"A Metropolitan Meal at Theatercaféen Known in business circles as a good place to ‘see and be seen’, this grande dame of luxury food destinations is set in stately Hotel Continental, smack-dab in the middle of central Oslo . At Theatercaféen, Afternoon Tea is served every Saturday and Sunday from 3pm to 6pm. They specialize in open-faced sandwiches and have buffets full of the stuff (shrimp sandwich is highly recommended!), along with cake and pastries. Warm lunches also available, as well as dinner reservations."

Outstanding taste! Starting with the appetizers, the focaccia, white asparagus and the toast skagen were phenomenal. Our main dishes of beef tartare with fries and the fish of the day (monk fish) were well prepared and extremely tasty! Highly recommend

Where here on 17th of May with the whole family. The food was great. 👍🏼 Suitable for vegans, vegetarians and pescatarians even tho the menu was shorter then it normally is. Drinks was amazing! Service amazing! 🤩 Thanks for everything! As always, great! 😊

This hyped up restaurant always disappoints with blunt food. The atmosphere is nice but the acoustics are terrible. I’ve had several dishes for lunch but it’s never worth the price. The Cesar Salad has four dry and tiny pieces of chicken and a lot of leaves. Unfortunately, not worth the visit!

Beautiful restaurant with high vaulted ceiling and a very elegant feel. Perfect for an intimate celebration dinner. Our waitress, Tuva, was very attentive and very sweet. Everything we ordered was very tasty with interesting flavor combinations. A little on the pricy side but well worth it.

Great location. The service was excellent even though we went at a busy time. The lunch menu is simple with light meals such as sandwiches, salads and the like. The heaviest meals would be the burgers. I had the egg benedict.

Usually when you go to a well established restaurant like this, it can feel like they just rely on reputation alone. Not here. All the food is fantastic and the service is impeccable. They clearly care a lot about always doing better. It is a busy, open floor plan restaurant so enjoy the lively setting and dine in a piece of history. I could not more highly recommend it here!

Stopped for a late lunch, no reservation. Beautiful vaulted ceiling interior, classy vibe. Had the Feta & Cucumber salad, had a bit too much cheese, likely feta but creamy, could have used more cucumber. Excellent, attentive service, multiple seating areas, did not see an elevator for an accessible restrooms. Lovely day to sit outside and finish a glass a wine.

Wasn’t thrilled with the service. Had a reservation but still had to wait to be seated, and then they just stuck us at any table. What’s the point of reserving? Additionally, the food was decent, but nothing extraordinary that explains the high prices.

Yelp
I used to love this place but there are bugs every home on the windowsills and floor.

Yelp
Expensive place for mediocre food. It's a hotel restaurant , so it's gonna be expensive...I had a chicken Caesar salad...nothing exciting. A little bit too much dressing, and they forgot to put the chicken the first time it came out. Atmosphere is nice. More of a business lunch type of place.

Yelp
Food delicious, service impeccable, surroundings beautiful. What more can you ask for when dining out? My dinner was a three course prix fixe of the day and I am not sorry I chose it. Halibut ceviche, Braised veal, and Soft serve ice cream and strawberries.

Yelp
The food is amazing. Highly recommend the Roe Deer Tartar, you can taste the wild and forest from it. The shellfish soup has a quite rich taste... you will love it if you like strong seafood flavor, I'm still waiting for dessert ...

Yelp
I have wanted to check this place out for a while and last week I did and boy it was worth the wait. I love eggs Benedict and the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon was beyond amazing. The sauce was pure perfection. This is definitely the place I would frequent for a special occasion. I would definitely recommend brunch or lunch here!

Yelp
Finally! A delicious meal in Oslo! It was a long time coming...but it finally happened! I came here with one of my close friends and her family during the middle of the week at around 2:30pm. The place was hardly crowded, but we had a reservation, so it didn't really matter. Truthfully, I had previously avoided this place due to the pretentious atmosphere of it and the fact that every time I ask about it, someone tells me 'the celebrities always eat there'. That is enough to deter me from any place (means the place is probably too fancy for my liking). I was happy that this place did defy what I had expected. A bit pretentious? Yes. But I was so thankful to only have one fork and one knife, and not a bajillion. For an appetizer, I ordered the 'Hummer Carbonara' or Lobster Carbonara. It was 195kr and considered a 'småretter', or small plate. Well, that it was not. It would have easily filled me up and then some. But oh my goodness was it delicious! Definitely the best thing I have eaten at any restaurant in Norway thus far. Since I had already placed my order for my Entre, I had to just make room for it. I ordered the Grilled Okse Entrecote. It came with a side of mushrooms, green beans, and bearnaisesaus. The menu said it would also have some fries...but I never saw them come out (and didn't complain because I was so full from everything else!) This plate was so-so. I'm not really much of a red meat eater, so when I do eat it, the meat must be cooked to my liking (medium-rare). This was pretty well-done. Definitely not the best cut I've ever had, but it was certainly edible. But I will give a special shout to their green beans. INCREDIBLE. My first time in Norway even seeing green beans on a menu (they are such a staple item in the US). Theatercafeet cooked them to perfection. This entre ended up costing 295kr. While I definitely preferred the lobster carbonara to the main dish, I have no right to complain about both. Service was excellent here and we got our water refilled without asking. Believe me when I say that that is a big deal in Oslo. The ambiance was nice. Not really my scene, but definitely someone's! As for the celebrities...that is certainly the truth. While I didn't know who any were, the people with me said the beautiful woman at the table next to us was Liv Ullman and the guy who walked in prior to us leaving was Morten Abel. No idea who they are, but Norwegians apparently do. This is most definitely a place I'd return to...especially if they keep that Hummer Carbonara around on the menu!

Yelp
This place is more 4.5 stars instead of five. The place looks like a vintage club where the elite would gather to lounge around and have cigars. The service was immaculate. Couldn't be happier with our server. It reminded us of the service back in the U.S. The food was great as well. We had the fish soup, ceprese salad, duck confit and a club sandwich. Everything came out perfect. The place is in the center of town and worth a visit.

Yelp
The flavors are tantalizing and not heavy to the palette. True flavors and quality food. The trout was tender and exquisite The filet was a concentration of flavor. The portions are significant and you will leave satisfied beyond belief. How can a French fry have so much flavor A wonderful dinner and truly enjoyed by all.

Yelp
Beautiful setting (old world charm oozing elegance), top notch service (helpful, not intrusive). Food was very good, but didn't bowl me over. Too salty for my taste (I had the duck). Got a pleasant table in the center looking outwards. Acceptable level of noise for a Saturday. Mentioned it was our wedding anniversary (second decade) but didn't get special service (some tables had birthdays and they got sparklers on a small dessert). One small hiccup was it took several minutes for them to sit us even though we had a reservation. We were just left standing by the bar, with no one to to greet us -- expected more from a fine dining establishment.

Yelp
we had nice time and the service was very good the decor is very nice and the food good great location because right in center we enjoyed the time there it is like old brasserie in France

Yelp
Had a divine dinner here last night! The place was packed at 21:30 and had a great energy. (acoustics aren't great so it was a bit difficult to hear conversations at our table of 8 but the atmosphere makes up for the noise) The deer was cooked perfectly and I think I said 'yum' after every bite. Service was excellent.

Yelp
I was pleasantly and happily surprised. I was a bit afraid the hype would be a bit high and the quality stingy. But I would have to say the hype isn't loud enough and the quality couldn't be better. I loved the service. They lost our reservation which actually worked out for us because they gave us a complementary bottle of champagne. Id say they can loose my reservation any day! We were promptly shown to a new table 5 min later, and our glasses were refilled and the menus graciously laid in our hands. I enjoyed the "Reinsdyr fra Røros" reindeer with brussel sprouts, bacon and mashed potatoes, and I wish I could tell you how good the rest of the menu was but my party of 8 ordered the same dish. We all loved it. No appetizers for us since we knew the meal would be large and we all split several desserts. I believe the Crème Brûlée was the least favorite. All in all it was a lavish meal with beautiful people watching and delectable food. I would go again and again with warm company any day.

Yelp
We went here after being told this us an old established and wonderful restaurant offering traditional Norway style food. This was without exception the worst dining experience we've had since we were force to eat at a Denny's due to time and location circumstances. The room is classic and beautiful, and the location in the heart of Oslo. The good experience stopped at this point, and in fact we thought we were in Dennys. Food, service, quality, caring, attention, and every other aspect of a meal were so poor they did not charge us, and it was still not worth the price. Perhaps it was timing circumstances, or something else, but the street hotdogs we ate later were far better. Overall, a very sad dining event!
