Where to Stay in Bangkok (Updated 2025)

"I liked this small ecological hostel built from old shipping containers with walls insulated using recycled paper; they don’t sell plastic water bottles but provide clean refill stations, there’s a big backyard with BBQs and free-use bicycles, and the dorm beds are comfy with privacy curtains." - Matthew Kepnes

The 5 Best Hostels in Helsinki (Updated 2025)

"Awarded “Best Hostel in Finland” three years running, I found this boutique spot a five-minute walk from the central train station and the priciest hostel on the list — but worth it if you want an upscale, centrally located stay. It’s newly renovated in a contemporary Finnish style that’s minimalist yet cozy; dorms feature wooden pod beds with super-comfy mattresses, privacy curtains, outlets, personal reading lights, and lockers underneath. The atmosphere is chill and quiet (there are no social events and staff are often absent thanks to self-check-in/out), so it’s best for travelers who prefer a peaceful stay or groups who aren’t focused on meeting other travelers." - Matthew Kepnes

Our twin room was very comfortable. We had a window we could open by which all of the singing birds greeted us in the morning. The beds were comfortable, and there were plenty of outlets for all our needs. The gathering room is nice in size and comfort, and the kitchen was well supplied. The front desk has limited hours.||The shared bathroom worked out well. The shower room is separate from the sinks and toilets. All clean. ||The location is perfect for getting to all of the various sights. The elevator works well. We couldn't have been happier.

Great hostel to stay in - central but not into loud of an area. Decent sized kitchen area and common room. Beds are comfy and there is plenty of storage (in lockers and the beds themselves). Boards in the common space with an overview of events happening in the area that week which was great. Only three showers in the hostel so there is sometimes queues. Also the hostel has a now shoes policy so make sure to bring slippers/flip flops. There is a basket of plastic sliders if you want to use them.

Stayed for approx 4 days at Yard Hostel on my solo city escape to Helsinki. It was one of the best hostels I've stayed in! It felt homey, calm and cozy. I decided to add a towel to my order after booking, and the staff were friendly to help me out with this. I really like that it's not a "party hostel", and the vibe in general is very calm. It's also a quite small hostel, so it never feels crowded. The location is also amazing and it's easy to get around town from Yard Hostel.

Stayed at The Yard hostel twice while visiting Helsinki and Southern Finland. Of the hostels in Helsinki, I do think this is the best one, but there are SEVERAL things I would note about it if you are thinking of staying.||Reception hours are 10am - 6pm. After 6:01pm, reception and any front-desk staff are unavailable until the next day. Regardless of issue, need or emergency. They do not check the WhatsApp number left or email left to reach them. I understand that not everyone works like we do in the US, but to work in hospitality and not even CHECK in, is really crazy to me. I have never had this happen in any other hostel I’ve stayed at anywhere in the world. I would rate this place lower because of it but I didn't feel "Average" really fit for everything I had to say about the hostel.||The hostel is very small and quaint, but definitely a bit dated in some spots. That said, the small kitchen area is great and overall well stocked.||I stayed in the 6-bed female dorm and overall had a good experience. To note, half of the hostel looks directly into a construction site, which will not be done soon (as of May 2025). So we cannot have windows or shades open because we are literally at level with construction work that starts at 7-7:30am weekdays. As of mid-June 2025, that open construction space has been sealed with glass, so it will be a bit better going forward.||Also, the mattresses in Finland are not normal mattresses. They are mattress toppers or camping mattresses on wood frames. I won’t lie, it’s not comfortable. At all. But for 1-2 nights it’s fine.||WIFI was strong throughout the hostel and I had no issues doing work calls when needed.||There are not enough bathrooms or shower when the hostel is full, so expect a wait, but I didn't have too many issues with this.||It’s not a social hostel by any means, but it has a good location and despite the construction noise, no street noise either. ||Despite these things, I would recommend it, depending how long you’ll be in Helsinki. ||And I would advise checking in during reception hours if at all possible because if there’s an issue, you’re outta luck.||Front desk staff is nice, the woman I saw the most who wears glasses was always really friendly and helpful. ||There are other reviews about people with check-in issues being unable to reach front desk staff so I had to comment on that because I had an after-hours issue and was SOL.

If you do not mind sharing rooms with strangers, this hostel in Helsinki is good for you.Luggage room is accessible by all customers, take your own risk. One shower room’s lock is broken and the door cannot be completely closed. A gap between partition is seen but can be covered by the shower curtain. Plenty rooms for showers.

Great location only a few steps into the city centre. Such a cosy hostel. Great atmosphere. Beds were comfy and had privacy curtains which was great. Would definitely stay here again.

I decided to stay here again because I was very pleased when I stayed there 2.5 years ago. However, my back hurt because the beds were too thin and unfortunately I had to check out without staying even one night. The cleanliness, location and calmness of the hostel are very very good. However, the smell problem in the toilets needs to be solved and the extremely thin beds need to be changed. Also, the beds are not numbered; it does not matter if you want to stay on the top or bottom bunk when you make a reservation. You can stay in whichever bed is empty when you check in to the room. If you have back or waist problems, definitely do not stay here.

Pretty chill location, but I arrived at 12 AM. No staff, no bed linens and no one to get them from, just a security guard who says he can't do anything. So no linens for me - just hope the last dude didn't have scabies. Great.
