On my way back from Banff to Calgary, I suddenly found myself really craving a Thi Thi Vietnamese sub, so I googled the address and drove straight over. While doing that, I came across quite a few negative reviews, which honestly surprised me. After reading them carefully, I noticed many complaints about smaller portions or changes in taste since the new owner took over.
As someone who has been a loyal Thi Thi customer for about 9 years, I felt compelled to share my experience. I used to work downtown and don’t like bringing lunch from home, so I went there often. I knew the previous owners well—we would always chat a bit whenever I came in.
When the new owners took over, I also had concerns at first. However, I personally watched them train under the original owner for several months. Since then, they’ve been consistently hardworking and careful with every sandwich they make. Early on, they even used a scale to make sure the meat portions stayed accurate, since they were still getting used to the measurements after taking over from someone who had done this for 20 years. That really impressed me.
I go very regularly—almost every one or two weeks. Sometimes I stop by for lunch, other times I buy extra to share with family and friends. In the summer, I even brought their subs on camping trips, which saved me a lot of effort cooking outdoors.
Honestly, I have not experienced any drop in quality, portion size, or taste. Everything has stayed remarkably consistent, and the prices haven’t changed either, which is rare and admirable in today’s inflation-heavy environment.
Thi Thi remains one of my favorite spots, and I’ll continue supporting them as always. Keep up the great work!
