The Yak Lake House

Wish we came here sooner, their low rating put me off but it's excellent here. We weren't guests at the hostel but just came to eat some food and ended up hanging out on their deck for 2 days running. The food is good, the staff are friendly and the whole place has a very chilled vibe with great views and access to the lagoon.

Nice to sit and watch the water and activities happening. I ordered Chilaquiles, as an avid Chilaquiles eater. What I was brought was more of a bowl of tortilla chips and guacamole. It tasted good, no complaints on the flavor itself... But it wasn't Chilaquiles. (picture is deceptive because the sauce appears to be normal Chilaquiles green salsa, but it was guac)

This hostel is located in the most ideal spot, the wharf and access to the lagoon is amazing. We spent most of our time in the lagoon here. If you are coming for the party on Wednesday be warned - it is open to others and really isn’t catered to people in the hostel. If this is your reason for staying here then I would recommend staying elsewhere and just come for the night (or day passes during the day which most our friends we met along the way did). Drinks were expensive and the DJ did not have an understanding of the crowd, for the most part the music isn’t catered to the hostel but rather to others who join (the dance floor was dead and the DJ would not change the music to suit). It seems other hostels in the area know how to cater to crowds within the hostel better. Overall still a great experience but the Wednesday party and access to the lagoon (as you can get day passes like our friends did) shouldn’t be the deciding factor.

The best place to spend the afternoon by the lagoon! The Yak is amazing, it has a super chill and fun atmosphere. The access is open to the public with just a minimum consumption (a beer for about $50 MXN), which is totally fair and affordable. The staff is super lovely, always helpful, and full of good vibes. Afternoons at The Yak are truly special, with great activities and a perfect environment to meet people or simply relax. I always choose it and highly recommend it. My dear Yak family thank you for everything. Best hostel in Bacalar and one of my best in general ! So much love from the staff. They are here for you. Recommendations, smiles, tons of activities and a lot of pure love. You have a direct swimming point in the dock of the hostel. Also thank for Adventure Lab for amazing tours and vibes ! Amazing stay at the hostel! The vibe is absolutely great — you feel welcome as soon as you arrive. Huge shoutout to the super friendly and helpful staff, especially ALI at the front desk who was incredibly kind during our whole stay. The rooms are super clean and comfortable. One of the best parts: direct access to the Bacalar lagoon — such a treat and the perfect way to start or end the day! Only small downside: the AC in the rooms could be stronger, but we were given extra blankets so it wasn’t a problem at all. And don’t miss the avocado toasts — they’re delicious! Highly recommend this place

This is the best place to stay in Bacalar! The hostel is very clean and the lagoon views are unlike anything else, but what makes the Yak a special place that will make you want to come back is the staff! They always have something planned. I took a tour to Los Rápidos with Alfredo (papacito) and it was amazing, this is a must when staying here if you want the best tour guide and to visit a beautiful place near Bacalar. Javi is also the best host, he taught us how to make a delicious guacamole, and it was so good that I won the contest 😋 While staying here, Abril took such good care of me and kept my margaritas coming! I can’t wait to come back and stay at Yak again. I love y’all guys💖

The Yak Lake House hostel was absolutely amazing! The staff here are incredibly friendly and have such a great vibe. They’re always ready to help and support you whenever you need anything. I ended up extending my stay because I enjoyed it so much it’s the perfect balance between relaxing and taking a break, but there’s also plenty of action if you’re looking for it. The service was excellent! Edu always took great care of me, bringing amazing energy and a positive attitude. The atmosphere here is fantastic highly recommend!
