether you're alone or with others. Overall, I give it four stars and would come back anytime.
P.S: It seems that many people that come stay here in SF, seem to think this place is overpriced, IT"S NOT. San Francisco is now one of the most expensive cities in the United States, so around $300 a night for an Executive King, is a pretty good rate here.
