surly amazing place oldest parliament in Europe in there one Around the year 1000 AD the great Law Speaker, Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði Þorkelsson, declared Iceland’s peaceful conversion to Christianity right here at Þingvellir. A unique compromise was arrived at which made Christianity the official religion of Iceland. Pagans were still permitted to worship the Norse Gods in private and the disaster of what could have been a violent civil conflict was mostly avoided. A flag marks Lögberg e. the Law Rock where the Law Speaker or Chief Goði stood to proclaim the law in the olden days. You will be able to stand in the spot where history was made – what a magical photo opportunity

Thingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland, is partially enclosed by Thingvellir National Park, 47 km east of Reykjavik.

Worth going to, skip the waterfall. If your are going to fish bring waders it's shallow and hard to cast out far enough.

Nice, but can see much nicer lakes in England where I came from. Don't go out of your way to visit.

Came here first thing in the morning and it was a very pretty and calming way to start the day! They have many small roads you can drive down to get different views.

What a cool stop! Beautiful small picturesque fissures off to the left of the back parking area. You can step right over small, 6 foot deep canyons on the trail. We could tell some of the poor Rangers here must be just burnt out from dealing with the sheer numbers of tourists because they speak very curt and have lost the characteristic wonder and awe for all of the beauty of the nature around you everywhere here. I guess Iceland is so full of nature lovers, we got so used to hearing bubbling respect and love for the wonderful locations in the voices of so many other guides at other places that we started to expect that 'excitement for what you do' from everyone. Not here. I would never have been allowed to speak to any customer at my job like I was spoken to here, and I have never felt that I needed to apologize for asking a simple question of someone who seemed bored and irritated by my existence. We had zero attitude directed at us anywhere else in Iceland throughout our whole trip. Sorry to be one of 'those' foreigners. We enjoyed the scenery of the quick stop very much so, but it was not worth the mood that was put on the rest of the day. I know I will be skipping this location when we return to Iceland, and that's a hard thing to say about ANY PART of this whole picturesque and glorious land..
