Excellent museum and presentation of the life of Thomas Wolfe .The highlight is the tour of the house which is nicely preserved. You get a great sense of what it was like for him to grow up in a boarding house and what a impact it had on his life and his literature. The tour guide was knowledgeable and personable.

I love this place “The Thomas Wolfe House Memorial and Museum” is a great place to stop while in Asheville. The museum and film are free to view but house tours are $5 plus sales tax. The tours run every hour starting at 9:30am and the last at 4:30pm. The guided house tour takes around 45 minutes. The introductory film about Thomas Wolfe's life runs about 20 minutes and provides a lot of background information. The Museum is also very informative. I liked the new exhibit that showed how the house was originally and then how it was after the first additions and the second additions. 1 had an informative guide that provided me with a good sense of what it was like growing up and living in the boarding house. The house is well kept and filed with many historical treasures. There is a small gift shop in the museum that sells books about Wolfe; Wolfe's books; toys; photos and postcards. Free parking in front of the house.

The best part of our trip. This is an excellently preserved house with exquisite original furnishing and an amazing story to tell. We took the tour with Kayla and it was an incredible look through the history of a private business run by a woman in the early 1900’s and a world famous setting to the book by Thomas Wolfe. The house is incredibly well preserved and the rooms while sparse are designed for making money for the proprietress, not visual beauty though often they are. In comparison to Biltmore in the same city it’s night and day in the sense of tactile and realistic portrayal of a human life. This is a scale that is easily recognisable to most. Also very cheap at only five bucks a head while Biltmore is like Disneyland trying to fleece you for everything you’ve got. They have his mother’s dresses and his sister’s high school diplomas for pete’s sake. Astounding experience.

Wow. Kayla brought this place to life with a tour that combined deep knowledge of the boarding house and Thomas Wolfe personally with a clear passion for sharing the story of this amazing treasure. If you want to experience a taste of life in the ray 1900s... this is it.

It was very informative. Thomas Wolfe is ranked amongst Ernest Hemingway and F Scott Fitzgerald when it comes to American writers. They have a video you can watch before the tour, there is also an exhibit. For $5 a dossant takes you on the tour of his childhood home, which was a boarding house ran by his mother, and gives you all kinds of information about Thomas Wolfe.

Good price for a nice tour of where Thomas Wolfe grew up and the memories that inspired his literary masterpieces. The tour is about 45 minute long. A must visit historical site while in Asheville.
