By far best hostel I’ve ever stayed in not only is it kept clean but overall you get a real good vibe created by Julia the manager who makes this place feel like a second home. Free breakfast every morning, taco Sunday free lunch, and other activities are created at the hat. Location awesome about 10 min walk to Perth CBD. Highly recommend anyone try this place you won’t be disappointed

Best hostel we have stayed in while in Australia. It cost a little more than others but it is worth it. Great friendly atmosphere but still kept quiet after 10pm. So you can still sleep when you want to. Very clean and the staff are all really friendly. Stayed here twice, two weeks the first time then just over a week the second time, and would do it again if we were back in Perth.

The cleanliness of this hostel is not fantastic, the bathroom floors, showers and kitchen in particular. The showers hot water hardly worked and cut in and out regularly even when you managed to get hot water. The lady on reception was the only positive part of my stay, she was very helpful, friendly and professional. That being said the accommodation was cheap, though I think it's far from 4 stars and I probably wouldn't stay again.

The beds were great to sleep in. Clean, comfortable, air conditioned. The female rooms are cramped. I recommend the mixed room as there is much more space. However they are near the front door. People tend to talk and congregate through the night. Earplugs helped with sleep. Kitchen facilities are kitted out well. Cutlery, etc available for $10 deposit. Great book depository. The bathrooms are poorly designed and become dirty quite quickly. Staff do clean them daily, but to no avail as there is nothing to help dry the feet. It is a cliquey place. Many have lived there for a while or are FIFO workers on the piss. There were fire alarms that went off for a half hour in the middle of the night. The night manager didn't know how to turn them off, nor did he have a list of names or a fire evacuation plan. If it had been a real fire, he was not prepared. I wouldn't stay here again as the vibe isn't what I'm after.

Worst hostel I've ever been to. Avoid at all costs. The staff are malicious and cause unnecessary drama. I got asked to leave for playing music at 4pm, to which I gladly obliged. Wouldn't recommend to anyone - genuinely better off sleeping on the park bench across the road. It's one rule for the staff and another for everyone else. You're not permitted to have fun in anyway whatsoever. It's the weirdest atmosphere I've experience since being in Australia. Julia the manager is a two-faced bossy drunk who thinks she owns everyone who stays there. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I made a trip down to this place to plan for my next trip in Perth. The place is generally clean. Shower areas (located in the middle of the house) are clean and brightly lit. The dining area looks homely. Living/TV area is cozy. No smoke smell. Carpark is free. Location is perfect. It is just next to Robertson Park. Manager Julia Denison was friendly.

Stayed at this place for 3 months in a Ladies only dorm (3 in a room). Julia is an amazing manager (friendly yet strict, ensures safety, discipline, no nonsense person, won't tolerate misbehavior or rule breaking). She won't be available beyond 5 30 PM on weekdays and the whole of weekend. There are night supervisors and weekend supervisors to take over. They have books to read, a TV room, a courtyard, a clean Kitchen with basic utensils, ladies only/men only/unisex toilets, washing area with washing machines, dryer, ironing board with iron box, cloth lines, vending machine. Most tenants are backpackers. The rooms are well maintained, sheets changed and carpets vacuumed on request. On Sundays you are served with free lunch apart from the daily free basic breakfast, by the management. They also have movie night, conduct games and winners are offered tickets to various clubs. Hyde park (3 mins walk) is a perfect place for some quiet 'me' time or for an active workout. The nearest CAT bus stop is 8 mins walk from the dorm. Northbridge would be the perfect shopping spot for everything. I was the only Indian woman staying but this place made me feel like home away from home!

Yelp
I spent six weeks backpacking around Australia after college. I mostly stayed in hostels in an attempt to save money for scuba diving and other expensive hobbies! The accommodations were nice, it's a renovated house built in 1892 for the Dartnell family. The rooms are big and there is plenty of common space including a nice big kitchen. They advertise being close to shopping and dining and they aren't far away but it's a good 20 minute walk to the train station and shopping district. The Witch's Hat is tucked away in a cute little neighborhood and super quiet, however be warned it is a dark walk home from the main part of town. I stayed there in June and I have to warn you it does get cold in the bedrooms at night so bring an extra blanket or two!
