This is a lovely old pub that has added rooms at the rear. Our room number 7 was very clean, nicely decorated as was the bathroom. Ample tea and coffee. Clean towels both days. We had breakfast both mornings, spoilt for choice tbh. We also had an evening meal the first night, my husband had the chicken supreme and said it was the best meal he’d had in years. We stayed here as we were attending a wedding at Wellington Barn which is about 10 minutes away. I can not emphasise enough how important it is to pre book taxis. We did, cost us £36 round trip, I thought this was a lot but another couple who hadn’t pre booked ended up paying £63 and they were very lucky to get one. Don’t leave it to chance or you may not get one at all.

This is an excellent well-run friendly country pub. It proves the perfect base for a local wedding. The rooms are very clean, comfortable beds and fluffy towels. Excellent cooked breakfast nicely presented. We also had lunch in the restaurant on Sunday. Very busy so clearly popular and nice menu. |The staff were unfailingly helpful and polite with a great friendly attitude. |Highly recommended.

My husband and I spent an pleasant couple of days at this delightful Inn. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and our room was bright and airy with a huge, very comfortable bed. The breakfast was generous and very tasty with good quality bacon. The home made crumpets were fresh, light and fluffy. The new chef clearly has very high standards and passion for his craft, as the evening meal was absolutely delicious and extremely well presented. Throughout our stay, the staff were so welcoming and friendly which made this a very enjoyable experience.

Rooms were warm clean and comfortable and had character. The service was exceptional, shown to our rooms. The restaurant, I had the soup and bread of which I have never tasted anything so good. My son had a starter lamb croquettes and main meal, steak which he stated was better than most steaks in Australia and anywhere we've had since being in Ireland and the UK. If we could have eaten more we would have. Ester and James went out of their way to accommodate us. Lovely quiet village, close to Avebury and on our way done west. Highly recommend this as a stop.

The location is breathtaking, staff are amazing, everything is super clean. But their kitchen... OMG! Forget about London fine dining just travel here instead. Best steak in the UK. And definitely try the duck. Or anything from the desert menu. Absolutely fantastic food! I would and will go back.

Really great weekend visiting the pub whilst staying nearby in an Airbnb. Friendly staff, Ali, the landlady, is so nice and friendly. Had a great laugh with her, and she came up with a number of ideas of where to go and places to visit. Great beers and good food.

Met Ashley on arrival with a big smile on his face. What a great guy. He is literally everywhere. Took us to our room which is separate to the pub. The room was beautiful and clean and overlooking a stunning landscape. The breakfast was so tasty and amazing presentation. Again Ashley is there to greet you. The pub it's self is traditional and the locals were very friendly. I would definitely recommend this hidden gem.

We stayed two nights at The White Horse Inn in Compton Bassett and absolutely loved it. We had the family suite, which was perfect for our family of three—spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The beds were especially cozy, and the peaceful countryside surroundings made it a truly restful stay.||In hindsight, we wish we had made this our home base for the entire week. The location is ideal for exploring the area, and the inn itself feels like a home away from home. We’ve been in the UK for 11 days, and our family unanimously agreed this was one of our top two accommodations—and hands down our favorite breakfast. I’ve mostly stayed in places with four-star reviews, and this one definitely stands out.||The staff were all warm and welcoming, but we want to give a special shoutout to the manager, Ash. He was amazing—friendly, efficient, and full of helpful recommendations that enhanced our visit.||We highly recommend The White Horse Inn and hope to return for a longer stay next time!

Yelp
This lovely old Inn is English classic in every sense and well worth the little side trip into the tiny hamlet of Compton Bassett. The food is delightful and the staff makes everyone feel like you're a local. There is a causal elegance to the place that is so very rare these days.

Yelp
Went there for Sunday lunch today, obviously a very popular place. The food was excellent apart from the Yorkshire puds which were too big and very dry- I must admit i haven't yet found a place that makes decent Yorkshires so this won't stop me going again as the beef was grand! and they certainly weren't stingy with the portions! As veggie lovers however we found that a small dish between four wasn't nearly enough. Some confusion around timing of coffees and desserts but despite this the desserts were awesome! and the liqueur coffee was lovely. Also the house white wine was really good and none of that aftertaste you can get from cheap house wines. All in all a pleasant place- quiet even tho it was packed as there was no 'muzak' blaring in the background and no games machines in sight- the tables were far enough apart from each other that we felt we had a degree of privacy. The staff were friendly and attentive- if a little confused sometimes lol I will definitely be going back!!
