Thiwson Beach Resort

We had a wonderful relaxing 5 days at Thiwson Beach Resort. We were lucky to have a room on the beachfront which had lots of space to spread out, was very clean and comfortable. The food was nice, but there are also plenty of other dining options nearby (e.g. The Blue Tamarind and The Funky Monkey). The staff that worked in the restaurant/bar were lovely, and organised everything including motorbike hire, taxis and any other bookings. At high tide it is possible to swim at the beach and you also have the option of the pool. Highly recommend!

Lovely place with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Having your own private beach area is a real highlight, and the breakfast was great. I even left a brand-new pair of Ray-Bans in the room, and they arranged for them to be sent by boat from Koh Yao Yai to Ao Nang so I could get them back. I couldn’t recommend this place more highly.

My wife and I stayed in one of the Beach front cabins and both really enjoyed it. If you want a big 5 star resort with lots of things to do, don't come to Ko Yao Yai, but if you want a quiet, low key stay in a hotel with fantastic views, then Thiwson fits the bill. We didn't eat supper in the restaurant instead walked to the Blue Tamarind and Seaside Restaurant, both of which were good. We found the staff helpful and with the location of the mini mart and scooters for hire had everything we needed. Not sure what the resent poor reviewers were expecting on an island like KYY, but this was just what we were after and loved it.

Very disappointing experience. Location - It is just beside the beach and got nice views from resturant. Rooms - They were on other side of the resort. Rooms were ok. Need to remind the staff abt the changing bed, towels for hours. Food - Food was good but expensive. Understood as there are limited restaurants on the island. Staff - Very rude and mean. They just care about the money. Because of staff I will rate -1 for this resort.

Disappointing Experience – Please Read Before Booking During check-in, the staff seemed solely focused on collecting payment. There was no explanation about the room, and no sense of hospitality. Upon entering our bungalow, we found long black hair inside the fridge and a dead bumblebee under the lounge chair. The room was extremely hot, and we initially thought the air conditioning wasn’t working. Thankfully, it started functioning after a while. After a short trip, we returned hoping to take a shower, only to find there was no hot water. Someone came to fix it, but the issue returned later that evening when we tried to wash our feet—again, only cold water. The night was terrible. We couldn’t sleep after discovering a gecko inside the bungalow. While I understand the resort is located in the jungle, I still expected a basic level of service considering the price we paid. Overall, very disappointed. Please read the reviews carefully before booking.

Generally a nice hotel with decent food, nice pool and a beach with beautiful views. Cottage is fine if not afraid of insects. The biggest letdown was actually the staff, they never smiled, they never acted polite and seemed to be depressed. For a beach resort you would expect at least some general happiness with greetings.

Ordered the tofu with peanut sauce and it came with sweet chilli sauce. Told the staff and they brought some plum sauce, told them this isn’t peanut sauce and they brought some kind of burnt sauce and said they don’t have peanut sauce. Why put it on the menu if they don’t have it? I told them they should change the menu and say sweet chilli sauce if that’s what they serve it with but they didn’t seem to understand even when using Google translate. Was also very expensive.

Thiwson Beach Resort: Great Value, Huge Potential We stayed here for four nights, and looking back, despite our critical review, we really enjoyed our stay. This was mostly due to the island itself, especially this quiet, northern part—it’s fantastic. The room was spacious and clean, right on the beach. The view of the islands across the water was truly special. However, the water wasn't the best for swimming, and the beach is more of a man-made dock with some sand mixed into the grassy areas. Breakfast was "just okay," but much better than other resort breakfasts we've had. There were plenty of Thai options, which Mindy said were pretty good, but the Western choices were limited to an omelette station and some croissants. As for areas where the resort needs to step up, some are minor, like the beach chairs. We were really looking forward to relaxing on them, maybe reading a book under the palm trees, but they were always wet and loaded with ants every morning. We ended up just using our villa porch instead. The WiFi was also inconsistent at times. The major issues require renovation: the pool deck is run-down—we noticed holes and termite-rotted wood that felt pretty unsafe, especially on the stairs. Our bathroom also felt tired, dated, and definitely needed fixture repair. One last note: there is no room service, and while breakfast was fine, we recommend eating lunch and dinner elsewhere. We liked the Blue Tamarind (check out our review for that one—it’s really good!). We're being critical here mainly so management knows where to focus their attention, because this place has so much potential. For travelers who don't mind a few inconveniences but are looking for an inexpensive beachfront villa in a great area, the value here is definitely hard to beat. It was the least expensive beachfront villa we could find in this part of Thailand.
