How to Visit Stowe, Vermont Like a Local

"Located at the resort village area, this open-air pavilion specializes in upscale craft cocktails built around WhistlePig rye whiskey, with outdoor fire pits that provide a cozy setting to watch the last light after a day on the slopes." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. Let me start by saying I love Whistlepig bourbon. It’s an excellent product, I’ve tried many, and unfortunately this place is a let down. These are some of the most expensive pours of Whistlepig I’ve had - a 1 oz pour of boss hog at Pro Pig is a fraction of the cost of 1.5 oz of that same bourbon here, and shockingly this is owned by the distillery that made it! The ambiance is fun, the staff was friendly if not a bit pushy, but the overall cost was far too high. I ordered a 10 year old bourbon that came in a plastic glass; it’s a real shame for people who are fans of bourbon or Whistlepig to come here.

Staying at the lodge and today has been on/off rain. My husband was excited to try the food here. When we arrived, we were able to be seated without a wait because we sat near the bar area (bar top, 3 stool). Almost all other tables are picnic/family style. We ordered 2 draft beers, they were warm. We watched as others arrived & were told seating would be a bit of a wait. The reason for this was that the servers (there were only 2) couldn't keep up with cleaning the tables. We then ordered food and a second round of drinks. The drink were at least cool this time around. Food took.a long time, we watched the servers tell people they were short staffed, heard the staff complaining about being open on days they weren't open before but management didn't prepare to have it staffed properly, and a woman who ordered take out arrived & they told her that her order was behind because of short staffing. My burger arrived and was supposed to come with BBQ chips. I would describe the burger as just fine and the "chips" were just a few crumbs of what I would describe as my kids leaving in the pantry because they couldn't be bothered throwing out the bag. My husband ordered the Mac & cheese with chicken. Also described as "just fine" although it was definitely not hot, more like lukewarm. Overall, very disappointing. I actually did feel bad for the 2 servers trying to manage everything, but openly & loudly complaining isn't exactly what a customer wants to hear the entire time they are there.

Nice place with great atmosphere located at the base of the Stowe ski slopes. The wait staff was awesome explaining the menu and options. The food was excellent, tasty and priced a little high but considering where they are and the limited number of people they get versus a restaurant, one would expect a little higher prices. Now let me get to why they only get 3 stars. Whistlepig, the whisky brand whose home is Vermont, had a wide selection of their famous whisky’s. I ordered their basic Old Fashioned ($28). Needless to say I was pretty disappointed in this drink. It came in a plastic “glass”, with regular bar type ice - the kind that melts pretty rapidly (and dilutes the drink) instead of the big cube one would expect from a nice place that serves their signature brand. The drink had a sliver of an orange. This drink was something you’d expect to pay $5 for at a local bar. Very underwhelmed and a total let down. Whistlepig should work on this. This let down actually made me reconsider buying a bottle of their whisky to take home with me (I didn’t buy one). Oh well - at least the food was good.

What an amazing establishment located within the heart of the village at Spruce Peak to have a drink, some food, and listen to music. This establishment has only been open for a handful of years, but it has been a great idea! Made the village much more lively. The BBQ is out of this world, the chef is very nice, we highly recommend the WhistlePig!

It’s 5/5 for atmosphere however the food options were limited and the pretzel we got was too salty to eat. All the seats inside were warmed and they had a live performance. One thing to keep in mind is that they have a community seating- meaning you might share your table with other families if they are busy.

Absolutely loved this place, 10/10! Went there on Saturday and I booked my reservation in advance so that the table would be ready since they get pretty busy. The food is amazing, we got the humus platter and a steak that comes with the cheese that’s being baked in the fire place. They gave us free whiskey shots at 3 pm on a Saturday, as well as free desert!!!! I was shocked.. I’ve never gotten anything free from a restaurant before so that was new to me lol. The service is amazing, they also sat us down next to the fire stove so I couldn’t get my eyes away from it. Best experience 🫶🏻 Loved it, would come again !!!!

Excellent place to eat after riding the gondola. The bartender and server were very friendly and efficient despite the place being slammed. Get a seat on the outside to get a the nice vibes of the courtyard along with a nice view of the mountains
