An amazing little gem of a pub in the gorgeous Wiltshire countryside.|The Management & Staff are so super friendly & helpful & make your stay a delight. Their rooms are wonderfully comfortable & food a real treat. Thank you for much a special stay.

Great location and setting ,but extremely disapointing dinner . The roast potatoes were like bullets and more fried than roasted . I had 1/2 a carrot and my son had none . We then had to ask for the cauliflower cheese to be brought out as it had not come with the meal ! We were so looking forward to our meal we had traveled 70miles to take my father in law out to lunch . Just such a shame .

First two night visit for family wedding in Calne and really enjoyed our stay. Arrived late after very long drive, but made very welcome by the manager. Our room was well appointed, clean, bed comfortable and quiet - in a seperate annex at the back of the pub. We could charge our EV (app needed) and enjoyed a lovely meal on the first night with wonderful cooked breakfasts each day. Village of Compton Basset was lovely too. Warmly recommended!

We had a fantastic Autumnal weekend at The White Horse. A lovely warm welcome for us and our dog, fantastic food and wine on both nights and super comfortable beds. Thank you!

Roast Beef Sunday Lunch today was outstanding . Great location, atmosphere service and utterly delicious … a credit to Ashley and his team and keeping Compton Bassett right up there as the ‘ go to’ gastro pub in the area.

Stayed overnight for work trip, amazing location, hosts exceptionally welcoming and food was great. Definitely worth a visit, I’ll be returning for sure.

Beautiful place. Stayed while visiting Avebury, had a meal in the restaurant. Rooms very good large car park a bit out of the way but dark skies if it's clear. Excellent breakfast. Would be a place we'll return to.

We booked the private dining function room for a small wedding reception. Our communication with Ashley about what we’d like, what we could and couldn’t do, how we could decorate the room, and what entertainment we were allowed was clear from start to finish. On the day itself the room was laid out beautifully, the food was incredible, the drinks were plentiful and our guests were blown away by the service of Ashley and his team. There wasn’t a single thing we’d change about the day and I cannot praise everyone at The White Horse enough for their professionalism, their warmth and their hard work. Faultless.

This lovely old Inn is English classic in every sense and well worth the little side trip into the tiny hamlet of Compton Bassett. The food is delightful and the staff makes everyone feel like you're a local. There is a causal elegance to the place that is so very rare these days.

Went there for Sunday lunch today, obviously a very popular place. The food was excellent apart from the Yorkshire puds which were too big and very dry- I must admit i haven't yet found a place that makes decent Yorkshires so this won't stop me going again as the beef was grand! and they certainly weren't stingy with the portions! As veggie lovers however we found that a small dish between four wasn't nearly enough. Some confusion around timing of coffees and desserts but despite this the desserts were awesome! and the liqueur coffee was lovely. Also the house white wine was really good and none of that aftertaste you can get from cheap house wines. All in all a pleasant place- quiet even tho it was packed as there was no 'muzak' blaring in the background and no games machines in sight- the tables were far enough apart from each other that we felt we had a degree of privacy. The staff were friendly and attentive- if a little confused sometimes lol I will definitely be going back!!
