Thon Hotel Spectrum (Oslo, Norway) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"This unassuming looking hotel sits on a pedestrianised shopping street, not far from the station. Bright, bold colours feature in a funky interior with all the facilities a modern traveller needs; go for a larger Business Room." - Tablet Hotels

This is my first time to Norway. I am not sure what a normal size room should be. Our room was very small. The bed is smaller than a queen size bed too. The check-in and checkout were fast. The receptionist spoke good English. This hotel provides an excellent breakfast. There are a lot of choices of bread, smoked fish. They even have green salad and fresh fruit. Those are expensive in Norway. However the breakfast room does not open until 7 AM on weekdays and 7:30 AM on weekends. I think it’s a little late. The location is about 5 minutes from the train and bus stations.

Great hotel. The rooms were comfortable and affordable, but what makes this hotel really stand out is the breakfast. The food was delicious - it was the best hotel breakfast I've ever had. Good coffee, good fruit, a wide selections of meats, cheese, a few egg dishes, breads and pastries, and plenty of Norwegian specialties, as well. And, they offer takeaway boxes for a very reasonable price were you to want to make a lunch from the buffet and save money you would spend on a likely more expensive lunch out. I'd highly recommend this hotel, which is located conveniently between the Oslo central train station and the center city.

We stayed in one of the larger rooms with an extra bed. The room was large and nice and clean. Breakfast was amazing as always. Staff helpful. ||||But be warned that the street below is very busy during the night, including the afterparty kebab shop activity, so don't expect to have a good night's sleep. When it finally settles down, construction starts at 7 am, but this should be over soon. Generally the location is not great. It is close to the central station and shopping areas, but the immediate neighborhood is not very nice.||||We love staying in Thon hotels, and there is really nothing much the staff can do about the location and noise. So we'll happily stay at a Thon again, just not this one.

The surrounding area is a bit ‘so-so,’ and I could imagine feeling slightly uncomfortable late at night. However, the hotel is very close to the train station, which explains the neighborhood and makes it a perfect starting point for exploring Oslo. The Opera House is just a 10–15-minute walk away. Our room was beautiful and included a bathtub. Despite prior warnings, we didn’t hear any of the construction noise (we stayed one night from Saturday to Sunday). The breakfast was excellent, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Perfect for a city trip, central location ten minutes from the main train station. The room was comfortable and the breakfast super generous, with a hot drink takeaway bar all day round.

Very bad experience, the room is very small, there was a construction all the period of my stay and workers right in front of the window all the time, which made me close the window that was looking at the reconstruction inside the hotel. There was no notification this will be the situation. The only positive aspect was the breakfast. When I asked to post my review, booking.com did not allow it.

Our second stay at the hotel. On this occasion we did not pay for the upgraded business room but wish we had. The room we had this time was facing the main street and was noisy due to the loud music from the bar next door (which closes at 3.30 am). We had to have the windows open as the room did not have air conditioning. The staff are super friendly, especially those working in the sumptuous buffet breakfast that is included in the price. We’ll return again next year, but will choose our room wisely 😉

PRO: central location, easy access to trams, trains and bus; great breakfast; attentive personnel; iron and refrigerator in room CONS: Very noisy at night until 2am because of the bars on the street and drunk people walking by. No wonder they had packs of free earplugs in the bathroom. The hotel should consider using noise-proof windows for the rooms facing the street/bars. Bathrooms were tiny even by Norwegian hotel standards.

Yelp
Rooms are comfortable, but the AC is broken and it's warm. The breakfast is really quite nice. Best part of the hotel. The public spaces are dirty, and the desk staff is pure Motel 6. The neighborhood is conveniently near OSLO-S and the T, but it's a bit tougher neighborhood, with the 7-11 across from it, than other Thon hotels in the area. I'd try the Opera rather than this next time.

Yelp
The hotel might be on one of the sketchiest streets, but the location is close to the central station and Oslo Specktum. The layout is akin to a university dormitory with long corridors and plain hotel doors lining either side. However the rooms are clean and the bathroom floor heated, a godsend when you need to get up in the middle of the night to empty your bladder. The buffet breakfast spread was generous and perfect for loading up before spending the rest of the day exploring the city.
