A Three-Day Road Trip Exploring Florida’s Spanish History

"Continue to the town of Hawthorne for a dinner of frog legs and alligator at The Yearling Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge, named for the 1939 Pulitzer-winning novel by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, who lived a half-mile away."

Everything single item we had was the best version of it. I drove 2 hours from Atlantic Beach to go here and it's well worth it. No item is bad, it's all delicious. If you have any doubts about coming here, don't.

We stayed at the cabins for one night, and immediately went to eat here. Zoey was our server. She indicated it was her first night serving, and she did a good job. Incredibly sweet! I knew I was going to have those fried green tomatoes, and OMG, they are the best I have ever eaten. The breading was perfect. Not greasy. Even though an order of hush puppies isn't listedon the menu, we were able to order some. Again, not greasy and awesome batter. Husband had the shrimp and grits and "very southern" sides. I had the small order of fried shrimp. Everything tasted delicious. I don't eat fried food very often, and it didn't bother me afterwards, either. Incredible to wander around the restaurant perusing the books and memorabilia. Last pic is the cabin we stayed in that night. Very comfortable. Would do this again.

A trip back in time to old Florida. They have a Florida Fish Camp vibe. The fried clams were delicious (these are the only types of restaurants I ever order them because you know they do it well!). Definitely worth a visit!

Wonderful experience and excellent food representative of classic Florida cuisine. A beautiful place and a chance to step back in time to visit old Florida and the area where the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings novel was written.

One of my top favorite restaurants in the entire state of Florida for its “old Florida “ charm, friendly staff, antique/vintage decor, local history and books for sale, stage for live music, and of course, the food. I got the steak burger, and man was that burger GOOD. So much flavor and one of the best burgers I’ve ever had.

We happened upon this restaurant after visiting the nearby state park, so we weren't sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. The food was good, portion size was perfect and the staff was friendly and attentive. I will definitely stop in here again.

Great hole-in-the wall restaurant that's got a rustic flair. Everything I've had has been hot and fresh. Service is always great. They've got neat antique books for sale and cool stuffed animals in the back.
