The York Dungeon

Hilarious, scary, and the actors were brilliant! We absolutely loved the York Dungeon! It’s such a fun way to learn about the darker side of York’s history, but the real highlight for us was the acting. Every single actor we encountered was fantastic—they were full of energy, stayed perfectly in character, and managed to be both terrifying and hilarious at the same time. The way they interacted with the group and handled the audience participation was impressive. It felt like a proper theatrical performance from start to finish. If you want a laugh and a few jump scares, definitely give this a go!

We had a wonderfully horrible time at York Dungeon 😂 highly recommended for disabled people especially as the staff were so helpful and thanks to their stairlift he was able to go around all the rooms in very old building. They even tweaked our time so we were with a big group and had a better experience. Lots of fun and certainly something to remember when they got my mum up taken into the docks. Lovely cafes and restaurants also nearby on the riverside. We parked in the shopping centre car park, but would recommend the one near the river as you could easily walk down the riverside in a few minutes to get to the dungeon.

The Dungeon experience was fantastic — the actors and actresses were fully immersed in their roles! It truly felt like stepping back into the 15th–16th century, making it one of the best places to relive that era. While the experience was engaging, I did feel that the performers could be more inclusive when involving the audience. Our group was small (six pairs), yet we seemed to be the only pair not selected to participate in any scene — something that could be improved. Overall, it was still a memorable experience. We even spent £20 for their exclusive edited photo as a souvenir!

It was a really amazing experience! The actors were really performing amazingly well in their roles, I loved the part where they would engage the visitors as a part of the show. 100% recommend as it’s worth every penny if you’re looking to do something different, have fun and also get a little frightened! If you’re not a fun of spooky stuff then it might not be for you.

We have it last Saturday, It was scary and fun at the same time. Staffs and actors are really great and gave 110% of their effort. The Witch definately scares the hell out of me, cant even glance at her🤣 We had great time!!

I visited today with my two daughters (age 6 and 7). I was warned at the beginning of the age recommendations and suggested suitability and after experiencing the show, I can imagine there have been lots of kids (and adults) having to leave during the performance. Please bear this is mind if booking for a younger child. We found the whole thing brilliant! The actors were excellent, the storylines just long enough to hold our attention in each room and plenty of well thought out “immersive” content. We laughed at the audience interaction and screamed at the jump scares….. my youngest needed the loo about halfway through and this was dealt with easily and without spoiling the content for the other guests, we didn’t miss too much of the show. We chatted about it all the way home and it has sparked some interesting discussions! I would highly recommend this attraction!

Accidentally booked wrong day and staff were extremely helpful and very friendly, thankfully they weren't fully booked today! Actors were brilliant and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Im still laughing at our photos! Bought them all. Highly recommend.

A fantastic and highly immersive experience with talented actors and an incredible atmosphere. Convenient location in the heart of York so it's easy to grab a bite nearby. We thought the audience participation was great and the way the actors interacted with people was really funny, they always stayed in character. This was a highlight of our trip to York and I can't recommend this more ⭐️
