"This sophisticated hotel surprises with its contrasts. It has a dynamic location, within the busy Quinta Avenida quarter. This is best observed from the rooftop oasis called CATCH at the adults-only Thompson Main House—splashing around in the swimming pool by day, then trading the designer bikini for dancing shoes in the evening, when enticing beats take over the sound system. The hotel manages to pull of a rare combination of lively nightlife, good cuisine, cool midcentury design (by Mexico City’s Niz +Chauvet), and enough space and silence to still escape. The Thompson Beach House is a short walk away, with its private cabanas and personalized service and attention. Both have guest rooms, but patrons are encouraged to spend their days moving between the two enclaves."

Our stay at Hyatt Centric Playa Del Carmen was nothing short of AMAZING! From the moment we arrived, the hospitality and attention to detail were world-class. The property is not only beautiful, but spotless—from the stylish Downtown location to the serene and relaxing Beach House.||||Every member of the staff went above and beyond, and we want to give special thanks to some incredible team members:||||Pablo the Doorman greeted us with genuine warmth every single day—he was a ray of sunshine and truly set the tone for our stay.||||The Front Desk team—Meyli, Alfie, Soraya, and Larissa—made us feel welcomed, cared for, and always taken care of.||||The Beach House, Abraham, Yoli, and Luis were absolutely phenomenal. Their service made every moment by the beach feel luxurious.||||The Rooftop Staff—Alex, JC, and Javi—made our time there unforgettable with their amazing energy, top-tier service, and attention to detail.||||But the real magic was how the hotel celebrated my wife Yolanda’s birthday. From surprise birthday cakes at both restaurants, to the confetti and cake waiting in our room, and thoughtful birthday acknowledgments from staff throughout the property—we felt truly celebrated and appreciated.||||Huge thanks to the entire management team for going above and beyond. You made this trip incredibly special, and we’re so grateful.||||This was more than a vacation—it was an experience we’ll never forget. We will definitely be back again soon!

We spent a lovely afternoon on the rooftop with day passes and it was absolutely perfect. The roof top was not crowded (it got busier later but didn’t feel “busy” because of plenty of space in between so each bed is kinda private). There was no roudy partiers (thank goodness); mostly friends, families, couples and pretty chill. There’s music playing - just enough energy so you wouldn’t fall asleep but also quiet enough to carry on conversations without having to shout. The view is beautiful to the right side, and the pool runs all the way around. The menu is really big with many options (finger foods to burgers to pasta or seafood), and taste was good (not the pizza - not worth it). Drinks are good too. Our server (Ravi) was very attentive and friendly (I feel like he so wanted to just hang out with us 🫣😅). When we were leaving to the elevators, he came to us to say goodbye again. 10 out of 10. One note for the day passes: I think it’s 500 pesos in week days but 850 on weekends. My friend negotiated down a bit for the weekend rate and all towards consumption. Well worth it. Usually I took nicer photos but I got too hungry so we ate most of the food before taking the photos (oops).

We were delighted with the location and the view of the rooftop. It would have been great if there was a jacuzzi. ||Our room was fine. One draw back was that there was only one chair in the room and when we were inside the room, my partner didn’t have a place to sit. ||The staff were pleasant and attentive.

When you arrive you feel like you are at home, everything feels warm and welcoming.|Francisco is the best barman you could ever ask! Don’t fear to forget about JC the captain and not even mention about Julieta the waiter! All of them are amazing just like they know.|I’m definitely coming back for some delicious mezcalitas:)

Summary: Would strongly avoid staying here unless you need place to crash next to the nightlife - otherwise, spend your vacation somewhere better. ||The Hyatt Centric used to be a Thompson, but was deflagged by Hyatt and it's clear why after staying there. ||There's parts that the hotel can't control (it's downtown, near nightlife, and so it's loud at night), but there's plenty the hotel can control and choses not to (rooms aren't maintained, service is rough, they try to make the Downtown House pool a dayclub). ||We were "upgraded" to a cheaper room upon check-in as Hyatt Globalists, with a balcony directly facing nightclubs. In these rooms, you'll hear the nightclubs and bars until 3am or so. We had also asked for a quieter room if possible when booking and called the day before to reaffirm the ask. ||Despite asking for a quiet room and flagging that the "upgraded" room was in fact a cheaper room, they refused to move us back to our original room category. Felt a little bit like a scam to be moving people to rooms others clearly did not want. ||After a lot of asking the front desk, they agreed to move us to a "quieter" room, assigning us a room that directly overlooked an active construction site. It was extremely noisy during the day, but quiet at night, so we figured it was a fine compromise. Unfortunately, he construction site seems to be emitting some type of fumes (a neighboring room reported the same issue) and the AC was completely broken, so we moved back to our original room - apparently those were the only two rooms in the whole (not very busy) hotel. ||I would stay away from front facing balcony rooms as they get both nightclub noise and dayclub music from the rooftop pool. Rooms all the way on the side are quiet, so long as you are not near the construction fumes. ||The Downtown House pool on the rooftop is very nice, with great views of PDC and the ocean. The hotel is attempting to turn it into a dayclub, and starts blasting music at around noon until 11pm. We don't mind a good atmosphere, but it was beyond excessive given we saw basically no dayclub guests our entire stay there. ||The Beach House pool is a nice lap pool, but the actual beach was unfortunately completely unusuable because of sargassum build up. You'll see sargassum everywhere in Playa Del Carmen, but this beach had literal mountains of it - I don't think I could reach the ocean if I tried. The Grand Hyatt Playa, by comparison, had sargassum built up, but it was barely noticeable. ||Front desk was frustrating service - refusing to really do anything - but the housekeeping and restaurant staff were lovely. ||We regret spending part of our vacation here, and unless the management decides to change path, I don't think that will be different for many others.

Everything about this hotel was amazing! Everyone we encountered was very sweet and accommodating they truly make you feel comfortable and welcomed. Javier is the best bartender/pool guy/helper ever. JC, Luis, Alex and Francisco treated us like family. Front desk people were very informative about things to do in or around the area. Both hotels are in a perfect location and only 2 blocks from each other.

This hotel used to be our favorite place, but sadly, it’s gone downhill since the rebranding. The restaurant that was once Catch is now just sitting vacant, which was a huge disappointment. Our room’s plunge pool didn’t work, and the shower only worked intermittently. The quality and attention to detail that once made this place special are gone. It just doesn’t compare to what it used to be — and unfortunately, we won’t be coming back.

The service at Hyatt Centric Playa Del carmen was amazing!!Soraya and Pablo went above and beyond to help my daughter and i with a safe check out. The staff treated us like family and helped us with a transport mix up. I was in distress because tranaport was unsure of when/ where to pick up. Soraya called the transport company and she made sure we made our ride in time. Pablo rode his bike to our pick up destination to tell us about a mix up. I stepped on a rock at the beach and the lady who brought our food service brought me an extra bucket of ice. They truly do care for customers and it shows. Thank you so much for everything. They made our stay great. We will go back soon.
