Theatre of Note

Great theatre produced in a very intimate setting. I was fascinated by how effectively they utilized such a small space. This is a group of artists that are very good at what they do and are passionate about giving quality to the audience. They perform pieces that are outside the homogenized fare in more mainstream theatres but still are enjoyable and entertaining.

Went to go see Fruition. It was hands down the best play my husband and i have seen this year. Absolutely riveting! Highly recommend! Would definitely come back.

Fun little theatre with a friendly and lively staff and cast. Saw SPECIAL, loosely based on the making of the Star Wars Holiday Special. A hoot and a half!

The company always puts on well-directed plays peopled by talented actors in intreguing new plays. I don't think I've ever had a bad evening there.

Just go! Delightful theatre experiences. Wonderful Actors, Directors and choice of plaus this season.

This business does fantastic work and shows that have deep social impact. I can tell this theater takes its social responsibility seriously. All the producers writers and members are super intelligent generous innovative and forward thing artists

Theatre of NOTE has produced or housed many solid shows over the years. I've seen solo shows, as well as Shakespeare. The black box theatre is a staple among the 99 seat venues that work their heinies off for little, if any money. It ain't easy, but they make it look relatively so. Theatre of NOTE has their own company, but other shows come here, too. They are one of the Hollywood Fringe Festival spaces, so there is at any time, several different shows in residence there. They have a cool lobby and bar, too. Some shows are PWYC (Pay What You Can), while others have a set price. I've probably seen five shows here over the years, and look forward to coming here. Modest, but comfortable seats and working A/C - gotta love that. Right off of Sunset, it's super convenient to get to and easy to arrange pre or post activities. Been a fan awhile, but just had never reviewed them before. So, go support local theatre. There's some great stuff out there, and very often, it's at Theatre of NOTE.

This place means some serious theatrical business. Interesting, well-acted, mind blowing business. LA is REALLY lucky to have this place. It's often hard for most people to associate great theater and LA together. Though this intimate space brings a dose of fresh and create energy to a non-theater based town that left me speechless. There shows will slap you on the face, punch you in the stomach and totally make you leave wanting more. Skip that fancy new resturaunt and go support this amazing group of talented individuals!

Always the most daring productions, always the best actors in town. If you are looking for where theatre lives and breathes in Los Angeles, it is at NOTE. Voted 'Favorite Theatre to Go See" by Backstage West voters!

disclaimer: i am a member BUT i wasn't always and back then, before i was part of the company, i was impressed. i mean, that's why i joined. NOTE represents LA Black Box Theater well- intimate, thought-provoking and a whole lot of talent. they also have been hosting the hollywood fringe fest, since last year's fringe debut, and showcase a wide array of talent. one of my face's is Ten West. i don't even know if i could describe it- part physical comedy, part interactive, part clowning. yeah. it's awesome. go see it!

First time at the theatre to catch the Young Writers Project and was impressed by the professionalism and supportive atmosphere cultivated by the staff and creatives... I'll be back!

I loved the shows I saw here as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival, and will be back to see regular season shows. Small theatres can be a good thing or a bad thing and in this case, definitely a good thing. Having one seat shy of 50, you become fully immersed into the show. The actors that I saw (who also regularly play at Theatre of Note) were fantastic and had us laughing out loud. A lot of the people in the audience were also great actors themselves. It was a friendly place with a great vibe.

I have had the chance to see several shows at NOTE now and they have been on a roll!! I've been quite impressed with the complexity of characters, styles, and overall unique approach. A great variety of works with a very solid acting ensemble...and they validate parking!!

Skeleton Stories runs till November 6, 2010 - beautiful piece of art...if any New Yorkers are out there, GO SEE IT! When folks talk about theatre in LA I think of lot problems stem from the idea that a lot of directors are directing for film, on stage. Boring. NOTE has done a great job with this piece, and really brings to life the idea of suspension of disbelief - one of the beauties I value most as a patron...yay!

Theatre of NOTE has some great plays in the heart of hollywood and throws some rockin parties - you can usually dance your heart out!

Overall, this is a good place to see live theater close up. I saw their performance of Titus Andronicus, and the acting and the dialogue were EXCELLENT. The theater is small, it seats about 50 people, and almost all of the seats are good for viewing the show. Most of the seats are only 5 or 10 feet away from where the acting is, which is quite exciting. The seats do have back support, but they are somewhat uncomfortable. In the show I saw, the costumes and props were horrible, but the lighting and acoustics were good. The actors are serious actors, and they do a great job. Overall, I really enjoyed the show. Disclaimer: I don't really know anything about theater.

A wonderful and intimately sized in the middle of Hollywood, always producing daring and gut wrenching work. They also host the Hollywood Fringe. Lots of talented people, highly recommend.

I got a chance to see Spider Bites at THEATRE OF NOTE and it is the best thing that I have ever seen in Los Angeles. It took me on a ride (and I am not one for emoting) but I sincerely left changed. I dreamed about the final moments and I swear some of the dialogue is still swimming in my head even days later. I know that we all go see everything and support everything at NOTE (that is after all our job as company members) but I felt it was necessary to publicly declare my love and respect for this piece. Every element brought movement and life: the lights are absolutely incredible, the direction is specific and artful, the writing is beautiful and poignant, the set design elements are so spectacular, the sound design opens the space up and cements the stories, and the acting is honestly phenomenal.

Theatre of N.O.T.E. does not fuck around. The best plays I have ever seen came out of this ensemble and or theatre. Jaquline Wright is one helluva playwrite. GO see the current show before its gone. Whatever show that may be. Although the piece up now is by Wright and goes through mid october I think. If All the best music and band's of the last 40 years were a playwrite, they would be Jaquline Wright. Also...they do ten 5 minute plays at midnight once a year. As weel as a marathon of theatre and performance that starts at noon and goes till 5am. Thats pretty fucking amazing too. The two or three Ive been at were sick. Wall to wall people, sardine can style, jammed in this space on Cahuenga next door to Chan Dara at 3am. Amazing stuff. One of the Best theatre groups in L.A. if not THE best.

This company is daring, edgy, does great work - and a kind (nice) energy about the people there - every time I go I feel welcomed. There is virtually no pretention about this place - good work to go see if you're a New Yorker looking for theatre in LA. This is one of my favorite theaters in LA. Not only is the acting ensemble fantastic, but they seek to work with writers who have a skilled, unique voice. Through NOTE I was introduced to playwrights like Eric Patterson and Dennis Miles...Destronelli a few years back was my favorite theater piece of that year. I've been reviewing theater in Los Angeles for ten years and throughout that whole time, NOTE has stayed at the top of my list.

Too clever by half, Kill Me Deadly, a spoof...ok I read the reviews in the La weekly...and wanted to take my girl to something a little different....and well ..."Good"...Let me start by saying some good things....some of the actors were worthy of Note, some of the dialog was ok, there was some chuckles, I liked how they used the door, the car, the scene changes were good considering the size, the narration was ok, now the bad, well it was a spoof...the over the top acting was at times painful, the jokes were hard fought, the theater was smaller than a thimble, it was a bad high school play...ok it was really my first La play...but please....I spent 50 bucks and I really could have used forty of it back....

I recently saw Kill Me Deadly at Theatre of N.O.T.E and I absolutely loved it! The story line was very creative and the actors were very funny...especially the girl in red. Although the theatre is a bit small, the set up and props were perfect which allowed the scenes to run smoothly. I would definitely recommend this play...get your butt out there and see it!

I just saw Skeleton Stories and LOVED IT! From the moment you walk in, you're transported to the Underworld. It's the perfect place to get into the Halloween spirit. The show is a bundle of humor with an eerie slant, burning bright with moments of poignancy. A great night out!
