Thornbank House

The pillows were perfect, the room spacious, and the bathroom luxurious—everything you could want for a comfortable stay. The fridge came stocked with water and milk, adding a thoughtful touch. Fiona and Jim are exceptional hosts who have created a stunning small hotel. We love the peaceful, tranquil atmosphere of the house and can’t wait to return soon.

Thornbank house…all I can say is it’s absolutely beautiful. Fiona welcomed us and gave a lovely tour. She was so welcoming and felt like nothing would be a bother to ask. The facilities are amazing. The pool and hot tub were spotless and a great feature when staying here. We stayed in room 1 and it was huge with beautiful views of the sea. We had initially booked as 3 adults but only 2 of us stayed but there was plenty of space for 3 adults in room 1. The room was immaculate and came with fresh milk in the fridge, water, tea and coffee. And of course biscuits! Myself and my husband slept soundly. We agreed a time right for us for breakfast and it was lovely. We went for full Scottish and there was continental on the side table too which can help yourself to. ||I have very fond memories of Stranraer from when I spent every summer holiday there as a child and I am so grateful to Fiona for making those memories last into adulthood. I will most certainly be back and have already recommended Thornbank House to all of my friends and family.

Our stay at Thornbank House was excellent. The hotel was warm and welcoming. Our room was excellent. We particularly loved the balcony and the view of the sea. The hotel pool and hot tub were perfect. Just what we needed after a long drive. The breakfast was excellent. Our stay at Thornbank House was fantastic and we can’t recommend it highly enough.

Great place to stay, Fiona was extremely helpful. The rooms are lovely, the pool and hot tub were great facilities will definitely be back.

It's not easy to write something about Thornbank House that hasn't already been posted previously. It's arguably the best value for money B&B in the west of Scotland, let alone Stranraer. It's 10s all round for everything and when you leave, you know that if you ever return to Stranraer, you wouldn't even consider looking at any other options. A real find!

We cannot rate this Bed and breakfast property high enough. We came for 2 overnights and it has been amazing! This is our 2nd visit and both times we cannot fault. The rooms are spotless clean with plenty storage for clothes etc. The indoor pool is fantastic and a great place to either have fun or relax with the rattan furniture all around. The hot tub is beautiful and warm and not to mention the garden, it’s stunning!! Thornbank is definitely our place to stay when visiting friends who stay in Stranraer. Highly recommend. Thank you to Fiona and John for making us so welcome.

We booked a trip from Thursday to Tuesday morning for a birthday treat. My husband Paul. Had worked in Stranraer for a number of years when he was younger and hadn't been back for at least 35 years!|Thornbank House was a fantastic find, reasonably priced fantastic facilities and great location.|When we booked there was only one bedroom that was still available and I'm not surprised that they are always booked up!|Fiona and Jim are fantastic hosts, and made us feel as if we were visiting friends rather than a bed and breakfast.|Our room was so comfortable with a Loch view, powerful shower and such a comfortable bed. Everything had been thought of including seperate towels for the pool and jacuzzi.|Nothing was too much trouble for Fiona and Jim and they gave us do many good recommendations for dinner and places to go.|I have to mention the spotless and gorgeous smelling property, the beautiful garden and their two gorgeous dogs.|Breakfast was plentiful, cooked to order and there was plenty of different choices. We didn't need lunch after the big breakfast which was lovely.|The pool and hot tub was lovely to have and we actually never made it in the evening there but actually used it after breakfast some of the days before we went out for the day. It was great to have it to ourselves although after some of the days walking it definitely would, have eased the muscles!|We will definitely be visiting and staying here next year and on a regular basis but be warned this gem of a place with perfect hosts books up extremely quickly!||Already looking forward to the next visit!

Third visit to Thornbank, this time with friends for a 70th Birthday. With the additional facilities of a swimming pool and hot tub, it’s ideal for a girlie weekend away. Fiona is an amazing hostess who will do anything for you to make your stay a pleasant one. Rooms are well appointed and have very comfy beds with quality bedding. Robes and pool towels are also provided in the rooms. My friends loved their stay too and would like to return in the future.
