Thompson Playa del Carmen

"This sophisticated hotel surprises with its contrasts. It has a dynamic location, within the busy Quinta Avenida quarter. This is best observed from the rooftop oasis called CATCH at the adults-only Thompson Main House—splashing around in the swimming pool by day, then trading the designer bikini for dancing shoes in the evening, when enticing beats take over the sound system. The hotel manages to pull of a rare combination of lively nightlife, good cuisine, cool midcentury design (by Mexico City’s Niz +Chauvet), and enough space and silence to still escape. The Thompson Beach House is a short walk away, with its private cabanas and personalized service and attention. Both have guest rooms, but patrons are encouraged to spend their days moving between the two enclaves."

Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen (Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya) 17 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Hip new hotels open their doors in Playa del Carmen all the time. But rarely is the opening of a hotel met with such anticipation as that of Thompson Playa del Carmen, along the happening pedestrian promenade of Quinta Avenida. It’s the counterpart to the Thompson Beach House, a five-minute stroll away, and the feel, compared to its sister, is necessarily more urban — but hardly any less laid-back." - Tablet Hotels

We loved everything about our trip! The rooms were clean and well appointed. They had a cool tropical vibe. We used the amenities at both properties. The staff was amazing! Everyone we came in contact with was helpful and friendly. The front desk staff offered great suggestions for restaurants and entertainment. If we needed anything in our room, they took care of it all with a smile. The servers were very attentive and accommodating. There were definitely a few standouts. We would love to thank Ernesto, Eddie and Javi for their outstanding service. They kept things upbeat and fun! We would definitely recommend these properties 100%! Thanks so much for everything!!

The Hyatt Centric is excellently located; only steps away from the Quinta Avenida. Our room had a large balcony and was very quiet because it didn't overlook 5 Av. The staff was very friendly and took great care of the guests. There was a rooftop with a good restaurant, a pool, and a fantastic view of city and sea. It was a short walk to the Hyatt Centric Beach house; which (as the name says) is on the beach. Both hotels operate as a single unit; which means that we were able to use the facilities of the Beach House. We showered and used their towels after swimming in the sea. Also dined at the beachfront restaurant and charged it to our room at the Downtown House. The sandy beach is perfect for swimming.

My partner and I really enjoyed our stay here. We stayed at the Hyatt centric beach house because we preferred being next to the beach and it's a bit quieter than the downtown hotel. There was an issue with the hot water but the hotel offered options such as moving to the other downtown hotel and complimentary breakfast. The hotel is clean, rooms are huge and staff are lovely. Soraya was always super friendly and helpful. If you want a hotel centrally located in playa this is a great option.

Front desk team was super helpful and welcoming! Stayed in a balcony room at the downtown location. The hotel is literally right in the middle of the action, for those looking to go to Coco Bongo, could not be more convenient. Can see the water from the outside of the hotel. Room was modern, clean, super comfy bed. MUSIC from the rooftop and nearby clubs was loud - boom, boom, boom, until early morning hours. Ear plugs were provided by the hotel. |Stayed for one night as we were headed to another resort for a wedding. Did not use any of the hotel amenities outside of the room.

Staff is awesome, the hotel and rooms are very nice and very clean, but I cannot recommend that anyone stays here. We are here on a Friday night and the music is going so loud outside the window. it’s 1:30 AM and there is no sign of it stopping. You will not get any sleep if you stay at this hotel. It’s a shame because it’s a nice hotel but not if you want to sleep, which defeats the whole purpose of paying for a hotel room

My family has been been coming to Playa del carmen for about 7 years. The first 6 of those years were at the Grand Hyatt. This year, since the Grand Hyatt closed, we decided to try the Beach House. This is a true boutique hotel. There are 27 rooms. My wife and I have always booked a suite during our stays—kids and friends get their own rooms. The suite here was really nice. Large and we had a wrap around baclony with a hot tub—-really nice and as good as the Grand Hyatt. The staff is great and has been very accommodating. Soraya, Vince and Eddie all have been stand out staff. ||But if you are going to stay here there are some differences from the Grand Hyatt. This is a small hotel. It is also further south and in what I would call the more touristy part of Playa. It was a little more of an adjustment for my wife and i because the northern part of the city is a little more serene. There are no true beach options. While the hotel is on the beach there are no chairs, lounges or cabanas on the beach. There are those amenities by the pool over looking the beach which was fine with us.||There is also just one small restaurant. It does not have a ton of options, but the food is good and fresh. The bar is actually really solid but closes at sun down. There is no real concierge either. The bottom line is my family has chosen Playa as our destination of choice for the Xmas holiday. We really do love it here. It is far from a perfect location and the hotel is not the 4 Seasons or like other fine resorts (neither was the Grand Hyatt). But if you like the vibe of walking around a fun place—-eating different foods—-having a solid time with your kids—-Playa is a really solid choice and obviously has been our since our kids were in their teens. One last thing we had heard there is a lot of noise at this hotel from the bars around 5th Ave. We have not experienced loud noise other than breaking waves. It might be a function of our room or just that the beach house is far enough away from 5th Ave where you don’t get the noise.

Our experience at Hyatt Centric Beach House was excellent from start to finish. The property is well-maintained, comfortable, and perfectly located. Soraya provided exceptional service — she was warm, professional, and incredibly helpful. Her attention to detail and kindness made our stay even more enjoyable. The staff at the beach house were also phenomenal! Would definitely stay here again when in Playa del Carmen!

Staff were great. Food was great, although drinks a little expensive. We had a cabana and our waiter Ernesto was attentive and fantastic! Biggest distraction was that the place is now kid friendly. Lots of kids splashing and making more noise than we wanted getting away for us as a couple. They could benefit from having an adults only area.
