I must have been given the worst room in the hotel, with a window looking into an interior air shaft next to loud ventilation ducts. The room was comfortably furnished, but too warm; opening the window made it noisy from the ducts. The staff were professional, breakfast was full of choice and of very good quality. I did enjoy the young seagull who seems to live outside the window.

A decent city hotel with perfectly adequate, if slightly small, rooms. No views to speak of, sadly. Breakfast was fabulous! The hotel doesn't have a bar per se, although one can order a limited range of drinks at Reception. It is attached to a separate restaurant (Egon, Tromsø) where you can have an evening meal if you don't want to leave the area. The staff were lovely and helped escalate this hotel to a little gem.

Stayed here in December 2024 as a couple. About 15 minutes drive from Tromso Airport and right within the City Centre where you can walk around to various restaurants, malls, shopping centers, sightseeing pickups etc. We reached by flight towards late night and were able to easily take the Airport Bus which dropped us at a 2 min walk from the hotel with heavy bags in the snow. The bus stop was right near the Scandic hotel. Check-in was quick and we were then allotted a room. We had opted for a Standard Double Room which was allotted on the second floor.||A nice, clean, compact room with a very compact sized bathroom and toiletries (toilet paper, towels, napkins and shampoo, body wash, and other amenities). The shower area was extremely small. The daily housekeeping/replenishment was really lousy for the 3N we stayed and the rooms were never cleaned properly till late evening. Had to ask multiple times after which they only changed the towels and the person was also rude. We also complained at the reception for which they said they were short staffed or did not have new towels ready and were awaiting them from their sister concern Thon hotel from across the street late evening. Definitely do not expect this kind of service for the price we paid which was approx. EUR220 per night.||Since it was almost midst of winter in Norway, we did need the heater, but could also open the window at times and the room was just about comfortable. It was snowy and rainy in Tromso at that time. We could easily reach all the tour pickup points, grocery stores, shops at a few minutes walk. Buffet Breakfast was really amazing, with a good spread and great taste, did get crowded at times.||Overall, a decent stay and may recommend staying here as this hotel was just perfectly centrally located, decent rooms and bathrooms, nice breakfast but was extremely overpriced for the services provided and not value for money! Thank you Thon Hotel Polar for the stay and hope you can make these improvements mentioned on the service, housekeeping and may reconsider a stay here again!

We stayed at Thon Hotel Polar for one night at the beginning and then again at the end of our trip to Uloybukta, and overall, it was a convenient and comfortable place to land.||The location is ideal—right in the heart of Tromsø—making it easy to explore the city’s shops and restaurants, which we really enjoyed. That said, winter storms and heavy snow made walking around a bit challenging, especially with some sidewalks and streets not fully shoveled. Be sure to bring proper footwear and take your time navigating the icy conditions.||Inside, the hotel was warm and welcoming. The breakfast spread was terrific—a real standout with lots of variety and fresh, tasty options. We also appreciated the lovely views from the 6th floor, even though we didn’t catch the Northern Lights.||One area that could use improvement was the front desk staff, who weren’t as friendly or helpful as we expected. While our stays were short, first and last impressions matter, and a warmer welcome would have made a difference.||All in all, Thon Hotel Polar is a little pricey but a good choice for a short stay in Tromsø, especially if you’re heading to or from other Arctic adventures like Uloybukta.

This hotel should be a four star, not a three star, and if it isn’t the number one in Tromsø i would be surprised. Firdt, the staff: everything you would expect and more. Helpful, kind, polite, knowledgeable, and goes the extra mile for example, when i was leaving very early on my check out morning, and would miss the breakfast, the reception staff inquired if they could make up a breakfast box for me. Wow! I didnt have to ask, they just offered. And when my key failed to work, another was produced immediately, literally within seconds. The staff person even gave me his direct line, sothat if this happened agon, i could call him and he could come to me, rather than me having to come to reception to him. |Second, the rooms. I only had one room a superior double, but i did peek into a couple of oyhers as they were being cleaned and they appeared uniformly well appointed. Housekeeping was friendly and asked me if there were anything specific i needed, when i saw them in the hallway. Again, going out of their way to help. My room was large, even by US standards, when tend to find Europen hotel rooms pokey. I was on the ninth floor with views of downtown and the Dom Kirche, and the snow covered mountains beyond. Gorgeous at night! And the windows opened, hallelujah, so i could let in that beautiful, clean Arctic air! The bed was wonderful, the duvet just right, and the tv easy to figure out. Bathroom toiletries were luscious and nicely scented (very unisex) and the hot water was hot and abundant. The towels were good, and absorbent. They were not bath sheets, which i prefer, but i have not found bath sheets in any truly Europen lodgings. The bathrobe was roomy and comfy too!|Lighting in the room was what you would want, some near the bed head, one at the desk area, and overheads available in room and hallway. Ample closet space. Real hangers, and plenty of them. Places for luggage as well as the myriad of things people bring with them on holiday. |Third, the breakfast buffet, which is included in the room price. A nicely appointed dining roomwith free seating and a mouthwatering array of foods. Service was from 6-10 weekdays and. 8-11 on weekends, which makes a lot of sense. I dislike buffets which stop early so you have to get up and ready sooner than you might wish to. The food begins with a choice of cereals and yoghurts with dried fruit and nuts and again, they had plain yoghurt, not those sugary prepackaged things i have seen elsewhere. There was chia pudding as well, a selection of juices, and carafes of water. There was an entire section devoted to lactose free yoghurt and gluten free baked good with a dedicated gluten free toaster. I am not gluten free, but have friends who are, and this was remarkable attention to detail. On the cold buffet one had a choice of at least three different types of bread with various grains and seeds, and gorgeous real butter. Several types of jams were also on offer, as well as fresh fruit including apples, pears and grapes. Salad leaves, tomatoes, cucumbers and several sorts of spreads including taramosalata, chutneys, and pickled vegetables, were presented. Sliced ham, proscioutto, and lox (salmon) was next, along with a few different cheeses. If you still had room, the hot buffet offered sort of a Nordic take on a full English: baked beans in tomato sauce, grilled tomatoes, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, a kind of liver loaf that reminded me of scrapple, meatballs made with chicken but seasoned like sausage, sausages, sautéed mushrooms, broiled cauliflower florets, broccoli florets in sauce, pre made cheese omelette tray bake, and i think that was all. Oh yes, they had something resembling a cross between grits and hot oatmeal and i cant remember what it was called. Two trays of croissants and pastries rounded out the offerings.||I could not have moved if i ate everything, but i was there for five mornings, so was able to sample almost everything. A coffee and tea station was also presented, with teapots to make a good and proper brew. ||The staff here as everywhere else in this hotel was attentive and cheerful. ||I honestly cannot fault this hotel. It is excellent, and when i visit Tromsø again, which i intend to, I shall book in there for sure.

We were told (not asked) that we were moved from Thon Hotel Tromso and we didn't received the same amenities that we were promised at the other hotel (slippers, speaker, iron and ironing board, they took the bathrobes the second day and didn't bring others). We asked for slippers and they said that they don't have any. I think that when you promise something you need to provide it or at least let the person know and apologise for the inconvenience.

Yelp
I had high hopes for my stay at Hotel Thon, but from the moment I stepped into the lobby, it became clear this was going to be a frustrating experience. My interaction with the front desk immediately set the tone for a less-than-welcoming stay. The woman at the front desk was shockingly snobby and dismissive when I requested a room on a higher floor. I understand that availability can sometimes be limited, but her attitude made it seem like I was asking for the moon. Instead of politely explaining the situation or offering alternatives, she brushed me off with a condescending smirk and curt responses. Her demeanor gave me the distinct impression that my presence was an inconvenience rather than a paying guest seeking reasonable accommodation. A little professionalism and hospitality would have gone a long way here, but apparently, that's too much to expect. Unfortunately, things did not improve once I entered my room. I've stayed in plenty of small hotel rooms before, but this was on a whole different level--claustrophobic and cramped to the point of absurdity. If I stood in the center and stretched out my arms, I could practically touch both walls. There was hardly any space to place my luggage without tripping over it every time I moved. To make matters worse, the room was far from clean. Dust clung to the corners of the room and the surfaces looked like they hadn't been wiped down in weeks. The bathroom was particularly unpleasant--grime around the sink, mold in the shower corners, and a lingering smell of mildew that no amount of ventilation could clear. It's astonishing that a hotel of this supposed caliber doesn't take the most basic steps to maintain cleanliness. The linens on the bed didn't inspire much confidence either. Though they looked somewhat clean at first glance, closer inspection revealed faint stains that left me questioning when they were last laundered. The mattress was thin and uncomfortable, and I woke up feeling like I'd slept on a wooden bench. This entire experience was disappointing and frustrating, especially considering the price point. The combination of rude staff, dirty rooms, and absurdly small accommodations makes Hotel Thon one of the worst hotel stays I've had in recent memory. It's clear that guest comfort and satisfaction are not priorities here. If you're looking for a pleasant and hassle-free experience, I would strongly advise you to look elsewhere. You can certainly find much better options at this price range where you'll be treated with respect and provided with clean, functional rooms. Avoid this place if you value your time, money, and peace of mind.

Yelp
The hotel is centrally located near many restaurants and shopping. During my recent 10 night stay in Norway, these rooms are the largest by far. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. A grand breakfast buffet each morning and being attached to a great restaurant tops it all off. I recommend the Thon Polar.

Yelp
Great location, on the main drag next to cool bars, food, shops, and harbor. Cozy and clean, looks like a little ikea dorm room. Free breakfast is a great value here I am discovering. If you have extravagant tastes and want the lap of luxury you might be a bit dissapointed, but more than okay for the budget traveler.update: just went to the breakfast buffet. That alone made my stay here worth it. It's awesome.
