Where to Eat, Stay, and Visit in England's Lake District

"We set off into town to the World of Beatrix Potter, a walk-through homage to the author's wildlife creations that was plenty of fun for adults: the exhibition includes paintings, letters, and photographs, plus a garden planted with species identified from her illustrations and even Peter Rabbit's famous blue jacket mounted on a pole." - Monisha Rajesh Monisha Rajesh Monisha Rajesh is a London-based travel journalist and author whose work has appeared in publications like Time and Vanity Fair. Do you enjoy the imaginary world created by the wonderful Beatrix Potter, or simply the famous Peter Rabbit? This is a great place to spend the day exploring an amazing curated environment in a busy town. Make sure you travel light and avoid bringing your buggy if possible as it does get rather tight spaced with the audience viewing but they do control no. Of people at a time as there is a 3min video at the start. Get the free activity book and find the answers with your children. There is also two cafe - one that offers coffee and cakes and painting, the other (across the road) is newly added which offers food also but closes early and can get rather busy.

A beautiful place, taking you back to childhood days, when you first heard the story of Peter Rabbit. The life size characters and decorations are breathtaking, making you feel like you're stepping right into one of the stories itself. The garden is stunning, looks just like in Beatrix's illustrations. Plenty of easter eggs to find there for those who look in the right places. The cafe was great as well, we stopped for a gluten free and vegan beetroot brownie and it was delicious. The only downside was, that I expected to see more original illustrations but I understand that the place is more for children rather than adults.

I’m in love! Totally worth a visit if you are a fan or in town with the kids. Lovely exhibition and enough activities to keep the kids entertained. Even if you’re not a fan it is worth a visit for their display! From an artistic perspective they did a marvelous job. Unfortunately for we visited quite late in the day so we only got to spend so much time inside. Would recommended the latest admission at 15:00 if you truly want to enjoy the full experience and get lost in the world of Beatrix Potter!

What a fantastic place to see! Amazing for children so we will definitely come back with our little one when he’s here. Paid £12 for adult each, it starts with short story about Beatrix and then you allowed to enter the world full of her characters in 3D. On the end you can take a photo on the green screen and get it printed for £13 as a memory and visit the shop full of Beatrix Potter’s merch.

This is a great attraction for families! Wonderful setting, its interactive and everywhere you look there’s something fun. Id recommend reading the books first, because they explain facts behind the story. Definitely child friendly, and for those who are nostalgic. Mostly animatronics of the characters. There are two gift shops with a great assortment of goodies, that seems to be a big focus for them.

Visited Bowness and the Beatrix Potter museum. The venue was lovely and the staff were really friendly. I have a wheelchair user in the family that didn't come with us on the day but I don't feel I would have managed the wheelchair inside (or getting to and from) this venue with steep hills at front and rear doors. I could see people struggling with prams inside too. Otherwise the models and attention to detail on the story was amazing. Would highly recommend if you're in the area.

Absolutely loved it here. A must for any Beatrix Potter fan young or old. The exhibits are so cute and the layout is well thought out. I didn't want it to end! There's a photo opportunity before heading into the store where exclusive goodies await for you to pick them.

Yelp
This is such an enchanting and nostalgic place for us. We are enamored with Beatrix's work, both the children's book and her conservation one. Even though this is geared for children, adults will enjoy it just as much it even more since there's is much detail one can appreciate. Tickets easily purchased as you walk in, we were the only children free adults with our group and everyone had a lovely time. You'll walk along some of her stories. The props are fantastic and there's a real green, too that you can visit. It has a beautiful statue that you should definitely need to look at everything that was thought of including when they made it. At the end of the self guided and walk at your own pace your, you'll go to a well stocked gift shop. Everything that you can think of. Al theme with her children's books' characters, of course. They also have a small cafe and I'm sorry to say we did not try it. I so regret that. All in all, it's a beautiful and well thought of place and great tribute to the late Beatrix Potter and her work.

Yelp
For £7, you can enter the World of Beatrix Potter. If you were a fan of the books, like I was, you might want to check this place out. It's very cute and creepy at the same time. Beatrix Potter bought a lot of land before she passed in Windermere to preserve the landscape in this quaint little area of England. Her estate built a little museum in tribute to her and her beloved characters. This place is great for kids as long as they aren't scared of the creepy animals. I suppose that it is no different from going to an amusement park. You walk in and there's a short film on the life of Beatrix Potter in the main viewing room. There's a corridor with her characters strewn about and a small garden outside. There is a small cafe/tea room downstairs. I bought some tea and cake. The wifi is free for customers. You just need to ask the staff for the password. This is a nice stop if it's cold and rainy outdoors. If you have children, they will enjoy it.

Yelp
What a great place to take kids on a wet day in Windermere. On entering the museum you are greeted by a huge clock featuring many of her characters. You then wait to enter a small cinema to watch a brief film about Beatrix Potter and her life and inspirations, you then leave through another door that takes you into the world of Beatrix Potter, it is claimed that every character Beatrix wrote about is depicted, so look carefully. Many of the characters are motorised and children love them, there are lots of nooks and crannies filled with scenes from the books. You are allowed to take photographs, and there is a professional photographer who will take you picture, for a small consideration, near the exit. The shop is good and well laid out and the prices very reasonable. Highly recommended.

Yelp
The children who I went with, both girls, 8 and 10, enjoyed the film. The older one was a bit critical of the way the characters were portrayed, but the younger one was captivated. The cafe was expensive. For a wet day in the Lake District £6 for adults and £3 for children, didn't seem to extortionate.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place. It was like becoming a child again. Although we didn't take long to get through it the stories were really brought to life with the displays and excerpts. The bit at the end detailing Beatrix Potter's life was fantastic. The kids will love it. Although again it seemed expensive it was really worth it

Yelp
This beatrix potter is a great exhibition for the small members of the family. It is so very well done and full of things to see both big and small. It is important to take the time to point out all the small animals hiding in little caverns and under the floors to smaller children who might miss them. It could be walked through really quickly which would be a complete waste or else you can just take your time and enjoy all of the sounds, the smells and all of the little funny characters. There is an informative film at the start and a lovely cafe for a lunch or snack at the end. It is all very well done and I would highly recommend it.

Yelp
This is a great day out. Loved every minute of it. This is a lovely magical place and great place to take children and an even better place for adults who want to remember what it was like to first discover this wonderful womans books.

Yelp
Many of Beatrix Potters stories and characters are bought to life here, my daughter had a fantastic time and it inspired her to read all the stories again. For example you can explore Mr McGregors garden, and Jemima Puddleducks woodland glade. It's not cheap - but well worth it for a fan.

Yelp
Please don't take your kids here if they are older than three - they will hate you for it! This is the naffest aimed at foolish tourists 'attraction' ever. There is a small museum dedicated to all things Beatrix Potter at the end of the seemingly endless array of dressed up animal animatronics which brings it up slightly but there are more interesting places to go and see Potter stuff in Hawkshead. Most of the museum (if you can call it that) is a large shed where all of her stories are supposedly brought to life by ridiculous real life scenes from her books but we took our 2 year old and he quickly got bored of them (and slightly freaked out). They'd be better off just bringing one story to life so you walked through the whole thing rather than one scene from all of them which was just a bit pointless really.

Yelp
Although we only went in to escape the rain, we were pleasantly surprised by this exhibition. As we are not devotees of Peter Rabbit or his creator, the initial section, which comprised a film and related information about the life of Beatrix Potter, was wasted on us. Fortunately, the walk through the recreation of each of the tales was very well done, with the characters and their habitats modelled in intricate detail. After this came the inevitable gift shop, with stacks of delicate souvenirs placed at kiddie height, presumably to induce maximum parental meltdown. We had originally hoped to spend a few hours here, but there really wasn't anything to hold a small child's attention for that long, 50 minutes was more than enough.
