Let's show our support for small businesses! I absolutely love leaving glowing reviews and championing small establishments. Recently, I discovered what I can confidently call the best pub in my experience! The lovely owners, Matt and Jas, are truly remarkable. Matt has been cooking for over 30 years, starting his culinary journey at the Ritz in London before embarking on an adventure around the world. Meanwhile, Jas has been managing front-of-house operations internationally for over two decades, bringing incredible expertise to the table. They opened an amazing pub called The Yew Tree, nestled in the picturesque village of Lower Wield. It’s just a 20-minute drive from Alton, Basingstoke, and Winchester, and only 10 minutes from Four Marks. Trust me, the food is absolutely delicious, and their wine selection is superb! If you’re looking for a cozy spot to enjoy great food and company, The Yew Tree is a must-visit!

Fantastic food, we were really impressed. It was so delicious, I had the beef blade and the jus in particular was incredible. Staff were so helpful and thoughtful catering for my allergies. Nice wee pub with good beer on tap and great friendly service. We are definitely going back.

Had a lovely lunch at The Yew Tree on Saturday, the pub was nestled in a fold of the Hampshire Countryside. The ambience was relaxed, attentive service and great food. The prawns had a lovely garlic butter sauce, I had the flaked shepards pie and my wife had the Fig and Goats cheese salad. All three courses were great and I had a pint of Hawkstone. We will be back! Cheers Michael

A stunning find⚡⚡ We both agree that this is one of the most charming English pubs we've ever visited (and Himself has visited a LOT🤭). We received a very warm welcome and we were squeezed in for Saturday lunch. The food was absolutely sensational and the chefs are clearly of a very high standard. The gravy was perfect, thick and glossy, the trio of sausages delightful atop tasty crispy bubble and squeak BUT for me the highlight of highlights was the shepherds pie🎉🎉 They used lamb chunks instead of mince, the mash on top was piped and then grilled. It was mouthwatering good and enough for two (or one with leftovers). The interior is beautiful, a nice combination of old English pub and the great British pop culture (ie. Beatles and Rolling Stones playing, lots of vinyls, James Bond art in the lavatories. We're already on a waiting list for tomorrow Sunday lunch haha!

Best roast! I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Yew Tree in Aylesford, near Hampshire, and I must say, it was one of the best roast dinners I’ve ever had. This charming pub excels in every aspect, from the warm, welcoming atmosphere to the truly outstanding food. The highlight, of course, was the roast dinner. The variety of meats on offer—chicken, lamb, and beef—ensures there’s something for everyone. I chose the lamb, which was tender, perfectly cooked, and served in a generous portion, far exceeding my expectations. The inclusion of sprouts, often overlooked in many roasts, was a delightful touch and prepared to perfection. The free cauliflower cheese was the cherry on top, adding a creamy, cheesy element to the meal without an additional charge—a rare and appreciated bonus. What sets The Yew Tree apart is the excellent balance of quality and quantity. Each plate is hearty, satisfying, and made with evident care. The roast is paired with crispy roast potatoes, rich gravy, and fresh vegetables, completing the experience beautifully. Overall, The Yew Tree delivers a flawless roast dinner, earning a well-deserved 10 out of 10. If you’re in the area, this is a must-visit for any roast lover!

Lovely pub down a country lane in the middle of nowhere. Unsurprisingly, it was quite busy on a Sunday afternoon. Food looked very good and must be recommended, as the restaurant was full. Nice selection of beers. Friendly staff and locals. Plenty of seating inside and outside (under a marquee). Car park and overflow car park.

This is really a fantastic little pub. It was by pure chance me and my partner found this pub, and what a treat it is. This is a lovely little country pub with some nice beers on tap. Seating out the front is good and under cover, aswell as to the side of the pub. The parking is very good, there is parking right next to the pub answell as 50yards down the road. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to have any food there as they were very busy but the food that was coming out looked and smelt great. We will definitely be returning for food.

There was four of us that arrived at, The Tew Tree a week ago. I had a chicken breast with breadcrumb, and three tiny asparagus which was wrapped in parma ham and a small dish of truffle chips. On the plate was a large gravy boat with gravy. A friend ordered from the waitress a glass sparking wine for me. When we split the bill between me and my partner, my drink was very expensive, and I paid £25.00 in total. The rest of the party, had paid for their own meal which was not very appetising. My partner had a pie that was small and not filling, for the price he paid. The way the waitress described the meal seemed more like a homemade pie. The sausages that my friends, ordered for there meal was dry and tasteless.

Yelp
This has to be in the top 5 best pubs in the UK! Truly exceptional drink, food and service. I would be going here more often if I lived more local to it. It's a little tricky to get to, narrow country roads, etc, but we'll worth it. If you wanting to eat I would advise booking and this place gets busy from the second it opens. Caters to all, especially families and has a wonderful garden and patio. Tim Gray is the landlord of this gem and is hands-on and welcoming. You will not regret visit this amazing pub.
