After visiting the area all day round , we came across this place and decided to have a drink. So pop in. What a lively gem it is. All the staff were helpful and polite. They were offering nice drinks in cask and keg. Perfect place for din. So romantic atmosphere and happy vibes. Very well clean toilets even the whole place was awesomely great. We hope to visit it again in the future when in area. Surely recommend.

Had a lovely meal here yesterday. I had the Haggis and Brie burger followed by the cheesecake. My husband had the Chippy Wrap and then Sticky toffee pudding . 0% Guinness and Estrella washed it down nicely. Wr had the usual good service with the table serviced well but not overly attentive so there was time to chat. Music choice was as good as ever. Highly recommended

Excellent food! The fish and chips was very good nice crispy batter and proper chunky chips. The key lime pie was the best dessert ever. Staff brilliant very friendly. Excellent beer choices too.

Food was ok , would add a dash of sauce though without making the customer pay 4£ for it . Had the Flat Iron stake and a pint of the Hawkshead Great White . All was good , service was excellent, a blonde girl looked after my table , she was friendly and professional. Place was looking very nice and clean , great architecture.

Great pub, bit of a tardis to be honest, it looks pretty small from the outside but it's got a few floors, loads of seating for food. We called in on the off chance of grabbing some decent food and it did NOT disappoint. Food was delicious, service was quick, Staff were lovely what more can you ask for. Interior downstairs was a bit quirky, it was alot quiter than upstairs, which was an added bonus. 2 Sunday dinners and a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream to share, 2 pints of larger and 1 pint of coke cost 50 quid. Only downside for me, was there wasn't enough gravy,

Excellent pub with a fantastic atmosphere.we came in today for the roast turkey and both really enjoyed it except for the Brussel sprouts which were to put it bluntly inedible.my wife couldn't even cut hers in half as they were that hard and I did manage to cut mine just about but they weren't nice at all.On the other hand the turkey, potatos, stuffing were all excellent and for dessert I had the cheese cake which was amazing.i would recommend this pub for something to eat as the food on other tables looked so good especially the burgers.i wouldn't recommend the Christmas lunch tho

Stopped here for food by chance and was absolutely delighted. Atmosphere was good and service was great but it was the food that stole the show. We had the flatiron steak with peppercorn sauce and the Ebenezer burger and both were fantastic. Well worth a visit.

After a day out visiting the area, we came across this place. What a gem! My husband had his heart set on a Sunday lunch, and this place didn't disappoint! The food was top quality and cooked to perfection. I even found myself involuntarily groaning happily after my first bite of cauliflower cheese, simply divine! We shared the cheesecake as an extra treat, and again, it was beautiful. Great food for not ridiculous prices. We did temporarily get forgotten about after we requested the bill, but it was rather busy, so quite understandable. The staff were all pleasant and polite as well. We hope to visit again in the future. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place by chance when passing through. David Bowie themed with cool spaces, friendly staff and good food and drink. They had a sauce in the side that we can't stop thinking about. A+

Yelp
A quaint little comfortable pub you might like to have a sit for a pint and some dinner, quite pleasant. Came here in my mind looking for a fine English ale. I didn't necessarily find it, but I did leave raving to myself about the phenomenal salad I had for dinner: arugula and spinach with pesto, artichokes, sun dried tomato and pine nuts, a true work of art that I'll remember for a long time. Damn, how can I recreate THAT at home? Accompanied by a flat dark amber ale that had nothing interesting going on, but got consumed nevertheless. Appears to be a late afternoon watering hole gathering with a few comfortable couches but mainly table seating. Shame Yelp is so sparse in this town or I'm certain this one would have far more ratings. Loo is upstairs, no lift, sorry. Conveniently located near city centre.

Yelp
The food was absolutely beautiful however the service was non existent. We had to ask someone to take our mains order, drinks order and dessert order. We were given a 25min warning that our table was required to be returned whilst we were still waiting to be served our desserts. We had just put our spoons down after eating when the waiter proceeded to bring the card machine over and bill and tell us the table was needed back and we had to leave. We hadn't even had time to finish our drinks. We asked to speak to the manager, only to be told he was the manager. When we proceeded to make a complaint that service had been slow and we had repeatedly had to ask to be served his response was "Well I don't know why, I've been on the bar all night, but I'll have a word". No apology or empathy. We were presented with the bill and when we went to to pay, the they had added extra charges on as they had forgotten to charge for 2 of the 3 desserts, but there was no itemisation of these, so we were not confident we were being charged correctly or if this was an attempt to add a service charge on. When we refused to pay the additional charges as we had already received our bill, the waiter then tried to imply that it wasn't their bill, like I'm in the habit of carrying a printer around with me to print false bills off.

Yelp
Found this place randomly on our way through Carlisle. I'd definitely come here again. We got in pretty close to closing time for the kitchen but they were happy to seat us for food. After drinks we ordered the Pork Belly dish and the Roast Chicken special. Good stuff!

Yelp
Sometimes you walk into a place and just know it's right. So it is with The Thin White Duke, a converted monastery whose name is a doff of the cap to Mr Bowie. After a 12 mile walk along the Cumbrian coast this place had been recommended as a suitable place for restorative sustenance. On a cold, wet mid-week afternoon in November walk through the door and it was buzzing. A real mix - people after an afternoon's shopping, a family after school, a business meeting, 3 women on the champers and 3 soaking, tousle-haired walkers. A couple of hand-pulled beers on the bar got things going followed by a small but appealing menu. Nothing fancy, mainly of the burger/casserole type but do it well and it can be rewarding. So it was here. The Duke burger topped with goats cheese, red onion chutney and accompanied with thick-cut chips was delicious. My friends' fish, chips and mushy peas was also consumed approvingly. Finish with the ubiquitous Sticky Toffee pudding and it made for a satisfying end to an excellent day. If you're looking for a place with a nice, welcoming atmosphere and decent, homely food and drink you could do a lot worse. Highly recommended.
