The Yan @ Broadrayne

We’ve just returned from the most wonderful two-night stay at The Yan in Grasmere, where we stayed in the Seat Sandal self-catering pod – and what an exceptional experience it was. The pod was absolutely immaculate on arrival – beautifully presented, spotlessly clean and incredibly well thought out. Everything we could possibly need had been provided, from fresh milk and tea, coffee and sugar to the most gorgeous Pure Lakes toiletries. There was ample firewood supplied too, which made the evenings feel extra cosy. It’s those thoughtful little touches that really elevate a stay, and The Yan gets it just right. We also made great use of the excellent selection of walking guides available in the pod, which helped us make the most of the stunning surroundings. The location felt perfectly balanced – peaceful, private and wonderfully remote, yet only around a 20-minute walk into Grasmere. The ideal base for exploring without being in the thick of it. The team were all fantastic throughout our stay, but a special mention has to go to Erin, who was incredibly friendly, welcoming and attentive. She really made us feel looked after. We also dined in the restaurant and were blown away – it’s a gorgeous setting with truly amazing food. The highlight for us was the Sunday dinner, which was hands down one of the best we’ve had. All in all, an exceptional stay from start to finish. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Yan and can’t wait to return.

Fabulous food in a beautiful restaurant. You can tell everything is made with a passion for great food and a really warm service. Our dog was also made to feel more than welcome. We'll certainly be back at this wonderful high end restaurant. 10/10 🥰🐾👌

What a find. We ate dinner there this week and it was superb. Served by incredibly helpful friendly staff. Excellent value for money for delicious quality food . Decor is lovely too. ||(My only “ be aware “ is the place is quite compact and at one time there were 8 dogs in there. Appreciate it’s a dog friendly venue but those with allergies may welcome the heads up so can hit the antihistamine before hand ). ||We ate ( descriptions from the menu which are accurate ) the following. Can’t pick out a favourite. It was all lovely. ||Jalapeño & lime hummus, topped with toasted seeds and a drizzle of honey. Served with toasted tortillas ||Slow cooked Grasmere Herdwick lamb, gently pulled and simmered with chopped tomatoes, Moroccan spices, dried apricots and chickpeas. Topped with toasted almonds and harissa yoghurt. Joined on the board by a warm roasted veg & lemon quinoa salad and green beans. ||Jaffa cake - chocolate mousse with a blood orange gel on a bed of sponge. Dark and white chocolate shard and candied orange peel.

Wow. This place is just amazing.|I went here with my wife and 2 young children. The Yan is set in the heart of the mountains and is on an old converted farm. The views are stunning and the farm that also has holiday cottage’s is modern yet keeping its Lake District identity. Very clever and also plenty of parking. All this before we even went into the bistro.|The bistro itself upon entry has a lovely cosy inviting feel to it. Every detail has been done to a high standard and very well thought out, keeping a lovely Lake District vibe. From the interior design, to the roaring fires and the table lights, everything was top notch creating a lovely atmosphere.|We were greeted by a very friendly waitress who seated us and promptly took our drinks order a brought them over. Fantastic choice of local drinks and cocktails. Also a very well thought out and tasty wine list. Also she was very accommodating to our children making sure they had everything they need as a priority.|Now for the food. Honestly in terms of price, quality, presentation and creativeness there is nowhere better in the area. Everything was 10 out of 10.|I had the fish croquettes to start which was a take on fish and chips. It was the best thing I’ve eaten in a long time. Then for mains I had the beef cheek in filo pastry and a side of Shepherds pie as I heard it was amazing. It exceeded expectations and shows a great use of lesser known or used cuts of meat.|My wife had venison meatballs on mash with pickles. Again outstanding and also the kids food was really good too.|For pudding I had the cookie pie. You can tell a lot of work had gone into it and it was utterly delicious. Also portions sizes are perfect. I was nice and full and didn’t leave hungry which can sometimes be the case.|As I said wonderful creative high level cooking, using local produce. The service was 10 out of 10 too which added to the experience. The other great thing is that the Yan is great for anyone, from families to hikers to couples or even going for a drink and some food on your own. You have to go if you are in the area. We will be returning to try the Sunday roast as we hear it is pretty legendary.

Nothing more than I can say other than utter perfection from every perspective! This is our third year speaking Christmas at The Yan and it is nothing less than amazing year upon year. This year we stayed in The Farmhouse which was everything we needed … again the accommodation and facilities were outstanding! Kitchen was fully equipped to help us cope with 1 year old twins and the beds were like sleeping on clouds! Food exceptional (as always!)

The Yan is a unique place and must be tried for the fantastic accommodation and delicious food. We stayed this time in one of the new pods (new experience for us) and absolutely loved it. Sadly it rained a lot but we lit the log burner and chilled on the extremely comfortable sofa watching the smart tv. The king size bed and full size shower are wonderful, not what we expected and in the warmer weather there’s a lovely covered sitting out area to enjoy a glass or two! |Please try a pod, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you to all the team, we’ll be back!

Booked in for a Sunday roast we sat on the high table close to the kitchen.||Quite a few families with young children, they were exceptionally well behaved for 7pm on a Sunday.||We started with the chip shop croquettes, very tasty.|Sunday roast sharing board with beef and pork as our meats. Sadly both meats had way more fat than meat, especially the beef.|Saying that there was plenty of potatoes, veggies and huge Yorkshire puddings to share.|We finished with the Jaffa mousse which was delicious!||A wide selection of wines by the glass made it easier for my partner and I to choose.||Staff were friendly and attentive.||A lovely evening in a great location.

Second visit much different from our first sadly. Portions are very small for the price you pay , we had a sharing platter last time which was amazing but the lack of mash on the cheeky pie and weary couple of pieces of broccoli were silly. Pudding was fantastic but overall for two courses for two people at just shy of £100 was disappointing. Also it was annoying that someone was constantly photographing the food , there is surely a better time than during evening service to do this ?? Just reading some of the replies to reviews and I agree if it is negative then the customer is always wrong will not be back
