This was definitely an experience.||The receptionist on Monday night delivered what must be my worst hotel experience at Thon. While we were sitting in the lobby five meters away and trying to have a conversation before saying our final goodbyes, he stood and whistled loudly, entirely off-key and for a long time, before he turned on loud rap music from his mobile and tried to rap to it, switching back and forth every now and then.||My partner and I were at the Thon hotel Spectrum Sunday late evening/early Monday after we realized too late that the last train back to our respective municipalities had left. We had therefore had to arrange accommodation quite suddenly, and booked a single room for the night.||After pre-paying and getting to the hotel, we were told that a single room was exclusively for one person. Slightly surprised by the outright refusal and completely absent empathy and customer service, I then asked to register and pay for an extra guest in the single room. The receptionist flatly rejected this.||No argument about being fully booked or anything like that. He justified the refusal solely on the basis of "fire procedures," an argument that seemed inappropriate since it was essentially about registering a person on a guest list. Supposedly, anything else he would "get reprimanded" by his boss for.||No conditions stated that this would not be possible and I have never encountered that before anywhere.||The receptionist insisted that the only solution was to buy an extra room at full price, and dismissed the request in a very unserious manner. No room for anything else.||The result was that only one of us could stay, and it was decided that she would check in, while I went to stay at Oslo Central Station until the trains started again in the morning. However, we were "allowed" to sit and talk before saying goodbye. Yes, that was the wording.||While we sat in the lobby five meters away and tried to have a quiet conversation before the last goodbye, stood around and whistled loudly, entirely off-key and for a long time. He then decided to put on loud rap music from his mobile and tried to rap to it. Loudly. For a long time. Standing completely alone by himself. Completely. Absurd. The noise was headache-inducing, and the behavior was intolerable. Listening back to the audio recording afterward is painful.||The hotel already has challenges with long-term construction site noise; one would think that basic customer service and customer care became more important for those who actually choose the hotel despite this.||I have previously been a satisfied Thon customer who has stayed at hotels from Harstad to Ålesund to Oslo in the context of both study, work, volunteering and leisure.||I’ve recommended several of their hotels, including this one. After this, it will take a lot for me to consider Thon again, and rather than recommending them, I will actively warn friends and colleagues about using Thon Hotels - especially this location.||--- To summarize:|• Total lack of empathy, judgment and basic understanding of customer service at the reception.|• Absurd and intolerable behavior from the receptionist, completely incompatible with professional operation.|• An experience that comes across as a direct parody of the service profession and a shockingly poor reflection of the hotel's work culture.||Congratulations, Spectrum. You've really done a great job here.
