The Yak

Clean rooms and great atmosphere overall, specially at night. I stayed with 5 other friends for about 2 days and we all agreed this had been our favorite hostel during the whole trip + it's at a great location really close to the strip mall. They offer lockers within the rooms and free breakfast (fruits, yogurt, cereal, coffee, and toast)

We met so many great people. We ended up being there when there was kind of a lull in the daily activities so that was sad but still a lot of fun. The outlets inside the lockers were super convenient and secure. They have staff that speaks English and Spanish at least. Good mattress, you have to ask reception for a blanket if a flat sheet isn't enough for you. Cute rooftop area that's more chill. Music goes late and starts early at the bar but nothing terrible. You won't get tons of sleep but that's not what you stay at a hostel for.

The hammocks, the music, the bar, the staff, the location... all of it was awesome. It's location is very central so we walked everywhere. There's also a vegan restaurant right around the corner for those who prefer vegan food. The room we got was clean and the beds were comfortable. The AC was falling apart but it worked! They also have breads, jams, cereal, and juices in the mornings. I hope I get to go back another time and stay longer!

Such a great hostel to stay at in Playa del Carmen. The staff was friendly. They had different activities each night - taco night, bbq night, and &, various drink nights! The rooms were very clean, along with the bathroom. The hostel itself was gated and required you to get buzzed in. Nice relaxing common area!

Great hostel with a reasonably priced bar, beautiful common area, very chill atmosphere during the day to relax and awesome parties and activities at night to hang out with people from all over the world and a friendly, helpful staff. Best hostel in Playa and one of the best beach city hostels in the world! I'd recommend it to anyone coming to Playa looking for great times.

The vibe here is great, laid back, groovy! Staying in a suite for 3 was awesome, quiet, clean, comfortable after a long day of playing! We thought no hot water was part of the hostel experience but we told the front desk ahs they had it fixed immediately. Very secure, VERY convenient, priced right, we will certainly be back!

Pretty cool hostel, one of the the STAFF members was extremely rude which is rare in a hostel. Usually there is great hospitality but definitely not in this one. The live music and environment overall is great. No air-conditioning, they claim they have but it barely works. A low budget solution, that could've been better if some of the STAFF wouldn't be so rude.

Spent 10 days touring Q. Roo and this was hands down my favorite hostel. Staff couldn't have been better. Great common area, and good food/drinks at a fair price. I highly, highly recommend this place!

This place seemingly only exists for the employees to try to hook up with tourists. I felt extremely uncomfortable and borderline unsafe in this hostel. They claimed to have great "security" but honestly I felt like I needed security from the employees, not anyone outside the hostel. The place was dirty, there was zero hot water all week, and to call the wifi "spotty" would be overstating it: the wifi was terrible. I would literally rather sleep at the airport then stay at the Yak hostel again. I would rather sleep on the beach. I'd almost rather sleep in the alleyway next to the hostel. This place was horrible, the workers were scumbags (with maybe one or two exceptions), and I will never, ever return. Don't let your girlfriend or your daughter stay alone at this place. I certainly wouldn't.

One of the best and cleanest hostels I have ever been too. Close to the beach, nightlife and shopping. Daily group activities. The in house bar is a great way to meet new friends from all over the world.
