The Best Places in the World to Travel if You Love Mushrooms

"Don’t have the time for an international trip at the moment? Just head to Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, which boasts the largest — and tastiest — selection of mushroom in the U.S. The Woodlands at Phillips Mushroom Farms (just outside of Kennett Square) offers cooking demonstrations with local chefs, a selection of handpicked mushroom varieties (think everything from cremini and shiitake to royal trumpet and lion’s mane), as well as a quirky mushroom exhibit — which shows the mushroom-growing process, from start to finish." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Wonderful shop with everything mushrooms. Great selections of fresh mushrooms of all kinds and also lots of great gift ideas to share a part of Kennett Square with someone. Mushroom museum is free and worth the stop in its self. Fun to learn about what goes on in the local area related to the mushroom industry. Best for last, the staff in the store are all super friendly and knowledgeable to help you pick out the best mushrooms for your favorite recipes! Highly recommended!!!

I Love this place! I enjoyed visiting the Awesome Mushroom Themed Gift Store at Phillips Mushroom Farms today. So many Amazing things to buy from all types of fresh mushrooms, all sorts of food, coffee, cards, clothing, handbags, stickers, dishes, mugs, decorative ceramics and more that are mushroom themed. Beautiful Stuff, it's hard not to want to buy one of everything in the store especially if you love mushrooms like me! Friendly, kind, and helpful staff, everyone there was so super nice and great to talk too! Absolutely one of the best gift stores I have been too!

We go there for exotic mushrooms even though the shop is far from my house. One day a friendly staff showed us a hand-dug well behind the house. It was so neat, with ferns growing on the side. We learned that the house was very old. The view in the backyard was so peaceful with rolling greens, such as farmland and trees. I purchased a box of portobello mushrooms and a box of mixed mushrooms --- pom pom, oyster, shitake and mitake. They were fresh and delicious.

A wonderful haven of all things mushroom. There is a variety of fresh, beautiful mushrooms for a culinary delight. Then, you must allow time to peruse all the wonderful, whimsical items for sale. And, let me not forget the friendly, knowledgeable staff. Do not pass by this treasure!

Yelp
If you love mushrooms, you must visit this family-owned farm with a small mushroom museum and a mighty gift shop. Located in the "Mushroom Capital of the World," my small family popped in an hour before closing on a July Saturday. Staff were very helpful and kind. The museum is one small room with an area where you can see mushrooms growing. The gift shop comes with several small rooms and every item imaginable with mushrooms in or on it. We walked away with $10 mushroom earrings for my wife, mushroom-shaped salt and pepper shakers, and a mushroom popsicle for our seven-year-old daughter. Checking in on Yelp unlocks a free jar of garlic mushrooms with a purchase of $15 or more.

Yelp
THE PLACE to buy mushrooms. I stopped in while in town and purchased a beautiful, 3 pound, 4 variety pack of mushrooms for just $20! I got out to the car and decided to go back in and get a second box for my boyfriend because I wasn't about to share. Expect to see all kinds of mushroom both friend and dried as well as themed items as well, Su chi as aprons, note pads, kitten towels. The service was great, especially because I came in a bit frantic after the locals giving me places to go that didn't have mushrooms, weren't open, or only sold to distributors. Unfortunately, the shopkeeper had to hear about my experience and was till professional and helpful. She even told me about an event that we're having in September with someone in the mushroom industry. Am I going? Heck yes! Don't forget the mushroom houses and a mushroom museum is on site! Wow, what a place! Three cheers for mushrooms!

Yelp
I have been going to the Woods at Phillips Mushroom Farm for over 20 years. I have never been dissapointed and the service and products are the best. They have a variety of products to try and occassionally a speaker or demonstration. It's considered the biggest mushroom farm in the USA.

Yelp
I am no lover of any kind of fungus ( fungi????) but our visit here was very interesting! I had been hoping g to be able to tour the plant, but the woodlands has a small museum where you can watch short videos about the growing and harvesting process! I had no idea!!! And the gift shop offers everything g imaginable having to do with shrooms. Garden Sculptures, recipes, lotions, puzzles, you name it...even dog treats! There is even a kitchen where they offer classes. Friendly staff. Nice day trip

Yelp
This place is a combination of mushroom vendor, gift shop, and museum, relocated to this restored 1820 house that has been in the Phillips family all that time. They used to be on Baltimore Pike, but this is an unassuming spot labeled as "The Woodlands" with an understated sign on the road. Look for the red, white and blue OPEN flag swaying in the breeze at the top of the hill. Inside is a warm, cozy store of little rooms with everything labeled mushroom - mugs, towels, aprons, everything. The entry way is where you will see the fresh mushroom frig with royal trumpets, creminis, maitakes, portobellos, and shiitake plus the usual buttons. They have an assortment of dried mushrooms as well but no wilds or exotics as a rule.

Yelp
A little further out than the main strip in Kennett Square but worth the five minute drive if you're a mushroom fan. This cute little place is just what I was looking for when I decided to enjoy that we were in the mushroom capital. There is a mushroom shop on State street (main shopping area) but it isn't as charming as Woodlands. Everything from fresh mushrooms to a mushroom tie or apron. We picked up mushroom soup mixes, spices, recipes and marinade. Looks like they have cooking classes.

Yelp
This is a find. They offer freshly packed mushrooms in many varities as well as marinated and dried. Will return for one of their Fall cooking classes too

Yelp
The price on a 3 pound box of crimini mushrooms is very good. If you usually get white button mushrooms and have never tried criminis, you will not go back to those boring flavorless mushrooms again. And they are picked the same day, so they are as fresh as you can get. Everyone who works here is friendly. I forgot about giving Phillips a review. They deserve it. Good job P E. Your review was very good, but they do on occasion have wild picked mushrooms. I think they work with a few people trying to make them available. Or at least they used to.

Yelp
This place has mushroom everything. All types of mushroom gifts, home items, food, etc,,. Their mushrooms are excellent and as fresh as you can get! Service is also friendly.
