Went and saw Legally Blonde on a Friday night in July 2025 and it was SPECTACULAR! The cast and crew put on an incredibly professional show. Hilarious, uplifting, and full of talent. Thank you to the cast and staff for curating such a memorable night. From taking photos with the Bruiser picture to great snacks and friendly service. Would recommend!

If you want the perfect West Coast summer night out then get tickets for Theatre Under the Stars! 🙌 Bring a picnic dinner to enjoy before the show in Stanley Park. Then settle in for some of Vancouver's best dramatic talents at the 8 pm performance - complete with a live orchestra. I've never been disappointed and I've been going for years🙌🙌

I was invited to the VIP preview night for Legally Blonde. This show is truly a masterpiece! This is such a feel-good musical! Seeing this musical under a starry sky is one of the best ways to spend a summer evening. Don’t miss out on THE show of the summer. Savoury chef had the tastiest popcorn and their desserts were nothing short of amazing—every bite was a treat! Awesome and awe-filled experience! Great view from anywhere and great acoustics. I even got to meet Abby Woodhouse who plays Elle Woods and she nailed the character! Top quality actors. It’s so uniquely magical to watch a much beloved musical on a beautiful summer night in Vancouver. It’s impossible to not watch TUTS production of Legally Blonde without having a huge smile on your face. The choreography; costumes; music; dance; special effects & set designs are as good as anything you would see on Broadway! Clearly a lot of effort is put in to make the show a wonderful experience. The high quality professional acting, singing, sets, dancing, setting were all just unbelievable and so high level. Flawless. The setting itself is breathtaking, peaceful and beautiful, providing a perfect backdrop for the performance. The combination of captivating performances and the stunning beauty of the park creates an unforgettable experience that resonates long after the final curtain call. There’s something truly special about the right combination of humour, heart, show-stopping vocals, lively visuals, high-energy choreography, whimsical set-design, and a catchy score— – and this is the exact combination Legally Blonde: The Musical so expertly delivers.  More than just a funny, feel-good show, Legally Blonde is a joyful, musical reminder that confidence, kindness, and intelligence are never mutually exclusive—and to always not judge a book by its pink, sparkly cover. The songs themselves are very fun, pop-infused, upbeat, and catchy: the kind that everyone walks out singing. This production is fun, vibrant, energetic and full of heart, and the team should be incredibly proud of the hard work they've put in. Bravo!

This was my first year attending TUTS, and I had such a great experience! I’m so impressed with the production of their shows, and the fun outdoor theatre! There are concessions for food and drinks, as well as a merch tent with a fun display on the history of TUTS and all their past shows. I wasn’t planning to watch CATS but grew more curious about the show and decided to give it a shot. I was SO entertained!! I loved the costumes, acting, singing and choreography. I’m so happy I watched it. 🐈 Then, on another night, my boyfriend and I watched School of Rock, and that was just as fun! Amazing singing and dancing…it felt like we were at the actual battle of the bands! 🎸 My main suggestion (if the TUTS crew reads these) is to give a warning announcement when intermission is almost done (so folks can get back to their seats sooner). Overall, my first TUTS experience was an exceptional one! I’m already looking forward to the next one!

Really enjoyed Legally Blonde at TUTS last night! The voices, talent and energy was fantastic! Very talented performers, dancing, singing, acting with some great comedy! A must-see summer 2025!!!

Absolutely incredible! Legally Blonde at TUTS Vancouver is a MUST SEE! It was hands down the best live show I’ve ever seen — and that rivals Broadway and beats Stratford productions. Abby Woodhouse as Elle Woods was phenomenal. She brought charm, humour, and powerhouse vocals to the role and completely lit up the stage (you can feel the energy in the audience)! The supporting cast was just as amazing — full of energy, talent, and perfect comedic timing. As someone visiting from Ontario, I was blown away by the professionalism and quality of this outdoor production. TUTS has created something truly special — if you get the chance to see it, don’t miss it

It is so great to have TUTS back this summer, and with two fantastic shows. This is a fantastic venue to enjoy musicals during the summer. You can bring your own picnic, or grab food there. The seats are quite comfortable for outdoor chairs (and if you don't find them comfortable, there are seats cushions available for rent). The outhouses are always really clean. All in all, a great evening out with fantastic shows and great actors.

Yelp
It was my first time at Theatre Under The Stars and...loved it! What is more fun that an outdoor musical show in beautiful Stanley Park with the stars above my friend asked? She was absolutely spot on and our group of four had a wonderful evening seeing "We Will Rock You" and even got to sing-along without getting kicked out! Fantastic venue, beautiful setting, fun show and helpful staff. Some tips: Parking/Bus: Two pay parking spots near Malkin Bowl. The bus loops is also nearby within a 5-minute walk. Food: You can bring your own picnic and have dinner outside in the lovely little garden or inside the theatre on the grass area or at your seat. Their Café inside offers hot dogs, popcorn, cold/hot drinks and beer/wine. At intermission, the bar/café was busy so plan ahead and pre-order your drinks. Venue: Ticket prices were reasonable - cost more for the front and less for the back. We sat at the back and enjoyed equally. Big plastic lawn chairs to sit. If you find the chairs too hard on your bottoms, you rent seat cushions by donation. I just sat on my blanket and that helped. As the chairs are outside, they can be dusty so bring a cloth to wipe before you sit down. Portable toilets inside the theatre's ground but if you want "real" washrooms they are located a minute walk off the site at the Stanley Park Dining Pavilion. Bring bug spray as there mosquitos around. Best to apply before the show starts. Being additional layers to keep warm. Once the sun goes down it can get chilly.

Yelp
Since this was our first year checking out Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS), we decided to get tickets to both of the productions: "West Side Story", and "Beauty & the Beast". The TUTS stage is located outdoors at Malkin Bowl, Stanley Park. Paid parking lots are available within a short walking distance of the venue. There are washroom facilities at the nearby Stanley Park Dining Pavilion, as well as porta-potties on site. Once inside, there are options to buy a TUTS blanket, rent a seat cushion (since the seats are all plastic lawn chairs), and shop for TUTS souvenirs at their gift shop. As for food, there is a garden cafe with concession items such as burgers, chips, popcorn, coffee, tea, alcohol, and other snacks. All of the hot food items are pre-packaged, catered items. We got some drinks and 2 cheeseburgers. The burgers came plain (just the bun, patty and cheese), but there was a DIY condiment table to the side. The condiments (such as veggies) were left sitting out and looked quite soggy so we didn't use any of them. I'd say if you need to eat, skip the food here and just eat elsewhere beforehand. It was raining quite heavily the night we saw "West Side Story". Their "the show must go on" policy meant that if you didn't pre-purchase the additional "rain insurance" with your ticket, you were out of luck and simply had to watch the show while sitting in the rain (or waste your tickets - no exchange/refund). They did hand out rain ponchos though, so that's not too bad. Aside from this dampener (literally!), the actual performance of "West Side Story" was pretty good. The actors were energetic, the songs well performed, and the band music lively. The weather was better on the night we saw "Beauty & the Beast". The set was also much more elaborate than that of "West Side Story". Colourful and gorgeous costumes, beautiful props, and all-around wonderful acting by all the actors. Lumiere was especially entertaining with his hilarious antics. I was smiling from start to finish because the entire musical was just such a magical and entertaining performance for kids and adults alike. Overall, we had a great time at TUTS this year and will definitely be back to check out next year's performances!

Yelp
Recipe for a Perfect Day: Mix together equally but sequentially - * 1 morning at a special Yelp event at Vancouver's Food Cart Festival * 1 sunny afternoon at Stanley Park's Third Beach and * 1 evening in Malkin Bowl, watching a stage production of Hairspray Bike between each place, ending with a late night ride down Denman, as you furiously try to research the hundreds of restaurants and bars you're whizzing by. My perfect day might not look like yours but I guarantee you can't err by giving over your evening to Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS). Each summer, TUTS produces two family friendly musicals, airing them al fresco in Stanley Park's tree surrounded Malkin Bowl on alternating nights. Sip wine while the sun sets around you as you smile and laugh (in the case of Hairspray) at the on stage production, knowing that it originally ran on Broadway and you're catching it at pennies on the dollar. I purchased the best seats they sell and was set back a whopping (sarcasm intended) $39 (American) per ticket. TUTS is currently running Hairspray and Oliver on alternating nights. Seating is in plastic lawn chairs for which pads are available for a donation of your choice (or none if you so choose). Ditto on the programs. And if it starts to rain, ponchos are made available free of charge. On my night at TUTS there was no hint of rain, just a gorgeous night that descended onto and around me as I basked in the joy of seeing something so great in one of the world's most gorgeous parks. I found the production to be 100% great, 0% amateur. Pre-show, food and drink are for sale for consumption in a small picnic area. Having sampled the Salmon Plate ($12.50 Canadian) I'd recommend you bring your own picnic and stick to purchasing only snacks and/or booze. Alternatively, bring in your own picnic food and drinks. I could be caught decanting wine into my cup during the performance; wine makes the show and surroundings all the better. There was something magical about biking to and from the theatre but if you choose to, be certain to have your post show ride mapped out. Post intermission the sky grows black and the park becomes very dark. I was able to find my way back onto city streets in minutes, but do plan ahead. If you want to picnic pre-show I'd recommend doing it right outside the entrance to Malkin Bowl. There's a gorgeous lawn area surrounded by flowers in bloom. I so enjoyed my TUTS experience and their Hairspray production that I briefly considered returning for their showing of Oliver. Overruled; there were other experiences waiting to be had in VC. That's true, but you really couldn't go wrong by making one of your adventures an evening at TUTS.

Yelp
It's a great event for a summer evening in the park. I enjoyed every bit of it from the racoon sneaking a peak with its binoculars in the poster to the outdoor production in a beautiful park. We went to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It was fun and entertaining. Just remember it IS a community theatre production staffed with teenagers so it helps not to be too critical. Seeing it with my partner who was a theatre major in college didn't help ... If you are running late from work, you can get your dinner there too and have an impromptu picnic in the park - burgers, hot dogs, wraps and even sushi.

Yelp
I have seen dozens of productions : ALWAYS gratified ! Spectacular location, excellent acoustics , enthusiastic actors, dancers and singers . Very accommodating and cheerful staff and volunteers !

Yelp
Be very careful that you can make the performance you have paid for. I was unable to make the performance due to work obligations was not permitted to simply switch to another date. I did this more than two weeks before the performance. I can understand that they have policies but they have ended up losing a patron

Yelp
My mind is literally doing BACK FLIPS just thinking about the wonderful things I've seen here! Summer 2012: We saw The Music Man. It was SPECTACULAR! Absolutely wonderful atmosphere for stage shows and a marvelous camp for children! I enjoyed every moment of this performance. The food stalls, mind you, can be quite expensive. But the people are friendly, and it almost makes the cost worthwhile. However, they do allow outside food. We brought our sandwiches, showed up 2 hours earlier and ate our dinner on the lawn -- equipped with plastic tables and chairs! Then, my husband and I discovered the amazing, colorful, chewy, mouth-full-of-heaven candy, that is: Salt Water Taffy. And that, kids, was how we became utterly and helplessly addicted. The ticket prices are very much in the high end of any scale, so if you're a student, take advantage of the student pricing! The only down side to that is the availability of tickets and seats. You see, you can only purchase student tickets AT THE GATE, ON THE DAY OF the performance. ***Bring your student ID! That also explains why we showed up 2 hours early! There were 2 beautiful seats right in the middle, on the very last row of the front section. We thanked our lucky *stars*! Otherwise --without the student advantage -- I'd still fork out the money anyway. Tip: Each year, the company produces 2 shows. The ticket to each show will get you a discount for the other show. So, keep your tickets if you're interested in catching both productions! TUTS really knows how to show you a good time. I can't wait to see another TUTS production next summer!

Yelp
Came to a showing of 'Singing In The Rain' last night and had a wonderful time! Malkin Bowl is an excellent setting and with the new assigned seating, everyone is able to easily find their seat. There were quite a few people who chose to sit on the grassy hillside where you can bring a blanket or your own lawn chairs. Snacks and a cafe are available and you're able to bring in your own treats. Not being familiar with the storyline, I was very pleased to find the show full of tap dancing, singing, and fabulous costumes. Big dance numbers apparently matched those in the movie and overall the show was very well done! There were a couple of blips with the sound where the characters weren't properly mic'd but this was quickly fixed and so not very many lines were missed. It definitely gets chilly here at night and it's highly suggested that you bring blankets and warm sweaters with you, even if it's a super warm day. They do sell sweatshirts and blankets if you forget yours and want to watch the show in comfort. For tickets, check the website as the first few performances of each show are at a reduced price and they offer quite a few deals for students and families. This season, Jacob and the Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat is playing on alternate nights of Singing in the Rain. The 2010 season runs from July 11- Aug 21.

Yelp
I went there yesterday night to watch West Side Story. That was a really really beautiful and fun show! It's pretty easy to get there, there's enough space for everybody. You are sat on chairs and you get a chair's number when you book so it's not messy! I really had a great time, and the weather was pretty good so it helps!! Maybe I'll go see the Beauty and the Beast...

Yelp
What a wonderful setting for community theatre! I took in the Joseph and Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat show and was impressed with the location, set-up, and staff. The show offered a solid performance by the young cast and even used an audience member throughout the show. Yes, they brought up an unsuspecting child from the audience and made them the star of the entire show - a nice touch! Chairs are well-labeled and arranged, making it a comfortable experience as well. You may want to consider a blanket or coat as it gets cool in the evenings. In retrospect, I could have used a slightly thicker jacket. And, don't forget some spare change as a concession worker walks around with a box of tempting treats ... I finally broke down and bought the Cracker-Jack. Surprisingly, they don't strongarm you on the concession goods -- it was only a couple bucks for a big bag of Cracker-Jack. Staff was friendly and helpful both before and after the performance.

Yelp
It's a unique summer event that's not to be missed. Featuring popular musical theatre shows, an outdoor stage is set up and seating is completely outdoors. Tickets are sold by rows, and they're assigned seats. You also have the option of bringing a picnic blanket and watching it from the hillside. There are snacks and drinks available for purchase. I've been to three of these performances: Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, Annie, and most recently, Anything Goes. I've always had a good time, live music, singing, dancing....it all works together resulting in a wonderful performance. It's a good idea to bring blankets and dress warmly, as it does get chilly later on at night. Also bring insect repellent. Check it out!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite productions in Vancouver. Every year the put on 2 different shows located in Malkin Bowl, Stanley Park. The plastic lawn chairs are not all that comfortable, but you can rent cushions if you want.

Yelp
Annual tradition, this years performance of TITANIC was epic! Loved it! Best so far out the three years I've attended performances. If you're a local or visitor make this a must. Tip - bring a blanket or warm clothes, once the sun goes down it can get a bit chilly - depending on the day's weather. Mosquito repellent may be required depending on the weather.

Yelp
ZERO STARS!!!! Been to 3 different productions over the years and always go to outdoor theatre in the summer at the Bard (crappy that they too have tickets for varying prices rather than one fee and you get your seat first come first serve). Tried to get tickets to a show and it was indicating online that they were all full in those rows with a couple of random single seats. Forced to choose back row and could not see a damn thing and need glasses! When arrived and stayed for show - 5 rows were empty with a couple filled here and there. The entire show was empty in many rows yet the online version shows full! The cost of tickets is outrageous since you are outside with mosquitoes (which is perfectly fine, but why so expensive? no set up and major design costs and stage is there permanently. There is no medium blend coffee just dark and disgusting. No creme or alternative to dairy for your coffee and only white sugar. You get to hear the constant sound of airplanes and float planes right overhead so you cannot hear the show well or enjoy it. Food stalls are more expensive than the bard including alcohol is $1 more. Why not make it for everyone but the wealthy? The seats are basic (still dont get the expensive ticket price) and they make you donate to get a cushion AND YOUR program (Who does not give out a program for free?). MY EMAILS WERE IGNORED (by 3 individuals) and the response by the fourth was you should have given us a call (1 week later). The place is closed on the weekend and ticket was bought in the AM (after midnight Friday). So many other issues....this place has no customer service and cares only for making money! PS: I got contacted with a bunch of excuses and literally no real explanation, no refund and no offer to keep a repeat customer happy ie. free or half priced tix etc.

Yelp
Every July and August, Theatre Under the Stars presents two musical theatre pieces in the Malkin Bowl Theatre in Stanley Park. Typically, they'll produce one comedy and one darker piece; this year they had "Annie Get Your Gun" and "Jesus Christ Superstar". I saw "Annie Get Your Gun" and it was excellent. The cast was witty, and the singing and dancing were, for the most part, superb. This is all the more remarkable considering that all of the cast members are volunteers - now that deserves a standing ovation! There is a lively and pleasantly fun ambience at Theatre Under the Stars, but do come prepared to be chilly; the shows are long, and as the sun finishes setting, you'll need a sweater or two. If you're lucky, you might get to see some critters join the show; on the night I went, a family of raccoons ran on stage, and, needless to say, they stole the show...almost!

Yelp
Brought my teenage girls and a visiting friend to TUTS production of Hairspray. We were not disappointed. What a great performance. The singing was amazing. We went on a Monday and saved $10 per ticket.
