Thongbay Guesthouse Luang Prabang

Nice place on the Nam Khan river. Rooms are dated but the atmosphere along the river is peaceful and serene. The main downside is that the rooms have no seal - you can hear conversations and sounds from far away. This was the only time we needed to use ear plugs during our 40-day vacation, with music playing past 2am and construction starting at 6am. Other guests were having problems sleeping. The price seems high for these kind of issues. Other than that, great service all around with free shuttles to the city center. I would just ask that the cleaning staff please don’t look in the room windows to check if we are there, but knock instead. They were peeking in at my wife and I while we were in bed without clothes on.

Booked a bungalow set in a beautiful tropical garden overlooking the river. On arrival Mr Ty explained everything clearly and was always ready to help and offer advice. In fact all of the staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The room was large and had everything we needed for our 5 nights. We also made use of the laundry service which was very good. ||||Breakfast was selected the evening before and served to your room at a time of your choosing. There is no better start to the day than sat on your balcony enjoying the views and breakfast! ||||The pool area is great for a nice cool down after a days sightseeing. You can walk to or from town in about 30mins; we did twice or catch the complimentary shuttle bus which operates a few times a day. ||||Loved our stay and thank you to everyone who made it so enjoyable.

I had an absolutely amazing stay at Thong Bay Guesthouse. Tucked away just outside the centre of Luang Prabang, it’s the perfect retreat for anyone seeking peace and quiet. The lush, tranquil gardens are full of butterflies, birds, and the gentle rustle of palm trees — it feels like stepping into a little Eden.||Each morning, I enjoyed a delicious breakfast served on my private balcony with breathtaking views of the Nam Khan River — such a peaceful way to start the day. The swimming pool is another lovely touch, perfect for a dip after exploring, and always surrounded by the sounds of nature.||The staff couldn’t have been more helpful or kind, always greeting me with a smile and going out of their way to make my stay special. It really was the perfect combination of comfort, nature, and warm hospitality. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Luang Prabang and want somewhere beautiful, peaceful, and full of heart.

Thongbay was amazing! Staff were wonderfully attentive and I felt like a very valued guest. Rooms were simply furnished but everything you needed was there from mosquito nets to fridge.I loved the view, and the breakfast, served on my balcony, was delicious. The shower was powerful, the pool divine and the gardens simply beautiful.I had been a little worried about the location as it’s outside the town but need not have been - there’s a free mini van each way multiple times a day but I did walk once and it only took 20 minutes. Plus I was grateful to be outside the noisy town.If you’re not a fan of nature this might not be the place for you, but I felt it was exactly what I needed - falling asleep to the sound of frogs and cicada, and waking to birdsong.My only regret is that I couldn’t stay longer!

Thong Bay was such an amazing place to stay. Stayed here for 5 days. Clean rooms, nice pool. Amazing staff, so personable and they genuinely care. They will sort out motorbike rentals for you, and check in with you each time you come back to the resort area. Will totally stay here again.

I would highly reccommend everyone come here. The staff is so incredibly helpful, and the place is gorgeous right on the river. We appreciate everything they did for us by upgrading our room and allowing us to stay a extra night with a discount. The place is beautiful, the breakfast was very yummy and the pool is suberb.

Lovely time away, we stayed 5 nights at Riverside bungalow which was relaxing and away from the hustle and bustle of town. We walked in to town in 20 mins, used free bikes and there is also a free shuttle bus. Nothing was too much trouble manager and staff were excellent and arranged trips and advised us. Breakfast overlooking the river was lovely. A wonderful place and we wished we stayed longer. Stuart

We had an incredible stay at Thongbay! The whole team is very attentive and friendly, always there to help and make sure everything is going well ! The breakfast is very high quality and complete, brought to the room or the terrace by a lovely team. The manager was very nice, he hired scooters for us and bought bus tickets for our next destination. It's a real haven of peace and tranquillity, surrounded by vegetation. The room was very clean and well equipped. The location of the hotel is not a problem at all ! Bicycles and shuttles are available free of charge. In less than ten minutes you're in the centre! And you can even get there on foot, it doesn't take very long. It's worth being a little further away for the peace and quiet and the quality of service.
