Thomas Haas is undoubtedly one of Vancouver’s must-visit cafés. I only had the chance to try the almond croissant, and it was perfection—overflowing with crispy, golden sliced almonds and a buttery, flaky texture that hits all the right notes. As chocolate is their specialty, I couldn’t pass up the dark chocolate mocha, which was pure love in every sip—rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced. It’s easily one of my top three spots in town for mochas. Nice warm interior too. I can’t wait to return and try the other tantalizing treats in their display case, like the cakes, sandwiches, and pastries—they all look absolutely irresistible! Highly advisable to come early so you get to have more selection as there are plenty of customers throughout the day. Just got back and everything is as perfect every time we go. One of the best Vancouver cafes that has a long European history must try! —————————————————————— Came back here for the nth time. My now no.1 favourite cafe in Vancouver. I love this place so much. Every cookie, pastry, coffee, sandwich is all perfection. Even better than the best rated ones I’ve had in Paris/ or elsewhere. And yes I’ve tried almost all cafes in town as well and I’d say this has to be the top for me.

Google
The place has a nice terrace, heated in winter or cold days. The coffee there is one of the best, strong, and complex. Hot chocolate was very good but slightly too sweet for my taste. Staff is very nice, helpful and very organized.

Super delicious cakes and sweets. The Moroccan chicken sandwich is delicious.

Google
This coffee shop left a lasting impression on me. Everything came together perfectly—the location, the selection of pastries and coffee, and even the weather outside—all contributing to a wonderfully pleasant breakfast. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, making it the ideal spot to start the day. The staff was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall experience. The coffee was rich and flavorful, and the pastries were fresh and delicious. Whether you're looking for a quick coffee break or a leisurely morning meal, this place is a great choice. I'll definitely be coming back!

Google
The best almond croissants !! Probably one of the best in Vancouver. But the pistachio one was underwhelming. This is the place I would take out of town guests. Be wary that it is very small and seating is limited, it would be difficult to get a table for more than 2. Service was very slow and you have to ask for utensils.

Mary Lecitona

Google
They have amazing variety of desserts. Loved their almond and butter croissants, a must try!!! We had a really great time spending our afternoon snack here. Will come back for sure.

Google
Absolutely fantastic place to discover!! One of my biggest highlight of my trip to Vancouver. To the point that we managed to visit both location (the other one when we were staying in North Vancouver). The hot chocolate is made with real and good cocoa/chocolate at $5.50 for the small cup...which is big enough considering it's richness. We shared a chocolate cake with beautiful raspberry/chocolate decorations. There are some sitting indoor and outdoor, so we were able to enjoy our snack onsite. I wish I live close to this place so I can go back and try other items! Long live to Thomas Haas.

Google
Thomas Haas is Vancouver’s finest chocolatier, patisserie and cafe. This hot spot fuels the local palette 5 days a week, Tuesday to Saturday. Everything crafted here is done to perfection. Cakes My two all time favourites are the dark chocolate raspberry cake and the milk chocolate passion fruit cake. Both are tasty and visually stunning. Pastries Double baked chocolate almond croissant are delicious Sandwiches Moroccan chicken sandwich has a nicely seasoned chicken served on freshly baked bread. Drinks Café latte and teas are on point with good intensity of flavour. Street parking and underground available.

Yelp
As delicious as beautiful they look! This place has become one of my favorite places to go for an indulgent treat or fancy edible gift. They offer a large variety of croissant based items with a variety of savory and sweet toppings/stuffings. Their price point is very reasonable for the quality. Lots of layered flakiness and well portioned flavor additions. I feel you can't really go wrong with any of their choices. I've gotten several drinks from here as well but today was the mocha. It was one of the best I've had. Not overly sweet yet made with a good amount of chocolate. Alongside Mink it's one of my favorite places for a mocha. The seating is comfortable but can fell a bit squishy if a crowd builds up by the entrance and along the aisle. It also boggles my mind how they are closed on Sundays. They are closed Mondays too which are more typical, but I've lost count how many times I've wanted to grab something there on a Sunday only to remember they're closed.

Yelp
My Kouign-amann had a glorious surprise of Raspberry coulis inside! I hope it becomes a regular item.

Yelp
Spectacular Chocolate but much much more. Great service, friendly and patient since we were awestruck by all the delicious savory and sweet options. The ambiance was busy but not rushed or rude. We of course had a Pain Au Chocolat and a show stopping Pistachio Almond Croissant. Both were rich but flaky and not tooth achey sweet - perfect really. Their savory options were equally fresh and light and tasty. We had the Bacon, Leek, Cheddar and Egg and another one without the bacon. They both were the perfect start to our day and we took some chocolates with us for later. It really is one of the best Pastisseries I have tried....I may need to move to Canada.

Yelp
Not a big space, but there is a pretty varied selection of desserts and pastries as well as soup and sandwiches and a full coffee/tea menu on offer. Tables are placed very close together so there isn't much sense of intimacy, but even so I like the layout of the cafe. The tables are all placed near the windows so they get natural light, and there's this one corner that looked really cozy. There's a fenced-off patio area that's also a little cramped but still has those nice fresh-air vibes. Given that they're usually busy, I much prefer the tight seating situation over a scarcity of tables. The appropriately chocolatey tones of the interior are very aesthetically appealing. I ordered: Tomato & bocconcini sandwich: Also included avocado, which added a nice texture and didn't steal the show from the other ingredients, and roasted red peppers, which added little bursts of flavour. Very tasty, a little messy - could have perhaps used a little less aioli to make things from slide around less, but it's not like there was WAY too much as it was. Champagne truffle cake: Delicious! The very dark chocolate ganache coating was heavenly and all in all there was a very nice play of flavours going on here. The inherent sweetness of the cake was balanced out by the bittersweetness of the dark chocolate and the booziness of champagne. Iced London fog: Very memorable! Usually I pay attention primarily to the quality of the tea and not so much the vanilla syrup, but here, in addition to using a very fragrant earl grey, I couldn't help but notice the strong vanilla bean flavour, which was achieved even without using a ton of syrup to sweeten it. I'm very impressed because some places struggle to make the iced version of London fog properly unless they use tea powder, but this tasted like steeped tea and was perfect. In addition to the very good food, the staff here were all very pleasant to interact with, and it was a good sign to see many people behind the counter with clear roles to keep organized and on top of the traffic.

Yelp
I used to love Thomas Haas but they've made me an ex customer with their price increases and cost cutting measures. The last straw for me the new recipe for the chocolate almond croissant. There used to be a lot of chocolate and it was more solid in texture which convinced me they used their own chocolate. My recent purchase had very little chocolate and it was runny like a spread you find in a grocery store. If your going to increases prices, the quality better damn well be the same to justify the increase. Unfortunately Thomas Haas lost its quality.

Yelp
Wow, can't believed I've never reviewed the OG Chocolatier of YVR. Keeping this simple as possible without being redundant. My faves: Double Baked Almond Croissant, Hot chocolate, Chocolates. My rant: Pear Frangipane Compared to whole foods pear frangipane (which I haven't seen since 2021...), Whole Foods win. Why? (and I have made this before like 3X and I was very successful). The pear is to hard, and not poached properly even if its not ripe, you can cook it longer with a bit more cinnamon. The pear brine wasn't sweet enough. The pear was rubbery in the tart, with how it's placed so closely, it's suppose to be fanned out so ones fork can glide through it until you hit the tart crust with a bit of resistance. The almond frangipane filling had no almond flavour, that is too basic to skimp out. The glaze is weak also for the finish, you had a raspberry layer but no apricot glaze? I don't get it. Overall it was doughy and under seasoned with no pear flavour or almond flavour. My low review hopefully balances out the line up at the Haas Haus.

Yelp
Best almond croissants in town, but their prices are getting ridiculous. Most expensive in town. I will start searching elsewhere.

Yelp
Ordered a pistachio cherry tart which was lovely not overly sweet or tarty, it has been a while since i really enjoyed a dessert bought from outside, will have to try other's they offer.

Yelp
The cake here is solid. The chocolate is fantastic. Croissants are crispy, buttery and satisfying. Thomas Haas and crew are super talented. Their chocolate art display is always out of this world beautiful. I absolutely love the Blak collection. Still remember my first bite after my good friend spoit me with it on my birthday one year. I knew this is 'the' chocolate cake on my list. This round, we tried the yuzu mousse. Beautifully balanced in texture and flavour. Definitely light when you want dessert and had no room. The mango coconut mousse though!!! It is my new favourite amongst the many here. Pear tart also made a lasting impression

Yelp
For classic chocolate this is my favourite shop. They have standards, such as caramel with a dash of sea salt, and, extremely dark bars. My favourite for me is the whiskey chocolate, wince it's 2 of my favourite things. They are always busy, but the team gets you your chocolate in no time. They have lovely cakes and pastries as well, but the chocolate is always my favourite! The shop itself is a classic French feeling. A gem in kits!

Yelp
What a treasure to be able to savour such a wonderful dessert, really a pillar in chocolates, gateaux, other desserts and pastries in Vancouver for so many years, this creation is also a standout. Attractive to the eye, the vibrant colours really popped. The fusion of a classic seasonal fruit tart with crème and lemon curd was unbelievably tantalizing. We have gone to heaven with so much lemon curd, tart and sweet at the same time, great texture and so balanced in flavour, We fought for the last bite. The pâté sucrée rounded out the whole experience with a desirable richness and sweetness. The crumbly texture was a great compliment to the smooth gentle toppings.

Yelp
Purchased one of their large Stollen at Whole Foods West Vancouver Store. It was dry and I needed a microscope to detect the marzipan. I was planning on serving it to my guests on Christmas Day. So disappointed. This is not the Thomas Haas product I am used to.

Yelp
Sublime. Where do I start? The variety of viennoiserie left me wanting more than I could eat in one sitting. Light, flaky and with the right balance of crisp and buttery. The double baked chocolate was a favorite. The pistachio and traditional pain au chocolate satisfying. But it was the pastries that blended a smooth, rich and neither too sweet nor overwhelming that left us wanting more. Beautifully boxed for a trip over to friends for dinner. Then top it off with a hot chocolate to cut the cool winter morning and we are off to the races. Do I need to say anything more? We'll be back.

Yelp
One of my favorite bakeries, especially during Hot Chocolate Festival, it has one of the tastiest, chocolatiest, offerings and I've been impressed with them for the 2nd yr in a row. Other than hot chocolate, their double baked almond croissants are definitely one of the best in the city (currently priced at $5.5/each). Super oily though but I don't get it thinking its going to be healthy. Also try their chocolate bars to go; I like to pickup their Chai chocolate bar to enjoy later whenever I come. They've got several seats/tables indoors and they've got patio seating but its always full when I come so you do have to wait a little bit for a table to clear out if you want to dine-in. Free underground parking can be accessed by going to their back alley. But elevators don't work so be prepared to climb a flight of stairs.

Yelp
Came right before closing and I was lucky there were a few things left! Got the raspberry mousse chocolate cake and hazelnut cake which were wonderful as expected! Not too sweet yet extremely decadent, the cakes here are definitely a must try! I also picked up their last hazelnut danish and it is flaky, topped with almonds and again, not too sweet. I wish I had come earlier to try more tonight but I am more than pleased with what I was able to snag the last of!

Yelp
Thomas Haas had been on my hit list since taking a pastry masterclass with him back in 2004 when he was the Pastry Chef at Daniel in NYC.I always said I was gonna visit his shop if I ever made it to Vancouver...15 YEARS LATER! We arrived early Saturday morning, just before opening, which in my opinion is the best thing to do, for best selections! I perused the case up front like a kid in a candy store-macarons, bonbons, truffles, petite gateaux(little cakes), vienoisserie(breakfast pastries), and gift baskets and retail items in the back. This place is loaded! Unfortunately Chef Haas wasn't there until the afternoon, but one of the ladies behind the counter was very helpful in suggesting items that I may want to try. After debating, contemplating, and improvising, I finally pumped the brakes after she kindly replied with a little giggle, "Just so you know, you have 4 desserts and 4 baked goods" Glad I stopped there because when our order came up, there were no trays and everything was plated individually which filled our little table to the limit! Patrons in line did double takes and comments like "Oh my, he's definitely got his hands full!" and "That's quite a spread!" were heard LOL!!! We shared the Pull apart loaf, Kouign Amann, Ham and Cheese Croissant, Cherry Turnover, Special of the Week, Black Forest Cake, Mascarpone Mousse Cake, and Almond Pear Tart. Each and every bite was delicious and my Maple Latte was a perfect accompaniment to our breakfast of champions. The service and staff were very pleasant and the variety of items were great (come EARLY for best selections!), price point is perfect, and it's not too far from Kitsilano Beach were we took in the scenery afterwards. ALOHA!!! SHAKA METER: \uuu/ \uuu/ \uuu/ \uuu/ \uuu/ 5

Yelp
Their desserts are to die for, but the ambiance and layout of this place are unnerving. Upon entering you are greeted by the ever-present grey three tiered plastic bussing dolly loaded with bus bins and dirty dishes set just outside the front door. The indoor seating area primarily consists of a grouping of tables and a stationary counter with chairs which do not leave the room needed for the endless stream of customers to walk around, resulting in being bumped by each one as they walk by or access the bathroom. If you're just there for take-out you're smothering and bumping into the seated. There is some outdoor seating, if you're up to hanging out with that dish and bin laden dolly. The staff work hard with the tiniest sliver room behind the counter. Not sure why all this gets overlooked by the regular smug elite who flock there.

Yelp
Delicious, quality chocolates, amazing food, a cozy vibe and absolutely out of this world service. Thomas Haas Kitsilano is one of my favorites and go-to for chocolates! Everything is perfectly balanced and the staff really know their menu well. The hot chocolate is always made to perfection, and pairing it with a nice light passion fruit mango cheesecake is the way to go! I love how the cheesecake was just the right size and not too dense or sour either. I highly recommend!

Yelp
What stood out to me is how friendly and helpful the staff are. I would recommend their double-baked croissant. It's about $6.50 but I think it is worth it! It is a decent size and definitely filling! The macarons are also really yummy. It is an overall excellent boutique bakery and cafe that is worth checking out

Yelp
We are not locals of Vancouver but every time we visit here we come to Thomas Haas Chocolate! They have great small bites, coffee, and chocolates! We love the mocha and chocolate milk here! Everything is absolutely great!! We were here today and will definitely be back again when we visit!

Yelp
Staff are super friendly! And I'm a big fan of their double baked almond croissants. Their soufflé is a good take away option since you can always heat it up following the instructions on their box :) They have a cosy little patio area with 3 tables outside :)
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
I think this place has probably improved over the years . I enjoy their cakes. It wasn't too sweet and definitely decadent. The chocolate raspberry log was quite good.
google avatar

Earnie G.

Yelp
The pastries here are first rate, and the interior design is modern and appealing (look at that ceiling!). Service is efficient and friendly, but there can be a wait when the relatively small cafe/shop becomes busy. Chocolate creations are clever. Some are more for looks than taste. But the truffles and other taste creations are good. Overall, worth a visit. And it's a good thing I don't live in Vancouver, or I'd be in here all too often.
google avatar

Yelp
This was my second stop on the 2018 Hot Chocolate Festival. I am not sure why I have never been here previously. The presentation of the baked goods, savoury and sweet items is impressive. The service was exceptional. Thomas Haas had two options available and I ordered the Snowball Fight in Chamonix: A 49% hot chocolate with chestnut served with a chestnut and coconut rum snowball truffle and chocolate shortbread. I liked the whimsical concept and how they tied it all together. The shortbread, truffle and hot chocolate were all excellent...and it kept me wanting more. The only challenge is finding a seat as this place is so popular and seating is quite limited. I did manage to eventually secure a seat inside...yeah. It was a very positive food experience and happy to recommend Thomas Haas...have to return to try those almond croissants.
google avatar

Vanessa Y.

Yelp
I've been here years ago and haven't been back since as it's quite out of the way for a "coffee shop". I was back here again and the place was bumpin' on the weekend. Not only was there a line up for ordering/paying for items but there was a line up for picking up your hot drinks as well as a bunch of people trying to find seats indoors. While they do have heated outdoor seating, if you are someone who runs cold though, I highly recommend sitting indoors as I could not feel the heater. The store is quite small but there is a display of products on the shelves; the prices aren't super clear though so if you have questions, best to bring it to the front and ask about it! When you place your order, the staff will write down your order on a dry erase sheet and if you get something from their case or are purchasing an item, they'll give you that first and you'll have to wait in a separate line for the drinks, if you order any. Overall, while they do have seating here, I didn't find this a comfortable place for a catch up session as there were so many customers going in and out. The space is small so the crowd of people when there are line ups can get overwhelming and there were always people hovering around to see if you're leaving so it made it unpleasant to sit and have a drink. We made the amateur mistake of ordering separately and it took over 20mins to get my drink because there was only 1 barista handling all the drink orders. I can understand why there's so many to-go cakes because that's probably what I would do the next time I'm here. Definitely not a place to treat as a cafe; it's too busy (since they're also closed on Sundays)
google avatar

Mina P.

Yelp
This is a great place for pastries! I love their double baked almond croissant. So decadent and tasty. Their sandwiches are quite tasty as well as are their coffee drinks. There is not much seating but if it is a nice day and you can get seats outside it is a great place for people watching.

Yelp
I have SO much love for this place. The coffee and pastries are just perfect. We recently picked up our wedding cake here (made by Thomas himself) and he really knocked it out of the park. His passion and dedication for his products really shows through in execution and quality. Our custom two tier almond mascarpone cake was covered in a white chocolate glaze and decorated with delicate white chocolate lace. It was a huge hit at our wedding and our guests couldn't stop raving about how delicious it was. Home run for Thomas Haas!

Yelp
Great pastries, horrible service, mediocre cake base, good ganache, terrible hot chocolate, decent chocolates, but mostly fillings. Pastries--love double baked almond croissant, pain au chocolat, brioche and orange blossom brioche. Turns out, have to order ahead for brioche Service--many experiences by friends, family and me of rude, arrogant treatment. Missing and mixed up orders. Today, I was coldly asked what I was waiting for (hot chocolate), informed I did not order, ignored while I held out my receipt, informed I did not order almond milk (I did). Drink was sullenly served, and I had to ask to confirm it had almond milk (health issue). No apology or admission of error. In the end, the drink was small (I asked for regular) and thin. A little better than machine hot chocolate. Much better at Blenz. Cake base/ganache-- Love passionfruit, raspberry and manjari chocolate. Fillings are yummy and ganache is rich but not heavy. BUT the actual cake part is terrible, grainy and dry. Multiple family members have experienced condescension and scolding from staff, not to mention mixed up orders (including an entire cake missing). Beginning to wonder if it's race or class based (Asians, working/professional class). We're all thinking of boycotting. Need to find comparable pastries/brioche somewhere, though. Chocolates--very good, but years ago, like everyone else, they started reducing the portion of chocolate to filling. So you're getting mostly filling coated in chocolate. Nowadays, I just buy straight chocolate, no filling from most places.

Yelp
Very small place but the food, chocolate, pastries and coffee makes up for the lack of space and makes it worth it. I visit this place every time O am visiting Vancouver. Must try for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
I have to admit the selection of macaroons, chocolates, pastries and cakes is really fantastic! I am obsessed with almond croissants and what makes the croissants here so unique is that they are dense, heavy and amazing flavour of almond paste! It felt like a mini meal and would pair soo well with a tea! Hot chocolate was a bit much with all the other desserts. Happy to see this cafe participating in the hot chocolate festival: "2021, here we come" was 10/10 (Fresh and bright white hot chocolate with passion fruit and passion fruit pâte de fruit)

Yelp
Best pastries there is! Gorgeous to look at and amazing to eat! Don't miss their famous double baked almond croissants- enormous with tons of almonds and stuffed with almond paste! Cherry turnovers also great. Pastries are stunning and love the tiramisu one when they have it. Also not to miss are their dark cake and bars, cherry pistachio, and passion fruit chocolate cakes. My only complaint is their box doesn't protect them and they r always mushed by time I get them home- some kind of section or partition to keep the pastries from moving around inside the box - also it's not easy to carry the box either they went for looks not practicality..stollen at easter and beautiful Easter eggs and bunnies also.

Yelp
Back in the 90's an old friend would fly several times between Vancouver & Toronto. I had only 1 request of him - bring me back a half dozen Almond Croissants! To this day I truly believe those were the best tasting croissants I have ever had in my life!!! Wish I had the name of that TO bakery - think it was on Church St.! It's not uncommon to come into TH & leave with 2 tins of goodies costing over $100! So bring lots of cash if you drop in! I ordered the Double Baked Almond Croissant & the classic Hot Chocolate. So I found the croissant to be ok. It's very filling & TH is not stingy with its almond shavings on this croissant! I think I would have preferred it warmed up slightly to soften it as I found it very chewy. If you're dressed up beware - be careful as I got bits all over my cloths & the sprinkled white powder from the croissant was all over my jeans! LOL Don't get me wrong - it was still tasty I just would have liked to savour every bite in my mouth but couldn't cause I kept chewing it up to break it down. The hot chocolate was smooth & just ok. I love TH because it offers various treats & really there's no way you can leave here saying - 'I couldn't find something I liked!' I still give TH top marks for presentation, cleanliness, & great variety! Besides TH is a Vancouver mainstay & deserving of high marks!

Yelp
Visited Thomas Haas on a Friday afternoon (around 1). No lineup when we got there but there was a lineup after we had gotten our food. We had the iced passionfruit tea, ham and cheese croissant, pain au chocolate, croissant, hazelnut Danish and creme brulee. Overall the ham and cheese croissant and the regular croissant were my favourite. The ham and cheese has a very distinct cheese flavour somewhat smoky. The croissant is nice and crispy. Lots of layers - good lamination. Usually I would get their double baked almond but they had just sold their last one which was disappointing. My least favourite was the hazelnut Danish. I couldn't taste any of the hazelnut and the raisins made the danish extra sweet. The creme brulee we had was very creamy and not overly sweet. It was also very cute and came in a reusable jar. Overall would recommend Thomas Haas for their croissants. The prices are decent and lots of variety available.

Yelp
Incredible food and treats. Outstanding service. Our family has been coming to both locations for coffees, food and sweets for years, and we can't thank you enough.

Amazing pastries and chocolates ! Croissants are too dry ! Not good. Very good strong coffee. Plenty of seats inside and out.

Yelp
I love desserts and will always say yes to all sweet goodies. We went here one rainy day as a friend told us about it. It's packed when we came and it was not even after work-hours so that says a lot. When I came in, I saw this cute, clean, cozy place; with an array of chocolates and truffles on display. The smell of coffee was all over the place; it was fragrant. I loved all the pastries we ate and we matched them with coffee. Everything was delicious, and I wish they had a downtown location! The pastries were not too sweet and the coffee was not overpowering. The crispness and the balance of the taste was really amazing. I will definitely return!

Yelp
Thomas Haas Bakery is a gorgeous store in a lovely neighbourhood. The pastries, however, are more exceptional than its vicinity. Tucked away among the myriad of commercial buildings on Broadway is an otherworldly store. Its molecular decor is exciting and energizing and takes you to the essence of baking and chocolate. On our visit their we had their kouign amann, a French pastry, hazelnut danish, and pain au chocolat, a chocolate croissant. The multitudinous layers of the amann varies between three delicious crunchy, fluffy, and sweet custard-like layers. The crunchy caramelized sugar on top brought the entire pastry together. The hazelnut danish subtly demonstrated the power of hazelnut by itself, forming a fluffy cake-like pastry with multiple rings. The fluffy layers of pastry and hazelnut were harmonious and delectable. I had the most fun with the pain au chocolat because it is such a simple pastry, yet the two main elements--the chocolate and the croissant--bond in an ultimate pairing of the taste buds. Needless to say I savoured every bite of it. Moreover the service was expedient and friendly. This place will always be on my mind when I want a scrumptious pastry.

Yelp
It was my favourite place up until today. The desserts are indeed amazing, but some of the staff are just rude. With my hands full with a birthday cake and many other desserts, I asked the drinks girl for help with a lid for the hot chocolate ordered to go. There was no space whatsoever for me to put the desserts down and go grab a lid. I couldn't even have the stroller with my baby inside the shop due to how busy it was. Not only that she didn't help, she rudely shrunk her shoulders saying that is not her business and I can go to the car first... car parked 2 blocks away. I told her that she can have it in this case, she said 'great' and turned her back. I left with my eyes in tears and still can't believe such a fantastic place can hire people so unfit for a customer service first environment. Very, vey disappointed and frustrated. It cost me $120 to have my Saturday ruined.

Yelp
One of my go-to places for relaxing with a nice cup of Americano. So smooth!!! Tastes amazing right down to the very last sip!!! Their chocolates and pastries are delicious too! I would rank this place one of my top three cafe's in Vancouver. The other two being: 49th Parallel and Milanos. Definitely a must try for visitors from out of town and those who appreciate great quality. You can really tell, Mr. Haas and his friendly staff are passionate about their: Coffee, Chocolates and Pastries. Being really popular, this little cafe can get quite busy. However, lineups go by fairly smoothly and quickly. Seating is limited. They do have a covered patio for those sunny afternoons. It doesn't always rain in Vancouver!!! :P Highly recommended! Excellent quality! You'll leave their place feeling better! What are you waiting for? Just go!!! :)

Yelp
Ordered an earl grey tea. They gave me a rooibis tea. I told staff that we ordered an earl grey, but all the team members said the cashier confirmed twice that I said a rooibis tea and refused to exchange. I don't even know what rooibis is. Great customer service.

Yelp
I came here the second time to enjoy some sweets. This chocolate store kept the good quality and maintained their standards. I ordered an almond mascarpone and champagne truffle. They were excellent!! Almond mascarpone was quite light, fluffy and soft that I didn't feel too filling or sweet. It was about right! The champagne truffle had different layers of chocolates. Yummy! It was irresistible! Chocolate lovers should order the champagne truffle. Now Vancouver is having the hot chocolate festival. Thomas Hass has Mumbai meets Paris and Caribbean for this festival. I ordered Mumbai meets Paris. It was a great combination of both chai spiced 62%dark hot chocolate with the orange and Grand Marnier Chantilly, Praline. The customers kept coming into the store and bought sweets, pastries and cakes. The boss Thomas Hass was there to help out and even fixed the door that made squeaking noise. There were other options such as macaroons, bread and croissants if you didn't like cakes and other pastries. It is great to come here with a date or a small group of friends to enjoy the sweets.

Yelp
We ordered take out as all the chairs were taken despite it being 2pm. We ordered the matcha latte which was okay. We also ordered the double baked almond croissant, which we were excited to try as we saw many reviews highly recommending it. We tried the croissant in the car and before we even took a bite the smell of butter completely took over. I couldn't eat more than two bites as it felt like I was taking a bite out of a stick of butter. We also ordered some pastries: matcha Yuzu cake, special of the day (some kind of chocolate fondant cake), and a peach tart. The peach tart was similar to the croissant -reeking of butter. The matcha cake was nice, but I'm not a fan of the sour filling. My favorite was the special of the day. However, nothing we tried is going to entice us to make the drive all the way back.

Yelp
The best almond croissant I had in Vancouver. It is almost as good as the ones we have in Montreal. If you have never this, try it - in the morning, in the afternoon or after work, just take a dare and have it. You will never regret it.

Yelp
Absolute chocolate heaven! This chocolatier has pastries galore including sandwiches. They sell daily handmade chocolates in almost 30 different flavours to choose from, roughly 15-20 pastries on any given day including a special, sandwiches which come out I believe at 11 or 12, and of course a very wide variety of specialty desserts including roughly 20 different macaroons. They serve speciality coffees and a creamy hit chocolate topped with a chocolate heart. They also have a wall stocked with basically chocolate art! It varies between what season and holiday is nearby for the designs and types of chocolate (Easter is particularly my favourite). They have cookies, chocolate bars and ice cream! I've never gone in and came out disappointed, I do wish they had more seating as it can get quite crowded especially right at opening. However it gives the place quite the charm I think, there is extra outside seating as well. Did you know the chocolate design on the ceiling is actually the chemical sign for chocolate and not a weird shaped honey comb?! The parking is atrocious here though! There is a bunch of street parking but on the weekend it can take some time to find a spot.

Yelp
I had their Blak chocolate bar with whisky. The taste of whisky was strong, but the taste of the 77% bean to bar chocolate was not intense. The difference between this dark chocolate and the regular dark chocolate was not discernible in taste. When I asked the cashier about the four flavors of the four Blak chocolate bars inside the box, she opened the box to show them to me. I was surprised she did that because if she did not know the flavors, she could simply asked her co-workers or picked up the sample box on the glass shelf (which was already opened) and showed it to customers. The fact that she opened a new box of chocolates to show it to customer was unhygienic and unprofessional. Moreover, she threw something over the customers who were sitting at the table, to her co-worker who was standing by the shelf against the wall while processing my transaction. Then she said, "I play basketball" with a smile to her co-worker beside her. She should not have thrown something over customers. It does not make a fine patisserie and a chocolate shop looks good.

Yelp
Here for the "Snowball Fight in Chamonix" hot chocolate paired with a chestnut and coconut rum truffle and chocolate shortbread. I was not disappointed. One of the richest and most decadent pairings so far for me. The hot chocolate was smooth and velvety to the last drop and the truffle and shortbread really enriched the experience. I also liked how the sugar sprinkled on the cookie added another layer of texture to it. For a shortbread, I would have preferred it a bit thicker. It was more like a crunchy cookie. Well done, Thomas Haas. Of course, with such a famous reputation for their chocolates in the city, I expected nothing less. Their pastries looked tempting as always, but I had to remind myself I was here for the hot chocolate. Next time.

Yelp
I love stopping by here after my Saturday morning workouts :)- It has become a bit of a ritual for me to make a stopover at this bustling patisserie to grab breakfast and sometimes a little treat for after dinner. I especially love the cheese danish for breakfast and everything that I have ever bought for dessert. The coffee and espresso are also very good. When I have time to dine in, a hot bev and pastry at a cozy table is one of the most luxurious ways to spend a lazy weekend morning. The yumminess makes the calories, long lines, tight space, and lack of parking worthwhile. The staff here are lovely despite the constant crowds and they get everyone served pretty quickly. Of course, I also must mention their chocolates. The chocolates are beautiful and so delicious. My wife is always sure to load up at Christmas time to give away as gifts...everyone loves em. And we're always happy to receive Thomas Haas chocolates as gifts too ;)

Yelp
I decided to try out her chocolate as it seemed to be pretty popular in the city. I have to say that I don't find the chocolate to be that anything special at all. I know people LOVE this place, but the chocolate really doesn't taste like anything that special. May be better than other chocolate places (I put Thierry as the best) but not to the level I was expecting.

Yelp
I was craving for a coffee and chocolates after lunch. We went there after 2.30pm, they were extremely busy and we saw the long line up before we went in. I wanted to get double baked almond croissant and coffee to go. After 10 mins line up, the almond croissants was sold out. I was so disappointed and got few chocolates to compensate for long line up.
