The Wheel of Brisbane

It was a great experience. The ticket price was $23, which I think is reasonable. However, the photos after the ride cost $30, and I don’t recommend purchasing them — it’s not worth it in my opinion. Everyone has a camera and can take their own photos the way they like. The wheel ride itself was beautiful, not crowded, with lovely views from up high. The service was good too.

Visited on public holiday! Busy place and always a lot of people around. Exactly opposite to CBD and walkable distance if you are coming from CBD and if you are visiting SouthBank Park then its easily accessible. Lots of good resturant around

Lovely view but we felt that the photo’s could have been included in the price paid for a family ticket as its not the best value for money spent in Brisbane.

I love the history thats narrated while you're on the ride despite my fear of heights. Thanks to my colleague I was able to experience the panoramic view. The best experience as well.

At $23 per person for a 15 min ride, the views over Brisbane were nice but it's no different from the views of Brisbane you can get even from the Star Casino Sky Deck, of which is free. The 15 min ride is actually around 8-10 mins because the first 5-7 mins are partial rotations and pauses as they load other passengers, which is a shame. But once it gets going you've already seen the views because of the slow rotations initially and is more just like a fair ground ride beyond that. Is it worth it? I would say no, given the time actually spent and similar views elsewhere. But if you have nothing to do, go for it. Bonus is the amazing air conditioning.

The Wheel of Brisbane was an amazing experience with stunning views of the city and the river. The ride was smooth and relaxing, making it perfect for taking photos and enjoying the scenery. Seeing Brisbane from above, especially at night, was beautiful and memorable. The staff were friendly, and the overall experience felt safe and well-organized. It’s a great attraction for visitors and locals and definitely worth trying at least once.

Amazing experience!! I went on a weekend, yet it was very organised. Best time to get on between 5 and 6. One could see the buildings and whole of Brisbane city.

You get five trips around. They give informative tour.information while you travel. Done by about your second time around. They also give you a pamphlet with the key areas being numbered. So you can follow along.

Costly, but great sights. Moves faster than any other wheel I've been in. If you don't like heights, don't do it.

Touristy? Yes. But it offers a great view of the city. And it's a fun/novel experience for the whole family. Pricey? A bit. $65 (2 adults, 1 student and 2 children) for a 15 minute ride. $20 for a picture of your party digitally placed in front of the Wheel of Brisbane and the Brisbane skyline. $40 for the souvenir album. Obviously, you're not obligated to purchase the last two add ons. When we visited, we were given a pass for our group to return for another free ride that night. Not sure if this is normally offered. Worth it? As a one-time vacation splurge - yes.

Easily one of the best ways to get an amazing view of the city of Brisbane for an American tourist soaking up all the sights she can lay her eyes on. The ride itself is not very expensive, it's the photos afterwards that can get very pricey. Luckily it's optional to purchase the photos so just take your own photos to remember the ride by. The Wheel of Brisbane is surrounded by a grass park where plenty of tourists and locals enjoy the grass and sunshine. You can take a walk across the beautiful bridge into the other part of the city, or stay on this side of the river and enjoy everything Brisbane has to offer. If you're a sucker for breathtaking views and anything "touristy" like myself, this is a fun stop for you!

In a group of 4, we went right after sunset and enjoyed the city lights of Brisbane. We talked over the audio, but one friend said that it was informative of Brisbane history. Another friend is afraid of heights, just something to keep in mind. The whole journey goes for about 12 to 15 minutes. And sure it isn't grand in comparison to other "wheels" or "eyes", but the location is perfect, and it has a lovely setting on Southbank. It was a lovely experience to enjoy at least once. "A wheely good time" I was one of those skeptics who didn't really find the Wheel of Brisbane appealing, but rather, cheesy and maybe even a little cringey. How wrong I was. For the price of $15, it is actually an enthralling way to view Brisbane City, and appreciate what it is about this city that we love. A night time ride would be my preferred time, as the panoramas just look more dramatic and captivating. The cabins are comfortable and the ride itself was long enough for my liking. The Wheel of Brisbane is a great way to show off your city to visitors, but its equally a great option for a nice way to start or end an evening with that special someone. For about $30 you can also splash out on "photo memories" after the ride. The on-ground staff take a picture of you and you choose what background you wish to have. Sure, its no London-Eye, but who cares! I'm a fan, enjoyed it, and had a wheely good time :)

My review is from my experience on the wheel that was a few months ago but I still remember it which is a testament that it's worth visiting- even if only once! During the entire month of September, you will see Brisbane change into a place overflowing with artistic creativity because it's the month long Brisbane Festival. I was lucky enough to go on the Wheel of Brisbane and watch the water and laser lights show. I highly recommend it to beat the crowds and you get an aerial view! We went with a large group and had to split up into 4-6 people per gondola. Our group was super fun and they had connected the audio to the show so we could hear it in the speakers. We had a great ride that was probably longer than most as we were able to watch the entire show from inside the gondola. I think it's a great outing to do on a beautiful clear day or evening. If there is lots happening in South Bank, the ride would be a great way to see all the action as well. I would definitely recommend it. They will get your photos prior to entering the gondola and will ask you if you'd like to purchase the photos after. We didn't love our photo so we didn't purchase it. The prices were quite high but that's to be expected.

We visited the Wheel of Brisbane on a Saturday morning in mid June. It wasn't busy so every group was being given their own car. I think that was really what made the experience. We really enjoyed looking around without any obstacles in the car with us or the awkwardness of being in a confined space with strangers. They do let you pay extra to guarantee an individual car, but why do that when you can go during an off time and get the same experience. I don't think the price is worth it unless you have your own car but I also think it is overpriced for your own car. If you think you can time it to get lucky like we did, then I recommend stopping by. The only other negative was they insist on taking your picture beforehand to sell you a souvenir afterward. This seems to be a very popular trend and I wish it would go away. 4 stars.

The Short: Great thing to do if you are visiting, or have a discount voucher and want to treat the family to a different view of the CBD. The Long: We had an Entertainment Book voucher for this attraction, and it made it affordable. I don't know if I'd be rating it quite as high as I did if it wasn't discounted (by 50% for one admission). Admittedly, this attraction is squarely targeted at the traveler new to Brisbane. Those tourists who go on the attraction are treated to amazing views right to Mt Coot-tha and a good overview of the CBD buildings. There is a canned narrative that plays when your operator closes the door, and you get a guide book that you can follow along with the narrative if you are new to the city. If you are a local, it's a great chance to check out what the tops of some of the South Bank buildings look like, and take a loot back to the mountains and over the CBD. And there are plenty of opportunities for daggy selfies, regardless of whether you are a local or a tourist.

Having lived in London for over a decade (and experienced the London Eye more than once), I was somewhat bemused to return home to Brisbane to find the same thing here. Only smaller. And a bit...well, crap. The cost is ridiculous and the views aren't that amazing (you can get a better look at the city if you work in one of the towering CBD skyscrapers). But I kinda like that it looks pretty at night. So maybe they should decorate it in sequins and promote it as an ironic work of art rather than an actual "experience".

When the Wheel of Brisbane was erected some 3 years ago in Brisbane's cultural precinct, my reaction was one of scorn: "Who do we think we are--London?" Of course, it seems to be the cool thing to do, with many cities doing the same. I've come to accept the Wheel of Brisbane as a pretty addition to our cityscape, however, I wouldn't bother taking the ride. Standing at only 60m tall, the view from the top will only just allow you to look out over the roof of QPAC. The Wheel of Brisbane is a dwarf when compared to the 100m-plus buildings on the opposite bank of the river. At a cost of $15 per adult for a 12-15 minute ride, I was pretty underwhelmed with the experience. If you ever get the opportunity to go up there, great views can be seen from the top of the Santos Building, opposite the State Library. Of course, you may need a contact to get up there.

Although it's only about half the height of the London Eye, the Wheel of Brisbane is, nevertheless, a landmark that can be seen for miles around as well as one from which you can see for miles around. There are 42 air-conditioned gondolas, each seating up to 6 adults and 2 children, and takes passengers for about 3 or 4 revolutions, taking between 12 and 15 minutes for the trip. A recorded commentary tells what is to be seen. The Wheel was built on the banks of the Brisbane River, originally as part of an Expo. It's said to be only a temporary structure, and is intended to be dismantled shortly but they said something similar about the Eiffel Tower!

Meh. I like "ferris wheels" and no I haven't been on the London Eye, so this is probably the largest wheel I've been on. Somehow, smaller rickity fairground wheels are more fun. Maybe it's because they're open to the air. I think the worst thing about the wheel is probably the location. From a tourism standpoint South Bank is a great place for such an attraction, however the "view" is greatly exaggerated. The trouble with South Bank being a large, relatively open area surrounded by tall buildings alongside and across the river is the view from the top of the wheel is barely better than that from the ground. You can literally see 90% of the view from the ground (with the exception of the largely grey uninteresting suburbs to the south). The audio accompanying your trip boasts you can "see" the Gabba to the east.. being able to make out a couple of light towers in the distance does not really equate to "seeing" a major sports stadium in my book. After riding in the day, I got a free pass to ride at night. After the first quarter of the first revolution I was waiting for it to finish. Again, the lights of the city on the river are pretty, but not really any prettier than they are from the ground. And being a perspex bubble, whenever you try to take a photo, even without flash you get your own reflection. Everything else about the wheel is great, it's comfortable, the staff are friendly and professional, it feels safe. I'd recommend it to anyone with a fear of heights (you never really feel that high). For the money though, you're really better off riding the CityCat all day. Better city views too.

While it isn't worth paying fifty million bucks each (okay, $15) for a ticket, if you can get a discount voucher then it's worth going for a ride, just to say you did. Last year a couple of friends and I managed to grab a "$29 for a gondola" deal that had us only paying $5 each for six of us to ride. To be honest, it was more fun than I expected. I love scaring myself stupid at heights, and I was surprised to find that 60m is actually fairly high for a ground-dweller. The gondolas are entirely enclosed and cold air-conditioning is pumped in (uh, in warmer months, at least... anyone been lately?). We went after the sun had set, so we got to enjoy the beautiful city lights as well. We got a free "photo memory" with the deal voucher, too, and I'm so glad because I'll be treasuring that puppy forever. It's not actually taken in the gondola a la thrill rides at amusement parks, it's taken when your feet are on solid ground. It might even be before you ride the wheel... I can't remember. In any case, please act up. Don't smile nicely, unless you're going to palm it off to your grandmother. (She'd probably treasure it.) It's true that it isn't really taken seriously by anybody, though. Sorry, Wheel.

It's the Brisbane Eye! That's what I thought when I saw the gigantic ferris wheel looking thing as I rounded a bend along the river. It couldn't be called the Brisbane Eye though, could it? No, of course not. A quick search for "Brisbane ferris wheel thing" told me it was the Wheel of Brisbane. Good work on the SEO for that Wheel of Brisbane people. I had an afternoon ahead of me and figured it would be a good way to see the sights. It was! Things of note: a) General admission is $15. You can just walk up if you're a solo traveller or a small group. Rides generally last about 12 minutes. b) Cabins fit upto 6 people. c) There's a narration during your ride that highlights specific landmarks and other facts and trivia and history about Brisbane. d) There was a promotion running that if you bought your ride during the day, you could ride for free again the same day after 5pm. With the city all lit up? That would've been awfully pretty. If you've never done a big wheel 360 degree view thing, it's worth doing at least once. It's been over a decade since I was on the one in London.

The Wheel of Brisbane is more of a joke in my opinion, anyone who has seen London's London Eye would take one look at it and be really confused. It is more like a ferris wheel than a tourist attraction. I came here one lazy afternoon after my sister expressed that she would like to check it out since she was planning on leaving the city for a few months. Neither of us had high expectations and had already gathered the views were not going to be the best. The entire ride lasted about 10-15 minutes. There was a voice over explaining a few things about Brisbane and blahblahblah, we zoned out because we already know the city and it did not seem that interesting anyway. I feel that if I was a tourist, I would not be very impressed by that experience. I agree that it looks lovely at night and it adds a bit of an extra interest to South Bank. I think if the wheel was bigger, people would take it more seriously.

Good starting point to explore the city and get an overview. The audio guide in the cabins is really interesting and helpful. Also the air-con in the cabins makes it very comfortable. Only the price of 15 AUD for an adult for only a couple of minutes is from my point of view not a bargain.

the well of Brisbane is awsem when i had a go i was miles high in the air. it's got 5 stars from me
