The Wooden Spoon

I was on my way to Escondido to visit a few wineries. On the way out, I stopped by this endearing, charming, cozy restaurant! Only around for a short while (on the order of two years), this original restaurant has really made a name for itself. The chef, and owner, has built a refuge from the daily rigors of life in the form of novel cuisine and a fresh take on comfort foods. Each dish offers a unique perspective of a classic, turning oldies into originals. While the menu is small, the line-up does fluctuate with seasonal availability, which keeps this place new. If you still didn't have enough to eat, worry not! The special item to order for dessert is the homemade chocolate chip cookies! What a treat!! These are made to order (i.e., not sitting around), so make sure to put your order in during your meal so it's ready when it's time for dessert! The environment is friendly, cozy, and fun. It's simple yet sophisticated. The wait staff are friendly and engaging, which positively adds to the ambience. I enjoyed the camaraderie and even took home a souvenir glass bearing the restaurant's logo. I highly recommend The Wooden Spoon if you're in the area. I know I'll certainly be back - Five stars!!

If you want to give your taste buds a treat...you need to try this place. The food is locally grown and fresh, the service is outstanding and the desserts are incredible. Our server Jessica was fabulous!! We're from South Orange County and definitely go back when in the area.

Cute place with local foods. They have a large patio area which is great to get some sun on a nice day. Their fried chicken sandwich is good. Wish they had a slightly bigger menu selection though.

I don't know why we waited so long to try this place... Possibly the drive out to Escondido just to try the restaurant was enough to deter me all this time. The food was absolutely excellent! With a menu that's always changing I can see the hesitation to try a dish. Personally I love it. The change in ingredients and entrees to favor seasonal vegetables and fish is always welcomed because that's how we're supposed to do it! Organic (mostly) and the flavors tell the story. Utilizing local farms to supply their ingredients for their masterpieces, The wooden spoon hits all the top marks.

One of the most delicious places I’ve been to in SoCal. I’ll try to make a stop here anytime I’m in the area. The concept of the restaurant is modern but homey. The food you can tell is made with great ingredients, and the menu has a lot of exciting things to choose from. Loved the iced coffee too! Can’t wait to be back.

Been here a couple of times already and pleased their menu doesn't get boring. The burger was amazing, and the fries and gravy were delicious. They clearly use top quality ingredients. The servers are great and turn a meal into a pleasant experience... Next time I will make sure to leave room for desert!

Amazing house salad, I can tell they used super fresh ingredients. Smells like my mom's garden which I loved!! Fries, burgers, sandwiches were great! Oh and their customer service is wonderful!!! Would come back again!

I don't post many reviews, just great or poor ones. Well Chef/Owner Jesse has it right at The Wooden Spoon. The food's fresh and top shelf, never pre-cooked or microwaved, at least as far as I could see and I was sitting at the bar right in front of the action. If I had to summarize in one word it would be QUALITY. Seating is 20 at the tables and 7 at the bar inside, ill take a guess at 40-50 seats outside on the patio. The staff and atmosphere is very friendly and inviting. The menu is relatively small BUT, it's indicative of your higher quality 4 & 5 star places and there's something for everyone; Meat, Chicken, Vegetarian and Fish. We will definitely be regulars here.
